PGA Tour icon Rory McIlroy has been listed to speak at this week’s Travelers Championship in Connecticut.

That’s despite the Northern Irishman’s recent revelation of ongoing frustration with the media following the 2025 US Open.

Rory McIlroy has been announced on the interview schedule for this week’s Travelers Championship in Cromwell, CT

The 35-year-old, who endured a disappointing final round at Oakmont after barely making the cut had declined to give interviews earlier in the major week.

Down native McIlroy tried to justify the decision as he insisted that he had “earned the right” to speak on his own terms.

He said of his brief blackout: “It’s just frustration with you guys [some sections of the media].

“I have been totally available for the past number of years.

“That [driver issue] was a part of it, but at Augusta, I skipped you guys on Thursday.

“It’s not out of the ordinary as I’ve done it before, but I am doing it a little more often.

“I feel like I’ve earned the right to do whatever I want to do.”

The world number two is scheduled to speak with the media after 2:15pm IST on Wednesday – on conclusion on the PRO-AM event prior to Thursday’s opening round at the elevated tournament.

His silence drew criticism from former Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley, who said the Northern Irishman “looked fed up” both on the course.

The Travelers Championship will be held at TPC River Highlands on Thursday with a whopping $20m purse up for grabs.
