so good man welcome back to the five under challenge come on Tommy tommy that’s crazy the question today is can I beat Tommy Fleetwood if I start five under P on cruise control at the moment that was I I need some I need something good today i don’t Yeah see now like I always think of streaks as they’ve got to come to an end at some point right right you’re on a tough run of players to be fair yeah they’re pretty good you’ve given yourself like an easy match today just to get out of the slump is that what you’ve done that’s why I brought you in i just wanted to make sure I could guarantee a winner i see those tactics first hole here we let our guest go first is that right okay all right we let our guest go first heard a lot a lot of great things about you well we’ll put that right today jeez man that’s good Tommy good sway on the fairway it is on the fairway i’m like look this is going to be where like like a major major grand stand right or hospitality yeah right there that’s why didn’t realize that so this is the second time we filmed together first time it was only like a couple holes taylor made shoot like a sixhole match you were beating me i was and I think I I think you let me win probably yeah I did it It was I It was harsh i mean it was It was a tough finish for me i always get the color we’re on the red course yep that’s the black course black yeah so that’s where the Ryder Cup The Rider Cup is going to be happening right to our right here we’re playing Beth Paige Red Course today so guys we got Caddy Mike on the bag today he’s going to be helping us out with all the reads appreciate you doing this man come on Mike whoever fs Mike the most gets the best in Yeah so you’re not actually allowed to help Tommy 150 shot mike I got you i don’t think you need any should be a downwind i know i feel like yours maybe got knocked down ah push nice shot bit of a push nice one got to get a divot is such a I mean this guy right he’s going to get his own divot look at this guy took a beaver see where it finished up i mean yours like definitely watching yours in the air i couldn’t I couldn’t really tell where mine was going either yeah well it’s such I mean the the green is so elevated i thought I hit a great shot i thought that was my 150 number you did hit a nice shot oh okay we’re going to be fine i mean it’s it’s actually a good leave like I was thinking is that bank really out of pin I Oh you’re perfect but I was thinking yours is going to come all the way down yeah you were hoping for that i could feel it maybe a little bit yeah i don’t know if you guys saw the video of Tommy’s son Frankie roll that clip quick guy doing my hardest to get it over the green i’ve been practicing as hard as I can just not reaching it this year but I just said I’d never realized how strong his accent was greens aren’t as fast as the black okay these are slower yeah definitely slower no breakage greens don’t do too much come on oh nice thank you we got to putt it all out today Tommy we’re putting it all out yep that’s the beauty of this challenge nice four thank you nice four don’t know where the mic’s got it a little bit outside the hole like the whole layer of the land might make it look like it breaks more yeah there’s no break bed fish so just trust it i started it high started it high really good roll caddy literally said “Trust it still couldn’t do it useless.” There you go good read there Mike we got a five shot lead after the first hole we maintain it so Tommy and I just got done we just played a couple holes on the black those greens are definitely faster than those i just you know I forget like how difficult that course is yeah like even on a diet I I only played it in the 2019 PGA it’s incredible the rough for you guys they grow it out most people that have been playing this game for a while know the course Beth Page Black if you’ve not heard of it it’s a public course here in New York i mean I think anybody can come play Beth Page Black how much is it do you know i don’t know how much it is but I know you can wait it like in the parking lot and be like one of the first tea times it’s a really cool little place like just it is amazing like just seeing the people that are here and just coming to play and just like really good energy with everyone here i want to make this very clear you guys are probably like “Wo he has a short putter in his hands.” This could be the first video where I went back to the short putter i think I’ve officially taken the title for the guy that changes putters more than anyone yeah it’s a dark place we’re in a very dark place guys with our putting we’re going to make it through but if you see a video out in the future you might see a video coming up where I go back to the long putter that’s just probably because it was shot before this mini driver the mini’s out took me one hole to get the mini out yeah this is when things are serious the mini comes out that’s perfect dude is that good should be all right nice shot i just didn’t want to hit the 250 cuz if we’re short of a certain line we’re blocked out yeah so we’re should be all right over there okay good call yeah so this is Tommy and I’s first time playing this course we have no idea what we’re doing if we didn’t have Mike today it would be the blind leading the blind yeah it’s a lot of dog left a lot of dog rights just coming at the tree favorite left side here cuz anything right the edge of the tree line yeah yeah okay on that left side okay par four here yep dog left second hole here par four wow oh it’s beauty thank you should be fine there that was a great shot there was even like you know it’s good when there’s a recoil and like a step with the left foot to pick the tea up what did you call it the one time we played together you said the floppy right arm oh the floppy right arm is another one like when you hit and there’s like a floppy right arm or there’s like the there’s like the recoil and you step into picking the tea up like Yeah the twinkle toes actually I used to be called twinkle toes in college cuz I get so excited I would like jump around so how did you get that like cuz obviously you choke down on the club too yeah if anyone’s ever watched you play golf they all know that you kind of saw up your finish so you don’t like fully unless you’re hitting like a driver mostly all your irons are knockdowns uhhuh like around 2015 2016 I really lost my game like I went through a phase where I was really struggling i actually had the yips off the tea for a little while ended up going back to my coach from when I was uh was a kid on England Scots and everything Alan Thompson and anyway I go to the range with him and and we start working but basically for like 6 months all he made me do was stand super wide like super super wide so I completely took my legs out of it and like he would call them windmill swings so I’d just be like straight arms so wide very wide really wide no wrists no like you know it was literally turning my body to hit the shot and eventually I was like I hit it better doing this yeah so why would you so then I just ended up having a sore follow through so like it was just always it was like a practice drill that became I was like wow but when you were younger did you always follow through all the way oh so you turn they turned into that yeah yeah 124 you got 125 grant into the wind 124 and 125 so we have like three different Tommy swings tommy we’ve got three yeah we have the Tommy Floatwood what’s that like a It’s like when it’s a higher softer like sixiron we have the Tommy Flightwood i need the Tommy Flowwood yes floatwood yes the Floatwood’s like the high spinny one that’s what you call i need I need that yeah and then we have the Tommy Flightwood which I’m going to hit here okay you’re hitting the flight i’m hitting the Flightwood yeah what’s the third one floatwood flewood and just the Fleetwood okay yeah back up and downs come on it’s the making of a great round like save save shots on the first two yeah that that usually settles you in quite Yeah get hot at some point it’s got a tiny bit of right to left a tiny bit coming up the hill once it dies it’ll break a little bit okay started it right again right okay feel like I’m playing better but I’m not making any ground he’s killing me in the first two holes look at him look how happy he is i’m really happy right now no I told you i’m like way too happy i don’t know if it’s the same for you but if I start out with a birdie on the round sometimes they’re just not my best round but if I start out with like a bogey bogeies are the start of some of the best rounds they really are i would rather start with a birdie but I I really but they definitely like And I I I try and tell myself that as well if you start with a bogey like well some of my best rounds have started with a bogey it’s like a little positive spin or a bad start are you Are you looking at going over the trees Grant or are you going to hit like a little like Yeah I want to I want to take it over shape it with the hole no we’re going over really yeah what are you doing a little fade here i’m going to go like tee down just moving it with the hole just cuz oh yeah you do you have that teed really well it just like feels so exciting to do that okay mike’s gone quiet and he doesn’t like that no no i like the play i like that play that’s the play that’s a bad sign when you’re when your Caddy goes yeah caddy’s like turned away he’s like good oh my god that was disgusting sick yep good shot that was cool now now I have to try and do that are you gonna go for that yeah I gotta go for that that just felt like that was right let’s try and copy that so it’s just to do it so far I love this place like I think it’s very fair i I I get you know we have our major cut series me and the Brian Bros where we travel all around to the major courses and after I play about like three of those my confidence cuz I’m playing we’re tipping out Oakmont and we’re tipping out you know Quail Hollow it’s like it’s nice to just Yeah 106 106 a little helping right yeah yeah tournaments and maybe people to get their personality out or or like really communicate with like the audience because they you know we’re trying to like compete i didn’t realize how funny you were even though it was six holes something happened i was like really swinging well in the beginning and making putts and then I kind of threw it away but if you take out the throwing away part Tommy brings out the best in me so funny story i walked into a PJ tour supertore and I think it’s becoming a thing people know how crazy I am now with putters uh how much I change i love I love putters you change a lot well I I try a lot but I don’t change very much you try but you like that but I I love putters yeah and I walked into PJ Tour Supertore with that putter and it had the original grip on it i was just like you know what in college I used a tiny little blade putter and I almost used it surprisingly this is not a lie i almost used it my entire four years at college it was a detour old titleless detour putter and it had the little pencil grip on it and I puted really good so I was like I put Scotty’s grip on the Scotty’s grip and I was like “Scotty uses that let’s try it it’s a pencil grip.” And the guy looked at me at PJ Tour Supertore he’s like “Dude I thought you were using a broomstick.” Do you get it do you get it regto is that I did yeah i just walked in there and uh Yeah the guy was like “Dude I thought you were using a broomstick.” And I’m like “No we’re done not anymore man not anymore not after today.” All right you got a dog right par five here guys pretty sure par five definitely get a bull too okay you know Tommy whoever comes out on top what I want more than that what matters more than that is that we both play good golf today i want to both play well that means more to me than whoever wins this i just want to both play in the game says that while he’s 234 yeah as long as we both play well got a six shot lead i’m 234 yeah yeah if I was down sixth hole of the day six shot lead i’m yet to gain a stroke back no I’m just I’m just trying to hold your standard of one putting i got to keep that going Tommy so what’s the equivalent of like a floppy arm when you’re putting good silent treatment um are you just like holding your stick it will probably be walking after it now like a little step yeah kind of that walk like a little just step like maybe the ball hasn’t reached the hole yet but you step right cuz you just know like it feels like Yeah like you just you just know so 250 over to the left yeah at that tree 250 you should be fine into the wind probably play a hair more 260 but you should be nothing more than that it’ll go through the fairway is there anything down there uh nothing really just exactly what you see straight ever met somebody that lives in Dubai full-time you might be the first i’m glad that I’m a first uh yeah I mean we love it i travel so much so like I always consider home wherever my family are then that just made things a lot more interesting a lot more interesting so Tommy now goes to three under i drop back to seven i felt like first stroke committed to my line i just it started right and went right the whole way and gave myself a 4-footer coming back 154 just playing close to tenner breeze good strike right a little bit nice swing what club was that that was a uh hands to shoulders eight iron and what was the yardage it was 54 154 i hit like a 64 shot you want to see a real flight one i really do oh yeah all arms wide or all core just arms stay straight god you should definitely do that really nice really nice get up there thank you classy i felt it very classy i felt it Tommy i’ll tell you I felt very wide there and a little punch shot there we go Mikey crazy to think about right now you had that eagle putt and a couple of those first ones like you can always go back and pick apart around you can always do it but Could be five you know yeah we play nice yeah play nice we’re playing We both got some good mojo going on right now it’s got some subtle breaks today very subtle sneaky break yeah exactly what are you seeing there Mike i’m coming in on the left side here right mhm see that old hole yeah I do i like that like right in the middle of it favorite like the outside half of it the outer half of it started it right again couldn’t trust hitting it far enough left come on Tommy always say it though that’s why I love this series because normally scrape up some of the the shorter ones it embarrasses you i like it little right to left it’s got to go that way yeah 100% but I don’t see too much not too much no I just outside like right edge mhm don’t even give it up Grant grant okay i like that you know it Mikey let’s do it come on Grant get back to work come on really really good putt that was a putt with intent yeah I thought that was Take our time here yeah take your time okay yeah serious yeah I know i was I was going to say I thought you were being very confident there just finishing that off back of the cup and none to it thought Tommy thanks so you don’t use the line on your ball either no line on the ball no see I’m gonna be honest with you right now i’m not using the line it’s new for me never done it but like do you pick out a a spot in front of you when you’re over a putt yeah i kind I try and get like a really good picture of the putt before I sort of walk to the side and then like have my practice stroke and always looking down the line but that this putter has really helped me line up so then I feel like once I put the putter down and I’m lined up I can just hit it then right um so like I don’t feel like I need the line on the ball to line up gotcha nice work thank you nice work i was using the TP5 the stripe ball the lines you know the one yeah yeah I was using that did you like that i loved it but I think I got there became a point in which I got too focused on the line yeah you have to be like really perfect with the line right and so now I’ve gone to just my old This is a TP5X yeah and it’s just set it down and this is the first time I’ve ever done it so and I watch you doing that it’s interesting you don’t use the line i feel like it makes my routine a little bit more stress free not trying to be perfect with the line and And I actually I’m not great at lining the ball up and if I think if you’re not great at it Yeah it’s not That’s not ideal you can’t line your ball up exactly what you’re looking straight out here you got to bunker to your right what’s left of that bunker straight out okay just hit driver and just keep driver yep off the left just off the left yep right at the flag did you see that butterfly i did i did i did that was beautiful i thought you were going to kill the butterfly dude great swing great swing down the middle oh I don’t know how you maintain focus I was watching it i was like “Oh he’s going to smoke it.” I was worried about that same here all right good swing Tommy i mean this guy Tommy is the closest thing I’ve seen to a robot on a on the golf course it’s like everything he does it’s just like one motion yep beautiful flight thank you that looked hot that was really good yeah that one’s going to have some steam yeah look it’s rolling it’s going uh-oh there’s just something about this tiebreaker right now five and five in this series feels a little different it just feels different yeah so who’s like a guy on tour do you have like one guy that you’re the closest with like that you chum with talk with the most on tour um I wouldn’t say I have like one guy that I’m the closest with i think um I’d say naturally when you have played in Rider Cups you become you definitely get closer to the guys that you played with you got to depend on them for a lot so like so there’s there’s there’s that like there’s a there’s a nice group of us in that sense um but yeah I’m lucky i’ve got some guys that um like European guys that I’ve known for a long time that have been great with me um and and like a lot of us you know we’re we’re kind of you know we’re doing well as well at the moment so it’s nice that we feed off each other and courses if I designed a course it would kind of look like this because if you do bail out or you do hit a bad shot you’re not reinact yeah like from a playing golf standpoint like I don’t want to stand on a tea and think I can lose my ball in one shot and everything enjoyable standpoint 100% because you get more tense when there’s OB right and left you just do good boy dude you got that thing my yardages down in my yardage book just to go through it in my head like mathematically and stuff so I always like writing like when I’m writing something down I feel like it centers me a little bit describe and then you know describe the shot and just have some sort of swing thought to fall back go through that process and I feel like if I can do that then you know we just go from there really bias aside of our scores I think the layout’s very fair and I think there’s a lot of well-designed holes and it makes you turn it left to right left right to left you’re right yeah you’re absolutely right you got to kind of do everything i think you’d be like if you played this course every day you’d be great at shaping the ball you’d be a really good wedge player right teaches you how to score or do you love uh TPC sawrass i do love TPC sass because that that’s one that universally I think a lot of the pros like an amazing championship golf course because you have to work it both ways and yeah always you’ve got like three different options off the tea like you know you can hit driver but you can hit less if you want you can shape it like there’s you know everybody can do something that they want to do like choose and a good shot will get rewarded exactly and a bad shot will be punished exactly i love TPC let’s just set the scene just because it it’s going to happen yeah you think
