Finally wrapped up my golf simulator build in our three-car tandem garage. Took over the third bay (the two-cars-deep side) and turned it into a full-on sim setup. Here’s how it came together:

  • Space conversion: Cleared out old storage, insulated the exterior wall, finished the drywall, skim coated, textured, and painted it Rock Bottom by Sherwin Williams (dark gray-green).
  • Flooring: Rolled out some pro putting turf I bought from Amazon.
  • Enclosure: Used Carl’s Place custom builder for a full enclosure: 108” tall × 140” wide x 48” deep (4:3 aspect ratio). Went with the premium impact screen.
  • Launch monitor: Foresight GC3.
  • Hitting mat: Carl’s Hot Shot mat with a replaceable divot strip.
  • Projector: BenQ 4K ceiling-mounted.
  • PC: CyberPower with a 5070 Ti GPU—runs FSX Play and GSPro in 4K Ultra smoothly.
  • Lighting: Ended up swapping in track lighting + narrow beam spotlight to avoid screen washout.
  • Ambience: Threw some LED strips behind the enclosure for a clean, modern vibe.

Pretty pumped with how it all turned out. Happy to answer any questions if you’re planning something similar.

No no thought of using the SIM for putting? It’s messy visually to to, but can still complete the game playing experience.

Great setup. Looks like your room width is close to 13’ and your ceiling height is around 10’ or so. What is the distance from your screen to the hitting zone and do you think that’s a good sweet spot? It looks like 10’ or thereabouts. Your room dimensions are very close to what I am working with and I’m struggling with room width and the distance to screen part. Thanks

Is it really that bad for sim rooms to not paint walls black? Black paint is such a pain to get off the walls

Looks great – where did you get the gaming PC stand from? Looks good

Planning on doing a sim in my garage and always curious padding underneath since it’s going to be concrete.

I like that we got three light fixture changes. No shortcuts with OP!
