143 of the world’s best amateur golfers have come to the Scottish Highlands and there is much more than just silverware on the line with the winner earning a spot in four major championships including the AIG Women’s Open in August some of the world’s best have lifted this prize a stepping stone on the path to major glory who will tread in their footsteps this is the 122nd Women’s Amate Championship good morning and welcome to Nan Golf Club in Scotland for live coverage of the final of the women’s amateur championship one of the most prestigious titles in amateur golf the beautiful links course of nan on the Murray FTH around 15 mi east of Invenesse has been a really tough test this week for 143 players in a real mixed bag of weather but today we’re down to the final two contenders it’s a head-to-head matchplay contest over 36 holes between the Spaniard Pao Martin San Pedro and Farah O’Keefe from the USA up for grabs are the historic title a beautiful trophy and those exemptions to four majors so it’s a huge day in the careers of San Pedro and O’Keefe and you can enjoy all the twists and turns live with us until we have a champion so here we go then it’s all built towards this our two finalists today have played seven rounds already since Tuesday and another 36 holes maybe more maybe more we’ll get on to that in a second but 36 holes ahead of them today and they will join an incredible roster of past winners of this event one of them will anyway so yesterday it was uh gray all day it was calm at this time yesterday morning those flags are uh blowing with a bit more strength now and given where we are appropriate that we have a piper archie Smith [Music] heat heat [Music] well done to young Archie Smith Katrina Matthew in the commentary box alongside me virtually standing to attention during that that was that’s a great way to start isn’t it rousing way to start the day isn’t it for the start of this final and this is Paula Martin San Pedro the Spanish contender for today’s title 19 years old she has had a very very strong week already knocked out two American players will want to do the same today and they are moments away now from teeing off in this final good morning and welcome to Nan Golf Club in Scotland for live coverage of this the final of the women’s amateur championship one of the most prestigious titles in amateur golf and we are down to these two players Paula Martin San Pedro of Spain on the left and Farah O’Keefe of the USA Katrina Matthew alongside me in the commentary box and Katrina it feels fitting that it does feel like we have the two best players this week in the final final yes we do farro Keith ranked number eight paulo Martin San Pedro number 12 in the amateur world rankings so the quality has kind of risen to the top and I think we’re in for a cracking final today farah O’Keefe in particular had an incredible path to this final just yesterday in fact in both the quarterfinal and semi-final but the semi-final especially O’Keefe was four down with five to play against Tilly Claget of Canada got back to all square after 18 and then won the first extra hole it was it was a stirring comeback for a does that mean she’ll be coming in completely bouncing here today will she be full of confidence after that comeback i mean I think after that comeback yes last night she’d have been great really good but this is a whole new date i think it’s a whole new match obviously against a different player but obviously she finished her quarterfinal maybe a little kind of ropily so to get that great finish golf club for the final of the beautiful trophy they’re playing for women’s amateur championship this year’s finalists are from Spain Paula Martin San Pedro and for the United States of America Farah O’Kee this is a 36 hole final and the referee for this morning’s round is Stuart Graham on the tea Paula Martin San Pedro [Applause] She was the best ranked European player in the field coming in this week and here she is in the final Applause from behind the tea box lovely way to start right down the middle farah [Applause] farah O’Keefe made the cut at the US Women’s Open a Fortnite ago finished inside the top 40 from Austin Texas she was watching slightly more anxiously yeah perhaps just caught that bunker down the left hand side wind different direction today into on these out on the outward nine so a different golf course today but they’ll be pleased just to get away get off i was going to say in amongst your glorious career Katrina you won this event in 1993 do you have memories of of the final and how you were feeling going into it yeah I mean you’re obviously going to be feeling nervous you you you they’ve been out there they’ll have warmed up they have practiced you just want to get going this will feel like a a marathon to them compared to the first four rounds just with 18 holes kind of a sprint so you know they can settle in get into this match try and get up early but they’ve really is going to have to nearly pace themselves with it being 36 hole final as we see the players coming towards us so San Pedro on the left in the navy tracksuit and Pharaoh Keef on the right wearing the white sweater red Team USA cap you’ll see their caddies as well and the and the caddies are are both interesting in different ways so San Pedro being caddy for today by her friend and Spanish teammate Paula Francisco who San Pedro beat in the quarterfinal yesterday so that’s a nice little tale and Brian Ba Watson caddying for Farah O’keefee for a local guy and they’ve been chattering away to each other as you can see they’re doing it right now a tremendous relationship between those two so our encourse reporter this week and she’s down there again today following all 36 holes and maybe more if we need them is Sophie Walker morning Sophie good morning good morning everybody from the first tea at Ner and next to this wonderful trophy we’re looking for the sixth winner of this a Spanish player or the second American in a row and I think you were right Katrina we certainly have the cream of the crop playing today wind conditions into on those first nine holes into out the left ever so slightly so totally opposite from what we had yesterday and we’ve had overnight rain when Farro Keefe was finishing yesterday we started to have some drizzle but overnight it really did come down so expect soft conditions out there scoring conditions now let’s look at the players it was been great seeing them warm up on the practice ground just next to each other the final two and that’s what it’s all about you want to be the last one in the locker room the last one on the putting green when they turn professional that’s the idea isn’t it to t last in the afternoon and there are four professional events that they can gain access if they win this including the AIG Women’s Open at Royal Pore now the Spanish player Paula she is the best Spanish player at the moment somebody that I have commentated on for a few years now she’s gained access to le tournaments she’s played on the ladies European tour as an amateur and had top 20s goes to Stamford University where Michelle Wi went Tiger Woods went they have got the best female golf program in the world and then Far O’Keefe in the Curtis Cup Suningale just last year where Katrina Matthew was the captain she was second alternate for that USA team what a turnaround it’s been for her she goes to the University of Texas and like you said that day yesterday i’m so interested to see how she comes out because emotions must have been high low such a roller coaster but I think the fact we’ve got 36 holes today it’s a marathon not a sprint we’re going to see some quality golf and the best golfer will win it’s so unusual in match play to get the high ranked players into the final but this is going to be a treat and I can’t wait to get out there and watch thank you very much Sophie and right on Q Farah O’Keefe second shot into the first a great start there i thought she’d maybe caught the bunker off the tea but hadn’t and that was a lovely iron shot the strength of her game and San Pedro we’ve been impressed by all week very neat and tidy player wasn’t quite ready for the Curtis Cup last year but I have a feeling she might be in your team next year we’ll see but San Pedro second shot into this first hole that’s safe thought she maybe might have got a little bit of a flyer out that just that first cut of rough but a completely different hole today yesterday we saw Claget nearly drive the green and today they’re going in with mid irons it’s amazing just that the switch in the wind has made such a difference and the softer conditions as Sophie said so the last Spanish winner of this event was 16 years ago as a haramoth in 2009 it was an all Spanish final actually in that year carlott Saganda was the runner up at Royal St davids and Saganda had won herself in 2007 against Anna Nordquist of Sweden and the weather forecast look at The word sunny’s in there partly sunny partly sunny but uh yeah reasonably warm for these parts of Katrina and the wind is the key the key thing i think going to be a lovely day today um you know getting up to 18° nice and warm and as you say the wind 12 to 15 that can on the coast that always just feels that little bit stronger just going back to the list of Spanish winners we actually had five Spanish winners of this women’s amateur in nine years between 2001 and 2009 bellen Moso was the other Spanish winner in 2006 and as Sophie mentioned maybe two American winners in a row oh there’s the there’s the partly sunny that’s more than partly I would say i think we’re going to have a sun soon melanie Green of the USA won at Portman 12 months ago but before that you have to go back 29 years to Kelly Keaney’s victory at Royal Liverpool for another American win so they’ve been few and far between they have been few and far between but I think with their team USA concept now they’re bringing teams over now the last few years so we perhaps see some more Americans contending for this championship in the future and we have to be honest as well Katrina you know lots of the European players British players spend so much time in US universities that they owe a lot to the American system as well to a certain extent yeah it’s a fantastic system you see a lot of our our the top European kind of amateurs going over getting a college degree and it’s just the whole they learn so much about themselves and and how to travel and it’s a great program they’re all playing against against each other against the best amateurs in the world that’s a beautiful shot isn’t it we can see the sun coming through the clouds there in the in the distance we haven’t seen that sand in the distance looking quite so bright have we we haven’t and some Pedra here the pins 15 yds on so this will be a good test see if she’s got the pace of the greens today might be a little slower after the overnight rain just rolled on that kind of awkward distance you just want to get off to a nice solid start get a good couple of nice holes in not try and put yourself under any pressure katrina would you be saying to yourself to try to win both 18s you know are you going out there on this first hole thinking this is a 36 hole contest or are you going out there thinking let’s just try and win this first 18 first no I think I would be going out there just trying to win every hole winning as quickly as possible would be my um cuz you know your opponent’s a good player so you don’t want to give them any little bit of of light so I think I would be going out there just trying to win every hole winning by as much as I could so a chance to win this first hole for O’Keefe yeah fabulous second shot she had in got a great chance here just down the hill maybe just a fraction fraction of break off the left not quite but that’s a gimme for a part yeah I think with it being as you say 36 holes in a marathon the less kind of pressure you can put on yourself with leaving yourself these kind of six sevenfooters just kind of wears you out so a test of San Pedro’s putting right from the off hit awkward length when you need to sink it to half this first hole one good thing is she got a good line from O’Keefe’s putt so inside left firm and a good putt there yeah solid start from both players two pars but that will make San Pedro feel good knocking that one home and we’ve got two as well as two great players and you know this might sound a bit sort of I don’t know bit a bit sentimental almost but we have two very very nice people out there as well don’t we two two very good characters they play with a smile on their face and that’s actually great to see as well isn’t it yeah they do i mean I think uh the two PAS there they had a difficult match in the quarterfinal where we didn’t see much emotion from either of them difficult to play a good friend but you know since then PA Francisco’s caddied uh the last two rounds now and and you can just see them chatting away they look like they’re having fun and as you mentioned Farah and her local caddy Brian are having a great time two great characters we’re told that Brian’s known as BA aren’t we ba Watson yeah and a former club champion at the other course Numbar so a good player in his own right more blue skies as we move on to the second hole of par five 451 yards ahead of them and Sophie mentioned about the wind being in a different direction today how significant is that yeah I mean they were easily reaching this one yesterday but I mean they’ll need two good two good shots today back into this wind 450 yards we’re probably playing closer to about 480 490 back into the breeze just need to try and miss that bunker down the right at 260 we’ll have a look around see where that one land landed she certainly looked a bit nervous after striking the ball yeah the fairway bunker’s just come into play a little bit more with the change in the wind direction you’ve got the one on the left that’s 236 so that’s a big big hit to carry that into the wind oh and the arms come off well a bit of a wild one for O’Keefe in so the second TE not being kind to either player in this 36 final of the women’s amateur championship here at N golf club right whilst we uh go and try and find their golf balls we’ll take a look at the aerial view of this second hole katrina yeah the par five 451 yds and you can just see those two fairway bunkers the one on the left probably not quite in play 235 over it but the one on the right 261 that’s they’re just going to be right in play and to have any chance of reaching this green in two today they need to avoid those bunkers if they can hit the fairway but they’re then going to clear shot up at this green with just the one bunker there on the left hand side which the pin is just tucked eight on 10 from the right so just on the front right today so a nice clear opening to it so good birdie chance a good birdie chance if you hit it well off the tea but we uh we wait to see where the two players have ended up because certainly O’Keefe we could tell that the arm came off the club and could be well wide whereas whereas San Pedro it felt as though maybe she was a bit closer to the fairway let’s hope I think Sophie’s down there with one of the balls sophie I am I’ve found Paula’s ball it was the easiest to find hence why me and Frank came down here just outside the gor in a slightly bare lie 219 yards to the flag and as she’s down that right hand side she has a better look she can actually play towards the fairway bunkers and the greenside bunkers on the left hand side into wind second shot so probably as Sophie was saying it’s going to be just very lie dependent you’d think she’s going to have to need a 3-wood so it just depend whether she feels she can get a 3-wood out that lie but as Sophie said the one thing she’s got no trouble so she can run it up even if she can get it out and scuttle it up onto near up and near the green who did you get first um the one on the left paula San Pedro is over to the right hand side of the fairway meanwhile uh Farah O’Kee for long long way wide left yes she has might be far enough left that she’s actually got an okay lie looks like there’s a walkway there whether she’s caught that or just the rough we will find out yeah if she’s coming this way towards us it means that her ball’s on this walkway so that’s a that’s a real break isn’t it look I mean look at how thick the stuff is the other side of her and where the gorses that’s a huge break she’d been in that Heather that would have been a real just chip out back onto the fairway spaniards just asking for a couple of things to be moved ahead of them couple of buggies etc just need to be moved for San Pedro to take her second but yeah this is an incredible incredible bit of fortune for O’Keefe because she is well wide of the fairway i think we’ve got one buggy there with no driver we can just see it over there on the right hand side driverless technology has not reached golf package yet i mean it probably has somewhere but Gosh look at this break and she’s managed to miss the two divots she’s just in a prime spot now camera but Keith just waiting for obviously San Pedro to play just getting a buggy moved out the way so San Pedro here beat her caddy uh Paula Francisco 4-2 in yesterday morning’s quarterfinal and then beat Katerina Dawn 3 and two from Italy in the semi thank you there goes the road buggy so we’re good to go again and it looks like she got a good contact on that watching it just running close to that bunker might just have stayed just short of it but you can hear the wind today you hear it whistling there maybe just picking up a little let’s go down to Sophie again who’s with O’Keefe’s ball we’re closer to the 16th green than the second fairway but like you say miss some divots opting for an iron 206 pin wants to be short left of this green aiming at the green side bunker what a shot that was a great long iron there i saw her hit long iron off the tea a lot yesterday that was a great shot we spoke a lot yesterday about the the short game being the best element of her game but that was a cracker that after that really good bit of fortune but making the most of it with a superb shot and we’ve spoken already about her semi-final yesterday against Tilly Clag coming four down with five to play but before that her quarterfinal at this time yesterday morning it was almost the reverse she ended up beating Maria Leen Madson of Denmark by one hole but it was O’Keefe who almost let the lead slip in that one so she had a really topsyturvy day she did sometimes it can just you know she was kind of two three up most of the round in that quarterfinal and just kind of got a little nervous a little edgy sometimes just trying to win that last hole to win the match can be difficult and then as you said in the afternoon it was the complete opposite she was four down with five to go and she played some good golf and won a couple of holes and Claget you know gave her perhaps a couple of holes but um sometimes it can just be that little bit easier trying to push and come from behind she’s had a really battling week and this championship starts with two rounds of stroke play right back at the start of the week Tuesday and Wednesday and O’Keefe finished one under through those two rounds of stroke play san Pedro three under so they were both around and about the top 10 of the stroke play element to get through to the match play rounds and since then it’s been straight knockout from 64 players down to these two and it can as Sophie said earlier be quite unusual to have you know two of the the top players make it all the way in match play but it just shows their their class has kind of won out in the previous previous rounds and it’s a tough old challenge this this championship isn’t it that you know these two will have played nine rounds by the end of today a mixture of stroke play and match play mentally it must be very very tiring i think mentally more tiring than anything i mean I think physically they’ll both be very fit players and N pretty flat golf course quite compact easy one to walk around so but mentally I think the strain of having each day have that strain trying to win and for O’Keefe to be involved in two big comebacks one sort of against her one for her even more draining you would have thought yeah and she played a lot of holes yesterday uh 37 holes so I think we’ve got San Pedro i think she’s just missed the bunker here it’s a fairly straightforward little pitch just probably our kind of gap wedge clip this off the top one bounce on the green and just a little bit of check on the second bounce nicely played this has the feel of a match that could go a long way has the fear of a match we might see again in the future at Soulheim Cup yes you just never know it’s amazing you go I mean talking about the past winners Carlos Saganda Aahara Minos I played in Soulheim Cups with them and so it’s amazing how all everyone they kind of all come together again in professional ranks a lot of them and players including yourself Katrina have gone on from winning this event to to winning majors as well so it it you know it really does it’s not a guarantee that a player is going to go on to become a star of course but it’s uh it has a pretty good track record doesn’t it does well as you see it’s nine rounds of golf have got play so the the the best players tend to come out on top in the end leona Magguire Georgia Hall couple of the names that have come through winning this title as O’keefee lines this putter up she’s a good putter has a very set steady routine yeah for for eagle and to win oh just very like her putt in the first just just perhaps lacking a ounce of speed to hold it on the line but a nice easy birdie the pressure again on San Pedro to hold that kind of six sevenfooter yeah very similar to the first hole actually this situation on the first hole it was for two pars here san Pedro needs to hold this for two birdies it’s interesting san Pedro just obviously likes doing her own thing lining up her own putts we’ve seen O’Keefe use Brian a lot on the greens to help her oh it’s a good contest already this isn’t it and twice now San Pedro has sunk putts to have the hole yeah two very nice putts to hold those nice to get a kind of couple you expect to hold them but they’re very missable those kind of six seven footers so they walk to the third hole which par four 371 yards ahead of them yeah we saw Tilly Claget drive the screen yesterday but not into the wind today slight dog leg left some gor down the right that you’ve got to avoid and a couple of bunkers on the left but if you can hit the fairway here it should be a good birdie chance coming in with a shortish iron san Pedro just going with the 3-wood here I think just to take out the the possibility of going in the gor down the right hand side you don’t need me to tell you it’s windy we can hear it on the microphones a lovely sound there you hear from her likes that one looking away always a good sign when they go and pick the the tea up quickly and that’s perfect seven women’s amateur champions have also gone on to win majors including an American babe Zaharius went on to win 10 majors there’s something for Pharaoh Keefe to aim for she would love that i know Keith with a 3wood as well just to put it in position [Applause] that one looks good as well and that will be a settler won’t it after the wild T- shot on the previous hole you can see the two balls have pretty much rested up level with each other on the fairway so it’s been a good solid start from both players in this final of the women’s amateur championship both on the green no I’m enjoying this this is good standard of play two really interesting players to be watching yeah I thought it was interesting yesterday we heard Pharaoh Keith being interviewed that she’s she’s loving her caddy because they’re chatting to each other trying to not about golf just to take her mind off it because sometimes I think what goes on in the head is a golfer’s worst worst worst nightmare that’s right she said to stop my mind rambling which I quite enjoyed yeah yeah but that is such a significant part of any caddie’s role isn’t it you’re not you’re not there just to you know push the clubs carry the clubs etc you’re there to be a confidant and a and a counselor when you need to be i think try and keep it light i mean 36 holes I mean that’s what are going to be potentially 8 hours of golf you can’t concentrate for that long so we saw two good drives on this third hole and Sophie is in between the two of them yes they’re very close together it looks like the Spanish player will be first 154 yards to the front edge 162 to a front left pin there’s at least a club wind up in the air i would say Sarus’s ball slightly below her feet so look for that left to right shape but mid iron at least in here but it’s very conservative off the tea bit of a slope to contend with for their seconds so San Pedro checking that distance she may as well just ask Sophie it’s nice to see a bit of bit of brightness out there bit of sunshine some shadows now which is always nice welcome back to Nen we’re on the third hole of this Women’s Amateur Championship final and the sun is doing its best to come through the clouds i’m pleased to report and if you’re just joining us it’s PA Martin San Pedro on the left of Spain up against Farah O’Keefe of the USA in this 36 hole match final this is O’Keefe with the team USA cap on and her local caddy ba Watson who has helped her an incredible amount this week keeps on chatting away to her which she said has really helped her but it will be the Spaniard San Pedro just across there on the fairway who’s going to hit first yeah with a mid iron maybe about a sixiron here from 162 back into the wind to front left pin and that got a lovely bounce lovely members bounce there lovely shot i think she’s liking that bounce she got she really is yeah san Pedro and her teammate and caddy Francisco enjoying that one so can Faroh Kee respond yeah just a couple of yards closer as we saw from San Pedro she can bring it in from that right hand side and the contours are going to kick it down 20 ft right here okay nice smooth okay hand comes off the club again we saw that on the second T-shot well I mean that’s that’s not too bad obviously it it looked as though it was going to be much much worse from her reaction yeah she cleared that front left bunker she’s going to have a little chip so opposite from the first two holes we’ve got uh San Pedro with the birdie chance and O’Keefe trying to get up and down from the side of the green that short game is very very good we’ll see what she can produce down down there next to the third green worth mentioning the four majors that the winner today will get exemptions for at the Evian Championship in France the AIG Women’s Open which is at Royal Pool this year starts on the 31st of July it’s the first time Royal Pall has staged that championship and it’s set to be the biggest women’s sporting event ever held in Wales tickets are still available 31st of July to the 3rd of August there’s also an exemption for the US Women’s Open next year and the Chevron Championship as well yeah that’s fabulous to get a chance to play in all those four majors and these two have both played in the Augusta National Women’s Amateur the Anoir as it’s known as well there is an exemption into that event but both of these players would be there anyway they have both played at Augusta already too yeah they would be probably exempt with their Thai world rankings and a ladies European tour event as well so it is it is life-changing it’s career changing to win this obviously the exemption only applies if the player remains amateur and that’s actually a key decision isn’t it yes i think well San Pedra’s still got a couple of years left at Stanford so you’d imagine she definitely would uh you know stay amateur but I think just to have the have the experience of of playing in those the the biggest events there are in the women’s game gives you just such a a chance to see where your game measures up to against the best professional players in the world there’s also the championship cup or the trophy up for grabs a gold medal the Pan Barton memorial salva as well the runner up gets the Diana Fishwick Cup and a silver medal it really is winner gets all in this event there’s a lot up for grabs today but being played in a good spirit plenty of camaraderie because of that US collegiate system these two will have played each other alongside each other i’ve played in many college tournaments together so we’ve got a Keith just pulling the putter out here always a good play on Links Golf I would say from just around the the fringes of the green it’s not a play we’ve seen very often though is it we don’t tend to see it particularly from the American players who do seem to prefer prefer to chip but perhaps this is the Caddy’s influence perhaps yeah i mean I think they’re just so unus to putting from off the green it is certainly something you have to have to get used to and practice we can see she’s got a little ridge just to come up just got to get enough speed get it up there get it rolling out towards the hole very good from O’Keefe judged that perfectly she is very very good around the greens but San Pedro got a good chance here for Birdie hold two good putts on the first two holes this is the first time San Pedro has had an opportunity to to putt for a win rather than putting into a harbor hole i’m blocked out of ste I’m afraid oh she’s given that a tremendous roll and that’s good putts on all three greens now the first two were to have the hole that one to win the hole and San Pedro of Spain goes one up on O’Keefe very good putt there birdie putt single putted the first three greens now so the first move of that final and the two players making their way to the fourth hole and Sophie Walker is up on the fourth green don’t go in those bunkers on the fourth a par three we switch and come back towards the clubhouse a downwind hole 155 yards it’ll be about a nine iron for these players now look at this pin position it’s in the most narrowest point of this green everything runs from right to left so if you take it down the right hand side flirt with these two bunkers you can get a nice kick in everything funnels to that pin you want to get the right club but boy do you want to be accurate because this green is tiny but it’s downwind par three the fourth so the first par three challenge of the final and a great description there from Sophie everything just as she was saying funnels in towards that that pin there we saw a lot of the players just in about that position yesterday but downwind expect two good shots here if you’re San Pedro you must uh must be feeling pretty pretty confident about the way you’ve started this this final because you’ve sunk three clutch putts yeah definitely two birdies two under through three very solid start but here 155 downwind probably at least a club downwind maybe just a little a turn iron just need as Sophie said carry that front right bunker and it’s all going to kick down towards the hole oh this time the bounce isn’t so kind she had a great bounce on the previous hole but that one has sent the ball tumbling away to the back of the green that was a huge bounce she got there especially with all that overnight range you wouldn’t be expecting that so O’keefee to tee off second her yeah I think sometimes you can really learn a lot if you’re teeing off second because she’ll have played she’ll know how far they they hit it in relation to each other whether they’re the same club or one less one more so she’ll have seen what club San Pedro hit so Farah O’Keefe who’s added another layer might be Chile over in that corner of the course oh and this looks a beauty what a T-shot on the fourth from Farah O’Keefe goodness me we’re being treated to a high standard of goal so far this morning she liked that one didn’t she and why not had a flicker of a chance of going in and I love her notebook by the way in the back pocket it says hook them on it the uh the slogan of the University of Texas there she doesn’t hook many she hooked one on the second and got got away with it but she doesn’t hook that many so Pa Martin San Pedro has uh been really impressing everybody this week let’s uh find out a little bit more about her yeah I’m really happy um this is the furthest I’ve made it uh in this championship i think it’s going to be really fun especially cuz uh my family will probably get to watch it from home so that’s going to be nice and uh I really like it it it definitely shows the importance of this championship i’ve played a few times before with cameras and it’s definitely a challenge but uh getting used to it little by little and really excited about tomorrow it would mean a lot uh this is a championship with a lot of history and legacy a few Spanish players on both the men and women’s side have won so uh putting my name on that trophy would be definitely a dream come true yeah it would be it would be so good especially I just played my first major US Open a couple weeks ago and it was such a great experience so hopefully I can get to play many more in the future and well winning this championship will give me the chance to play the next four so that’ll be that’ll be really nice and here we are looking down over the over the Murray FTH and San Pedro slightly unlucky got a very firm first bounce here leaving herself just run right to the back of the green leaving herself kind of probably 60 ft back towards the hole and more people on the beach today I think now the sun’s out all the dog walkers are going to be out in force today and here’s San Pedro back down the hill that shoulder of that bunker just going to affect the putt coming down it’s going to kick it from right to left oh fabulous spot there Rob pretty good pretty good you’d have to say should be pleased with that get your eye distance wise early in the round and you’re up it’s going well make your partner have to make birdies to beat you it’s good she was very composed yesterday and looked very much in control of what she’s doing she was she just never really looked flustered no and I think holding those two good kind of six seven footers on the first and second and then a you know a 20 footer there in the third she’s obviously got her eye in on the greens but a great chance here for Keith to make birdie and get back to all square has Brian cracked the sweets open yet this morning not yet but perhaps a birdie here it’s a hard task master great T-shot as you say had a little look just perhaps a touch of break out the right hand side she’s been a little short of pace in her first couple of putts so let’s see if she can just be a little bit firmer on this one brilliant very good back in the game they’ve had a week haven’t they those two they have had a week regardless of what happens today yeah it’s great to see they’ve obviously just clicked completely you know when they first met chatting away similar characters not too much chance either of those will get sunburn today they’ve got the layers on look they’ve got the layers on at the moment but I’m sure they’ll be coming off okay it’s coolish it’s not very warm the change in wind direction makes a difference a huge it’s like playing a different golf course completely opposite direction a lot of Lynx courses are not like this they might be coastside but they’re up a little bit and you look down onto the beach this is almost beach level all of it very close it is it’s I always find it amazing how many links courses you sometimes don’t actually see the beach or the sea that much even though you’re probably within 100 yards of it yeah it’s blowing pretty good now driver that’s a better one after a pull on the second back down to hitting the fairway tilly Claget drove the screen yesterday that’s 370 yards that’s great isn’t it see that the beach even comes into play we’ve seen a couple of players play from the beach seems happy with that as well late applause [Applause] yeah I think that’s fine just on the left hand side of the fairway they’re both going to be playing from about the same spots distance-wise so that’s a little more interesting than 30 or 40 yards removed from your opponent i’ll have a look a little look at what’s in your bag i know especially in the par threes you little and you know as a player you you have an idea of how far you hit it that’s that’s the funny thing isn’t it when you know caddies show the other caddy what what the player hit but you’re allowed to go and have a look in the bag they don’t really do that do they oh they do they do you’re only supposed You can look in the bag and see what’s missing you can do that but you you’re not meant to um offer the free information lots of semaphore and fingers sticking out and stuff like that yeah well thankfully the the rain that we had yesterday because it was a very dull looking affair it’s much more cle like it yeah obviously heavy rain overnight let’s get to Sophie she’s on the prowl she’s got a mic she’s live far look at this look at all the people out watching and the dog walkers on the beach this is pretty cool it’s a I’ I’d say this is probably a three three in 365 day in Scotland cuz we’ve already had the other two so um I don’t know i’m just enjoying it out here a little breezy but nothing compared to yesterday no rain so it’s it’s a dream yeah now I was speaking to your caddy Brian and he says “Well for when the Americans come out and play I normally reward each shot or a birdie with a whiskey.” Not for you though no we have to go with the sweeties so that’s what I’ve got going this week um just it’s sports mix i don’t know we don’t have that in the States but he gave it to me like the first day we were here and I was like “Yeah that’s my stuff that’s my candy.” Yeah I think we can get rid of the word candy now it’s definitely sweets you need to take that back to America now your American team they’ve really embraced coming over to the women’s amateur we spoke about last year’s winner what’s so good about being in this women’s amateur as a team and individually um I think for us you know when we go as a we don’t get to compete all that often overseas a lot of our events are at home and so especially like so many of us are playing in college so we’re in we’re in a college season all year round so when we actually get the opportunity to go overseas and represent our country whether it’s at as a team or an individual it’s a really special moment and kind of only something that you get to do a limited number of times so we’re just enjoying it here i think it’s the best of best of any golf that you could get so I’m having a lot of fun well we’re enjoying watching you good luck and carry on it will bruise you like it is thank you guys when you’re an American competitor you know that your wardrobe is going to consist of red white and blue whether it’s Soulheim Cup Ryder Cup it never changes yes they do love their red white and blue and why not representing their country as she said there’s no greater honor here’s San Pedro with her second shot that pins kind of tucked 17 on five from the right two big bunkers kind of just looking to gobble this up on the right but managed to avoid them in a good shot another good birdie chance and you can see that flag now fluttering away getting looks like it’s getting a little stiffer that looked like a five you hitting there very good shot the two powers Francisco and San Pedro they’re a good little double act yeah still locked together and so nice of Poer Francisco beaten in the quarterfinals by San Pedro but just shows the camaraderie amongst the teams wanting to go out there and help her friend keith’s perfect position here be able to see that flag she goes up and down the grip quite a lot with her approach shots try and control the ball flight she’s full length this with a nine iron doesn’t like it ragged finish to the swing maybe just caught one of those bunkers on the right that I was talking about but she’ll be used to playing in the wind i mean everyone always thinks the weather in America is perfect but coming from Texas they get a fair bit of wind just warmer warmer wind which to be fair I don’t think affects the ball quite as much it’s definitely a heavier wind over here very much so how can it be that you have a heavy wind but that is true at these courses it’s just denser it just is it’s difficult to describe but it just definitely affects the ball more how it flies i’m slightly concerned that she thinks we get such terrible weather here in Scotland what how ridiculous how ridiculous we’ve had a fantastic spring and lead into the summer i see you got OBBE after your name trish Johnson just got an award yeah Trish just got an MBE absolutely delighted for her is is Trish lesser or greater who’s got the better gong well afraid to say she’s slightly lesser but I think she good this is great news i think Dammo’s got the best oh Damer yes yeah dame Laura but yeah no delighted for Trish welld deserved she’s been such a fantastic player in the Europe and supporter of the European tour over many years she would knock you out playing Tiddly Wings such a fierce competitor yeah I was playing a tournament last week i was partnering Becky Morgan and Laura and Trish were playing together and we had a little match in our practice round and it was uh ferociously competitive right chipping and putting required fortunate to miss one of those bunkers now she’s got an ups slope and she’s got the wind into her face and she’s got a rise that she’s got to cope with she’s got a lot of loft in her hand so I’ve got to think she’s going to try and fly onto the flat perhaps not how we would play it but that this is the shot she’s grown up playing she’s going to take the slope out of play pitch it up on the top yep for sure i love the way she just grips down there on it very well played [Applause] well that second shot would have annoyed her because she’s as she showed us yesterday very very capable with her irions she got that one all wrong but the recovery was very good and she’s just worked hard to get it back to all square so don’t want to give a cheap one away and there second shot maybe just just maybe caught up in the wind ever so slightly be interesting to hear what Sophie’s got to say but it definitely looks like it’s just picking up a little bit yeah it’s got it’s got more of a lynxy feel about it today but a great shot in by San Pedro and a good another good birdie chance oh goodness what a pass that was great deadly she’s got to feel like she can’t miss terrific run through the opening holes that was never anywhere else that just perfect speed she knew that was in about 5t short the hole lots of tooth enamel now she’s very pleased with life and the important thing for her you know they very much looked like a Spanish island over there that she has someone to talk to because when she played the quarterfinals pushing her own cart or electric car as her opponent did Francisco um they looked kind of lonely didn’t they they were very much not talking to each other much and it it just looked like it was very arduous now they’ve got a bit of chat with American accents yeah it really looked well maybe not if they’re speaking Spanish but it really like they they didn’t really enjoy that quarterfinal having to play against each other but here we are on the sixth the second par three 162 yards pin just 11 on and eight from the right today it was 11 on yesterday so it’s the same distance up the green just slightly pushed to the other side but again back into that breeze as we were saying the basically about the first nine go out the way into the breeze i think it’s only four and eight that come the other way that’s a lovely view there but it looks like a a 40 yard pitch yes don’t be fooled no it’s not you can see that she’s trying to punch a sixiron here she’s finding the greens starting to That was a good play center of the green if it had drifted to the right all well and good but when you’re first in the tea that’s what you want to do just put that little bit of pressure on your opponent let’s see if O’Keefe goes down the grip significantly on this one she did it yesterday coming in against the draft no using all of it she likes it be the right distance oh it is great response to losing the previous hole two fantastic shots on the two par threes going down yeah she might have two twos sophie on the sixth green what are they facing par three back into the teeth of the wind into from left to right i would say it’s getting up to a two club wind now short right bunker you don’t want to be there if that ball gets buffeted up in the air we’ve got a little slope here and a severe slope on the right hand side now when you’re trying to flight it down it can be easy to leak it out to the right and if you go down there you’re a good six feet below the green level so I’d be suggesting clubbing up and going long left here on the par 3 six well both players made the shot in there look quite straightforward but it’s not no nothing today is straightforward no 162 yds into the breeze or even the locals might nearly still be starting to call this a bit of a wind yes possibly they might they might concede that to you that was two good shots of Keith did there at about 8 ft two twos on the card could it be on the front line could easily be that do you think she went in the twos pool well if she did um she’s going to be collecting all the cash the thing is San Pedro’s one up she’s going to go first she holds her putt it’s match plays such a a nuance game you can be by far the least likely to hold the putt but you make it and then you make your other person miss you impose your game on them and they have to react to it and the way she’s been putting in these first five holes you wouldn’t count against this oh this is going to come up and over a little rise and then go down towards the cup she’s had great speed in her first five holes though and and that’s difficult to do because the wind does affect speed on the greens it does and the overnight rain just slightly different speeds every day probably that was a good try i think she feels she can hold everything very bold just about to say the same thing she’s only looking at holding it gone a little bit further past than perhaps she was would have been wanting but look at that you can just see it rolling you can see her line rolling great put so she’s four and a that’s a good four and 1/2 ft that O’Keefe’s got to assume that that’s going to go in so she has to hold this to square the game again yeah just a fraction left to right about the same distance as she hold on the fourth for birdie yeah yeah can always be quite tricky putting over your shadow it’s quite tricky when Brian keeps butting in normally two looks now and then she hits it oh great putt what a final we’ve got fantastic just trading birdies yeah her routine has not not one jot has it wavered either way it’s exactly the same every time same amount of looks same amount of practice putting strokes and that’s what you practice all do all these hours of practice for but sometimes even with all those hours of practice it’s difficult sometimes if you get nervous you can fall out your routine or I’ll just have another look and then where where does it end so they make their way to the seventh yep the par five that’ll play long today yeah 531 but back into that strengthening breeze if you’re tuning in for the first time this week we’re at Nen on the Murray FTH and generally speaking the course is straight out and straight back with a little wrinkle on the back nine but it’s into the wind on the way out and full sail coming back that’s the way it is and just two bunkers down here in the left hand side she’s obviously just going to play this as a three shot hole just taking them out of play a sensible play i mean links bunkers you they’re stroking distance usually 100% if you can’t reach it use your three shots to get there another one dispatched down the fairway that’s perfect you can see from the lack of bounce and roll how much that wind is stalling those T-shots yesterday we’re seeing them bouncing down the fairways when you hit the fairway san Pedro playing it the same way three shot hole left just watching that a little then fine left but she took the 3-wood to take the bunkers out of play well both players must feel like the only way I’m going to win a hole is by making a birdie somewhere the way they’ve started yeah and on the more difficult nine today into the wind which is great it’s great to see a great final you know two top players having a real ding-dong battle and I was talking actually to Anne Walker who’s the the Stanford coach who’s the coach of uh San Pedro and said she’s such a hard worker and just absolutely loves golf and she kind of identifi Oh sorry are we going to hear from Sophie Walker maybe talking to San Pedro you’ve done that beautifully well it’s a beautiful morning and there’s some fantastic there’s some fantastic golf out here do you feel like you need to make birdie to win the hole yeah 100% uh the wind is blowing quite hard and uh we’re definitely off to a great start so it looks like it’s going to be a great match yeah and you’ve got your friend Pow about on the golf course you know to keep your mind off being in the final yeah i uh other stories that we have from the past we’ve spent a lot a lot of time together so there’s plenty to talk about i’m not going to ask about them stories and you keep them little bit of break up there don’t worry about that we’ll we’ll hear from them again because there’s only two players to watch today so we’ve got all day paula was the Love Island girl yesterday was she not did she not say Did she not indulge in your favorite TV show and she said Love Island she could well have been actually i think she did i was more with Madson in the department queue okay yeah that that looks really good actually i’ve watched a couple of those that’s the tale of the tape and nothing to separate the two players so far as it should be with two highquality world ranked amateur players playing in one of the big finals the women’s amateur and no sign that that breeze is disappearing anywhere soon so Keith to go first yeah just out with another 3-wood there’s two bunkers just kind of 80 yards short of the green i’d imagine she’s just going to play short of them and I think that’s something a lot of you know higher handicap amateurs can learn from it’s strategy it’s not always perhaps driver and go for the green on the right got it well these bunkers here oh they’re sweet so you’ve done well fresh got a fresh pack i quite like the whiskey the whiskey notion there’s a we drum it’s a bit deceiving this she’s just edging the fairway on the left hand side and just a three-wood here knock it down hopefully about 100 yards short she looked to me like she felt she’d tugged that one again we’ll see she’s smiling though so that’s good news so miss that these holes are so different downwind not a problem into the wind this is playing a proper par five it is isn’t it yeah you’ve got to got to have a bit of strategy here you can see these two bunkers on the left that were about 225 off the tea hence why they took the 3-wood just to lay up short of them so then from there they want to then navigate their way down this fairway you can see how close it is to the water and just lay up short of these two bunkers which are just 80 yards short of the front of the green and then leave yourself a short iron in into the green the pins 15 yds on just eight from the left so tucked over perhaps that front left bunker and the crowds are beginning to build people are coming out yeah I think the nice weather nice weather nice breezy day on the coastline and look how clear view we see over there the other side of the Murray FTH that was shrouded yesterday at some point you actually couldn’t see any land there at all it was a low marine layer there and it was they’re quite grim looking this is so much brighter oh yeah up north there to some great golf courses have you been up there darn it do you know i have been up there but I’ve never played Dornuk and everybody says it’s it’s an absolute gem have you played Lymouth that’s just down the lossy mouth played there last year actually it was a lovely great course with the jets coming from area lossy mouth um that’s right next to the eighth hole I believe where where they where they land take off land take off played a Scottish amateur there one year many moons ago and someone’s ball actually got knocked off the tea with the force of the jet coming over oh did me and the noise and the noise yeah the noise it’s pretty special it’s a great golf course then no there’s a whole slew of courses I haven’t been to dawn at one of those everyone talks about Macraannanish they keep talking about that you go the other side that’s a tough one to get to but a great golf course yeah and then you’ve obviously Castle Stewart just west of here so battle of the short irons now into this par five yeah and not so short maybe this is This is a punchy eight iron here another quality iron shot relentless I would say it’s really good good quality in this breeze in this wind just to control the distance well here’s a player that lives in Austin so if you go Texas College like she does like we mentioned you play in the wind all the time see she’s way down the grip here just probably taking an extra club and just doing a little punch try and keep the spin off the ball it’s very good again very good i think that’s the key i always think playing in the wind is to try and keep the spin off the ball yeah people talk about controlling your spin you don’t It’s not like a dimmer switch you can’t if a flatout sandwich is 120 yards and you hit it flat out you can’t control the spin on that it’s just going to do what it does but you can choose to hit a longer club and hit it easier you can do it that way i would say that’s the easiest way to take a little bit of spin off is just to take as she did there you know grip down it take an extra club not hit it quite so hard there we go the Spaniards have done they’ve done well in this championship over the years yeah none none no one anywhere near the English though with 50 plus wins in this and I think the Scots were number two not this year for either of us this I mean this we might be looking at a Solheim Cup singles here down the road absolutely i mean obviously the previous winners Munos and Saganda she would love to follow in their footsteps and know Keith and Kelly Keiny sen cover please it’s a funny time to be you know in your journey to being a top professional this you’ll go through what they’re doing playing these top amateur events but you never know even if you’re highly fated you you you’ll never actually know if you’re what it’s going to look like what will it when I look at my career what will it look like when you’re at this stage no you can only you’re only it’s your dreams isn’t it you can only imagine that’s what you do all that work for you hold these putts to win the win the British amateur the women’s British amateur win the probably for uh San Pedro it would be to win the AIG Women’s British Open farah Keith oh can I win the US Women’s Open sure you’ve got the expectation and the hope well let’s see if she’s continuing to be bold with this club the putter everything’s being run at the hole that was just perhaps a misread hit it a bit too hard certainly bold still yeah putting a bit into the wind and went off in her hands a little bit so not the best one she’s hit a little bit that way we can see there Keith’s just back up the hill a little bit but they do love a chat about the lines don’t they brian walks two rounds for every round well it’s another birdie attempt and this is very makeable just did everything but go in no sweeties no but San Pedro she keeps leaving herself these awkward distance i just don’t think you can keep holding them see I look at it the other way round i I think if you give your putts a go and you’ve got three or four feet every time you make the other person think “Nah maybe I don’t have to hold this to win the game.” You almost force them into hitting a more defensive putt yes you’ve got to stand up now make the three or four footer but I think it affects what the other player does you were maybe a better putter than me i was always just wanting to get them closer get them in the hole well I didn’t want these knee knockers but another good putt i think that would exhaust me having to hold all these ones well she’s backing herself isn’t she you would have to think they’re both talking to each other in Spanish you would have to think that absolutely and I think they’ll love that so then Pharaoh Keith I’m not sure she can’t speak Spanish but potentially you know they they can chat away and Pharaoh in isolation yeah yeah doesn’t know what they’re saying so moving on to eight which turns back the way comes back down towards the club post so the first downwind hole they’ll experience and a short one just at 352 yards that would have been drivable yesterday for Sydney Claget and the and the really long players she was very impressive the distance she hit some Well the one she hit in the first extra hole down the first was 370 yards is nonsense now the club choice when the wind is blowing this strong can change by the day and this is as we said a completely different wind there’s a really good view of the hole straight down Gale and I think they’ll both be smashing their drivers down here you go right between the flags the flag but it’s still okay [Music] basically translated give it a rip brian loves it sweets are coming out that’s bounding down there long one absolutely perfect yeah you do want that one back different strategy fairway wood san Pedro so this will not go as far down but she’s split the fairway once again very very high quality golf congratulations to both players even at this stage Andy oh yeah they’re both three under I think aren’t they for their seven holes so far great stuff so they’re going to keep striding down here they’re going to be just flicking little lob wedges in into this one yeah 352 yds pretty much straight down wind it might be a hair off the right but the wind is such when you’re playing with the breeze behind you that it straightens the ball flight out so where you start the ball is really important it’s not going to swing that much in the air it’s the opposite when you turn back into the draft it’s exaggerated if you got any spin bias on it and they’re bowling along as well aren’t they they’re playing at a good pace they are i looked at through six holes i reckon it’s pace is 3 hours 15 yeah no uh neither player I think bothers with aim point do they they both uh they both um they do it casually it’s it’s not it’s not overbearing that’s right so the pace is good which we always like to see the spectators are uh increasing by number all the time as the weather improves and obviously people have had their breakfast and are heading out there completely free of charge if you are watching us and are anywhere near there and don’t forget it’s a 36hole final so there’ll be another round this afternoon that you could get along to and watch the way it feels at the moment it it’s hard to see that either player can finish 18 holes with the thought of another go this afternoon and have a four five up lead i can’t It doesn’t look like it no not at all i mean I hesitate to to to agree with you in the sense of I I think I you got something to do no I made predictions yesterday that went all all wrong uh because of the big comebacks but no I I mean this this looks like a real tussle doesn’t it h what I will say Andy is because the breeze is picking up now it’s blowing really nicely the pitches here are not going to be straightforward the pins a little bit up there’s a false front and you’re coming in downwind so seeing how they tackle this is going to be interesting yeah it’s interesting seeing the variety of challenges this this course poses these two and and neither player will be suited or experienced in links golf will they but what we have seen even just this morning the short game from from both these players is is absolutely top draw and it’s just been a superb match so far it’s everything we we hope for for me san Pedro there is interesting because she reached the last 32 of this event a couple of years ago then last year she reached the last 16 she was only beaten by the eventual champion Melanie Green now she’s reached the final there’s a there’s a really nice sense of progression there for for San Pedro and she’s learned something from from every time she’s come across to this event in Britain well I’ll tell you what she did off the tea she hit the fairway wood to leave herself a longer pitch in because when you’re that close to the green like O’Keefe is it’s going to be hard to stop it so she’s gambling that she’s going to get enough spin on this that she can land it on top and get it to grip even downwind i don’t think O’Keefe has got to hit this bumbling has got to run up that slope to where the pin is i know Americans see the game through the air but if she wants to get it close to that hole she’s going to have to pitch it short of the ups slope and you would think that’s what Brian or or BA Watson as as we’re told he’s known that’s what BA would surely be recommending it’s the shot he would play yeah it’s it’s a just a it’s just a shunt along the ground you can’t pitch this up on top mind you of course there’s no point a Caddy suggesting a type of shot to a player if they’re not comfortable playing it but let’s see i think she’s going to bounce this up she played the wrong shot it’s She’s got away with it because she pitched into the UPS slope but that would have been impossible to do on purpose that carries another yard it goes 30 ft by but she’s got away with it we were told yesterday that O’Keefe’s nickname is the frizz now I’m no expert on women’s hair but I think today is is nonfrizzy conditions for hair that’s bold you’ve gone you’ve gone to a murky place of which you probably don’t go to often all I remember is that yesterday when she described herself as the frizz Katrina says “Oh yes with the damp conditions today that will be a particular problem.” So I’m assuming that with it being dry today Yeah that’s no issue for her less moisture yeah okay but you’re right i I think neither of us are experts in that department no but yeah it’s definitely very breezy out there beautiful as you said earlier to be able to see across the coastline there o’keefe does a mean impression of her Caddy by the way as well i’m sure we’ll see it later on but uh she has picked up some Scottish dialect along the way yeah um with a you know a sense of pronunciation with it as well she was pretty good yesterday doing the Scottish accent it was almost Connoryesque that’s high praise well she’s by far the closest but her pup downwind tips away about 4 ft short the hole it starts to run away from her so the speed of her putt’s not going to be very easy to judge this in many ways is easier it’s back up into back up the hill and into the wind so long attempt here for San Pedro it’s been lightning around the greens today all weak in fact not bad but never never troubling the hole it’ll be easy for O’Keefe to knock this putt four or 5t by in a flash because the wind does affect speeds when you’re putting and the second half of her journey is downhill so to get her nose in front again a putt in the hole made sure of the part but a bit a bit tentative I felt there and every time the question’s been asked of San Pedro with the putter she has uh she has stepped up hasn’t she she’s made hauling out from three or four feet look very pedestrian straightforward doesn’t waste much time at all before you know it she struck it yeah same again rattled in san Pedro’s already beaten two American players this week megan Propek and Morgan Miller both beaten on the final hole of those match play contests this is the one that matters so now they head out the ninth that’s to the furthest point from the clubhouse that’s into the wind and then you’ll turn around and start coming back being helped by the breeze all the way in 13 then turns to the right goes up a hill away from the coastline 14 back down the hill and then the continuing nature of the golf course will be downwind well there’s there’s the breeze and this event started with two rounds of stroke play it was another one of the Americans who have come over for this event that uh led the way after the two rounds of stroke play jasmine Coup the world number nine went round 6870 for a score of six underpart and she was looking really really good eventually knocked out in one of the match play stages but she does get to take home Jasmine Coup the Doris Chambers trophy for being that leading qualifier in the stroke play competition and I’m sure Jasmine has stuck around to to support her teammate this weekend well ninth hole isn’t long it’s only 322 yds and again there are three bunkers that you need to avoid so it’s an iron off the tea strategy from the American she used this a lot yesterday into the wind on the backline holes so this is very similar [Applause] Thank you thank you this must be San Pedro’s favorite club threewood that looks straight down the middle beautiful scene on the ninth pole yeah there it is beautiful have the sun properly out now and it’s a great spectacle and I think Sophie Walker has reached the halfway house it’s a stunning view isn’t it and check out this halfway house at Ner Golf Club the Bothorthy 1877 that fisherman’s cottage has been there since and the ice house so the fishermen used to catch the salmon on the fth bring it in store it in that ice house and you can either eat it in that cottage or they went on to sell the salmon down at the market now it’s a halfway house and when you go inside you smell the smoke from the fire it shelters you from the bad weather sometimes here on the highlands but not today it’s absolutely gorgeous out there so I’m going to pop inside for a cup of tea or maybe something a bit stronger it’s all right for Sophie isn’t it yeah it’s not too bad for Sophie decent gig that one i wonder if they’ve got a special supply of sports mix ready and waiting for uh for BA to pick up at the halfway point i think she’s going in for a weed nip but it’s very idilic down there very picturesque and nice bit of history as well we’re not far away from the longest day which in this part of the world is probably getting dark at half 10 11:00 at night but everyone’s got eight layers on but woolly hats there is a woolly hat there yes on the right hand side there june the 15th that’s the one there you go yeah which is It’s tomorrow isn’t it what’s the day today 15th it’s today today the 21st is the longest day so we’re only you know days away from that it’s the men’s amateur next weekend at Royal St george’s yeah what a golf course one of my favorites it’s a Marmite course St george’s you either love it or you think it’s unfair i absolutely adore it the men will play one of the stroke play rounds at Royal Sorts as well but all the match play will be at Royal St george’s sports is a little bit like this all the way out and all the way back all right second shot she might be on a little bit of an ups slope here and if she is into the breeze that’s not much of a help another one dispatched straight at the target i tell you what if these two keep this up for 36 holes we’re in for a treat because uh it’s been great viewing so far san Pedro right in the center of the fairway can she follow again trying to three quarter it keep the ball flight flatter so it doesn’t stall in the air that’s a punch with an eight iron which he doesn’t seem to like right hand off means the ball’s going left you called it there Rob coming down towards that halfway house and both a nice house that Sophie was showing us so definitely advantage O’Keefee and this great course has got quite a pedigree when it comes to amateur golf it’s it’s held the Walker Cup the Curtis Cup the men’s and women’s amateurs it was the 1999 Walker Cup and the and the GB and Island team that year included Luke Donald Paul Casey couple of other big names in there as well it hosted a brilliant men’s amateur this course in 2021 led Shepard beat Monty Scousel at the 38th hole but Shepard had trailed by eight holes after the 17th of the morning round that’s a comeback that’s Gary Playeresque he won the 18th so he was seven down at lunch seven down at the halfway point and uh managed to come back and eventually win on the 38th so if this matches that we’ll be in for a long but fascinating day sam Pedro’s shot’s going to be interesting here because she’s fallen off the back left of the green and it’s not far from where the cuff of rough starts so it if she’s going with a putter to try and bat it up that slope she might have problems with the back swing which might mean she’s going to have to back foot something with a bit of loft and jam it up that slope and try and get it to grip if the putter is not going to swing back easily yeah it’s option two maybe because her pal Paula Francisco isn’t a caddy in the truest sense it’s very noticeable that this PA San Pedro very much does her own thing you know she she’s out there making her own decisions you know it’s a it’s a great comparison to the to her opponent who who is very much playing as a duo with her caddy but it’s noticeable that Paula Francisco hands the club over moves away straight away well even with this she’s going to clip some grass before she gets to where the ball is she’s going to come through the top edge of that grass contact here is the issue [Applause] average The door opens for O’Keefe there’s been no hint that someone can win a hole with a par and they’ve made the largely into the wind front nine look very straightforward almost like it wasn’t windy at all they’ve been that impressive both made three birdies each in these opening eight holes could this be another one for the American on the ninth it’s going to be fast downhill downwind just slide by good attempt though very very tidy first nine for Farah O’Keefe and she’s got nothing for it so far played great three under all square but there is a part to look at here three and four footers have been metronomic this is double that this is 9 ft fantastic goodness me what a putter she is just takes it all in her stride doesn’t she there’s no problems out there at the moment good stuff so that’s nine of 36 holes done and dusted nothing to separate San Pedro and O’Keefe 1887 it’s a long time ago that’s I think that’s a year before Celtic Football Club was instituted i think that’s 1888 well hello they must have lost a bet has to be for charity no one does that for nothing nobody honestly i reckon there’s an ambulance down there behind that bush for when they come out with hypothermia they’ll have to resuscitate them they would not have been doing that yesterday no the the beach is busier today for sure it’s an incred dog walkie yesterday that was about it there’s more of them joining there’s an incredible expanse of sand isn’t it absolutely stunning yeah and then 1887 it’s actually only a few years older than this championship the very first women’s amateur championship 1893 at Royal Lith got we’re on the on the flight path as well straight into Invenesse just just up the coastline it’s actually a very handy service from London if you want to come up to this part of the world Imbaness is glorious you almost feel like you’re on a private jet because it’s there’s no crowds well this is the day weatherwise that they were hoping for granted maybe a couple of degrees warmer but it’s just beautiful Lynx weather bright windy into the wind going out downwind coming back couldn’t be better yeah everything is absolutely set up perfectly we’ve got two players around and about the top 10 of the world rankings they’re both playing at the top of their game they’ve had brilliant weeks both of them as well and sometimes in a situation like this across all sports you can get to a position where a final is set up and you think “This is absolutely perfect we’ve got everything set.” and then the two players or one player just is is well off their game yeah it can happen yeah that’s not the case so far no what you think is the perfect match doesn’t always work out and often things that are gerrymandered you know fixed draws and stuff like that just don’t work so heading for home they couldn’t smell this green yesterday 533 yards but today downwind they can get there and she loves it down the right with a bit of draw on the wind superb that it’s a cracker jack that one so been sort of irons and 3woods not the same club of every tea and she’s going again with her favorite 3-wood i’m not sure if she can get there with two of these we’re going to find out aren’t we yeah that’s come around nicely for her as well so obviously a bit behind O’Keefe well we’re enjoying a fantastic women’s women’s amateur championship final so far long may it continue closer look for you at this 10th hole from above yes what you’ve got to avoid uh the three bunkers down the left hand side 290 yards to reach that second one so if you’re going in the middle of all those you’ve got to be very accurate and then the the mouth of the green if you can reach in two is is quite straightforward split the bunkers and run it up the putting surface it’s a birdie hole today big style but I will be interested to see if San Pedro can get there into after having hit a fairway wood off the T- box i’m not so sure sophie you’re with the longer of the two T-shots i am i’m with the braver of the T-shots in O’Keefe’s slotting driver between three fairway bunkers she’s now left herself 240 yards front edge downwind but the ball is on a side slope and it’s slightly raised so she’s going to have to try and play a fade and bring that right bunker into play both right bunkers pa she’s got 280 to the front edge so I don’t think she will be able to get there but I do think Sara will be but just watch out for that little side slope wanting to take it down the right 240 front sophie’s got the shades on which is a good sign that’s to hide her eyeballs cuz she had whiskey at the halfway house that’s what that is for i’m impressed with the T-shot of the American taking on the bunkers knowing that if she slightly tweaked it either way she can’t get there in two so she’s having a go in amongst the rich heritage of Nan Golf Club it’s hosted the women’s amateur once before and you will recognize the name of the winner i’m sure it was 46 years ago 1979 Morin Medil beat Jane Lock of Australia 2-1 in the final and Morin Medil has been around and about the tournament this week i’m not sure if she’s here today but she’s certainly been here this week she’s absolutely lovely morin I’ve been um out on fairways of various golf courses around the world with her she’s she’s a lot of fun if you wanted a voice to break bad news to you I think I might pick Moren Medil’s voice it it it just makes everything sound so calm and reassuring and nice it’s a nice way of putting it but she doesn’t want to be the bearer of bad news all the all the same oh good here’s Morin some terrible news so San Pedro took 3-wood off the tea and as you said Rob she’s going to struggle to make the green in two which she would have known when she chose 3-wood there’s a bunker down there on the left hand side nasty little pot bunker which is about 80 yards from the front of the green that is something she does want to take on board does not want to go in there is that flying a little bit left that’s fine so Keith absolutely bombed her drive straight down the center of the fairway great line in with her opponent short of the green can she put this one close on the par five she’s only going to fly about 200 and it will release down onto the green and run up the spine so with this strong wind looks like a four in the hand oh club twizzle she likes it and really unfortunate with the soft nature of that bounce it was a beauty that really unfortunate i mean the line of the shot another couple of bounces that could have been sensational she and Brian had worked it out perfectly there they were just let down by the soft lander two lovely swings though so pretty even Stevens in terms of where they are around the green level in terms of the score there’s that horrible bunker on the left hand side that San Pedro avoided that she’s in between the two and it’s down to the short game again don’t forget it’s a 36 hole final so we’re only a quarter of the way through nothing to separate them so far h now I will hand you Oh knew we were watching him i was about to hand over to Bill Audi next to me to tell us that was that was actually before it disappeared the lime crested warbler that’s what that was tony Johnson is is the ornithologist in the group you need to you need to hear from Tony if there’s any wild animals out there birds lizards anything he’s got them all and the Latin genus as well i had the I had the joy of going into a safari park at Sun City in in November with Tony at half past 4 in the morning and that is that is like the Butch Harmon of Golf holding court for 45 minutes is the Tony Johnson of wildlife safaris tony knows everything about every animal and fauna and flora why would you absolutely encyclopedic 4:30 why because you go in you go in the the buses that are organized early because that’s when the big cats are out and the hippos i saw the big five in 45 minutes wow we saw a dolphin here yesterday i’m assured i’m assured it was a dolphin no CGI involved no it was it was it just did the one leap didn’t it we got We caught it that’s a lot choppier than it was yesterday it was like a a mirror especially when they teed off in the morning that’s much more like the Mory Furth menacing might see a couple of wind surfers out there or something later perhaps we’ll catch up with our swimmers so San Pedro really the hole has gone as well as it possibly could could have for her because she knew she was going to be short of the green she’s backed herself with her short club so wedges she probably expected O’Keefe to to take driver off the tea so no concerns here for San Pedro so progress through the match play stages of the tournament this is round number eight for these two this week around this golf course oh that needed to grab it’s a misjudgment a big misjudgment hugely she was in the in the first cut of rough and that could affect how much chew she get on the ball but long way away in three an opening for O’Keefe you fancy much more straightforward chip she’s going with the bread and butter not seen this too often this week from O’Keefe not seen it too often from from many of the players see I don’t understand that when you’re 15 ft behind the ball and you’re making the swing for how far you think it is but you’re not stood where the ball is so this is to win the hole it would be a remarkable putt to knock this one in but realistically just needs to get this one close needs that to hold up bit bit meaty but San Pedro’s a long long way away should really have been a couple of feet closer oh she was she was nearer the the practice swing from where she did make the practice swing this is going to be a slow part for San Pedro back up the green into the wind she’s a cross-hander left below right technically it is a birdie putt oh she gave that a real chance fantastic putt again from the Spaniard her her pace judgment on these putts is is extraordinary that was very good very strong so in for a part which means O’Keefe will ru being a couple of feet on from where she should have been but this is still an opportunity yeah and she would have watched that very closely as it was starting to lose speed this is left half and well struck to go one up no so in what feels like it’s going to be a very very tight match these little moments are crucial really i mean okay that that putt was a mistake as well but it was the previous one that let her down she was unlucky with her second shot she hit a beauty in there and it landed very softly and from where she was she wants to make four she’d be disappointed with that five let one get away there O’Keefe particularly because it was such a rare error from her opponent to be so far away on on the green so we’re into the back nine all to play for Wait [Music] had a little shuffle round in the commentary box [Music] katrina Matthew back with me katrina this is this is some final so far isn’t it it is isn’t it god it’s high quality both players out and three under parid and now on to the back nine downwind [Music] the 11th the first par three on the back nine there’s the RNA’s just swing campaign if you’re interested in getting into golf then as you can see there on the sign go to golf.golf online which was a new one on me but golf.golf will get you there to the just swing campaign and just swinging now farah O’Keefe a little short but on the green she’ll be so frustrated about that previous hole okay yeah a golden opportunity just the three three putts from just off the green at the front very unfortunate very unlucky with her second shot as you were saying oh that is a cracker from the Spaniard just what the doctor ordered bouncing along up to the green with a good birdie opportunity and a chance to move ahead that was a great T- shot wasn’t it Katrina that was very good T- shot we’re being treated to the full range aren’t we you know we’ve seen some great putts some great little chips a brilliant drive on the last from O’Keefe it’s it’s a it’s a real display at the moment it certainly is that was interesting in the last isn’t it um San Pedro maybe she felt she could get there with two threewoods but O’Keefe didn’t quite take advantage but it’s been some high quality golf yeah the run of birdies has has has dried up but it’s been pars no bogeies yet for for either player so it’s uh it’s really really good golf and we’re not surprised by that the two players have played well all week cracking semi-finals yesterday in particular and a short walk of course up to this par three green where O’Keefe will find just how short she was on that T-shot and this this put here Yeah she just launched that kind of short turn up into the air but didn’t quite get the distance and this putt here from from San Pedro is exactly the exactly the distance she’s been completely flawless at so far it has she’s hauled quite a few of them on the way out hasn’t she great confidence you know how the camera forcehortens things i I’m I’m hoping they’re a good couple of hundred yards apart those two boats cuz they don’t look like it from here I’m sure they are just come off the slope of the hill okay a lot more than the breeze welcome back to the 11th green the final of the women’s amateur championship hope you’re enjoying it as much as we are and all square between the Spaniard and the American and it’s the American Barrett O’Keefe here in the red team USA cap who has come up short with her T-shot on this path three so a long birdie attempt yeah back up the hill into the breeze can she judge the distance better than she did on the last hole i’ve just gave it a try i’ve just left that awkward distance but San Pedro’s got a golden opportunity here to go one up and for another two in this match we had O’Keefe Birdie both going out she’s been deadly from this kind of range so far neither player has been more than one up ahead this is to get to that mark and another good puck well done and they’re going right in the middle it’s not like they’re just coming going in round the corners the edges you can see the line there just rolling end over end such a good roll she put on it what an attribute to be able to depend on you know particularly now she’s in a purple patch with her putting to think okay if I get it anywhere within 10 ft let’s say maybe more I’m sinking them you know to to just know that feeling yeah yeah and now we’re on to the 12th of par four that played quite tough yesterday into the wind but whole different ball game today downwind the two bunkers in the middle of the fairway won’t come into play today just 216 over them yeah out with the driver just smash it over these two bunkers [Applause] yeah that’s okay that’s setting up okay by the looks of it lovely to hear the bird song in the background as O’Keefe swipes another one away and another great good T- shot down in similar spot yeah that looked as though it was going to be okay probably inside San Pedro’s now then over the course of the week we’ve learned that Farah O’Keefe is quite the character i think you’ll enjoy this yeah it was pretty cool i won’t lie it’s been a good week so far and I think it’s one of those weeks where you just have to play as hard as you can as long as you can and wherever you if you make it to the Sweet 16 if you make it to the quarterfinals semis if you make it to the final it’s it’s whatever it’s it’s you can’t play the whole field you can only play one match at a time and so obviously I I never come to a tournament without thinking that I can win but I never think about it along the way that’s just how I start my week and at the end of the week if I if I win I win if I don’t it’s you know I I take something away from it and I learn something and I move on played in a couple of match play events and I was lucky enough to come out on top of the Western last summer and it was my first experience of you know trekking along making it to the final and I think every step of the way every time you reach a new benchmark in match play there’s a little more hype a little more expectation it’s very cool that this is televised that’s for sure down this left hand side of the par 41 12th just missed the fairway 133 to that flag now there’s a bunker that’s blocking the pin but it’s really not in play but this ball’s slightly below the feet is going to come out a little bit low and right to left which brings the slope of the green on the right hand side into play downwind don’t feel like it’s as windy as it was on the earlier golf holes but we’re looking like probably a little wedge in there trying to get it to stop but keep it left of the pin thanks again to Sophie so that’s O’Keefe’s ball just on the edge of the fairway there and San Pedro was the one in the rough that Sophie was stood next to very similar angles in yeah slight advantage to a Keith perhaps just with coming out off the fairway especially downwind you know you can just get that little bit more spin on the ball so San Pedro just coming to her ball now and assessing what she needs to do checking Sophie’s yardage there 132 was it just double checking things yeah they just like to look at the book I think just to see where the pin is they’ll have the pin position and they’ll probably have the pin the flag marked on their yardage book so you can see get an idea of just where it is with the slopes and the contours and the and the greenside bunkers with the match so tight you know every shot counts just little mistakes here and there are going to cost you it doesn’t feel like a match that’s going to be won by a big margin today yeah I agree with Sophie just coming out that little bit of rough just have to air just probably a fraction left of the pin here to take those bunkers out of play 143 players started this event on Tuesday down to these last two 30 countries represented oh and that was a fraction unlucky needed maybe a yard more just to carry that little slope and it would have bounced down towards the hole but we’re getting picky now they’re playing so well this I think where Keith has got that luxury of being able to land it definitely up on that green and knows she’s going to get some spin the galleries building all the time as we head back towards the clubhouse nice event to come and watch you got real freedom to get up nice and close to the players and to see the shots see their skill levels we’ve been treated to some excellent golf from both players so far this is O’Keefe then one down needs a good shot here a real green light pin for her with one of her wedges aiming straight at it slightly disappointed with that just misjudging the distance as we saw yesterday she’s so good with those wedges should have hoped to get that one just a little closer well seeen as I’m sat next to the Curtis Cup winning captain here in Katrina Matthew we should talk about the Curtis Cup because seven players from last year’s Curtis Cups started here this week three from your team and four of the Americans and looking ahead to Bair I assume you’re you’re always on the lookout to see how players are doing you know you must be watching San Pedro here and O’Keefe and just weighing up you know what what San Pedro might bring to your team next year if she makes it what what Stop you there sorry Andy but San Pedro the the Curtis Cups GB and II oh of course apologies yeah but you must be looking at Pharaoh Keith for thinking yeah definitely i mean just another strong player is come along yeah another good you know the Americans are going to be strong she was probably a little bit unlucky just to miss out last year on the team uh but I would say she’s pretty much sealing her her spot in the team for next year at Bair but obviously I was having a look at Isa Macdonald O’Brien from England you know had a good run in this championship just 18 had her first year at Arizona State University and obviously Patience Roads Beth Coulter uh both played in the team last time hannah Darling unfortunately I think she might be well not unfortunately but I think she’ll be moving on perhaps to the professional ranks this year but uh yeah it’s exciting it’s exciting to see the the youngsters we’ll have a a kind of new a younger team next year so it’s just it’s exciting to see them come up and and see how they develop and I mean obviously we’ve had the Mimi Roads Sarah Burn Mimi Roads especially get off to a fantastic start in the less winning three times already so San Pedro will put first is this championship and the US amateur the like the two championships you might look at most closely for the pressure of the environment or Yes definitely i think these two Anoa and then the NCA finals obviously as we’ve seen most of these players are over in the US here’s San Pedro for for Birdie and another good putt rightly getting a round of applause again just pace absolutely spot on enjoying her golf and enjoying this experience enjoying this contest both players yeah Keith here she’s bounced back well each time she’s gone one down so can she do it again got a nice line there from San Pedro and just probably a little bit off the left to get back to all square doesn’t look like she’s given it enough concentrating on the lane so much she forgot to hit it pedro remains one up so you probably heard in the background the score announcing that San Pedro still one up after 12 now and they’re still going along at a nice pace six holes to go this morning before another 18 this afternoon she almost told it that time on her practice attempt it’s amazing how often you usually hold them second i mean interesting because we’ve spoken a lot about psychology is there an argument to say actually why why why bother doing that because surely if if you know if you do if you do hold that one it just adds to your frustration doesn’t it yeah and sometimes I think when you do have a another putt like that a little practice you know you’ve perhaps not lined it up like you would have done you would not gone through your usual routine and here’s 13 we kind of back up away from the Murray first here now back up the hill the par 41 13th at 397 yards and they’ve all just mostly we saw Claget take this bunker on the left on but most of the other players are just laying up short of the bunker on the left which is 242 off the tea as San Pedro here is going to do and another one dispatched right down the middle every facet of her game working well so far there you go you got a great view there of that bunker on the left that they’re just laying up short of and leaving the second shot up the hill and a good one out with her trusty long iron quite unusual to see in this day and age in women’s golf usually we’re got the hybrids well they’re going blow forblow toeto- toe here o’keefe and San Pedro it’s the women’s amateur championship final from Nan Golf Club and since this event moved back to a 36 hole final which was in 2021 we’ve had some interesting winning margins luis Duncan of Scotland won in in 2021 9 and eight so that was an early finish jess Baker following year beat Louise Ridquist of Sweden 4-3 kiara Hoarder 7-6 against Annabelle Pancake at Princes that was in 2023 and then last year Melanie Green the American two-up against Lorna Mccclimman of Scotland at Port Manuk so we’ve had a couple of different winning margins nine and eight is a is an incredible margin to win by over 36 holes doesn’t look like we’re going to get anything like that this is going to be close all the way and Sophie is walking up the fairway with them the sun is shining and the wind seems to have gone down here on the par four uphill we’re with Paula Martin San Pedro’s golf ball it’s really the only uphill par4 you have here at Nerm playing away from the first so we’ve got a right to left wind but you can’t feel it down here ball above her feet so it’s going to want to climb on her 182 yds to the flag it plays 10 yards up the hill front pin we can use the back stop beyond it so you can take it up to the right and maybe have it roll down but the lie is good however this is going to go high because of that so an uphill second shot playing around 200 yards yeah the elevation there is quite something isn’t it as you said Katrina you can really see it yeah and as Sophie said she’s going to want to air long you don’t want to come up short cuz it’s got the could trickle all the way back down that hill and with the back stop but 200 yards she’s left herself a long way in beautiful scene as we look back down the 13th hole here at Nan Golf Club final of the women’s amateur championship and look at the scoring so far what a high standard we’ve witnessed it’s been absolutely brilliant golf it has not one bogey between the two of them and on a challen challenging day i mean there’s a there’s a wind out there and this is a rare example of the players now having to hit uphill and they’re hitting into a green that faces slopes back down towards them yeah it’s really about the elevation on the golf course this hole the par 3 413 back up and then you play the the long par 314 back down the hill this is San Pedro wearing the uh red of Spain and from 200 yds i think this is good oh and coming off the UPS slope as well just taking making sure she’s taking enough club going with the hybrid try and use that slope behind just got to be careful off that UPS slope with the hybrid could be very easy to tug it to the left oh that is so unlucky so so unlucky i’m not sure some of the spectators realize that the ball has dribbled all the way back down but she can see the funny side of it which is actually really nice to see in amongst the the pressure of this championship but uh I think she hit a good shot there maybe just fooled by the little ups slope she was in on just took a little bit of distance off the club but Farah just that little bit closer even that just 10 20 yards makes a lot of difference coming in maybe with a five iron here and a classic match play after seeing San Pedro come up short I think I’d be taking half a club club more making sure I get up there watching it slightly anxiously from down on the fairway it has gone left because of that well uphill lie but it’s it’s stayed there that’s the important thing yeah good shot she’s got it on the right level up on the green just what she had to do she was just checking there is it on the green it certainly is and the short sleeves now the wind must be dropping getting warmer o’keefe made the cut at the US Women’s Open just a couple of weeks ago finished in a tie for 36th place she was just two shots behind Lotty W the low amateur now here we go let’s have a little look at a a stat for you look at that rob was very keen to point out that England did have the most winners yeah so this is uh this is winners by nationality so England leading the way with 55 usa in there with 11 spain with five and all five of those Spanish winners came between 2001 and 2009 it was an incredible run the last yeah they’ve got another really great cluster of Spanish amateurs coming up i had was having a we look and they’ve got six players in the Wagger top 50 so they have got a great bunch of players coming through azahara Muno of Spain was the last Spanish winner 16 years ago we can take another look at the beach and there are more brave souls heading into the water by the looks of it plenty of dog walkers as well it’s uh really really wonderful i was having a chuckle Andy when you and Rob were astonished at the people going in the sea we’re we’re a hardy bunch up here in Scotland are you a sea swimmer Katrina no i thought you I thought that was leading up to you telling me that you go in you know three times a week or something i have done the Looney Duke which is New Year’s Day running in the sea okay okay you So you got a special reason to special reason to go in and this is a tricky little chip now for San Pedro you just see that slope she’s got to come up the pins just seven on but I think she’s probably going to have to land this get it up onto the green and you can just see there from the picture often it’s difficult to tell on TV isn’t it but just look at where the spectators are below San Pedro and where the spectators are ahead of her it’s it’s really steep this yeah you get a really nice little view here you can really see the slope she’s got to walk up you can see her walking up there to the green she does have seven yards of green to work with but I think she’s got to fly it all the way up there probably 3 four yards on the green coming off the UPS slope get a little bit of height should stop quite quickly so this is a high tariff shot yeah probably just grip down her 60° just make sure she keeps that club face open on the way through she played that nicely that’s nearly a gimme for the way she’s been putting today when it came off the club face I was slightly worried she hadn’t gi given it enough but uh her judgment has been brilliant all day and as you say the way she’s been putting she’ll knock that one in no problem so Keith faced with a long putt across the green but a two-tier green here Andy and she’s on the right level which is great it was a really quality another quality iron shot she hit in here and on the right side she’s got it back up the hill she can have a run at it still conditions in this part of the course there we get a good line there it’s going to come off left to right off that slope on the left hand side probably just to the left of San Pedro’s marker oh and she didn’t hit it she was trying to go left of that marker just never quite got it on the right line or with the right speed but we can just see from that how tricky a putt here san Pedro’s got just a left to right swinger now O’Keefe’s putt hasn’t been conceded by San Pedro she’s been deadly from this sort of distance very good you see that she just hit that in with pace to keep it on the line and now she conceds which was the right thing to do so on we go paula Martin San Pedro remains one up we are moving on to the 14th hole and Sophie Walker can tell us more the 14th hole par three down the hill this time it plays 10 yards downhill 190 yards to this front right pin and a few bunkers that you must avoid so club up take it down the left hand side now it’s a pin position that the players know well pa yesterday made the most glorious two on this hole long left into that small valley is what they’ll be playing the wind is from left to right yesterday was quite strong back into their faces now it’s warmed up here the ball is going further and the wind has slightly dropped but don’t be short on 14 that is where all the trouble is especially with this false front thank you Sophie really useful description of what lies ahead of these two so high up on the 14th T beautiful viewpoint isn’t it from uh from up there you’ll be looking back towards the water not so pretty when you look back up here cuz it’s a challenging T-shot it is longest par three on the golf course plays maybe just 9 yards downhill and you can see that pin there sophie said just got to clear these front right bunkers definite no go would you be aiming for that little cluster of trees almost uh I think that’s a perfect line middle of the green on those trees sophie said the wind’s just a little bit left to right if it pushes it towards the flag all well and good that was straight at those trees I think as it came off the club bit short she just didn’t watch Sophie’s piece did she no she didn’t but she she would have known that was what she had to avoid and but that’s not too bad she’s got up the slope a little bit i think she’ll have the putter on that one nip and tuck and this is one of those situations in match play where O’Keefe now needs to capitalize she hits a lot of good long irons already see if she can hit another one here oh one another what a great shot look at the difference let’s get hopefully sit there oh he’s come to a halt my goodness mate very good that pin’s just nine on so good chance go and mark that one quickly cracking final at the Women’s Amateur Championship plenty more to come it is worth saying again reminding you that it’s a 36 hole final so long way to go yet but it’s been really good golf and nice to see big galleries this afternoon i mean obviously the weather really helps but these two players and this championship deserves plenty of spectators to witness this it does you’re looking at the you know the the top women golfers amateur golfers in the world they’re all flocking love to play this event come to the great golf courses the great links courses in Great Britain and Ireland i think that’s the the overseas players they just love coming to play the courses that it’s being taken to i mean next year it’s at Murfield the honorable company of Edinburgh golfers i’m sure that’ll get a stellar field did you see that at the Curtis Cup last year that that the American players in particular were thrilled to be playing Sunningale you know which is such a famous name well I think when you’re you know you’ve not perhaps grown up playing in these courses but you’ve watched them you’ve watched events over the years you know the AIG Women’s British Open or the Open um and you’ve watched you’ve watched and you’ve seen the courses and to come and play a course that you’ve seen on television is a great thrill so the wind still pretty breezy over there on the coastline by the the fourth green as you can see yeah looking over to the black aisle there which isn’t actually an island it’s a peninsula but the players in the galleries have made it down to the 14th green welcome back on Sky Sports Golf to the Women’s Amateur Championship good time to mention that the AIG Women’s Open is not far away round the corner at Royal or around the corner in terms of dates not around the corner in terms of location in Royal Pool in Wales but uh 3rd of August is the final day of that women’s open as San Pedro lines up this second shot chip go on a tidy little trip she played that one very quickly i thought she might have perhaps got the O’Keefe’s ball marked but it makes your chipping everything so much easier when you’ve obviously got the confidence she does at the moment with these kind of five six footers just going back to the women’s open tickets still available for that at Royal Pool in Wales set to be the biggest women’s sporting event that Wales has ever hosted should be a fantastic week yeah and definitely if anyone’s in that neighborhood come and watch the likes of Nelly Carta Lydia Co you know some fantastic uh golfers there to come and watch and learn from charlie Hull would be the great British hope could there be majors in these two in years to come that’s for another day for now O’Keefe who’s just managed to hold on to the edge of the green here with putter in hand it is to win the hole it’s actually quite a long way short from where she was yeah that was a a a poor putt there it’s going to be quite closest to who’s to go first o’keefe born and raised in Austin Texas parents Michael and Marlene her dad actually Mike was a professional tennis player of some repute just working out aren’t they who’s uh who’s first to put here and it looks like it will be the Spaniard this is classic match play isn’t it Andy could be could it be first in wins well the way the way San Pedro’s been putting you can almost guarantee exactly you can almost guarantee she’s going to knock this one home i think in this situation I would always be wanting to put first that cutter is so hot that was never really in doubt now Keith’s just grown by a couple of feet I think so she’ll be kind of annoyed at for herself at her first putt see back of the hole yeah that was good that was resilient from O’Keefe who in fairness has been putting very well herself but uh San Pedro just with the edge in that department what would what would that be about the referee just picking up on something there not sure i’m not sure anyway we roll on to the 15th hole all seems well but I wonder I I wonder Katrina when all said and done at the end of today you know long way to go of course but if San Pedro were to take this title it feels like it would be her putting that would have taken her to to the victory because it’s just been so relentlessly good yeah if they both keep up this level of play it is going to be just who can hold that extra one two putts from the other one so yep I think it could all come down to the putting so I’m walking D back to the 15th TE short par4 303 yds back down towards the water we saw Tilly Claget drive this one yesterday there’s just three bunkers lurking down there you need to avoid you wouldn’t want to be in them because they’re good kind of 50 yards short of the green and you can’t really see them which is difficult because you can’t see them from the tea with all the humps and hollows yeah very different very different today nice view of the fairways they’ve got a mixture here of kind of flattish looking fairways and the the sort of hump sphere that you see yeah the humps and hollows which I think is what can drive you crazy on links golf because you can hit a good shot and it can kick off in all sorts of different directions we talked about rules and George’s which is going to be used for the men’s yeah I’ve never played there but Oh it’s brilliant but it’s very much like that you know you can hit one right down the middle and it ends up in the rough you think well that’s unfair but it’s kind of the nature of it it’s okay beautiful view today look at that it is isn’t it so you’ve just got you’ve got two bunkers down the right and one on the left which is 260 to carry but I think the wind today is helping a little bit out the left but San Pedro sticking to her game plan going with the three-wood she’s wearing out of fairway woods yeah off the tea boxes watching a little anxiously it’s right it’s going to be interesting dicing with that bunk one of those bunkers down the right that drives you mad you take the 3-wood to kind of play take play safe went straight after iron iron proe had a couple of those with the arm off but they’ve ended up okay kind of similar position first kind of real couple of mistakes we’ve maybe seen yeah a couple of sloppy ones so very much a left to right breeze here today and you can see those three bunkers they were all trying to avoid i think they’re trapped in that ridge that sort of ups slope they’re both here about 20 short that first bunker yeah I think they might both be okay but you can see why cuz if you can’t carry those bunkers you can’t reach the green there’s really no point in going for it the pin today is just 10 yards on and six from the right hand side so not the best angle coming in from the right no with the uncertainty of the contact from the rough as well no problem either player reaching the green well Sophie’s taking a close look at where they’ve all finished where you don’t want to be the first the first mistake we’ve really seen from the Spanish player she has found this bunker down the right hand side paula Martin San Pedro got 64 yards to the pin quite a significant ups slope lots of humps and bumps to negotiate as well well it’s that worst shot in golf isn’t it 60 yards is it lob wedge is it gap wedge all about the strike now thankfully the rain has made this sand a lot more compact but it’s an unforced error back in the trees on this T-shot I don’t think they could feel that left to right wind trouble for Paula a layup short of the bunker for Sara so she has got the advantage but both of them slightly out of position more so with PA strange one to hit the 3-wood and bring the bunker into play when you were laying up madness a madness complete madness if if that’s her ball yeah if you’re going to lay up lay up yeah it’s a classic classic isn’t it lay up you’re going to lay up you’re better off being having 10 yards further in of course but I mean she’s only got 60 yards as Sophie said i mean she’ll still be able to get the green even out the bunker yeah it won’t be distance that’s the issue for her it’ll be contact yeah and I think O’Keefe is further right than she is off the tea so she’s okay and I do think hitting the iron she completely took that bunker out of play well this is left to right 80 yards yeah and this was the turning point in her match yesterday afternoon she had a very good wedge in and made birdie see if she can do the same good she knew she knew didn’t she maybe just didn’t quite get the contact she wanted it’s amazing how a player can know within three yards if that’s three yards further hit she’s not even talking to it you can just you feel it in your hands can’t you you can tell if it’s so many shots from that distance you can just feel it well we saw Pa play some amazing bunker shots yesterday but that was around the greens this is a very different skill yeah I do think though with the the rain they’ve had you can see that bunker so we said a bit more compact does make this a lot easier but it’s as you said it’s all in the contact she can just clip it off nicely should probably have to throw this past the hole though to do generate a lot of spin out the bunker she can’t see it anyway he’s asking for it to get down [Applause] difficult if you’ve not got a full shot out sometimes out the buck when you’re trying to hit that kind of in betweeny distance i I think she’ll take that yeah she made sure she got the ball first baka baka she was shouting your Spanish is better than mine well it’s I’d say it’s beginner level but yeah you’re probably right you should have taken on the green yeah especially as this is quite awkward for O’Keefe the next one it’s spun back off the down slope back off the green she’s probably going to put this I would have thought yeah we saw a putt one from the just off the green up the slope on 10 longer to be fair she had there but she didn’t make the best of jobs of it that that’s a good view of what she’s got it’s quite it’s quite a climb up to where the hole is and quite a lot of fairway to putt through four could win this crazy isn’t it with the shortest the shortest par four certainly not a guaranteed two from the back of the green either there you can see that slope she’s got to put along and then down the slope and then back up again to the hole one of the few times she’s called in PA to help her perhaps a little bit she’s not really had many long putts though she has been putting from places you can you can make birdies from most of the time she would accept just laying this one a foot from the hole from here oh definitely so downhill wind off the right there it is down the slope back up very good speeds that was a very good cut does that get the Okay yes it does we at least O’Keefe knows what she’s got to do now no doubt in her mind she would like to do just the same kind of nestle it up there within a couple of feet yeah i mean listen she could roll it in from here but I think two putts from this awkward spot would be fine thing is when you’ve got a chunk of fairway to putt across how hard do you hit it from this angle it looks like she’s a foot off the green but we know she isn’t and it is as you said difficult to judge the pace with all that fairway to putt over up the slope not wanting to leave it short after her last putt she didn’t even have to look at her opponent there cuz there was no point hoping for anything so let’s see if she can do what San Pedro’s been doing the whole match holding these five sixfooters back for the half got a good look at the line though as it went past the hole not wasting any time good two from down there martin San Pedro remains one up knuckles and another little chat I know my wedges go five yards shorter here just I think with the the colder temperature for anyone who’s played golf abroad somewhere where it’s warm you suddenly gain five 10 yards they try playing golf in winter in Scotland i feel like I’m hitting at about 100 yards it’s just it’s just pure survival it’s not cold golf anymore i always loved it when I played on tour i’d play practice over the winter here and then we’d go to Arizona to start the tour and suddenly I’m hitting it like 50 yards further lovely with one layer of clothing on Just caught that little thicker rough on the left hand side there it’ll be interesting to see what the lies like 16 the par4 no fairway bunkers to worry about on this hole straight downwind [Applause] and a good shot you can see it’s scampering down oh is that that same bird lovely drive hopefully it won’t pick it up no it’s a good point very good point they can do that two fours and a five to finish the last three holes here n I wonder do you look at this like there’s 21 holes left in this match or do you look at it right now there’s three holes from the clubhouse how do you view it i think you have to view it as 21 holes to go but three holes to go i think San Pedro’s thinking can I get another win can I get to two up maybe and obviously O’Keefe’s going to be thinking can I get back to square going into lunch well if you’re watching this and it’s inspiring you to give golf a go the RNA’s JustW campaign can help you join the 66 million people who are already playing golf around the world just swing visit golf.golf to find out more just swing visit golf.golf to get started why not give golf a go just swing swing wild swing weird swing wonky whoever however wherever it doesn’t matter just head over to golf.golf to start playing find out where you can learn to play at golf.golf [Music] sophie how’s the lie down the left hand side okay it’s sat up very nicely down this left hand side of the 16th for Paulo S Paulo Martin San Pedro she can get into the back of the ball the kind of thicker layer of of grass there she’s just not going to get involved with that so that’s brilliant news for her it’s downwind from her right shoulder pins on the left anything tweaked left will kick off and miss this green down the left hand side so she’s got 128 yards she wants to take it 10 yards to the right of the flag but a lucky break as she can get into the back of the ball this one will fly out nicely i think it’ll fly out of there lurching that looked like a horrendous fly lie to me yeah be interesting to see if she can read that lie maybe go with a club less yeah it’s not going to have any spin on it no you’re just looking at the front yardage there i think land it there and let it not going to be coming with any spin just let it then run down the green to the pin that’s 28 yds on but she was pretty lucky as Sophie said when you see that grass looking there just it could have been in a pretty thick patch better than it could have been but of course when the camera looks out to the fur you don’t see the gor but when you’re on the tea some of these holes have got like one side is completely taken out of play cuz it’s a lost ball you can’t play it might as well be out of bounds the Yeah there we can see it now what you’re talking about Rob all the gor down the right hand side so the miss is this side that’s why this hole doesn’t it doesn’t really need fairway bunkers because it’s got the gor there as the hazard and then it’s makes it a trickier shot into the green coming from the left hand side see that flag flapping maybe now they’re getting back down towards the first that’s getting more of the brunt of the breeze on the pin line i don’t think she can hold the green as she flies it directly no I think she’s got to go between these bunkers for the middle of the green take kind of middle back of the green so that caught the club as she tugged that one just didn’t get great contact on that at all caught one of those front bunkers a little opening for O’Keefe though we did see San Pedro hit a couple of very good bunker shots from around the green yesterday she’s not bunkered I don’t think san Pedro she’s in a Oh you don’t you think she’s just missed yeah I think she’s in kind of ridge well we’ll see it’s pitching it it will be pitching on a little down slope okay okay just got to be on that down and a little bit further right at the bigger part i think San Pedro might be able to put Yeah the wind’s going to drift me that way as well again we’ll be flying on a flat part we can eas Yeah we’ll see i think I think she’s missed the sand again even from here on on the pin line this will do well she lands it on the putting surface to stay short at the hole yeah help i heard her caddy trying to recommend to keep it a bit right of the flag stick good shot very good shot done very well done very well very good shot amazing how far down the grip she goes sometimes that was I mean it’s like a junior club with the length of it she was playing it with right forefinger almost on the steel it’s as if perhaps she prefers her kind of gap wedge rather than hitting her 60 you know for these fuller shots definitely a feeling that the crowd is swelling definitely the ropes are out now we didn’t see the ropes earlier the sleepy town of Nan has woken up she’s moving the rake oh Beanie you’re correct i thought she got past that on the left hand side well the two bunker shots she played yesterday oh were top class and she’s got a lot of green to work with here i expect her just to to play this one out and downwind a lot of green she’ll kind of not not a chunking run but one where it’s just going to land maybe halfway and then run up to the hole would be how I see it we will see how San Pedro pictures it how does it look to you Sophie she’s on the ups slope but this green cuts around to the left so it’s 26 yds pin minimum carry is 20 we’ve done it again going to start calling a Sevy honestly is that good you said it yesterday the Spanish all seem very South Africans and the Spaniards out the sand are over the years amazing ernie Gary I just pick a Spaniard any old Spaniard sevie or Lear oh that was beautiful she’s still continuing to make O’Keefe have the feeling that she’s going to have to birdie hold to get one back definitely but they’ve not had a bogey amongst them today or between them just move out just move down the hill we’ve been given a treat to this morning so far but I think Keith will definitely be wanting to get that one back get all square at minimum going in for lunch the golden opportunity here so this to square the match goods oh very good what a shame that the bunker shot stood for nothing might as well have fatted it and left it in the bunker but that’s all you can do is put the put the pressure on your opponent lovely holding speed yeah it just looked good from halfway yeah this was special again yeah cuz it wasn’t the easiest of stances was it no she she she carried it further she gets a lot of She gets quite close to the ball to get that much purchase and to It’s brave it’s not the chicken’s bunker shot that I was describing the chicken’s bunker shot well all square potentially another 20 holes of this plus extra time so now on to the 17th again can wind going to be helping 357 yds so again the two couple of furry bunkers that’ll be in play one 256 on the left and 239 which be interesting to see potentially just maybe an iron off the tea 3-wood off the tea i would imagine a Keith will go with her long iron she’s used that famously over these last couple of days there’s really no benefit in trying to take those two bunkers on they’re just being a short hole there you go you get a lovely view of them there you can see the the one on the right hand side and the two on that left hand side of the fairway so there’s a ditch at 300 as well if you if it really got a gallop on down that fairway start bunker all day straight down wind here okay so that dark bunker is good yeah she’s got her iron out just aim it on that left hand far bunker no fear of reaching it beautifully framed doesn’t it with the trees just looking down going to say exactly the same thing look at the tea it’s beautiful just brush the top don’t take a divot upset the green keepers lovely very good ideal perfect she got close to that left hand bunker though didn’t she distance-wise well that’s the problem with Link’s courses and laying up how far is it going to bounce and run it’s that is guess work it’s a three-wood for San Pedra she maybe just has to watch that left hand bunker but no a good shot maybe that was actually just a five which she hit small head was it yep smaller head so two excellent T-shots from two excellent players at the peak of their powers 18’s going to be very reachable the par five downwind they should be able to clear all the bunkers yeah great birdie chance for both of them but the members will be itching to get out on their golf course well I bet they will yeah and play see if they can emulate some of the play we’ve seen today or over the whole week yeah because there’s always extra work that goes into prepare for a championship like this so the members don’t quite play at this level most of the time so yeah they will be keen to get out there and potentially quite often will keep the TE’s and the pins the same for the the day after so that they can all have a a crack at it here we go a great look look at that that tea all the way down through the trees you can see those three bunkers that they’ve just laid up off the far two both in prime position just short of those two bunkers one on the right and one on the left leaving just a short shot maybe just around a hundred yards into that pin which is 20 yards on and five from the left bunk front bunkers won’t won’t come into play today now once you find the fairway that’s the key thing the rest of it’s fairly straightforward yeah should be a good birdie chance here especially downwind coming in with a short club pa Francisco Caddy just taking a little shortcut there i don’t think she made it all the way back to that 17th T that’s good foromes play what perhaps do you think slight advantage to San Pedro hitting in first oh I if she can hit a good one yeah you want to go first cuz you can affect you can’t affect the second player if you’re going second but if you’re going first you can absolutely make the other player think about it a bit more or take more risk on yeah if San Pedro can put one in here to I don’t know 10 feet forces O’Keefe to maybe just go at it a little bit more it’s only a wedge down breeze anything pitching over that bunker at the front should kick forward down to where the hole is just got to be careful they don’t just tug it a little left or it’ll kick off the green it’s trying to get closer inching closer yeah very nearly perfect but from what we’ve seen of her Keith I would expect her to get this inside that one yeah this is her game this is her game and she has a lot of variety in how far she hits the wedges with how long she holds the club yeah that’s a a very easy way to take or take a little bit of distance off a club is just to grip down a little bit which looks exactly what she’s doing here it’s good oh that’s very good very good slightly unlucky it didn’t get a little bit more check but very good shot it’s very difficult to see either of these two players getting away you know three four up it’s hard to see it they’ve been locked together pretty much lock step for this entire 18 holes yeah no holes been given to the other player each player’s won whatever hole they’ve whichever holes they’ve won they’ve won with birdies choosing to go stars and stripes fluttering in the wind have we seen a Spanish flag today i saw one round the clubhouse yes very good i think they’ve got one from every country around the clubhouse again squ couldn’t we going around them well you could if we stay on air through lunch you could do that she’s been one up clawed back to level one up clawed back to level never been down San Pedro but just can’t get to that two up every time she gets to one it’s as if it’s just about the next hole a couple of the times that O’Keefe’s got it back a nice little vantage point for those spectators oh that must be a little island hopper yeah maybe a little Logan air coming in from one of the islands oh see him little prop jet yeah i’m almost slightly nervous about getting on those ones the little ones you do feel the bumps more so San Pedro for birdie she loves just bringing her ponytail round to the front do you know I was thinking about that watching some of the competitors this week with the ponytails often dangling down in your peripheral vision you’ve never had that problem no not now it’s getting there oh good try and still staying bold which I like giving them a go but another chance now for Keith to get to one up her first lead she’s waited a long time for this point in the match to get ahead she’s proven herself to be a very good match player and I would have said the opposite yesterday the way she finished in the quarterfinals yeah but then the semi she really Yeah turned it around a little bit of help from her opponent but a lot of it from her good golf well this for yet another birdie this time to lead in the match [Applause] good try she likes to have a couple of return putts when she misses one she does she’s about the only player I’ve seen having it obviously it’s allowed in the rules but taking a little practice so they’re both four under through 17 holes with a very birdable 18th hole to play yeah I I mean I’m suspecting a half in birdie fours at the last so two five under rounds that’s good golf just under the circumstances the final it’s breezy what’s at stake what’s at stake especially if you’re staying amateur through next season yeah chance to play in four majors and gain that what experience you can gain going and and playing in them the carry down the last hole if you can fly at 250 you carry everything i’m not sure we’ll interesting to see what San Pedro does here because 250 on the fly might be right on the Yeah even down windision for her yeah one advantage the winds maybe slightly helping out the right which she could you know fire it down those right bunkers and just with a little draw she’s got the driver in her hand she’s made the long walk i think at this stage in the game you’ve still got 18 holes to go you’ve got to you’ve got to give it a go give it a go so you just see there the two bunkers down the right hand side 250 carry over that one we just see and to keep the ball in the fairway they need to take on that those right bunkers that’s perfect yeah that’s absolutely fine down there barely any rough at all sitting up like a coconut that’s ideal over to you now Paula it’s a much shorter carry over that left hand bunker that’s not a problem even for for PA if she pushes it and it doesn’t turn on the wind yeah I mean the bailout is that left hand side take the left rough [Applause] looks like it’s turning into the middle of the fairway and that’s superb very good and talking to her coach Anne Walker at Stanford she identified distance as of a potential weakness she had and she’s worked extremely hard over the winter in the gym to try and put on a bit more distance well Sophie’s out and about and I think talking to some of the people of Nan so the crowd this week at N has been sensational now the weather has certainly brought out a few more people we’ve got Leslie Kian and Anakah what a name for a young girl that’s coming to watch the golf now Leslie tell me what brings you here today um our daughter’s carrying the scoreboard and is one of the champions from Nan and Kian he was green keeping this week he’s a green keeper at Algen so we just love N and we’re just living forest so it’s lovely to come and watch a good golfers playing um in a lovely day kian you’ve been up early all this week so thank you for coming out and uh who is Zanica is your little girl oh great it must be amazing to show her you know these exceptional women golfers yeah yeah it’s great to have um them so close to home and stuff like that and been able to watch them they’ve been really good we watched a few games this week so good to take her along and Anaka would you like to play golf one day oh she’s not thinking about it they all wanted to say yes maybe today it will inspire her but the golf has just been amazing hasn’t it yeah it’s very good very close match looking forward to the afternoon i think it’ll be really good yeah well it’s set up nicely the crowd are into it and we just can’t wait to watch to see who wins this match we’ve got a few hours to go yet because they’re so finely balanced these two i don’t think we’re going to finish with eight holes left of the second 18 that’s not going to happen no I don’t think we’re going to have a nine and eight like Louise Duncan at Westcobride well played all of those because they have got this golf course in absolutely supreme condition they should be very proud it is it’s looking in fantastic shape and I wonder if they’ve brought in some green keepers quite often the clubs will bring in ones from local courses you know just to help them for the week well the open in Port Rush when they get there they’ll be coming in from all sorts of places yeah they need men on the ground to get just to get it in in the condition yeah get all the prep done in the mornings i played at Port Rush last week spectacular first time there so good it’s going to be an amazing open yeah my first time was a couple of couple of weeks ago i only got to play one hole though played the 13th par three i think it’s the 13th down the hill 13 or 14 where was the wind when you played it kind of into out the right ah the other way okay but a huge amount of elevation change that I unusual for a Lynx golf course there is a bit of surpris so here we go a slight advantage to San Pedro but both should be able to reach the green yeah I think she got about another 10 yards of travel because she stayed on the fairway for its entirety both players can reach no problem pin’s right in the back again like yesterday 31 on but um seven from the left today with downwind i think she’d probably just want to try and land this on the green it’s a little ups slope to the green so probably land it on the green and then let it run down it’s going to run out okay you think she’s going to fly this on the green i think just to the front yeah pin’s 31 yds on so to get it back there I think if it comes out of here you know lurching out of here it’s going to gallop in the mouth of the green up the putting surface we’ll see i’ll be amazed if she pitches it on going to find out tough to know whether that landed on or just maybe just short yeah just short and a little unfortunate again again a soft bounce yeah I think they’re they’re thinking really well they’re executing the shots really well yeah it’s a couple of times she’s hit really good long irons and they’ve just taken very soft bounces it’s the five San Pedro just exactly the same i think to get back to that pin you had to land it on the green just over there’s a little kind of ups slope just at the very front that they’ve both hit into it’s funny because the surrounds of the greens are a lot softer than the fairways we’ve seen the T-shots come down and get some skate on board but the approaches to the par fives downwind have landed and pretty much gone nowhere maybe just that heavy rain Sophie said they had overnight has softened it up just a little bit but it looks so flat that in the camera angle yeah it’s a lot more up to that second shot than you may think you’d back them both to make birdies here from there definitely look at that scoring four under four under i think the thing that jumps out to me is no bogeies yeah from either player uh incredible and it would be I think it’d be fitting if they both went into the clubhouse the way they’ve played all square all square five under two birdies two two pot birdies you know what golf’s like you come out on a different day and you’re a different person you could be hacking it the next day you come out you find something and you’re hitting it like you want to striping it even though they’ve got to the final there was no guarantee they were both going to play well no cuz sometimes you know in all sports you get the final can sometimes be the worst the worst match the worst game just sometime I think it’s just the the nerves you’re so close you’re within touching distance you’ve got maybe half a hand on the trophy i love the way the 18th green is just so close to the clubhouse and there we go we can get a little look at the flags i’m not sure what that blue and yellow one with the little kind of trident on yeah that’s unusual i don’t know that one i’m glad you spotted it well there’s a Spanish one i do i spotted the Spanish one in fact that’s probably about the only one I actually don’t know what it is it’s the first one I saw good with all those now could that be one of the Caribbean islands where maybe one of the competitors odd played in the US women’s open was playing this week katrina Matthew Google now someone’s actually just texted me oh is that right is that right barbados oh Barbados well done so you were spot on caribbean island pretty much you learn something every day this is a long long eagle putt san Pedro little uphill to start with a hair from the right maybe not much yeah not much that’s looking very good excellent yeah great didn’t do a lot it’s pretty straight wouldn’t it not conceded that’s the right thing to do you know you got a bit of atmosphere around the clubhouse it’s the 18th green there’s a bit of something there i’ll have a look at it here’s a Keith in a very similar line I fancy you know this might she’s going to give this a good might just sneak in this one very early call from me massive call massive call she’s 40 ft away huge call and another good part does I think they could both go good here just what I was going to say and let’s get in go in for some lunch let’s see how mentally strict she is tough i think they might be putting yeah love it no one wants to give an inch san Pedro’s looked as solid as you could do from these sort of distances it barely bats an eyelid at them and they go in with some pace yeah half a look and she’s very sure what she’s doing she saw it come by the hole it’s just middle of the putter face and well struck yes very good again right in the middle nearly on i thought she was going to give that there it is quite short but you know you made me hold mine i’ll see it i’ll have a look two birdies both players five under par the first 18 impressive yeah yeah under the circumstances i mean five under is a great round but under these circumstances even better yeah really really good that was the top half of the final couldn’t have wished for more standard wise it was excellent we could not and look at And a stiff breeze see that Barbados flag fluttering there in the in the breeze you mean that blue one with the trident in the middle barbados yeah that’s it yeah I must say really looking forward to the afternoon round if we see more of this they have and all credit to them both set this up for something to go out there and watch if you’re spectators absolutely you come here and it’s someone’s five up six up it’s nah you can’t call it isn’t it great that the women’s amateur championship got the final it wanted it is isn’t it we’ve got the weather we got the sunshine we’ve got the seab breeze we’ve got everything everything great golf course so they got they got quite a lunch break now I think oh my goodness that’s quite the little dandelion crown she’s been given indeed they’re having fun this American team yeah well going back to your point during the week where they’ve made it more team they’ve made the team actually a thing it’s got it’s got writing it’s got icons unfortunately that might not be quite so good for us in this Curtis Cup and Soling i can see you rethinking your illthoughtout plans is this half one this afternoon but you know that’s great they’re having fun they’re young they’re young girls they should be this is amateur golf you should be having fun if you can’t enjoy this you know they’re out they’re away from home they’re in Scotland out of their normal comfort zone and they’re having a ball yep doing what they love so it’s lunch and then I would think with the time that they’ve got come out rewarm up go through the whole routine again it’s not a quick sandwich and back around there’s a break now yeah yeah they do have a break and I think they will want to hit hit a few shots again just loosen off after sitting and eating few putts and then off we go again for an afternoon round you can tell what the uh American team have been doing while they’ve been watching they’ve been creative they’ve been very creative and that’s Tiffany Joe in the White Hat is their kind of team captain coach played on tour with her in the LPJ very good player in her own right a very keen surfer lives in California yeah but I don’t think she looked out at the first there she won’t get any surf waves there maybe just say not quite big enough waves there there’s no surfing out there let’s have a look back at what was an excellent 18 holes from both players yeah birdie there from San Pedro this is a Kraken T shot the fourth for O’Keefe trying to answer back in style which she did look at this yeah and straight back after losing the third in there with a birdie at the fourth to get back that was a lovely two then at the next hole yeah it was a ding-dong battle another birdie for San Pedro at the fifth to go back to one up this at the next par three the sixth another two and these holes were all playing into the wind that’s the point the hard nine yeah just straight she’s hold she’s not missed one of them no she’s looked from three four five six feet fantastic puring them in too love this yeah this was a great shot as you say just clipped it very close to the ball to get that spin it didn’t matter though because O’Keefe had this for the birdie and did what we’ve seen all day another birdie and they both birdied 18 to shoot five under par and put on an exhibition for the people of Nen and golf fans around the world the perfect half to a women’s amateur championship final that’s the tail of the tape five birdies each no mistakes 13 pars who’s your feeling for very difficult who’s going to be the first one to blink really who’s going to be the first to make a mistake i I think it’s honestly for me who likes doing the early calls it’s It’s too early for me to call okay I’m gonna make a call i’m going to go Farah O’Keefe because of how she managed to turn it around yesterday okay i thought the difference in her finish in the quarters and the semis was pulls apart i was super impressed with that well I’ll maybe go for San Pedro i think just the way she’s been putting holding out those five six footers not that keeps me putting badly but I just give the edge a little bit to San Pedro in the greens which might just make the difference this afternoon does it help them the fact they’ve now played the course with what is normally the wind into your face going out downwind coming back does that help them this afternoon cuz yesterday was a very strange wind i think it helps them this afternoon they’ve got more idea um they’ve got more idea how the how the ball’s going to react perhaps into the wind they play the same pins this afternoon so any little maybe mistake or wrong club they had this morning you know they might just be able to correct this afternoon if you were the coach of either player and you had got your player to the the second 18 in the final what advice would you give them in the break i think just stay patient go out there do more of the same just keep trying to hit fairways hit greens give yourselves birdie putts i mean I know it sounds so easy and so simple but it’s just you don’t want to say to someone try and not make a mistake you want to kind of promote the positive so it’s going out there and just trying to give yourself as many birdie chances as you can and do you come out after the lunch break reeed up as if you’re starting again or do you come out with the notion that you’re continuing what you did an hour and a half ago is it a complete fresh restart i don’t think so i think you because you’re you’re going to know what you did this morning and you’re going to know what your opponent did this morning you’ll you’ll look back on shots you’ve hit you’ll learn from shots you’ve hit so even though they’re going in all square I think it it’s still a continuation of the game well that’s the scene that we were hoping yesterday we would see for what has been so far an epic final and we’re in for more brilliant golf from two golfers that are playing at the very peak of their powers both five underpar with more excitement to come when we’re back on air in well just under an hour and a half see you then [Music] heat heat heat heat [Music] heat heat [Music] [Music] hey [Music] hey hey [Music] t-shot paramount as all these holes at Port Manuk just strategic hot bunkering right and left of the fairway off the tea can’t get home today so plot your way around you know Lorna’s great at that very intelligent golfer And Melanie Green’s got that dynamite hybrid that she likes for a second shot as well absolute beauty no holding back there a little bit more of a spring in the step in the swing for Mimant now just there checking the course guide it’s okay such a free swing i mean the ability to swing with freedom and commitment at this stage is to be admired it’s just hops over into the rough box looked like a reasonable lie though earlier in the week our very own George Harper Jr teamed up with Ireland’s twotime Speed Golf World Champion Rob Hogan to play a few holes around Port Maruk let’s see how they got on got three holes starting at the feature hole here at Port Marik it’s beautiful but we’re not here to look at the beauty we’re here to run past it go get off Maruchi oh Maruchi it’s a great shot what go in the hole get in go in the hole get in go in get in what an illustration of this hole because that was We were saying get in but this hole will do that to you wow you couldn’t have scripted this oh no this is an opportunity to exercise and display our virtue no yeah time come on come on beautiful come on look at that you go salvage salvage that’s your ball you got a T beautiful beautiful it’s a cracker it’s the best drive of the week right sweet what a shot we’re putting for eagle baby i can’t reach your hand right go in go in oh perfect booty well done [Music] beautiful sway [Music] oh oh okay time [Music] what shampoo what shampoo do you use it’s fantastic so this is the ball here of Melanie Green out on the left hand side in the rough but actually it’s not found too bad of a lie it has missed that pop bunker melanie Green just walking over towards it it’s about 230 yards in towards this green on the long par five lorna Clement has already reached her ball so we will see what Melanie does with this and if you have a look right behind you can see there’s this bank of three pot bunkers that guard this fairway on the way into the green the pin cut on the back right so it does provide a favorable angle in however Melanie is slightly blindsided by just a a knuckle of a hill just in front that will slightly just interfere with her ey line when she’s making this shot she’s got wood out the deliberations that she goes through familiar to us all who’ve been following her around these past few days here in Port Maruk the wind has died down the rain has eventually left us the sun just warming things up a little bit hasn’t quite dried out this hay though or those fairways or greens what a shot what a shot well we heard someone in the crowd say “What a shot.” And they weren’t wrong can we move so can we move as Sarah said it did look like it was on a little launch pad there easy to full send with the wood mimman also taking the fairway medal for the second shot here par five 16th 34th hole of this wonderful final what a shot i think she’s found something kit this is going into another gear might be long but what a shot it’s just run through and the way that stopped then quite firmly as it just nestled up against something which would be obviously on the side of the ball she’s wanting to hit to either chip or putt back towards the green i love that game plan though at this stage in the game just full send going for the green and two on a par five they’ve struggled to reach most of the week shows she’s taking her chances do we see a bit of sun does it look a bit brighter or am I trying to be as positive as possible well it’s trying we heard Sarah say the sun’s trying to come out the rain has stopped green just short of this par five in two climate just long in two level pegging you’d say on this particular hole but the Scott of course one up just three holes to play including this one taking on some fuel kit boy is it needed hydration still carrying her own clubs of course as she has done all week i’d love to know what her step count is for this week my whoop would blow up I think well it’s about 13,000 steps per 18 holes of golf on average this is their ninth round so I’ll let you do the maths on that it’s a lot and next week she’s at La Hinch in the Arnold Palmer Cup if this isn’t Link’s preparation for her I don’t know what is might be too much preparation she’s going to need a bit of a recovery for a few days I think after this no doubt the adrenaline has carried both of these players through today well you think about Bryson who just lifted the trophy the amount of adrenaline he brought into his next event said he had 12 hours sleep in about 4 days just shows what the adrenaline can do get you over the line well Green hit an absolute stunner of a little chip pit shot on the previous hole from a similar sort of position on that tight line near a bunker she’s got a little bit more green to work with on this occasion but she can draw upon that previous shot here yeah the bank’s going to help you get access to that pin just get the landing area right get the right loft in your hand looks like it’s going to go left to right as well just a few things you got to think about when you uh pick your shot all part of the many many calculations that go into it let’s hear from Sarah yeah we’re just having a look at Melanie Green address her ball at the front edge of this green here on the 17th Lorna we are beside her ball which has overshot the green this green slopes from front to back plenty of runoffs around this a lot of green for Melanie green to work with so let’s see a little bit of elevation but she’s trying to bump and run it all the way down a lovely touch there from the American she did it brilliantly on 15 executed that really well there on 16 and those chips off of the tight lies can be really difficult when the nerves set in not such a tight lie here Rachel no this is a tricky shot here how many she got she’s got about seven to land on be interesting to see what shot on a side slope going to deloft it slightly looks like she’s going to try and pitch it into that slope and let it release use the lie it’s the right idea just missed her landing spot car is going back and forth isn’t it just when you think one player’s in the ascendancy and they’re going to pull away it goes the other way i mean the tension in this commentary box is palpable i can’t imagine what it’s like out there at Paul Manuk glances between the players is that good is it a gimme what have they done and if you are just joining us we had a four up from Lorna through eight which then went to two up for Melanie and now it’s been two in and throw in mccclimman first which could be a huge advantage if she finds the bottom of the cup lorna would have got a read as this went past the hole always important to keep an eye on it free read past looks a little left to right to me always looked a little low off the blade so the door is firmly open for Melanie Green here lorna knows it hope she starts it high enough she’s just building the tension isn’t she what a showwoman steps in steps off of it i might fall off my chair in a minute huge moment 34th hole to win it and haul herself back to all square with two to play of course she does of course she does rachel that is a massive puck kit it was not an easy one it was not straight left to right she has not missed though from 34T in at all you come out and you get all the pictures you want so look at this just look at the pace that it goes in with as well center cup you know you’re putting well if you find middle of hole great pace great read so this final of the 121st women’s amateur championship goes to potentially the penultimate hole but of course we could go to extra holes if they can’t be separated through 36 the 17th on the course the 35th of this match and it’s a tough path for Rachel yeah the 17th scoring average 4 72 in the qualifying round so hasn’t yielded many birdies tricky hole characteristic pot bunkers left side 228 to carry the furthest on the left fairway finder needed [Music] it’s nice to be on that T fast though set the tone down 17 [Music] straight down to pick up the tea oh that’s got miles down there bit of adrenaline in that one that was a fantastic shot Ken characteristically gripping down the club that was an absolute peach right Lorna response she paused for a moment before going down to pick up her tea we think it’s okay so two holes left to play here which way is it going to go green or Mccclimate incredible entertainment here at the Women’s Amateur Championship and there’s plenty more entertainment coming your way in a fantastic summer of live golf it is the calm before the golfing storm for many [Music] can he swing it back in his favor again oh yes that is sensational just brilliant brian Harmon is the champion golfer of the year [Music] she is the AIG Women’s Open Champion [Applause] and the Curtis Cup belongs to team USA [Music] [Applause] so this is where the T-shot of Lorna Mccclement landed out here in the right hand rough you can see it just nestled down a little bit there is a little bit underneath but the hay around it may well impact how well the club will connect with that ball lorna making her way down along with her mom Gail who’s on the bag since yesterday such a battle and then way up ahead all the adrenaline in Melanie Green’s drive she sent it an absolute mile so now for Lorna the questions about what she does because up ahead the fairway narrows in towards that green and the green 37 yd long and it slopes all the way from left to right so that a consideration with the flag fluttering in towards the right hand side the wind blowing just ever so gently so penultimate hole the 17th the 35th of this magnificent final that still has more to give at the 121st women’s amateur championship and Lorna Mccleimman is in the fescue down the right hand side can she get this to the green there was so much grass there kit between club and ball it was hard to control the club head in that lie especially with this damp grass huge opportunity now for Melanie Green who’s absolutely smoked her T-shot here down 17 well we were saying that as we got closer to the finish line and the pressure rose would the golf improve and my word it has the last three holes have all been one with birdies 14 and 15 for Mccclimman 16 for Melanie Green that’s why we’re all square but this lady Melanie Green has got to be the favorite for this 17th hole right now with Mccclimman down the right hand side in the rough in two green just shaping up her approach here from the fairway must have been around the 270 number that drive i think the adrenaline kicked in she’s got 130 front edge pin on 22 flag tucked on the right hand side but as Sarah mentioned the green does slope left to right so anything middle of green use the contours want to hit close put a bit of pressure on Lorna well it’s a different day isn’t it we’ve been putting up with the rain all day as have the players and now it’s shifted the sun’s even trying to creep through and quite ripe for what promises to be an amazing finish to this epic final that is ebbed and flowed who is going to end with their hands on the trophy a good shot here might get one hand on the trophy for Melanie Green it’s fantastic shot very confident swing there from Green it’s like a different day out there now bit of reward for these fantastic Irish fans who’ve been out there in these numbers all day even when the waterproofs were on and the umbrellas were up showing their support for these two finalists and they certainly won’t have been disappointed by the intensity of this match as we said early on Lorna Mccclimman got four up through eight holes then Green picked up her first win of the match on the ninth the first time round and then everything went in her favor she was one up at lunch the American she managed to get three up through six holes of this second 18 but then it swung back the other way we were all square both players managed to sneak one up over the last few holes and right now with two holes left to play we are no closer to knowing which way this is going now this is going to be a tricky shot for my climb on we’ve got a right pin she’s missed on the right there was hardly any room to work with from that angle however our Sterling head coach says she’s got an array of short game shots so now’s the time to showcase should I stay here again as we could finish it or go forever just doesn’t look inviting going over those bunkers no you’d call this shortsided it was tough out of that layer out the rough so much grass wet rough between club and ball she’s got some room though just going to have to try and land it as cute as possible over that pot bunker it’s going to come out with no spin that’s as good as she could do from there great shot she was out of position on the hole and she’s done what she needed to do which is ask the question of Melanie Green make the American earn it don’t just give it away johnny Morgan back in the commentary box what a final oh what have I missed you and Rachel have been having a field day the last couple of holes just turned on its head where’s it going to go nobody knows the sun’s finally come out the play we got shadows on the greens the birds are chirping away what a wonderful advert for women’s golf this has been John oh amazing absolutely amazing nailbiting stuff as well wire to wire it’s going down 18 regardless of what happens here who’s going to be up after 17 taking a one up lead going down 18 or is it going to be all square we’ll have to wait and see melanie Green has this putt to take a oneup lead to 18 oh my goodness could you imagine the joyous occasion she’s going to give us as she slots this one in this bike might be a little march towards the hole with a fist pump as she slots it in breaking off the left it’s come out of it as low side as it running bit pacey that’s not going to be given that’ll be a little nerve check for her over to the climate now putting a line down on the line that she needs to start the ball on this is a couple of inches outside light outside left I should say penny for the thoughts of both these players right now all the time spent on putting greens working hard grinding it out come rain or shine a practice that we don’t see so when the cameras and the eyes are on you in moments like this you can find a part when you really really need to climb’s way of thinking is this has to go it’s on its way it’s a good roll at his low side that’s going to hurt so it’s conceded four or five for Mlyan why green has been put in these she doesn’t hang about we’re used to it by now the one time step off the two time step off you might think she’s looking nervous but she does that every time straight put this kit take a oneup lead going up 18 wow conquer lead done so in it goes backto back wins for Melanie Green on 16 and 17 she’s one up going to the 36th hole of the final of the 121st women’s amateur championship here at Port Manuk and the situation is crystal clear if you’re Lorna McClimman you have to win this hole the 18th what would they be faced with john 18 there’s the T- box back there as they get prepared everyone’s going to jostle for position round the T- box it’s a wondrous little part for this one 386 yds it is on the card you got three bunkers down the right members looking on this in my day i could I could get it up there with them i can’t do it now cool this is when you feel the ultimate pressure now this is it it’s within touching distance reach you can nearly smell the silver on the cup you’re like “There come on come on.” Championship Cup Gold Medal and Pam Barton Memorial Salva all goes to the champion plus those major and Augusta National Women’s Amateur exemptions well this is a tight very big rolling fairway at that you see a lot of balls not hitting this tight target with the three bunkers down the right hand side the last bunker down is 242 yds to carry changing club going for accuracy over length plane flying over they’ve got a great view of this final but we’ve got the best seat in the house this one’s playing downwind breezes downwind here at 18 now there’s a little ridge if you can get it around about pitching about the 250 mark if you can it will propel the ball miles forward leaving you next to nothing in for your second how’s your nerves can you feel your legs can you feel your arms that’s the thing you feel like your body’s doing a dance even though you’re trying to stay still oh it’s a bit right she’s starting to lean there’s a few claps though they think it’s straight it is coming down that hill and there you go getting a little bit extra pace there bounding on you’ve absolutely called it there John there’s McCaffrey there the cameraman looking on it’s from Ireland right on his doorstep grabbing some top photos and driver for mim no surprise she has to put the foot down it’s now or never full systems go here we go no holding back all your energy and all your passion in one shot little riper down the left there’s no bunkers there apart from thick rough hopefully get a good light but not the place to leave yourself with the pin on the left tucked over that bunker it’s not easy to get to just look like it might have settled down a little bit as well john you’ve played the amateur championship you’ve played on the DP World Tour the PGA Tour this is the biggest day of these young ladies golfing lives this the biggest hole the biggest moment what’s going through their minds right now well that’s it and it is the biggest moment this nerves they’ve never felt before they think they felt it but they’ve never felt this they have they’re coming down here they wouldn’t have felt their golf swing on that T-OT i can tell you that um you know it felt all alien they they wouldn’t even known that they’ve done it the adrenaline running coursing through their veins is massive it really is the intensity i mean they’ve never played in crowds and like this before as well that adds to the the pressure and then you come to what is on the line the trophy with all the amazing names the the tournaments you’re going to get in once you lift that trophy it’s massive you’re one down you got it all to prove you got to fight for it you’re one up you’re trying to defend well we want to hear what you think about this incredible match on social media join in the conversation tell us where you’re watching from who do you think’s going to win at this point #thewomen’s amateur on Instagram the RNA Golf R&D on X and the RNA on Facebook and YouTube there’s loads of great extra content there as well of course Melanie Green one up right now as she marches up the 18th the 36th pole of this final like the Pied Piper of Port Manuk all those fans following on behind and carrying her clubs it’s a marathon anyway nine rounds of golf now this week and she’s carried those clubs every step of the way yeah unbelievable isn’t it she’s done it her way we should have a song for it by Frank Soninatra after this she can get over the line she’s definitely done it her way in contrast for Lorna Mccclimman she’s got her mom on the back Gail which is absolutely lovely to have shared these last couple of days with her pushing along the electric trolley and this week’s women’s amateur championship is the first RNA champion to use all electric fleet of machinery for course setup as well and powered by solar energy and fortunately we’ve got a bit of solar out there now the rain has stopped i wonder if there’s a little bit of deliberation about perhaps who’s to play first here which of course any point in match play is vital but right now in the final hole of the women’s amateur final could be pivotal here we go justing who’s to go first and put the pressure on they look pretty neck and neck on the angle i would say it’s a climate to go first what do you think of that lie from what we can see of it John well unfortunately look like that’s one-dimensional for me that’s a kind of kind of carbon copy of the previous time she faced this hole here in the first round on the 18th and then but she was further right she was able to play up the green now she’s coming from a completely different angle she’s not going to be able to get spin from that line but it looks like greens to go first she’s on the fairway this is sitting pretty perfect location on this fairway as well to attack this left flag and just to remind you Melanie Green only needs to have this hole to win the championship [Music] a lovely little up sloop as well here Kit that’s going to propel the ball up nicely generate that little bit of spin pins on 11 10 off that left covered by that lovely pop bunker short left of this green falls away all the way around this putted surface sticking to the routine that has served her so well should be aiming this is just at the the left chimney that you see on top of the clubhouse that’s the location she’s aiming at just about 10 ft right of the pin sounded sweet staring it down what a great goal shot that has asked the question is that the swing that clinches the 121st women’s amateur championship for America’s Melanie Green lorna Mccleman will have something to say about that but it’s got to be special from here John super special i mean I to go the high route she has to flirt with that left bunker if anything she has to take it on i think if it was uh back on the first round she’d be playing up the middle of the green to the center of the green playing that load bump and run up on there but she can’t do it now she has to go at the flag high lofted hands off it she’s come out of it it’s heading right i feel bailed out last minute there’s a big fall off on the right hand side hold the green it’s giving her a chance great shot but with Manily Green in closer you think Lorna Mccclimman has to hold that putt to have a chance all day long but nerves we’ve seen it already anything can happen they’ve never felt this pressure before their hands are going to be like jelly do you know what the the way this final’s gone today I’m not ruling anything out right now why would you i mean literally pressure plays a funny role in this game we’ve seen it time and time again amazing support it’s been a long day it’s gone the full throttle it could even go to extra holes you never know [Applause] let’s hear this applause for the players tip my cat to green she put herself through carrying her own bag through she told she did it yesterday it was a better day yesterday but it’s been raining cats and dogs for majority of the day and she’s had to deal with that and this is her first ever appearance in the Women’s Amateur Championship Green her first ever time playing Irish Lynx Golf what a mic drop that would be huh one and in one and done too deep around the green now you can feel the intensity [Music] crashing down to tie up their pants taking a little stroll maybe just to relieve the tension as much as anything else climb on here is a one trap mind has to go in got to assume your opponent’s going to do the deal and take two putts and that would be enough for green hold a monster and do it like a hell round of green start high-fiving everyone those young fans are absolutely loving this so are we scotland’s Lorna Mccclimman won down the 36th hole of the final of the 121st Women’s Amateur Championship melanie Green in much closer she has to win the hole to extend the match you would think she has to hold this for birdie he’s running he’s got to go his low side wow disappointing unfortunately but nerves as well playing a massive part in that putt that clears the stage for Melanie Green 22 years old and she could be about to get her hands on that magnificent trophy about to write her name into the golfing history books she has two putts for the title but it would be great to do it in one John well that would be heaven now cozy this whole side it’s all done and dusted come on Green two pups to win the Women’s Amateur Championship wow you could have said that to her at the start of the week she probably wouldn’t have believed you melanie Green two putts from glory and she’s done it in one one and done green does it kit in her debut appearance in the Women’s Amateur Championship america’s Melanie Green is the champion and what a performance what a final and she applauds the fans who applaud her what a celebration kit what a moment for the young lady rachel Rachel what you thinking appreciate it just the sheer exhaustion in her face and celebration she’s been waiting for this moment one of her teammates for next week said playing the uh women’s amateur championship and she said “What’s that?” And here she is lifting the trophy and what a way to do it she’s overcome adversity all week she’s had to fight back from behind in matches she did it today she was four down through eight holes and she has won it in some fashion winning the 16th 17th and 18th holes for a two up victory oh my god absolutely amazing kit it really is Cinderella story the way it’s unfolded well let’s hear from our new champion she’s chatting with Sarah Malcarens what just actually happened what just actually happened you’re saying that Melanie Green you can’t believe it can you no oh my gosh all right where’s Rachel to ask me those questions again if I won oh my gosh so what do you think eventually down the line this will mean for you to have won this championship in the manner that you did as well such a tough battle today oh my gosh incredible lorna is is an incredible player incredible player every player that I faced um put up great matches like awesome um such great golf um yeah I don’t I don’t even know what you get when you win i just know that there’s a big old trophy that I’ve seen like seven days out here um yeah I mean this this tournament’s pretty old it’s got a lot of a lot of history with RNA um yeah I mean that’s incredible to to have my name on that little trophy um it’s it’s ridiculous the first American since 1996 since Kelly Cooney won it there we go yes but also for you you weren’t going to enter this you were convinced by a teammate to enter this a few weeks ago in preparation as well for for next week i mean you’ve come to Ireland you’re playing Lynx golf it suits you hey thanks um I’m glad that I got an Irish welcome well you certainly did the fans have been superb this amazing um yeah i want to thank every fan that’s here you guys have been awesome thank you guys so so much um yeah I’ve gotten so much love from from the locals um all the workers here again RNA Port Marik all the staff here um they’ve treated me so so well so um big kudos to you guys gosh this is awesome thank everybody i also wanted to ask about this next scarf because we’ve seen you wear it all week there’s a little bit of a story behind it isn’t there guacamole um there wasn’t a story behind it until this week uh I’m staying with uh Anna Morgan and and Kayn McNab and uh I put it on the first time and she’s like guacamole what’s up i’m like okay I guess that sticks for you sure just for her and finally for everybody competing it has been such a brilliant week you know you all have battled really hard and you’ve all had a great relationship and a camaraderie as well it must feel very special to be part of it all yeah yeah i’ve met some met some really cool people that I don’t usually get to see in in college golf and even you know summer tournaments and stuff like that so it’s really cool to to meet some new faces and uh faces and names that I’ve already known i just you know haven’t been able to say “Hey I’m Melanie.” You know um so yeah it’s just it’s this is awesome congratulations again Melanie Green you are the champion here at Port Maruk thank you what a win Melanie and listen up because I’m going to tell you exactly what you’ve just won and it is quite the hall the championship cup the gold medal and the Pam Barton memorial salva plus invites to the AIG Women’s Open the Amundi Evian Championship the US Women’s Open the Chevron Championship a ladies European tour event and the Augusta National Women’s Amateur at the start of this week she said “What I dreamed of age 10 does not compare to what I dream of now i want to be the best I can be you were the best this week and your dreams have just come true because you will be playing St andrews Augusta National and all of those incredible majors and what a way to close it out.” Oh what style K it really is what a celebration as well what she’s achieved she can’t believe it herself i don’t think she really knows the gravitas of this win you know she’s come here she’s kind of rocked up she says she’s just kind of freewheled it gone out there she’s ended up picking up the most gorgeous trophy with unbelievable names and she’s now going to get into everything the sky’s is the limit for the young lady the resilience she showed as well has been amazing well it’s been an incredible week this final has just capped it off how good has this been for women’s golf for golf in general Rachel it’s amazing Kit i mean we have to give props to Lorna Mcclim what a battle she put out there and to all the ladies that competed she was four up through eight holes and it just shows the resilience of both of these players the game is in a good shape yeah applause for Lorna Mccleimman as the runner up she takes the Diana Fishwick Cup and the silver medal i think she’s a name we’re going to see in the pro ranks pretty soon as well she has put the golfing world on notice this week but it is Melanie Green who is the victor by a two up margin here in Port Manuk oh John I think my heart rate is only just starting to come down after that that’s what golf is all about that’s the joy of match play you got to love it i mean what a spectacle it’s been here at Port Marik we’ve had everything we’ve had terrible weather we’ve had great weather we’ve had well rain coming in sideways in the final the sun came out to play right at the very end puck goes in grand stand finish green surrounded by local support absolutely loving life and it’s just been a great championship and we see that gleaming beautiful trophy she’s going to be putting her name on that and lifting that up very shortly it’s been absolutely amazing and and you know golf is the winner here because I love match play what can I say i just love it because it’s entertaining you know it’s entertainment through and through you never know what you’re going to get one minute you’re on a run next minute you you’re you know down in the dumps she the other person comes back and gets you and that’s exactly what happened in the final melanie Green said uh when asked what she’d do to celebrate she hadn’t really thought about it obviously and she said “Oh well I think I’ll go to the pub.” That’s what people in Ireland do isn’t it it certainly is it’ll be a welldeserved pint of Guinness if she hasn’t already tried it this week you can get a fair few pints of Guinness in that trophy i was going to say is she old enough I think Kit in America but yeah she’s 22 she’s good to have a couple of pints and in what style how she finished couple of birdies we didn’t see the course yielding many throughout the whole week so to finish in that style was magnificent i can only imagine what her father Ron mother Melissa and sister Tiffany brother Dylan are thinking back home hopefully watching us now trying to get hold of Melanie I’m sure on the phone mate they’ll be well enough just thinking about it because you got to try and put yourself in their position watching their their little girl on the TV screen fulfilled all the goals that you’d ever dream of ever doing and I guarantee they wish they were there to pick her up well their little girl is about to pick up that sensational trophy so let’s head down to the presentation yes the time has come to award this trophy so let me introduce the captain of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St andrews Neil Donaldson to make the presentation woohoo ready you got to get on what a brilliant champ and what a role model holy guacamole what a week we’re all a bit emotional in here aren’t we that level of attitude with all the ladies out there melody Green with the trophy above her head she is our 121st women’s amateur champion let’s take a little look back at just how she did it this is hole three this afternoon yeah still dismal weather flags were fluttering pretty hard we convert that her opponent came on this is her response and a bit of camera off the bank just shy this green going forward towards the flag hanging in the balance as we speak go to the fifth hole [Applause] great approach and that would double the advantage to two up it was amazing kit it really was and we come forward to seven big putt you’re thinking is it this is what she was doing all day leaving it in the jaws would miss that one got the climate back into it scott would continue that momentum with this wonderful approach that was the theme of the day unfortunately when it came to the greens lagging it in the jaws what could have been this one went in though green’s response didn’t work yeah this was the 13th she had a golden opportunity but just let that one slide by [Music] i mean wow what a golf shot some delay reaction on that one from Climant converted for Birdie [Music] 15th what a hole that was an absolute peach of a recovery pitch shot from Green but the Mly climate just poured it in for Birdie [Music] green did the same at 16 and then it went in her favor 17 she made the power to win and get one up and that was the golden moment salute to the crowd been great support all week kid she’s embraced the crowd the crowd have embraced her here at Port Manuk and well here’s what’s coming up on RNA TV and if they deliver even half of the entertainment and drama that we’ve seen today we are in for a treat the 152nd Open Championship at Royal True July 18 to the 21st the AIG Women’s Open at the home of golf St andrews August the 22nd to the 25th and Sunningale is the host of the Curtis Cup August the 30th to September the 1st what a lineup still to come this summer last question how excited are you for these major opportunities that are now ahead yeah I’m super excited um gosh I don’t even really know what to think about it yet there’s the flag at the top of the podium today america’s Melanie Green it was an incredible 36 hole final that toed and froed ebed and flowed but ultimately Melanie Green found what she needed to she won the last three holes to take down Lorna Mccleimman and add her name to the history books what a week it’s been at the 121st Amateur Championship here at Port Maruk a brilliant final on the line with the winner earning a spot in four major championships including the AIG Women’s Open in August some of the world’s best have lifted this prize a stepping stone on the path to major glory who will tread in their footsteps this is the 122nd Women’s Amateur Championship good afternoon and welcome back to Nan Golf Club in Scotland we are halfway through the final of the women’s amateur championship one of the most prestigious titles in amateur golf and we have been treated to a brilliant final so far paula Martin San Pedro of Spain and the American Farah O’Keefe have gone blow forblow in their first 18 holes this morning both players hitting five birdies and no bogeies on the card we now have one more round of 18 holes or maybe more around this beautiful Lynx course of men on the Murray Fur around 15 mi east of Invenesse at the start of the week we had 143 players teeing off now just two up for grabs are the historic title a beautiful trophy and exemptions to four majors we really do have everything set up perfectly you can settle back and enjoy live coverage with us until we find a champion and look at how the players have been brought on to the first team this afternoon [Music] heat heat [Music] well that does add a sense of occasion and well done to young Piper Archie Smith with as good a performance as we’ve seen from the two golfers already today that was a little bit earlier the two players are now waiting on the first te so we have had 18 holes already today of the highest quality match play and it is all square between the two players so now we have another 18 could go to extra holes of course but let’s see and the wind has picked up from this morning alongside me Katrina Matthew it really was brilliant golf this morning wasn’t it oh fantastic golf five under by both players you know in the final of the one of their biggest events they can play in as an amateur golfer uh they both played amazingly well and really looking forward to this afternoon and as we can see that wind fairly whipping now is going to make this front nine play very difficult so one of two things could happen this afternoon we could have the second American winner of this championship in a row after Melanie Green won last year or we might have our first Spanish winner in 16 years this is Ka Martin San Pedro who has been so collected so together the whole week hasn’t she she’s made very few mistakes she has very few mistakes i mean yesterday she was just very neat very compact as you said and just doesn’t give her give her doesn’t give her opponents much she’s not the one who’s likely to make many mistakes so we’re in for a real tussle this afternoon i mean they as I said they both played magnificent golf this afternoon but a slightly harder task this afternoon in this wind looking very relaxed absolutely it’s good to see San Pedro 19 years old and uh talking about relaxed and enjoying herself Farah O’Keefe 20 years old from Austin Texas with some of her American teammates there on the right and you wouldn’t know you wouldn’t know these two were about to set off on one of the biggest rounds of their career they are both really soaking all of this in aren’t they they are and great to see her teammates out there you know cheering her on they sound like they’ve been having a blast that American team over here in Ner so all square after the first 18 holes both players if you were counting the strokes were five under this morning good afternoon and welcome back to Sky Sports Golf viewers to Nan Golf Club in Scotland we are halfway through the final of the women’s amateur championship and there is nothing to split PA San Pedro of Spain and Farah O’Keefe of the USA as we enter this second round of 18hole match play it’s gone a little bit cloudier than this morning still better weather than yesterday and the wind has really picked up Katrina Matthew alongside me yeah Dandy the wind’s definitely going to be a factor seeing that 13 to 16 mph i think that looks a little brisker than that you see those flags but definitely picked up probably by about maybe 10 miles an hour from this morning there is the beautiful trophy or championship cup as it’s known that they are playing for and the roster of winners down below has plenty of big names from the world of women’s golf on it the likes of Katrina Matthew alongside me won it as Katrina Lambert in 1993 leona Magguire Georgia Hall Anna Nordquist of all won this title before going on to Good afternoon greater the professional game club for the final of the 122nd Women’s Amateur Championship this is the second round of the final and the match is currently all square the referee this afternoon is Sam Burton on the tea from the United States of America Barrett O’Keefe great to see so many spectators around this first team farah O’Keefe will get us underway as she avoided the bunkers oh similar to what she did this morning but not bad you can see it sitting nicely in the rough better in the rough than in the bunker believe to get that first T- shot over with so Paulo Martin San Pedro from Madrid in Spain hello to you especially this afternoon if you are family or friends of these two players i’m sure plenty of you tuning in and wishing you were in there just continued what she was doing this morning right down the middle good drive there from San Pedro and you’ve been here before Katrina you know you’ve won this event yourself back in back in 93 as I say at Royal Rhythm at St ans where you went on to win your major title as well that’s one of the quirky things quite unusual to win both in the same golf course but back when you were playing as an amateur like these women are today try and sum up your feelings on at this point of the final you’ve got another 18 holes to go can you remember how you were feeling on that first tick like in the morning I think you’re just you know you’ve had that break they’ve had what an hour an hour and a half off they’ll just be relieved to get going again they’ll have probably hit a few shots in the range a few more putts but they’re all square nothing to pick between them just looking forward to getting and now it’s back to just 18 holes match play you know just get back out there try and both played so well this morning i think they’ll just be keen to to play the same way they did this morning but both of them are going to be nervous i mean if they can keep anything like the standard up from this morning we’re in for an absolute roller coaster ride because they were so solid the putting especially I mean we I think we we focused on San Pedro’s putting but actually both of them sung really important putts along the way yeah they did and I think what impressed me as well was their iron play because it I mean it wasn’t quite as windy as it is this afternoon but it was still a bit of a breeze and and they hit a lot of quality iron shots just getting the distance right which is always can be difficult in when it gets windy there is that wind that Katrina’s referencing and that is definitely stronger than we’ve seen all day which adds just another layer of intrigue doesn’t it an excitement for us who are able to just sit back and watch it it does this is Lynx Golf at its best isn’t it nice bright breezy day well our encourse reporter all week has been Sophie Walker and Sophie is with the supporting contingent for Farah O’Keefe this afternoon well they are loud and proud supporting their girl Team USA now I heard that you got offered a tea time at one of the top 10 golf courses in the world today but Jasmine you turned it down yeah you know we got to come out here support our girl you know we just want to let you know Farah we got you we got you fam they’ve been making daisy chains there’s a crown there the crown for the champion so they’re all dressed in their red white and blue and they’re ready to bring it home for them yes ma’am the plan they’re going to be loud I’m sure right we’ll let you go out go and cheer your girl on thank you thank you jasmine Coup who Sophie spoke to there to begin with at the start of this championship there are two rounds of stroke play and the top 64 get through to the matchplay stages jasmine Coup was actually the best player in the stroke play round she shot 68 and 70 to be six under par she led the way she does actually win a bit of silverware uh for that Jasmine Coup so she’s not going empty going home empty-handed she takes the Doris Chambers trophy for that but it is great to see them out there supporting Farah and there is more of a team ethic being built around US amateur golf isn’t it yes definitely i think that’s an initiative been started by Mike Juan the new CEO of the USGA and I think it’s great just gets them more together because America as we know is a vast country so they could play and not really get to know and then they’re thrust together in team competitions like Curtis Cup Solheim Cup talking of team spirit San Pedro here is being caddied for by her teammate Paulo Francisco who she beat in the quarterfinal yesterday so San Pedro to hit first you can just tell the strength of the wind now he’d coming in here with a maybe a fivewood even maybe a 3-wood trying to punch that in keep it under the wind and just very easy to tug them when you’re trying to keep them low under the wind already got a very different feel this morning hasn’t it just everything about it a little bit more pressure the the weather’s a bit worse the crowds are bigger this is going to be good fun for us watching this is it this what it’s all about this is see who’s got the be the metal who see who can cope with the pressure the best O’Keefe now with her trusty long iron which we’ve seen her hit very successfully and she likes it willing it to move it left a touch not bad pretty good into that wind maybe just a club short and O’Keefe hair made the cut at the US women’s open a fortnight ago she finished two shots behind Lotty W in a tie for 36th place so she’s tasted major golf already but would get a place in four majors if she will to win today including that US Women’s Open again next year yeah that’s a fantastic bonus for them isn’t it just a word for the two caddies i’ve I’ve already told you that Pao Francisco San Pedro’s Spanish teammate is caddying for her but one notable character this week has also been the gentleman caddying for Farah O’Kee for a local Brian Ba Watson as we’re reliably informed he should be referred to and and BA Watson has been talking hasn’t he to Farah the whole way round but that’s really been settling her down it seems yeah it has i mean they’re both of fire is obviously someone who likes chatting on the golf course and we heard in one of her post round interviews that kind of keeps her calm keeps her not thinking about the golf so much and they’ve been a great a great partnership so far and one thing to look out for is we’re we’re told by Faroh Keefe that every time she hits a good shot BA Watson will reach into the bag and give her a pack of sweeties to uh to choose from so uh if you see that happening then you know that the uh you know a good shot has been struck exactly team O key for doing well and here’s San Pedro just missed it to the left hand side of the green but she does have a lot of green to work with the pin is just six yards off the right so she’s got a good 10 12 yards over that bunker to get to the green and into the wind this really shouldn’t be too much of a problem she could fly this most of the way and it’ll stop brilliant to see so many people out there on the course they can get really close up to the players only the one match to follow of course so galleries around the greens in particular are going to be growing all the time i think they’re just waiting for a judgment here on who should play first is it or is there something specifically going on this has got to be down to who plays next i think she’s going sight off and you get a better view when you look at it from the pin yeah he just needs someone else to make the decision because as we know match play can be quite crucial as to who plays first well I mean especially when there’s been absolutely nothing in it between these two every every little moment like this could have an impact as I say under normal circumstances this a fairly straightforward chip san Pedro was the best ranked European player coming in to this championship this week yeah she’s played that oh goodness me what a shot we had no bogeies this morning and they’re desperate to continue that that was a great shot easy this game isn’t it it really is i tell you what she hasn’t missed a putt of of the length that she’s left herself no all day the technique there was really good oh did everything but go in so can O’Keefe match that or better it and O’Keefe with the very more straightforward little chip surprised she didn’t get that one marked actually just behind or that San Pedro didn’t mark oh she has marked it sorry and again chipping rather than putting from off the green oh she went quite high there i think what with the wind getting a bit stronger I think you’d need to try and keep the ball a little bit closer lower to the ground would you have chipped from there i would have chipped but I think I would have hit more a lower ball flight bit more of a a chip and run the first little yeah an error we didn’t see too many of them earlier on a remarkable path to this final from O’Keefe because yesterday she had to go to a 19th hole against Tilly Claget but O’Keefe was four down with five to play against the Canadian got back to all square after 18 and then won the first extra hole it really was an amazing turnaround so she’s a fighter and they have the same pin positions this afternoon as they had this morning so quite good for knowing the lines and you’ve seen the lines what it does around the hole can’t she get the pace back up the hill into the breeze need to give it a hit no so she will have seen San Pedro be deadly with her putter this morning and she’ll know there’s a pretty strong chance that O’Keefe will be one down in the next few moments on this the first hole this afternoon 19th hole overall in this final pulls the ponytail down over her shoulder and in it goes we’ve saw that a lot in the first 18 holes and San Pedro goes one up yep one up good par four there today this afternoon and I don’t think we saw either player did we just double checking but neither player got beyond one up we didn’t see either player get to two up at all no each time San Pedro went one up O Farah O’Keefe sorry sorry O’Keefe tended to get the next hole back so let’s see if she can get this second hole back so the last Spanish winner as I said was 16 years ago it was Aahara Muno in 2009 it was actually an all Spanish final that year against Carlotta Saganda at Royal St David’s and Saganda had won two years previous 2007 and another Spaniard Bellen Moso won in 2006 at Royal County down so we actually had five Spanish winners in nine years between 2001 and 2009 so it’ be a good list for San Pedro to join melanie Green won for the USA last year at Port Manuk but before that you’d have to go back 29 years to Kelly Keaney’s victory for another American win so what can you tell us Katrina about this second hole yeah onto the par five second 451 yards but back into that stiffer breeze it’s going to be two big shots to try and get this green this afternoon there two fairway bunkers to try and avoid this one’s going a little left but that is absolutely fine o’keefe is the bigger hitter isn’t she she generally hit it a little bit further didn’t she so let’s see if she can She hiked one left here this morning so let’s see if she can find the fairway anxious face oh and caught the fairway bunker that’s going to make this a tough par five now just going to have to play out and she’ll still have a long shot into the green slightly shaky start for the American it’s the final of the women’s amateur championship i mean maybe Shaki is overplaying it but compared to this morning when it was all pretty flawless the uh the short chip on the first and now that drive we’re getting a little nitpicky now but Yeah yeah one down and then you’re kind of behind the eightball now in that bunker as we know on Lynx golf courses the the fairway bunkers they’re not like American bunkers they really are stroking distance so we saw what looked to be O’Keefe’s ball going into the bunker sophie Walker’s down there to confirm you are correct there i mean this morning there was a wee breeze but as the locals say it is pumping right now the these golf balls down the left hand side first Paulo Martin San Pedro that’s only gone 220 yards off the tea box straight into the wind but it’s a good lie so she is in pole position that is because Far who hits it that little bit longer and in this case it was straighter has found the bunker on the left hand side so from her ball position at the moment she’s got 195 yards to the front edge but she’s looking at wedging it out so a three shooter maybe the Spanish player can get somewhere within chipping distance but it is a nervy start for Far thanks Sophie so O’Keefe there in the bunker and Katrina I guess you’d agree that all she’s going to be able to do there is knock it out onto the fairway yeah just a short arm out in the fairway into position for her third shot and San Pedro is going to have about 214 yards so probably just out of distance but should be able to get it up round the green yes the other one’s there we get a great look at the angle she has you can really see the green just a couple of bunkers up on that left hand side on the second hole the 20th hole of this final san Pedro with a decent lie in the rough o’keefe in the bunker and won’t be able to do a great deal from there yes he’s going to Now let’s see how close she can get can she get a kind of low runny 3-wood skipping along isn’t it it’s trying its best isn’t it that was a good shot she loves that three-wood key here is just not to be too greedy oh and very nicely played got that nice and clean she’s got that well down that was a good shot and her short game is very strong wedge play so that’s I’d say they’re pretty even stevens actually aren’t they in terms of where they’ve ended up and what might happen next yeah maybe a little bit of an advantage to San Pedro a little bit closer to the green but here we go we see a great view overhead view here of the second hole you can see those two bunkers it was the one on the left that O’Keefe was in and San Pedro just to the left of that great three-wood just down just short of the green that one bunker lurking there on the left hand side but with the pin today just eight on and 10 from the right that’s not really come into play [Music] and Katrina you were the victorious Curtis Cup winning captain last year at Sunningdale faroh Keith one of the alter alternates wasn’t she for for that event so that just shows underlines what a strong American team you beat yeah doesn’t it just i expect to see her featuring next year at Bair in the Curtis Cup especially after a performance like this and like this championship the Curtis Cup hugely important for women’s golf generally isn’t it hu yeah and especially for you know amateur women’s golf it’s you know USA against GBNI the ladies the women’s equivalent of the of the Walker Cup and the crowds at Sunningdale last year were just were fantastic it was an amazing venue and the standard of golf i mean I think generally just from hearing any of the crowd watching they were just so impressed by the standard of golf by both teams and this nan golf club hosted the Curtis Cup back in 2012 that was another GBN Ireland win so O’Keefe here with uh with work to do but she’s been very very strong in this element of the game all week she has she’s kind of excelled at her wedge play coming from Texas used to playing in the breeze she’ll be used to knocking these wedges down which we’ve seen she likes to do she likes to grip down a little bit on them get that control you can see her there gripping down on this wedge oh superb very good getting a big round of applause from the crowd a few whoops from her American teammates I’m sure but that is that’s really good matchplay golf again isn’t it from O’Keefe having had the disappointment of being in the bunker seeing her opponent get pretty close up to the green with her second shot that’s exactly what she needed to do yeah she’s responded as you said she’s responded very well so far every time she’s happened to lose a hole very very difficult to pick a winner and a little bit like the first toll where San Pedro kind of pitched it pitched first hit a good shot in and now she San Pedro’s in the opposite position now she’s seen a good one in from O’Keefe got to try and match it she’s going to be chipping as well just plotting where to land the ball and let it release yeah I think a lot of time players they’ll walk up and they’ll try and p pick a mark where they want the ball to land so then when she goes back to the ball she’ll be taking a couple of little practice swings looking at that point wanting to land it there so a bit of pressure on this one so just skimming past the edge again that was two two very good pitches she said in the first two holes and conceded so Keith’s got this for the half there is so little between these two players is isn’t there in terms of the way they’re both playing confidence levels everything is just the margins are so fine yeah it’s made for a a fascinating and very enjoyable watch you feel like this could be a Soulheim Cup singles match in a few years time so to have the hole on hole number 20 of course she does very good gritty isn’t it gritty play fist pump from BA Watson probably not worthy of a sweet but a fist pump will do we’ll save the sweeties for for for birdies birdies that win holes shall I say so onto the third yeah the 371 yard par4 slight dog leg left or spushies down the right which they’ve in the morning they took three woods to kind of keep themselves short of them but this afternoon with that breeze it might well be a driver and it’s interesting when you when you see it from angles like this and certainly the overheads it’s the first what seven holes of of nan run right along the beach and and it’s close you know for for Oh you could easily for me mortals there must be lots of balls go on the beach you could easily hit it on the beach that’s when you want the tide to be out so you can go down and hit it san Pedro just so neat and tidy with everything she does yeah out with the driver this afternoon it’s 247 to the GS on the right and two bunkers down the left just to try and avoid sand just caught the bunker but might be far enough back in and it didn’t go in with too much speed one thing I didn’t mention on the first hole was O’Keefe’s bogey was the first bogey from from either player in this entire final but responding with a birdie just like a playing opponent on the second i’ve seen a few where the hand comes off the club oh gosh that’s horrible wicked lie she’d have been better off in the bunker be very interesting if Sophie can see if she’s got a even a stance to that one well first one is both wow yeah that’s uh that’s going to be horrible sophie’s going straight in for a look yeah it’s just on that little finger isn’t it of the thick rough you’d rather be left-handed here wouldn’t you cuz right-handed your your balance is going to be severely tested left-handers could probably stand in the in the bunker couldn’t they and and hit out yeah i’m not sure i’m not sure sophie how bad is it well I don’t like to tell you you’re wrong Andy but you need to be right-handed to play this shot left-handed you’ll be in the bunker i think look she’s got lucky but she’s got lucky in the sense that she can stand at this golf ball she’s got to stick her weight on her right foot she’s got 130 yards hold the blade incredibly stable through impact and she can hit the green from there it might flip on her from right to left that wind back into her face the problem is as you come in with this with speed you want to fall back so she could end up falling back into the bunker it really is a sense of how good athletically you are here not really golf swing you’ve got to hold your balance so 130 yards from this point for Far pa has got 132 yards from the middle of that bunker needs to get it up quick back into the wind both these players are going to find it hard to hit the putting surface because the balls are going to want to balloon this is going to be an interesting watch yeah it’s easy to forget that San Pedro is also in the bunker so they both need to get out of trouble here this is what we find on the third fairway hole number 21 for these two in this final and uh yeah both kind of awkward spots aren’t they farah O’Keefe’s ball is just at the bottom of of that little patch of grass a thick thick long grass it is too just for good measure san Pedro in the sand yeah San Pedro with 132 yards to the flag into the wind and you can just see how quickly she’s going to have to get it up i think she’ll struggle potentially might the best maybe the front of the green but it’s going to have to be an awful good shot to get there she might not take on that with seeing where Keith is she might just take a club club club more and get it make sure she gets it out rely on her short game everything came so easily to both players this morning but just uh being tested a bit more now that has to at least in part be down to the the wind i think the wind yeah big part it’s always so tempting just to maybe think you can get that a little bit more take a club more so will hit hit out first picked a club some dark clouds top left isn’t there let’s hope they stay away needs a ladder to see over the top of this one she’s gone with quite a straight face club she’s taking this on I think trying to get the front of the green oh you could see she was tempted to go for that and that Oh never go kind of cardinal sin you’ve just first thing you’ve got to get them out is she going to change club or try she maybe just got a little bit thin take two oh no oh golly oh just getting greedy you can see how Keith’s going to change club i think she’s just going to chip out now you’ve got to just play your opponent so third go but really damaging sympathetic round of applause from the gallery oh my word well shot well that’s a five my goodness i cannot believe that was quite the shot i mean in amongst all that of course she’ll be thinking “Why didn’t I just do that the first time?” Yeah anyway this is really tough i think she’s just chipping out yeah she’s got shots in hand now well what a remarkable couple of minutes of golf we had there two failed attempts to get out of the bunker changed club knocked it to within a couple of feet but Farah O’Keefe with a couple of shots in hand here should absolutely win this hole it will be unforgivable if she doesn’t really so that’s O’Keefe’s ball well I don’t know i mean San Pedro’s there in four after that one so she’s in for five so Keith’s got to get up and down here that was just it was such a fantastic shot this the the third one out the bunker took everyone by surprise i think it’s a good point actually cuz I’ve kind of just conceded that putt already two shots in a bunker you’ve lost a hold for five there yeah so actually with O’Keefe playing her third she still needs to to get her third shot close the American anyway she needs to uh shrug two of those bunker shots off very levelheaded didn’t show any signs of anger or anything like that so uh she’s still uh still smiling probably saying “Why didn’t I hit that club the first time?” Let’s see if O’Keefe can get one in close oh good shot so Keith’s got that one to win the hole oh what a strange hole this has been we’ve spoken about how San Pedro is being caddied for by her by her friend her teammate another player Pow Francisco perhaps an out and out caddy a true caddy might have had more of a of an influence on San Pedro in that bunker or do you not think so she seems to be her own person in fairness she does seem to be picking her own clubs but you know they might have just said you know just make sure you get it out you’ve got to get it out i think a player you’re always tempted just to think you can get it go a little bit more but it’s tricky it’s up to the player to they know how they can hit the ball how high they hit it what the lies like in the bunker but after all this so Keith’s still got this putt to win the hole and get back to all square both her and her caddy both study the line they’ve been doing this for the last few days she’s taking a lot of input from her local caddy Brian and this is what we saw all morning she would lose a hole and then win it back can’t she do it again she’ll feel that feel that she really should sink this one has this very steady prep routine good part there back we go to all square and another birdie all square game face on we’ve seen a lot of O’Keefe smiling and joking and I’m sure there’ll be more of that don’t get me wrong but uh it’s getting a bit serious now a little edgy a little edgy now off to the fourth the first par three and this one will be downwind now back downwind back towards the clubhouse 21 holes down maybe 15 to go let’s watch that birdie putt again right in the heart of the hole great putt and she’d have felt you know she was standing watching San Pedro take those three shots out of the bunker and she would be thinking “Oh I’m going to win this hole.” And then suddenly she has to hold a good putt to win it first of the par threes then yeah 155 yards back downwind you can just see that kind of ridge there the bunker they’ve got to clear that ideally clear the down slow and get onto the putting surface and then it should just kick down to the hole but just going to be a a short iron with the wind behind probably just a nine iron or a little eight probably a nine iron so Ke it is hitting out towards the FTH wants it to come left well she’ll take that I think i mean she doesn’t look happy but that’s okay that’s okay she had a wonderful shot in there this morning to about 5 ft sometimes quite difficult when you’re just playing the same golf course again same pins you remember what you did in the morning there you go you can just see the the flag fluttering there in the distance just left of the bunker aim for that sailing boat in the distance and bring it round oh she wants it to sit oh and she got a big bounce there just didn’t quite carry it far enough and caught the downs slope and I’m sure plenty of you watching will be uh regular golfers either viewers or players but uh if you’re watching this and thinking “Hold on a minute I quite fancy giving this uh frustrating game a go,” then the RNA’s Just Swing campaign can help boat out there these strengthening breezes lots of ways to join the conversation and follow this woman’s amateur are you a good sailor Beanie no no I’m not particularly lived by the seaside my whole life but never really got into sailing was either sailing or golf i went the golf yeah i mean you can throw up on the golf course but I’m on about can you manage the motion of a boat no that’s pretty i’m not a roller coaster person i like That’s a great sign if you’re not a roller coaster person you’re not going to enjoy boats the breeze has stayed up pretty much as it was it has i think if anything it’s maybe just edged a little bit stronger i’ve got a terrible story when I was in Brazil 1985 um which I will not tell on here but it’s to do with boats and and and it didn’t go well that’s all I’m saying i think we’ll all just have our own thoughts on what may have happened no you will find out you will find out yeah and I think the crowds have heard what’s been happening down here at Neran Golf Club yeah I think I think this morning I think the news has got out there yeah we got two girls playing some unbelievably good golf this could be one of the best finals for some time this Yeah the the standard of play has been second to none brian’s been sacked i think we maybe just missed his I’m sure he had a little input into this left to righter good try there read that one very well you know you’re looking at putts that you like the look of whether they’re straight with a little bit of movement or some that have a big break you got to love a curly that was terrific that was because you’ve really I think on these ones with a big break you’ve got to get the line and the pace just right yeah and imagination comes into it as well and this is where it’s quite interesting with the same pin san Pedro had a a longer putt but on a very similar line this morning this a chance good try good try when you look at the score graphic that comes up in the corner 22 doesn’t look right does it because you’re so conditioned to 1 to 18 in terms of what hole are they on it’s hole 22 yeah and just making her putt this one she’s on the beanie plan just mix it up mix it up that’s I think that’s the best thing mix it up she won’t be expecting her to miss it but thing you have to say to yourself has she ever missed a putt this short and the answer would have been yes what I would always say to myself when I was thinking about giving or not giving a putt was would I want to putt that and if I’ve had any little doubt think well it’s got a little break little this I would say oh well let’s just make them putt it she actually looks like she enjoys those short ones cuz she’s they’re back of the hole boom in they are she’s a very confident putter yeah very good i mean I can see these two being all square after 36 and all square after another nine we may need to book another night onto the fifth par four just right along the beach i think this is a lovely T-shot and I think with a strengthening breeze those bunkers down the right won’t be in play 252 to them which in a way makes the T-shot easier yeah they it played quite certainly more than its length this morning but if you’re trying to hit this down the right and draw a little bit and you you block cut it you could end up the beach i’m sure there’ve been many players hit from the sand she’s almost aiming at those bunkers which is over the heads of those people on the corner with a bit of turn from right to left another good one see that’s not a million miles from the coastline from the arch it’s not no very good brian will never have more air time in his entire life than he’s had over these two days never and I think potentially the people he normally carries for might visit the beach a little more often well he should put his prices up you want Brian it’s £200 a round that looks fairly new there’s not a blemish on it another lovely drive another good drive so it’s been a pattern it’s been hit strike applause hit strike applause nearly every shot they’ve hit jeez they’re having a good time aren’t they spanish girls they are they aren’t they yeah obviously good friends known each other i think they said they first played when they were maybe 10 years old the two known each other a long time yeah the two and and Pala Francisco is never going to forget this either she had a great run herself you talk about that crowd has doubled comfortably but maybe tripled absolutely and a lot of youngsters which is great to see that that’s really you know if you’re the RNA trying to grow the game that’s 100% what they want to see you might be here for the first time with your uncle or your granddad or your family your mom and all of a sudden you see that and you think “Oh I haven’t tried that.” You know I do football and hockey i love little golf i’m a Liverpool fan maybe I’m going to be a golf fan i didn’t say it was a perfect picture just said it’s you know it’s an encouraging picture it’s got the goldie number on there isn’t it goodness you could almost say you’ve got a Liverpool sponge on the end of your microphone you could almost say that i do have a little red one there you’re going for the Everton one well that actually we are the city of Liverpool aren’t we if you look at this yeah right viewfinders are out looking at the yardage from the center of the fairway which is largely where they’ve played their entire round in this final certainly in the morning and this afternoon it’s very impressive a lot of Liverpool fans in our gallery you know that don’t you well perhaps they’re Spanish fans or American we’ve got the red covered anyway everyone’s got the red covered today do we know who’s first to hit but I’ve already seen San Pedro hit a a wood into the first to hole but looking like coming out with the iron here it’s 374 it’s just as we’ve talked about the golf course nan has got its heavy wind back and even a shot of 150 yards with a heavy wind you’re probably looking at 10 15 yards yeah easily easily with the wind but sometimes it’s a two club wind out here so this is going to be a a longish iron six iron oh that looked a good swing she’s watching it though very good [Applause] she actually really enjoyed that so she should have done yeah you don’t high five in every second shot you hit do you that’s normal shows how difficult that shot was yeah this is 7 again down the grip for a Keith little further down the fairway but punchy keep the ball flight flat hear the nice contact ball turf and another good shot i’m starting to get my thud back these lovely greens it was a bit softer this morning after the overnight rain the thud is coming back the firmness of the surface and I like the thud when they get a nice iron shot where you just catch it you get that ball turf people at home that play the game the last thing they want to do is play off of bare firm lynx turf and all the professional wants to do what they love is hit iron shots of bare firm lynx turf it’s the complete turnaround it’s like in the winter in Scotland a lot of the courses go to mats and a lot of the members just love it you get that you can play off a mat very difficult to hit a bad shot don’t talk to me about mats especially for the chipping because you get that little bit of spin on yes it’s great i’m loving this loving the crowd and the players will love the crowd just adds to the excitement you if you if you’re anything worth your salt you want to play in front of a crowd you do if you’re playing well you want to impress them i’m loving the dog there the collie that gives you an idea why they were she was high-fiving that second shot yeah i mean that green kind of sits up high it was a very direct line with the push being not the miss so she was very brave with that and an idea of how the rolloffs are on these greens sometimes they look a lot flatter than they actually are from the edges and if you do just miss your iron shot just miss the green it hits that bank and can shoot off quite a long distance but a lot of the greens here there’s not much going on you know they’re you see a lot of putts there’s not huge swings they’re fairly flattish when they build i think that’s down to because of where it is it’s the You normally play this golf course with a wind they can’t have them too undulating cap and a half okay i notice when she feels the ground she does one straddle okay Miss O’Keefe and that’s enough others pigeon step their way up the entire putt you know with the feet barely 6 in apart i think what she did there is fine but you could argue on a putt this length it’s going to maybe have more than one or two breaks so should you have to do it in more places whatever you do becomes routine and you do it as a matter of habit i don’t even so much think it’s feeling the line is it’s just her habit it’s what she does it’s her routine you start reading the green before you even walk on it now see if she can get the speed right this looks like it’s going to come from the left a little bit yeah cup and a half we heard the caddy say Farah seemed to agree as she hit it it’s looking good oh good try it was a good read because she had hit about three cups left so it would have gone in brian can say “Told you.” Maybe not at the time we hit two terrific shots in there and you missed the putt who’s going to break the deadlock first san Pedro she’s my pick for the Yeah I picked her at lunchtime so Just feeling she’s hold maybe just one two putts more two good putts two gave them a run two goods two good cars yep good shots into a heavy wind she just doesn’t look nervous in the slightest well I I think her friend the other Paola is is helping an awful lot she’s keeping her in that right headsp space where we’re having fun we’re going to enjoy this it’s not too serious even though you know underlying there’s a lot at stake absolutely here we are in the sixth 162 yds you see those two bunkers at the front and the pin here is just 11 on and eight from the right so kind of tucked over that right hand bunker so into this heavy wind i would say middle of the green would be a good shot gives you a little bit of leeway if you push it a little you’re going to be really good but I would think they’ll be aiming middle of the green it’s a Jack Nicholas Augusta plan hit it to the middle of greens and then putt to the holes if you’re in the middle of the green you’re never too far away 11 on yesterday 11 on today a little further right than it was on Saturday but if you’re going at the pin here you are taking on with a slight push missing it right and then falling away off the putting surface so you’re right Beanie left of the pin center of the green it’s not a birdie hole no not really no there you get a lovely view there you can see all that green to the left sixiron oh is this good is this good it certainly is great shot [Applause] that’ll be exactly how she pictured that shot her iron play for two days has been very composed without a doubt the strength of her game well she keeps putting the hammer down and San Pedro responds every time now as she’s trying to draw this one in is it hooking enough she just looked like she was aiming a fract maybe just going at the pin a little bit too much slightly too aggressive i wish I had that attitude when I was playing nothing seems to bother her mr green just smiling yeah but we’re all put together in different ways aren’t we and in the end you’ve got to find out of getting the most out of yourself in a sense being true to yourself you can’t turn yourself into something else you can manage yourself definitely like if you’re you know if you blow hot don’t lose the head and if you do it’s gone i always thought the Australians were really good at that they might swear and go bananas but see 40 seconds down the road it’s history next case they were very good at that yeah you can’t you can’t do anything about the shot you’ve already hit all you can do is look forward to the to the shot you’ve got ahead of you sophie’s up at the green having a look at what’s ahead sofh you could just see from Paula’s shot there as she was leaning to the right just didn’t quite square the face so it’s come up short and right but thankfully not rolled too far from the green she’s slightly below the putting surface but on a lovely lie she’s going to look it look to pitch it just on the front edge and then have it roll down from right to left it’s also back into the wind so she can be aggressive with this pitch shot how are you playing that one Beanie i think I would bounce that short maybe use a wedge bounce it short one hop up and then let it roll down 100% that’s what I’d do as well saying but I feel she’s going to go this the way Sophie said the one advantage obviously you’re playing back into the wind once it pitches onto where the putting surface starts it starts to tip down towards the hole that’s not helping her but the only thing going for her is that it’s into the wind Yeah now she’s able to get very close to the ball when she’s playing bunker shots so she must be very assured that she can deliver that club head properly we’ve hit her seen her hit a couple of lovely little pitches so far this afternoon i I still like your shot into the bank one hop over the top and just trundle down but she’s going upstairs i think she’s going to carry it onto the button surface oh just hold it in what a shot fantastic you’d have probably held it your way i don’t know you’d have probably held it your way that was amazing well she lipped out in the first skimmed past the edge on the second once it took the first bounce and checked online here it just always had a chance and she just hit it perfectly as Sophie said landed it just on the front and let it run down I’m sure she’s related to Sevy i’m sure she is three amazing bunker shots and a chip in there and what a blow to her keith hit a fantastic shot in and now having to hold this putt just to half the hole i think a half in twos here would be otherworldly a difficult pin position well chance to respond which in the end would be a hammer blow to the Spaniard you must think I could be one up here it looks like it’s going to come a little bit right to left this yeah just San Pedro’s pitch just came in a little bit left to right so just coming from the other way that’s not high enough that was a real steal for San Pedro wasn’t it wasn’t it really that’s That was the classic topsyturvy match play hole in control of the hole and then you walk off one down i don’t know why she keeps hitting these practice cuz I’ve not actually seen her whole one yet haven’t seen the second one go in no yeah it’s not it’s not really bearing much fruit no other than it’s part of her routine it’s a thing that she always does but you can’t always really do that cuz nor you don’t normally play match play so one up to the Spaniard we’ve never seen anyone get to two up yet no this is their ninth round is it not in this yes and add practice rounds to that it’s a marathon probably play the course more than some of the members yeah fair point 11 rounds fair point so the scores have changed and this is the seventh par five and not reachable into this wind so we saw this this morning they were hitting three woods just to take the fairway bunkers out of play she’s going down the grip it looked like Yeah she is a little bit on this fairway wood look at the strike mark in the middle of the face maybe just down it slightly to keep it fraction lower a good shot yeah for how new the driver is that’s a trusty old 3-wood i think it’s easier to find a driver than it is a 3-wood i found a three-wood was the toughest club to try and find i’d find one I liked off the tea but I didn’t like it off the off the fairway or vice versa do you remember Monty Street where you had it for years years wouldn’t change it driver maybe teed it down there a little maybe just trying to a kind of lower squeezy one good swing she did say that her favorite shot was was a sort of punch squeeze driver left to right when we talked to her yesterday but she just executed perfectly there see she’s risking because she brought the bunker on the left into play she doesn’t reach the green in three as she goes in there she must have been Maybe she’s trying to change how she feels about the match she’s just gone one down and she’d done nothing wrong in the previous hole here we get a good look at the the seventh there’s those two bunkers just down the left hand side that San Pedro kept short off with 3-wood but Keith kind of took on a little bit and then these two little bunkers here just short of the green about 80 yards short of the green they’re the two that San Pedro’s maybe going to have to wonder can I get over them do I have to lay short no she can’t get over that maybe that’s why Keith went with driver to take those two bunkers out it’s definitely her gamble to just get in closer to the green yeah that’s her gamble you know rather go into the green or third shot with a maybe a little pitch rather than a a kind of wedge nine iron it can even be if you’re going to make sure you’re not in those bunkers it can even be more club than that with this wind that was the first 18 holes no one ever more than one up but it was always the Spaniard she’s back in that position again she’s used to being one up yeah all you need is that one up on the 36th toe yes that’s very true what she doesn’t want here though is an ups slope cuz she’s very close to one welcome along if you’re joining us it’s the second 18 holes of this special final that we’re watching no bogeies to report by the way so far all birdies and pars the standard of golf has been excellent that’s a wood in her hand yeah she’s just got to be very careful of those two bunkers in the middle of the fairway 80 yards short the the camera view you’re getting at home can be deceiving it makes it look like this is 150 yards from the hole it’s most certainly isn’t that bunker you can see there that’s what she’s got to avoid [Applause] that was a brave layup judged perfectly and that’s what we were saying with the Keith hitting the driver i think she might be able to take them on get over them otherwise there’s no point hitting it yeah I think she’s going to have a rattle with a 3wood here and try and get it to within pitching distance no she’s taking the iron out of play she’s not going over the bunkers with this no which makes it an odd play with the driver yeah there’s no point hitting drive if you’re doing this unless she just didn’t get it as far up as she thought she might and feels she can’t carry the bunkers comfortably down the grip and a four on two ways of doing the same thing yep both battle of the third shots camera i think the plan was if I button the driver I can get it over those bunkers they had to readjust yeah but that can be a good thing you know it didn’t work out the way she wanted but she had the commitment to hit the T-shot from the T- box and that gives you a little bit of pep and shows she’s confident with the driver it’s a great view seeing everyone trooping up the fairway fantastic yeah absolutely brilliant what people don’t realize as amateurs watching this from wherever you’re watching is after a while as a player you don’t see people they just don’t become part of it they don’t become part of what you see unless you hear a noise some at the wrong time you’re completely unaware after a while of anyone being there watching yes you’re right i think the first the first couple of times you play in front of say a camera or a lot of people watching you’re pretty nervous but you’re right absolutely you just forget they’re there pins 27 up so it’s quite a long way into the green 136 yeah 136 there you’re hearing Caddy say 150 155 okay nothing short for you okay it’s at least seven on yeah yeah just going to balloon in the air we just had a six at the last and that was a 103 yeah so I mean it’s the right number okay for just saying that earlier that’s the difficulty in lengths of laying up you never quite know what bounce you’re going to get as we say if you lay up you want to make sure you lay up so leaving her with a seven iron in here 136 is the mean yardage of the winds obviously make it play over 150 that’s got a look of left about it we had enough I think that’ll be okay just trickled off tugged it a little but she’ll get the putter on that down there oh she’s got about 120 yards here i think she just wants to hit this maybe 5 yards right of the hole she likes to hit that little draw in this looks like a chip with an eight iron she likes it walking after it good shot that’s three very good shots she hit there two fairway woods and an eight iron and a chance for another birdie played that exhole exactly how she would have pictured it in her head and left the ball in a good spot back up the hill it’s almost a little bit gusty now and it’s it’s getting to that strength where it’s being downwind’s not going to be a whole lot easier so after 24 holes that represents some high quality golf it really does five under parath for O’Keefe in total and one shot better for San Pedro 11 under parath the pair that’s that is good golf good golf i’m not sure if they played a soul home cup around there this morning many people would would have been better than five under no no I agree it just shows that I think in both the men’s and the women’s game there between the top level amateurs and the pros there’s not a huge amount of difference these days i think they’re so well you know taught now the coaching with all the technologies at another level and they get all the nutritional strength and conditioning psychologists yeah the word amateur now is not it doesn’t mean what it used to it used to be you had a career a business and you an occupation and you played golf you’re an amateur these are professional amateurs i would agree they’re 247 pouring everything into their golf that’s a lovely little spananiel maybe a cocker spananiel you’re the You’re the dog bird i do love a dog yeah I do i mean that it’s got a bit of spananiel about it certainly looking as it is may maybe a bit of something else in there they can run by the way you better have some space and some time if you got a cocka spananiel oh we have a cockaoo oh do you so a non-molar mhm very jumpy non-molar is it a boy or a girl a boy what have you called him well funny story on that one called Rio okay after I played in the Olympics in Rio and you know how a lot of players get a tattoo I thought I’d go for a dog called Rio instead let’s see this chip from O’Keefe before I add to that that was an unlucky little Very nicely played but an unlucky little kind of nudge on the grass yeah it was very good lot of check i was going to say maybe you got the dog and the tattoo i resisted the tattoo okay if it would have been a tattoo what would it have been well the Olympic rings okay right no four for O’Keefe and their opposition has a really makeable putt for yet another birdie which would be birdie number seven for the day and it’s windy m the wind is blowing across her putt and it’s going to be a factor in this looks like it’s going to come left to right at the end but the wind’s going to straighten out a little bit yeah can she get to two up for the first time in the match she can never in doubt very good if she can keep up this putting she’s going to be very tough to beat and you know sometimes when you say that you think it’s been a putting exhibition but actually it’s been a golfing exhibition oh it has she’s given herself the chances i mean these are birdie putts yeah i mean they’ve both given themselves They have good chances so that’s a big big move coming towards the end of the front nine now two up it’s important I think for O’Keefe that she wins the next hole the next one the score changes in her favor definitely i think especially with a match that’s been so close oh she just poured those two putts in she did and onto the eighth which is plays downhill this one plays back towards the clubhouse before you go back out to the ninth out to the to the bothorthy in the ice house for Sophie Miz already oh she had one little nip this this morning i think she’s probably going to go for three nips this afternoon before she hits the back nine i noticed the sunglasses went on very quickly after that absolutely mirrored ones as well you couldn’t see through them down off the right then for T-shots on the eighth yeah short eighth downwind only 352 going with that trusty 3-wood maybe just to leave herself a longer shot in see if she can get a bit of spin on the ball she’s got a wellworn glove that’s on when you played did putting a new glove on become a thing or could you just put it on it’s carry on no if I started with one glove I would tend to wear it for the whole tournament you kind of get it’s like a pair of shoes they just start they feel comfy yeah see that’s well worn that glove becomes like your friend like a pair of shoes yeah fits like a glove there you go driver for O’Keefe she launched that one downwind see it’s running on she’s got a nice bare lie in the rough there so getting a bit of purchase on the ball that’s not going to be a problem changing a luck into the sweet bag yeah she liked that drive here we go back down towards the clubhouse first hole well four and eight the two downwind ones on the front nine and that bunker we see not in play at all today downwind and they’ve just driven it right down there past that little bunker on the right and they’re just going to leave themselves a little short nearly pitches into this hole it’s all going to be whether you can control the spin get it to stop no rear guard bunkers mostly around here they’re all the troubles at the front seems to be what do you got Sophie well in terms of tactics we’ve seen something different paula laid up short of that bunker at 285 she’s got 101 yards pin well down the left hand side we’ve only got 52 yards to the flag for the American but this is a tough leave it’s downwind the lie is great but it’s like a turtle’s shell as you hit to this green so it all folds away short and left you’re going to have to nip this one perfect hope for a little bounce because we’ve got a front pin here only 10 on so it’s a lot more feel in this shot the hundred yard shot is just going to be that gap wedge a fuller shot so you can get more spin this one is going to take some creativity it’s like a horizon pitch from there you can’t see any of the putting surface very little of it once you get up onto the rise yeah really good explanation there from Sophie i think I prefer the 100 yard shot just to have a fuller shot in especially with a front pin down breeze short flags are problematic especially when link with link screens and and they’re fortunate here because we did get some over overnight rain and not maybe as hard as they might But I think when you get to within that 50 yards it’s do I bump and run it do I fly it all the way on you’ve got options you can maybe be undecided and I think we all know if you’re kind of undecided over your shot that can lead to poor poor execution well it’s not straightforward she’s taken her time over this one that looks like a lob wedge to me so this is going to be flat out pitch it 90 with the strong draft one big bounce and and come to a stop yes she’s aiming a long way right that was well played i think again that wasn’t where she was trying to pitch it she caught the UPS slope and it’s it stunned it i am still pining for the bumble along the floor run it up the slope and let it ease down towards the hole there somewhere i I’m I’m yearning for that i think you might need to keep yearning yes you’ve seen the the you’ve seen the flange on the back of that sandwich but if she puts it back in her stance enough and forces the ball flight down she can get it to skip up there i kind of think she’s looking to pitch this just in the front and bounce it up the bank no I think she’ll take the bank out of play she’s got to get this close playing it that way she’s got to be pinpoint accurate with her landing spot i’ll be back foot hands ahead drive it down skip a check or duff it i think that’s from indecision she was a little bit unsure she probably had the caddy saying should you you should play it low she was maybe wanting to hit it high and then just complete indecision but that’s the beauty of Lynx golf and the creativity it just it gives you it kind drives you mad as a golfer because it gives you so many options no but yes it does but it kind of tells you it’s it’s talking to you and it’s saying really this is the shot you should be hitting you can find other ways to do it but the great chippers Sevy Woods the people that were super inventive around the greens they they never up the ante they always hit the easiest most straightforward percentage shot every single time but I think what that in a way is what these players will learn we’ve got to remember they’re still they’re still only what 19 people understand they’re still learning their craft that’s why I think it’s so great the Americans are wanting to travel play more outside the US you become a better player well there’s a slope to navigate here for Farah O’Keefe and she’s not got loft in her hand this time she’s going to bat it up the slope and you know if you get this right no reason why she can’t knock it in we’ve had a chip in already very good try very good try not quite the birdie run of of this morning on the front nine not for the American it was a good attempt it’s quite steep up that first bit and then it’s going to turn from right to left that’s well judged gave it a chance didn’t go in move on san Pedro’s just hold two wonderful putts in the last two greens and has Andy another opportunity here yeah I love the way she puts and things are definitely leaning towards her at the moment don’t forget though O’Keefe came from four down with five to go yesterday against Tilly Claget but here’s a chance to go three up which would be a significant cushion leaves one short don’t think we’ve seen her leave one short when she’s missed it’s tended to be either side but O’Keefe hasn’t been ahead in the whole whole final i double checked that because I thought “No surely she has.” But the holes she’s won have always been to come back she’s only been level the best she’s been and this is to stay one down yeah well done powerless and Pedro she’s not doing nicy she looks the kindest person in the world when she’s walking around the golf course but she’s not doing nicy nicy it’s two feet i’ll see it in yeah this is the women’s amateur championship final this is this is serious stuff you can enjoy it and you can have fun but it’s it’s serious it’s significant the prizes are massive and I’m sure there are plenty of people tuning in from Spain and the USA of course but plenty of Spaniards watching us and after the next hole what 27 holes down we’ll be threequarters of the way through this final i bet Paula gets asked for ID when she goes to a bar with her friends there’s no question especially at college in the States id please so this is the ninth isn’t it ninth hole 27th hole of the final back up towards the halfway house the ice house in the distance there in the distance this way I mean oh she’s wearing that 3-wood out the second bunker down the right hand side is 220 to get past it nice shot good swing good swing very fluid the chip in a couple of holes cars enjoying that watching and listening to you and Katrina it was uh a great moment definitely one for the highlights reel she might be going a bit of timber here yeah nice and positive about it okay y still on that card okay 322 yds straight into the draft anywhere but right good hand back please let the players through thank you might have expected a bit more distance on that one put the two players next to each other on this ninth fairway well we’re enjoying a great final and we’re enjoying some uh great pictures from Nan Golf Club this week we can look in a bit more detail about how we’re bringing this tournament to you at home the Women’s Amateur Championship in order for us to send this amazing golf around the world we’ve got some new technology why because Nen Golf Club as beautiful as it is the mobile phone signal isn’t that great so in order to send our voices and the coverage to everybody watching at home we use live view and Starlink so we have to create our own internet and then live view will send it through satellites back to London in order for us to produce it and to send it out for everybody to watch without this technology it just wouldn’t happen so we’ve invested heavily in it in order to get those pictures to everyone else good stuff and well done to everybody on site helping bring this championship to the masses but yeah we’re getting into the serious end of things now particularly when we hit the turn get to turn 11 12 13 you start to get to a point where a player with a big cushion can think about having one hand on the trophy but the you know the huge comeback yesterday that that we witnessed is San Pedro i don’t think will be thinking about that huge comeback by O’Keefe at all she really won’t but of course O’Keefe will i always think two up is a really interesting place because if you go to three you absolutely in command you go back to one you might as well be all square it It’s the crossroad the tipping point is two up so on the ninth fairway of this women’s amateur championship final it’s going to be tough because I’m in front of San Pedro to hit first she was a Spanish amateur champion in 2022 she’s made good progression in this championship she made the last 32 in 2023 then the last 16 last year now here in the final so she’s grown and learned every time she’s come to play in this great event second shot trying to keep it down with a catel father through which she’s done go she’s saying voila decent decent effort so now O’Keefe with that Hookham logo on the notebook the logo of Texas University be as good as you look linewise it was all over it at least a club out thinking of San Pedro Rob but it’s great time for Spanish sport in general isn’t it both the men’s and women’s football teams at pretty much top of the tree carlos Alcarathas at Wimbledon and the tennis the grand slams incredible French Open final recently katrina tells us there’s a brilliant crop of Spanish amateur players coming through as well in golf not a bad time to be a Spanish sports fan and are you no okay just checking if I were I’d be yeah i I’ve been really impressed with both these players the demeanor though of San Pedro has been I think fantastic she’s kept that even looks like she’s not bothered pala for the entire day and I think and I’ll mention it again that her friend her bestie Paula Francisco has done a great job keeping her in the right place where she doesn’t get too high and doesn’t get too low and consequently when she’s got on the greens she has looked the more relaxed of the two with the putter yeah I completely agree i mean it’s interesting to think that uh O’Keefe has obviously picked up the local caddy but actually at this at this stage and I’m not suggesting she would have dropped him today for the final but for example she’s got her American teammates on the sidelines watching you could quite easily have said to Anna Davis Jasmine Coup you know come on the bag as and when you go out of this tournament and she she could be out there with one of her powers cadding it would have made an interesting difference but it seems as though she’s benefited yeah she’s benefited from having the local caddy but actually San Pedro seems to have benefited from having her power on the bag but only since the semi-final she was catting for herself before then i think we both thought that O’Keefe’s approach was going to end up much closer than it did when it came off the club face and watching it in the air that’s interest she She’s putted from this sort of distance leaving the pin in and she’s going again but this time taking the pin out i’m not sure what separates those two views two down playing the ninth or the 27th if you like the 27th hole of the final certainly not panic stations yet but knocking this one in would be a a cracking way to hit the turn he’s giving it a rattle oh what a putt sensational putt from O’Keefe game face on this time and what an impact that could have on this final i was waiting for a big smile there when she was on the walk once this went in at some speed I thought on the walk up she’s going to be laughing but she was not amazing putt to hold now I think the strength of the Spaniard’s game has been not making or looking like she’s going to make any mistakes so the American feels like she’s got to make it happen it’s not going to come to her great effort so from a good few feet closer San Pedro to half the hole all of a sudden and she’s not followed O’Keefe in so big move on the ninth o’keefe back to just one down as they go into the final nine holes of this final huge I would say because this morning Farah hit the driver at 10 to take it on different tactic for San Pedro and this is the tenthole 533 yds it’s nearly 300 yd to get past that last bunker so if you’re going to take a driver with this wind you’ve got to navigate your ball flight and the run through the middle of that horrible patch of fairway with the traps if you can do that then you can knock it on the green it was three-wood 3-wood 20 yards short for the Spanish player this morning interesting to see if they make the same hole choices again driver for the American three-wood for the Spaniard what a great final this has been we’ve got nine more holes to go maybe more of course we could go to extra holes if they’re tied at the end of 36 but you cannot predict how this is going to go at all [Music] been a great advert for amateur women’s golf yeah 100% really really really good yesterday as well not just today yesterday the quarterfinals semifinals alen Madson played really well at times katarina Dawn had her moment tilly Clag it was brilliant until until they got to about what 14 i think the RNA should be commended because they’ve this is giving a really good showcase over these two days of how good these young women are and I think fair play to the RNA they should be congratulated it’s been excellent there’s a uh now is that a kayaker looks like it yeah kayaker out there right in the center of your picture hard work out there today he must have arms like the Hulk if he’s making his way across there right so the all important club selection on the 10th T so I’m calling again the same club driver for the American three-wood for the Spaniard let’s have a look got the first one right and she threaded the gap between all three bunkers with a perfect drive she’s got to hit that again i don’t just mean this moment here Rob but do you think there’s been a shade less chat between the two of them today uh O’Keefe and Caddy um I I haven’t noticed that i think they’re you know they’re being friendly but they’re in their competitive bubble it’s not you know we’re great mates all the way around you can’t play like that certainly respect though and be ready to applaud the other player if they do something good this has got to be straight and well hit she loves it yeah she must be absolutely buzzing after that that’s just a magnificent T-OT and from there mid iron that’s all maybe even a five iron from there the American means business definitely and the same game plan again for the Spaniard threewood yeah we called it Rob so driver for the American and Threewood for the Spaniard that is concern is it no it can’t be great looked deadly serious for a moment then but uh just satisfaction two great drives great great drives especially in response to O’Keefe’s monster here that was very important for San Pedro to get it in the center of the fairway yeah I’m not sure she can reach the green from there but that’s the way she decided to play the hole completely in the balance isn’t it who’s going to win this title and all the prizes that come with it the big change was the change when two was the score which way was it going to go and for the American it’s fantastic news to get it back to one win one more hole and you’re level if she’d have gone three down then it’s a very different thing there’s no more holes after today this morning it felt like a an eternity to find out when we’re going to get the win but now holes are starting to run out as we get into the final back nine that was birdie number seven by the way for Farah O’Keefe in this final san Pedro has eight birdies and just the one bogey each so far after 27 holes of one of the biggest matches of their lives still breezy out there isn’t it well that right hand bunker is 270 y to the front and a little shy of that I think is the Spanish ball feels like the breeze is still picking up absolute cherry on the cake is if the sun would properly come out again for these last nine holes that would be nice but maybe we’re asking a bit too much the cherry is the lack of rain that’s the cherry this is great yeah signal signed from that pin that penant that’s absolutely horizontal a lot of help for the players hitting their seconds into this par five it’s actually quite hard from 260 odd yards 270 to the front to get a pin reading on those shot scopes range it’s It’s quite hard to find the pin when you get buffed san Pedro still trying to go Reed now she’s got a little bit of a downhill lie which is going to help the ball flight come out lower and runnier she absolutely clatters this out the middle she might get it on the green still a great standard from both players eight birdies today from San Pedro seven from O’Keefe only a bogey each just one bogey each the biggest match of their careers certainly right up there one of the biggest matches of their lives she hasn’t changed that club for a long long time and when you get a closeup of the face it’s it’s got a spot worn out where she strikes it every time i’d say it’s her favorite club seen so much of it two threewoods here to find the green if she really nails this would be super impressive it’s 280 plus from here now is it straight is it galloping oh it is it is that’s a fantastic shot really really top quality golf this phenomenal she’s only a little half pint and actually for all the fantastic chips and putts we’ve seen that’s that’s probably one of one of the shots of her week yeah I agree that really is brilliant walking all the way right then over to you Pharaoh Keefe you’ve hit a smashing drive but it’s what you do now that will really count after that effort from San Pedro this morning she was very unlucky she had a four iron straight at the pin it landed in that area just short of the green and it didn’t bound on like that one we just saw it checked up because she carried it further down and to where it’s more damp it’s probably five on from here looks quite an appealing target doesn’t it from this angle not with that ball there it’s not good point well made she’s 220ish the front she flies at 190 you would think it would gather momentum and bounce on but getting it straight is another matter okay how good is it it’s terrific it’s magnificent albatross oh well those are two shots you’ll never see again flat out 3-wood to the heart of the green and a five iron that nearly went in for a two on a par five they are spoiling us that is absolutely unbelievable special special shot here i thought it had a chance oh if they half in eagles I’m going home no fear is there there’s no fear whatsoever you see them starting to close in you because Do you know what’s great as well for all the fans the golf fans that have come here to watch this they’re seeing a proper show they’re really watching something special and did you see there her US teammates just walked across in front of her were all you know not quite high-fiving couldn’t get that close but all you know really ping her up there’s laughter again there they they realize everybody realizes watching this whether you’re a teammate a rival a spectator a viewer watching us here that this is this is special well this is really really good give them both a place give them both a place in the major i say do you know what it when we turned up here this morning 36 holes with two people it could have been very dull and it’s been the polar opposite of that it’s been enthralling and they should both be absolutely applauded and commended for the show of skill and golfing now that they’re putting on brilliant two young people highly fated bringing the goods so both players getting a well welldeserved round of applause as they approach the green i’m sure San Pedro would have even been saying good shot there to her opponent right calm down everyone let’s see what happens with these putts they can’t can they they can’t they surely can’t both put these in it’ll be the whole of their lives if they do it’ be the half of their lives as well one putt’s much easier than the other i know it’s shorter but it’s coming straight back up the green into the wind and it’s one you can be more aggressive on that’s the O’Keefe putt for the Eagle this one can start to run away as it gets to the cup downwind well she lost the previous hole to a birdie again that’s how it works in this final she’s got an eagle putt an eagle is the one thing we haven’t seen in this final yet from either player [Applause] birdie four might not be good enough terrific though really well done if she knocks this in it’ll be four holes with no halves i was just looking back two par fives from these two this morning that’s right not this afternoon and this is very holable hint of left to right in it back into the wind back up the hill absolutely fantastic sensational drive five iron and a putt for the Eagles to square the match match all square we’re applauding here in the commentary box that is great great golf yes in it goes she says and we’re back to all square i mean that’s the other thrilling thing about that we are back to all square with seven holes to go when we saw them toe-to-toe on the front line this morning that was hard into the breeze as it was this afternoon it it it felt like there was just nothing to separate the two players and here we are despite the fireworks it’s still all square o’keefe is now eight under eight under for the 28 holes as is San Pedro in fact sorry nine under for San Pedro so standard sensational pins 23 up here at the 11th six from the right edge new ball celebrate with a new ball i don’t know so I think when you make an eagle you don’t change the ball eagle ball you’re not going to put that away are you even if there was ears hanging off it going to play with it real real money well if she does go on to win she’ll remember the 10th hole for some time and it would definitely be a hole that Sophie would ask her about at the end unless there’s even better fireworks to come in the next seven holes or so there are the teammates with the uh the flower crowns that they were making at the end of the first round anna Davis there in the in the distance with the daisies 152 She’s three under for the last two holes go it’s okay it’s stalled into that breeze half a club out between seven and six i think with this wind you’ve got to hit at least six right for briefly in this match she had complete control two up looking good going in her favor that’s disappeared evaporated now she’s got to start again this is flailed right stalling in the wind the line looks okay and it’s definitely chip and putable from there but little ragged as a as a neutral it would be interesting to see San Pedro go behind and see how she reacted because we’ve seen O’Keefe behind on a number of occasions not just today in the final but yesterday especially in the semi and she seems to play better when she’s behind she made a more committed job when she was chasing than when she was trying to fend off in the quarterfinals [Music] so San Pedro just up there on the uh on the right hand side [Music] well I hope you’re enjoying this at home how can you not be [Music] next year’s Women’s Amateur Championship at Mulefield if this has made you think “Oh I want to go next year.” where you’ll have to get yourself up to Mufield [Music] if you just want to see more amateur match play golf in the British Isles then the men’s amateur next week at Royal St george’s playing across Royal St george’s and Royal Sank Ports but the closing stages will be at RSG katrina Matthews back in the commentary box with me and Katrina this just gets better and better and better doesn’t it what a couple of holes we’ve just seen my goodness sorry what a couple of of holes we’ve just seen birdie Eagle back to all square that 10th hole was something else it really was it was god all four shots anything could happen in the next couple of hours interesting little chip down here just out the rough take the slope out landed on the green looks like it’s lying nicely and beautifully played her chipping especially this afternoon has been topnotch [Music] and now Keith now a longish birdie putt but a putt to go one up and for the first time in the match would be in ahead she stood up on it stood up off it quite early on in the ball’s progress to the hole but that’s decent that’s safe let’s see what happens here will either putt be given both putts be given doesn’t look like it yeah Keith obviously maybe just a little bit further away than it looked on the camera angle i don’t think at this stage eight holes to go we’re going to get a good good you can’t take your eyes off this one so for a power putt and to put the pressure on San Pedro very good nice three and she has given the San Pedro putt so well good sportsmanship from O’Keefe she didn’t have to do that but I don’t think the Spaniard would have missed from there anyway so the 12th is done and dusted all square after 29 holes seven to go although at this point in proceedings who knows how many holes we may play extra holes would be short odds yeah the 12th par4 412 yds there we see on the hole marker downwind though it’ll play shorter you’ve got two bunkers in the middle of the fairway and they’re only 216 to carry them so not a problem for either of these players the big bopper is out again for O’Keefe she likes it the crowd like it oh what a bounce that got about an extra 50 yards of roll sometimes with humps and hollows if you just get a down slope it’s amazing how you can shoot forward get an extra 20 yards action replay by the sounds of it by the looks of it not quite the huge leap forward from the bounce but as long as I think that’s okay just stop short of the long stuff can see the ball nicely this is fantastic the final of the women’s amateur championship getting better and better and better well they set such a high bar this morning in terms of standard of play and despite the harder conditions on this second 18 it’s just as good just as enthralling now here we go katrina Matthew next to me do you know what we’ve got a graphic lined up and ready to tell people and remind you I’ll leave you to talk I’ll leave you to talk through this one shall I no I think we can talk through it Andy the one thing not on here of course is your win in this very championship in 1993 which was at Li and St ans and then you went on and won the the British Open there in in 2009 of course I’m obviously very fond of Royal Lither and St ans absolutely and then Soulheim Cup teams non-playing captain and of course last year Curtis Cup captain at at Sunningale and next year’s Curtis Cup over in the States tell us about Bair Country Club where that’s going to be and and how far out how far out do you start really preparing i know you’re going to be watching and and and thinking about it all the time but when to kind of intense preparation yeah um obviously Bair hopefully go out and see the venue towards the end of the year but in California Los Angeles um I’ve been going to their kind of historic well-known golf courses so really looking forward to seeing it um you know obviously this year I’ve been keeping an eye on all the players um looking at the results and all the college golf and watch the the summer of golf in Europe but um yeah definitely go out to a few events next year see some of the players playing and uh we’ll have a bit of a new team next year a few of our the players most quite a lot of the team from last year have already turned pro so um it’s exciting seeing the youngsters we’ve got a nice little crop of players coming up so uh yeah myself uh Katherine Emery Karen Stuffles are helping me again next year we’ll be all keeping an eye on them and seeing what’s happening well it’s been a fantastic career and it kind of all started here at this championship on the left hand side of 12 with Paulo Martin San Pedro’s golf ball she’s got 105 yards to the front edge 121 to the pin straight downwind can’t see the green the bunker’s blocking her out but the lie it’s a touch flyery so you want to be keeping it left of this pin and hit a wedge play it safe don’t get that jumper thanks very much Sophie great stuff out there on the course and you can’t take your eyes off this match at the moment it’s uh completely enthralling and they’re keeping up an incredible standard they really are yeah there a whole art even just that little bit of rough i know it doesn’t look much if you’re just looking at it through the the TV screens but just that little bit of rough can make such a difference you learn how to think the more times you you play out of lies like that you learn to judge whether you’re going to get a flyer or not both players the equivalent of eight under par if we were playing stroke play we’ve only had one bogey a piece yeah short iron in just 121 yards as Sophie said but even with this short distance coming from that rough I think she does have to just go more center of the green a little bit of an ups slope at the front of this green so just got to be aware of that careful of it now is it just going to hold on there yeah just tugged it a little i think she was aiming middle of the green just tucked it a little bit it’s interesting because you would think that tension will really start to build over these next few holes but the demeanor of both players watching them over the last few days i mean I know in particular O’Keefe had a roller coaster yesterday because in the quarterfinal it looked like she was easing through suddenly crumbled a bit semi-final completely the opposite looked like she was going home somehow came back to win but today I’m just not sure the tension is going to really It looks like they’re both kind of you know playing in quite a calm fashion they’re both a bit more serious than they were earlier it will be interesting to see if the pressure gets to either of them in these closing holes it will be um I think you know both Keith’s matches this morning she was well up in one yesterday and then well down in one this one’s been kind of nip and tuck the whole way so I think she just makes a little bit of a difference they’re both playing great golf she still hasn’t been ahead at any point in this final the only time you really need to be ahead is right at the end though good chance here to get one in close she got a bit of a jumper oh nicely played setting up another good birdie chance there she’s come out on fire on this back nine looking to go birdie eagle par birdie it’s going to be interesting to see how San Pedro responds if she does go one down never been down in this match yet what a nice confirmation look of the of the standard of scoring just one bogey each so far in this final and in these conditions the it is windy um playing in a in the final under that tension crowds watching TV cameras on you just shows the the standard of the golf worth reminding you that the winner will get exemptions to the Evian Championship at France the AIG Women’s Open at Royal Pool this year in Wales that starts on the 31st of July next year’s US Women’s Open at the Riviera Country Club in LA and the Chevron Championship next year in Texas in O’Keefe’s home state of Texas these two would have already qualified anyway for the Anoir the amateur championship at Augusta and the winner will also be invited to play in an event on the Ladies European tour so there there is there is a lot at stake so much at stake here there certainly is isn’t there pourth call for the AIG Women’s Open and then Riviera my goodness what a historic course and I’ve watched a lot of the men’s events played there i’m sure it’s lovely in the background isn’t it not a huge amount of break in this back across about the whole width of the green her speed controls been exemplary so far and another one very good should be good enough for a par for the Spaniard but can the American get ahead in this final for the very first time with a birdie and just when you want to start edging ahead when the holes are starting to run out up and over that ridge yeah very good chance here after the bomb she holding nine the good one on 10 to go one up and get our first lead in this 36 hole final she hit it oh [Applause] that’s a painful one isn’t it had the line it’s amazing how when you hit a putt if they’re short they always seem to be online no move to pick up the marker of San Pedro so making the Spaniard put out yeah gave her the one and the last making her putt this one all well within the rules nicely done just keep your opponent guessing 30 holes 30 holes you can’t can’t separate them and this is the ninth round they’ve played competitive as as I think you mentioned Katrina earlier practice rounds on top as well they must have gone round here at least 10 maybe more 11 times perhaps 11 rounds since Monday lovely with the sun glistening off the hills in the background there yeah and the 13th here the par4 397 yds back up the hill you play away from the Murray FTH you’ve got It’s certainly not been easy today has it no but if they’ve played you know 11 rounds here this week let’s say for example since Monday that’s like 200 holes they’ve played it’s an incredible mental test and and it really means that the winner of this championship has been tested in every possible way and this is the play of Keith’s had on this hole just the iron off the tea to keep short of the bunker down the left at 242 and done that nicely this is the hole that comes back up goes back up the hill yes a difficult second shot back up the hill to green you can’t really see the bottom off looks like the trusty 3-wood well everybody seemed happy with that one quite rightly so so two great drives on this 13th hole two pars this morning from these two players they would love a birdie if they possibly can meanwhile as we watch look at the hordes of hordes of spectators coming towards us that’s fantastic sophie’s caught up with some of the locals i’m here with John Jim Jackie and Lorna now you’ve been out here watching this final it’s quite amazing the standard isn’t it Lorna it’s absolutely excellent they’re both playing so well what about the chipping did you see that one fabulous i’ve had that trip many of the time and taken more than that to get down no it’s been great they’re highly skilled girls they really are fabulous and have you enjoyed having this tournament up in and seeing all of this wonderful golf absolutely i mean the they’ve been working on the course for many months to prepare it and this has been watched worldwide and it’s great advert for the club wonderful advert for the club well thank you for all coming out and supporting these players i’m sure they’re enjoying putting on a show and having you all clap there’s nothing between them they’re just you can’t choose a winner there both deserve to win excellent standard of golf great stuff we’ve been watching you you’ve been good all week they’re just loving everything about the golf where are you from lancasher how much has Sophie paid them to say that well they’re having a great time aren’t they and it’s good to see so many spectators out there let’s have a closer look at this 13th hole as as we said Katrina this one the only real elevation on this course it is really isn’t it yeah this hole in the next hole back away from the Murray FTH playing back up the hill they’ve both just laid up short of that bunker we can see which was 242 off the hole off the tea but then it leaves you quite a long second shot back up the hill playing about a club uphill and the pin today is just 7 yds on and eight from the left and as we saw this morning you got to be really careful of that little false front got to make sure you get over that so two big hits required here to get up up and onto the green we know that O’Keefe has all the power required here she’s had eight top 10 finishes in college events over in the States since September played in the Arnold Palmer Cup last week and I would have thought that mom and dad Marlene and Michael brother Elias will be watching back at home yeah back up the hill five iron just got to hit enough to cover that false front oh keep coming come on oh she just pushed it out a little bit to the right you see that running back down still going is it going to stop might go right oh that was unlucky that’s gone right back down that’s a good probably 20 yards now back down the hill trying to smile through the pain there no Keith so it’s San Pedro’s turn now coming in with the wood she came up short this morning let’s see if she can maybe take one more club make sure she gets it up oh what a shot a little bit unlucky just to hop over that kind of ridge just up onto the upper level but a good shot coming in with a coming in with a fivewood found every every last drop of strength there didn’t she to get that one up that’s the beauty isn’t it off the tea you can lay up to take the bunker out of play but then it leaves you that long shot in if you take the bunker on with driver you’re if you hit a good one you’re then you know rewarded with a shorter iron in well this is superb isn’t it for everyone involved for golf club for the RNA just looking down this 13th fairway and seeing an army of spectators walking up with this group with this duo who have treated us to a fantastic exhibition of golf it has to be said they have indeed and hopefully those black clouds will and stay away in the distance but we can just see O’Keefe Stall there it’s run down that first ridge and then down the second one so she’s going to have 20 yards back up the hill oh to have the energy of youth eh running up the hill getting his fitness in maybe just trying to keep up with Sophie there maybe she’s already jogged up and you can just see the steepness of the hill you can see them walking up there yeah often on TV you you can’t tell the differences in elevation but you absolutely can here and quite different as you said from the rest of the the rest of the golf course somewhere in amongst that group of people wandering up is encourse reporter Sophie Walker after speaking to some of your biggest fans there Sophie just give us a sense of of the atmosphere in amongst the galleries i think Sophie’s maybe run up that hill and she’s out of puff we might come back to her she’s gone koi on us Sophie but we’ll have a go at that again in a few moments time o’keefe here then down at the bottom of this ridge as I said difference of a couple of couple of feet at most and she would have been up on the green closer to the pin than her opponent but that that’s golf that is Link’s golf for you yeah so she’s just going to throw this up she’s got seven yards of green to work with and these will be the these are the kind of shots you know as top amateurs professionals you you practice a lot you’ll know she’ll know kind of what length of swing to what feel to have to get this ball to go about 25 yards she’s probably going to want to land it oh and she just got that one a wee bit heavy you could see that the amount of divot she got with it i don’t think that might go all the way back down to her feet but ouch we’ve all been there haven’t we we’ve all been there she was trying to be so precise i think we’ve not all been there in the final of an amate championship i thought about using the back stop oh that’s a shame but it’s as we say it’s very easy standing here sitting here sorry and golf can be a cruel game you’ve hit that shot and kind of duffed it a little bit and what does it do gives you the same shot again well what it does mean is this one has to go very close if possible yeah she has to try and get this close and force San Pedro to at least two putt wow she’s used the back stop there this could be amazing very good not quite sure intended that i felt she got that a little on the clean side but it’s worked out very well yeah for a second it looked like it was going to stop dead didn’t it up at the top of the hill okay well she’s done what she needed to do there which actually is really commendable so she is forcing San Pedro to And she’s not got the easiest of putts she went up onto that top level so she’s going to have to kind of putt across the slope and then let it run down the slope that we just saw O’Keefe’s ball come back on but San Pedro can get her nose in front again here just going to have a big break left to right she’s going to have to just play this out to the left to the top of the hill and then let it run down to the hole she’s got two to win it doesn’t have to do anything spectacular here just wants it to stop and then run down that was a very good cut very well thought out virtually a right angle there wasn’t it her putting has been absolutely superb and now this little short putt to get back to one up she’d make this 99 times out of 100 this week maybe even 100 times out of 100 can she do it now in the heat of battle of course of course she can and the little fist pump you can tell we’re getting down to the nitty-gritty of this match now we really are five holes to go one up it’s a slim cushion but it’s a cushion and we’re on to the tough par three 14th back down the hill 199 yds got a little bit of help with the wind today though so probably not playing quite so far and a false front here got to try and get it up onto the green the pins just nine yards on and eight from the right hand side just a nice solid probably mid iron middle of the green no Spanish winner of this event for 16 years bit too early to be talking along those lines yet but the way this match has been going I think so but it’s a fact it’s a fact that’s edging closer to the finish line though aren’t we absolutely i think at this stage every shot every hole just takes on that extra significance she could really turn the screw here after going one up by putting this close so just at at that lone tree you can see perfect line oh she didn’t get her little draw on that one but at least carried the bunkers it’s trickling off going to have a little bit of green to work with though but again a little opening for O’Keefe in a match where there have been so few mistakes that that has to go down as one aim at the trees right in front of you that looks a better line looks nice very good shots just going to stay up on that level yes very good [Music] well this is all set for a thrilling conclusion it’s been brilliant all the way the women’s amateur championship final so a steep downhill slope for them all trolley’s got a life of its own just like that cheese rolling caddy just let let the trolley go on its own there’s that town in England where they race down anyway that’s a bit of a tangent this is this this is actually really significant because San Pedro was never behind in that first 18 and as we flick through to the uh second 18 it’s been a pretty similar story o’keefe has always been the one having to come back stay in touch come back from a deficit you can see O’Keefe has never been ahead in this final despite all her brilliant play and two ups been the the most San Pedro’s ever managed to get up hundreds of people probably it keeps growing you keep talking Katrina and I’m going to do a bit of counting here because that I might need to talk for a while there’s so many to count and I’m sure there’s plenty more waiting near the clubhouse at the 18th green we can just see San Pedro’s ball there that she’s walking to the way she’s been chipping this afternoon this should be fairly straightforward the wind is still there isn’t it it’s still a bit blowy we’ve not had awful conditions at all over the last couple of days but the breeze is still knocking about so Nan Golf Club looking a picture on this Sunday afternoon the final of the women’s amateur championship if you’re just joining us you’ve missed a cracker but stay with us now because these last few holes could be wonderful pa Martin San Pedro of Spain is one up on Farah O’Keefe of the USA with five holes to go this is San Pedro off the side of the green just left herself a little bit more she’s been so so good at pace control with these chips around the green this is as prestigious as it gets in the amateur game keith now with a a birdie putt to get back to all square you can just see her marker there she just stayed on that top level so he’s going to break a little bit left to right a variety of vantage points well we’re looking right over O’Keefe’s shoulder here aren’t we down to the hole yeah maybe even a fraction of a double breaker here it’s drifting right back drifting right and not coming back and run on a little bit yeah that’ll be further than it looks from here won’t be conceded it’s been such a good match you’d hate to be it kind of maybe decided on missed short putts so hopefully they’ll both knock them in yeah you want the match to be won positively don’t you not by a mistake or something like that san Pedro’s been very solid over these kind of fivefooters today all been going in with pace right in the middle and another one very good i don’t know how many times I’ve shaken my head in wonder at her putting today i It’s uh It’s quite a count she is She is such a good putter so to have the hole and stay just one down oh oh no oh what a shame for O’Keefe exactly what you were saying just now Katrina you wouldn’t want a match as good as this to be decided on a missed putt like that of course that’s not the end of the final by any means but two down with four to play is significant yeah that was a a real body blow just pushed it slightly sorry just as you get I mean these kind of four five footers as you get closer to the end of a match do just start getting a little bit more difficult it’s worth saying again though yesterday in the semiinal Faroh Keefe was four down with five holes to play came back to win that match on the first extra hole so this is a walk in the park compared to that having said that this is the final and there’s a lot of pressure now that that that was a shame it has to be said and she needs to just erase that from shake that off yeah definitely another good good shot off this T short par4 set up a good birdie chance it’ll be interesting to see if San Pedro should laid up yet this morning but dropped into the bunker so got two clubs back with her i might just go with a shorter one if you’re going to lay up lay up it’s just a short par4 this 15 303 yds but you’ve got two bunkers down the right and one down the left that are kind of all in range with driver 3wood but you can’t carry them so both these players have opted to lay up short i mean in fairness to San Pedro although she was given the whole bioke putt there her own pitch and then yet another solid putt you know she did exactly what she needed to do as well for her bit of the equation she’s looking at it long and hard yeah I went with a club less so even though she’s missed right like she did this morning but she’s kept it short of the bunker there we see another example of how the friendship between the two powers is really helping San Pedro i think just keeping her left not just calm but happy being able to share a giggle about something yeah left of the flag yeah one hand okay okay he’s coming that way keith here going with the driver feeling she has to do something two down with four to go taking on these bunkers let’s see if she can thread it down between them get it close to the green oh that’s run off very good drive there nice little run on can Farah O’Keefe mount another comeback here at the Women’s Amateur Championship and that was a great drive from O’Keefe changed her game plan two down with four to go decided to be more aggressive go with the driver and it’s paid off she ripped one down the middle just short of the green so San Pedro just down the right side but kept it out the bunker this time let’s maybe see if Sophie’s caught up with the ball and can tell us about the lie and what she’s got i’m up by the green so I’ve got O’Keefe’s ball paula Martin San Pedro she’s just got inside 100 yards but like you said she has made sure that she has not gone in that bunker o’keefe’s got some mounding to contend with the lie is pretty good she wants to land it a couple of yards short of that green but that three put it really pressed her to hit driver and she’s hit a good one here down the 15th i’ll leave you for a little bit be look what happens i mean I had it beautifully balanced all square two quick wins still not over though it isn’t it just shows the the kind of grittiness I think of a Keith that she’s had a three putter on the previous green changed her game plan gone with driver and hit a really good shot that wasn’t an easy drive to thread it between those bunkers it’s almost like she pushed all the chips in well the American’s got to make three from where she is she has to make a three absolutely two down four to go she’s in prime position to make a three she obviously can’t control what her opponent does but she’s definitely put the pressure on this second shot the Spaniard’s going to remain controlled and play blemish free golf over the closing holes that’s what she’s going to try and do which means to at least end up all square the American will have to be two under for the last few holes tough call but we saw that from Tilly Claget yesterday she had the match against a Keith kind of under control let’s see if she can get this one in punched it in with a wedge great shot great shot very good but she’s going to have to put to half the hole worse ways and keep things very much in her favor shame somebody has to lose really it has been such a high quality game they’ve been so good nip and tuck the whole way but a Keith now she’s got to be thinking she’s got to hold it give it put it into kind of two three feet she said something interesting yesterday that she has a history of coming back in junior championships from being in what looks like a very grim position over the closing holes and she’s done it more than once she did it yesterday and she’s going to reach down into the well once more it’s kind of like in stroke play some people are better front runners others are better coming from behind i think she’s going to pitch this around about where the green cut starts and just let it tumble down to the hole take the mounds out of play it’s very good very good very nice gave it a chance but still close yeah classy shot classy drive as well by the way so she’s not done no San Pedro can’t afford to slip no she’s got to keep her foot on the pedal so to speak so both players there in two She’s got to hope that she has that putt to get a hold back and for San Pedro it’s she’s thinking if she holds this I’ve I’ve got one hand on the trophy i’ve nearly buried her yeah it’s not a putt for the championship but it’s not far off just got the edge oh that must have looked pretty good you know there’s a lot of tension out there cuz that’s the first react reaction we’ve had from the two girls wasn’t a smile correct even on their bad shots before there’s always been a smile first time they know how important these putts are now and it’s coming down to where this is a must make the hold is right in between the two Spanish players oh that hurts that hurts all the hard work she did there taking the gamble and hitting the driver hitting a great pitch get out and you have you have to say that those last two putts really nerves those last two little short misses i mean they’re not gimmies no it’s it’s four feet and yes it’s not a gimme particularly both players know what the goodies at stake here for winning it’s colossal if you’re staying amateur for at least another 12 months it’s it’s like winning the lottery you’re going to play in things you might get drawn with Nelly Cordur there’s all sorts of Oh it’s just the difference between winning and losing this is it’s a chasm that opportunity to play with players you’ve looked up to you’ve watched yeah and you’ll get huge draws as the winner of the women’s amateur you’ll be in the big with the big players in the world in the pro ranks anyway two up with three to go to play the 16th par four downwind no fairway bunkers just that on the right we were saying you’ve just got to watch we’ve seen a lot of people just in that lefthand rough and I’d be very surprised if San Pedro’s not in the left hand rough she’s just going to she’s just got to keep this ball in play give herself a shot to the right side of this hole does not exist ripped it absolutely perfect split the fairway what a shot what a swing well done right she’s running out of options nice strong that’s her best another one ripped down she’s a runner she’s a rockar perfect she is a rockar that that’s that is rocking it way down there that’s 40 past that little fan is loving it but it’s 400 yds a shade shy of and it’s down breeze so it’s not playing anything like that the key thing is to find the fairway they’ve both done it and the Spaniard gets to impose her will on the American because she’s going first into this par fourth i think the difficult thing now for a Keith is she’s got to try and shake off those sorry two short miss putts don’t forget the upcoming events the amateur championship that is going to be sensational down in the south of England June 16 to 21 then the 15th 51st no 53rd rather open championship can’t wait to go there that’s going to be absolutely unbelievable on the island of Ireland and then the AIG Women’s Open which you’ll be looking forward to i will be yeah down there commentating on that one fourth call not been there since there was an amateur really looking forward to seeing the golf course again have you played Port Rush by the way i haven’t i’ve only played one hole at Port Rush one hole i did an outing there the other 17 are very good yes and then the Walker Cup in September yes cypress Point what a lineup eh what a lineup lineup of tournaments and a lineup of venues yeah you can really see the difference there in the in the distance oh Keith really buttoned that one i can’t see any way out of this for her unless she birdies at least two of the last three holes yeah potentially all three of 18 being a reachable par five maybe all three she’s got to have the last three holes of her life yeah absolutely she’ll never get this opportunity again sophie what do you got we have two perfect drives i’m here with Paula she’s got 122 yards to the pin on the left bit of a sucker pin this if you turn it down the left it misses the green and catches the bank o’ke has ripped one down here she’s 30 yards in front but the issue has been all day that the Spanish is playing in first and hitting great shots and the American has got to respond she needs something special with three holes left to play i think we’re all thinking the same keith needs something special last holes of par five the first thing she’s got to do is get it to the 18th hole so she’s going to she has to birdie here has to birdie 16 she’s hit such a good drive again and that’s just hoping that San Pedro doesn’t burn that’s right san Pedro can close her out here yep she’s definitely in the driver’s seat 120 yards downwind probably just a little wedge a little bit off a wedge yeah she’s probably going to carry it 110 something like that 112 get a big bounce down the breeze and then stop eventually i think she’s still got to stay aggressive even though she’s two up with three to go she knows what a good player of Keith is yeah she she her in her mind it’s birdie here and shake hands in her head might even just be her gap wedge she’s going with here she plays with a lot of poise she does maybe just the left side of that cart she does like a slight little draw that was a hand off it’s no harm done but you wouldn’t think that’s three country there no not ideal from that distance she would have wanted to put a little bit more pressure on O’Keefe’s shot i don’t know if she got that little skinny or something cuz she took a hand off it wasn’t a you know that’s my postured finish it wasn’t one of those i wonder whether she was just trying to hit that maybe just too hard and caught it a little thin well I wouldn’t say the doors a jar two down with three to play but there is a chance here get a hold back she’s got a glimmer she’s now thinking she’s going to be thinking San Pedro’s probably not going to make birdie going to make par but not birdie so she’s got a chance if she can hit a good shot in here ting okay yeah you’re ting okay she wriggled out of danger very similar situation in the semi-final she’s got to do it one more time i’ll be your best shot should be disappointed with that 90 yards should have wanted to get that probably in within about 10 12 ft little uphill to start with and then the second half of the putt back into the breeze it’s going to play slower than it actually is but after missing two shorter ones maybe the longer one should be a little bit freer on perhaps not expecting to hold it quite so much it’s a throng now yeah it sure is all modes of transport he’s got his little favorite toy on the back lowmaintenance dog now what breed was that one uh not sure she’s chipped beautifully this whole final and she’s going again with a a lofted wedge this is a situation though you have to go with what feels most comfortable and she’s chipped well with this but she’ll spend weeks and weeks and weeks and months and months and months in the States never hitting chip and runs never doing it I can guarantee you however good a chipper she is she would rather have been putting on the green let’s see that’s too strong just a testy distance y the wind just putting across the wind everything’s gone you know when when we’re down the edge of my seat we’re down to Defcon one here there’s no room there’s no squeaking room at all keith has to imagine that her opponent’s going to make four she has to hold it absolutely she’s got to think back to that hole the putt she hold on nine 10 exactly forget about the two she’s just missed and to your point that you’ve made through the week is speed is everything here yeah sometimes people are you know really desperate to make it they hit it too hard they feel I’ve got to get it to the hole and they just blast it through any break well this is to reduce the deficit for sure to just one two holes to play hit your best putt i think that was just a mystery that was a good good part everything was fine about that yeah bar Reed over borrowed and would be very irritated with the second shot in there not what she wanted still a bit of work to do there’s still a bit of work but we’ve seen O’Keefe hit so many good wedge shots from that sort of distance and we’ve seen San Pedro hold so many three or four footers without touching the side but none of them like this one no none with this significance with two to play in the final if it goes in she doesn’t waste much time gets in there and executes fantastic very good nerves of steel she’s just edging ever closer keeps her head absolutely still a little look and pure as you like and right in the middle none are hitting the edges and going in very impressive you know if there was going to be a wrinkle it might have been there but in her own quiet polite determined way she’s been superb yeah and we’re seeing the odd little fist pump now she knows what it all means and here we are the 17th short par4 357 yds we saw them both lay up short of those two bunkers we’re just seeing now will Oke Keith perhaps go for it now try and get past the bunkers give herself a shorter shot in i don’t think there’s I don’t believe so i don’t think there’s any value in her trying to get it between the bunkers and the water hazard i don’t and the pin here in the screen the front two bunkers not really in play with the pin 20 yards on five from the left [Music] it’s 250 over the one on the right i mean she she would have to but she would have to flush it but you know she left herself with a half at the previous hole and all right then didn’t make the most of it so maybe a fuller wedge for her is going to be better and bunker avoidance is Yeah if you go in the bunker you know it’s the whole game for her here yeah wait is this the I mean I think for San Pedro absolutely no doubt just take the bunkers out of play path for San Pedro means birdie birdie for the American to go extra time when you need to make two birdies in a row it’s hard to do yeah I know Keith yes you’re right just taking the iron little hybrid for her weakest wood on the tea for the player that’s two upside one hand on the trophy absolutely but only one yeah and that second bunker down the left 256 so that’s the one they’re just going to keep it short of the one on the right’s 240 she got a simple swing two very neat and tidy two turns in a swish it’s a bit like you really not much can go wrong with it very nice very nice and accomplished [Applause] and I love the way she’s just kept her quick routine just getting up over the putts over the shots that’s gone 20 further down there than she thought it would but it’s fine it was that good birdie you would think essential absolutely for a Keith she’s been excellent with these long irons off the tea and another good one come back well for the first time in a long time she’s going to have the first approach in which might be to her advantage maybe so it’s been an exhibition I think from both players and if O’Keefe does lose the final here she can be very proud of what she’s done and how she’s conducted herself and how she’s stayed in the game and been resilient it may not quite be enough yeah she can be but I mean as a player she’s going to be kicking herself thinking of those two short putts but you know after time you know you look back and look at all the good good shots she hit and there’s a reason that somebody wins isn’t there there’s always a reason aar Muno you’ll know her well i know her well i partnered her in her first Sawheim Cup at Colleen Castle excellent player gosh I remember that Colleen Castle that was an amazing finish yeah that was one we should never have won we never ever won yeah we had an amazing singles on the Sunday well they’ve been chatty chatty for 34 holes they have been and they’re still going now was it Love Island their favorite show maybe they’ve been chatting about Love Island i think uh those alongside you decided that Long Island was the the go-to show but you know they’re young aren’t they they’re they’re college kids their whole golfing life is in front of them and for her it may well be as the amateur champion this year it’s looking more and more likely it’s looking more and more it is looking more and more likely it needs one really good shot here from O’Keefe so what she must say to herself San Pedro is I’ve got birdie here to be the champion forget what the American players doing i make a birdie i’m the champion end of create your own history make your own luck and for O’Keefe she’s just just got to hit again the right approach shot and hold a putt from somewhere absolutely she’s got to hit the best wedge 100 yards she’s got to hit the best kind of wedge of her life here but she isn’t easy firm green downwind tough to judge just quite how it’s going to release yeah if it’s pitch and plug you know Parkland golf you can just let it slope around okay a little bit of spin will take it down okay more elements to think about isn’t it the wind the bounce yeah release lack of grip more grip let’s see if she can get it right this time she’d love to shove it into her foot straight downwind not bias on any side right behind her she’s eyeing this one up is it going to check just with the strength of the wind stopped that checking she thought that looked good it was a good swing it was It was 15 yards too far through the air the way that released down the green barely any purchase at all no didn’t just get any check now San Pedro just middle of the green how far she got Sophie 97 yards but there is a bunker in front of the green the carry on that is 87 yards and you can hit a down slope so like you’ve been saying take it right of it it’s a good two club wind up there you’ve got plenty of room right of this pin that’s your chance to get it in pin high if you go at the pin you could catch down slope and run through 97 y lob wedge was a shot so with a tight line on the fairway and all the groove that she could get on that she still couldn’t get any check on it but a good shot that was a proper Lynx green reaction there looked it was wanting to check but it just didn’t yeah you could see the ball just trying it was trying but it wouldn’t it’s still a healthy breeze blowing down the last couple of holes can’t see wind and sometimes when you’re sat at home watching you can’t feel how strong it is but it’s there i never think watching on television shows how strong the wind is but unless of Keith chips in here San Pedro is going to have two putts for it yeah her situation could be very clear in about 5 minutes time [Applause] i would think the putt is coming out for the Americans and for San Pedro she is so close it’s not immortality but it’s a name in the record books with a big one it is isn’t it i mean amateur golf this is you’re this is the pinnacle you’re at the top these are the events you want to play in the ones you want to win and as we’ve been saying you just see the names of the people who have won it carlottus Saganda Aahinos Georgia Hall Leona Maguire Nordquist wasn’t even a choice the putt is in the hand very quickly move it to the What are the chances though of making a putt back up the green into the wind and you have to hold it to go down the path what What are the chances if you were a bookmaker pretty slim 50 to1 i would say potentially even 100 to one i would have to say the stats would probably show you’ve got what about a 5% 2% chance of holding one of these but you never know golf is a very very intriguing game and you’re always surprised by it this has to go in you would think disappointing yeah it was a tough part long distance back into the wind and now it’s a simple equation it’s two putts for San Pedro to become the amateur champion and she’s had such good speed control today can she do it one more time it’s all she needs yes she has and she’s been her whole game has been utterly competent all of it and factor into that as well her game planning the way she’s taken on some of the holes negated a lot of risk she’s been excellent how she would love to just roll this up to a foot and that’s that that’s not a concession for It’s not a concession but I think she’ll be if O’Keefe holds she’ll make her putt it well she looks cool there but there’s a lot of churn going on yeah her mind’s got to be racing yeah I I’ve almost got it a little closer absolutely i’ve almost done it this has got to go in otherwise it’s congratulation time this and a prayer for O’Keefe good putt make her hold a putt to win she hasn’t looked like missing one of these she She has been as good as anybody from the s inside 5 foot range and I mean anybody in the world she hasn’t taken anything but the middle of the hole out one more time fully expect this to go in what a moment fantastic fantastic won it like a champion she did fantastic match hats off to both players but completely gosh what a final it was a fitting end on a wonderful location to a brilliant championship nine rounds of gold to eventually come out in front with her bestie on the bag for the the last two yeah since the quarterfinals look at that those smiles have barely left their faces smiles and tears I think yep oh it’s incredible for both women what a moment i think it’ll take a while to sink in all the exemption she’s getting oh I think tournament she’s going to get to play in i think it’s a a lot of that stuff you don’t you don’t get too into that when you’re playing it you kind if I get there okay I’ll look at it then but there’s a lot of gravy and well played the Americans team America yeah team America have been great this year i think it’s fantastic to see them over here playing elevates the whole event it does and and Farah Keith has taken this very well she’s given her very best and and came up a smidgen shy that’s all she certainly didn’t lose it san Pedro I would say I mean the golf they both played yeah they could barely be separated over 36 holes well let’s hear from the champion now talking to Sophie Paula Martin San Pedro the women’s amateur champion 2025 that was one of the most outstanding finals we’ve ever witnessed what was it like to play and win yeah it was i knew it was going to be super tied with Farah uh she’s a great player she’s been playing solidly and today we got a great day some wins so uh Link’s golf challenge was which is always super fun and I feel like we both play super good i I think we made just like a couple bogeies each which is like insane in this conditions and it came down to like the 35th hole which is like uh almost the whole 36 whole final so super happy to get the win i like can’t believe it right now it will take a while to sunk in but really really happy well you were eight under par you only made one bogey this morning the conditions were a lot different than this afternoon how did you manage that yeah uh it was pretty windy uh in the afternoon especially the first nine um the golf level was obviously uh great throughout the 35 holes but um the first 18 were amazing bogey-free uh both of us um and I think just like staying patience throughout the round um I was up a little early just one two went back to old square um so I knew it was going to come down to the last few holes and uh I was lucky to have PA by my side i think that was definitely key uh for me to get this win yeah you looked like you were having fun out there which is the most important thing and you’re going to have some fun with this schedule you’re going to get into four major championships including the AIG Women’s Open at Roll Call playing Lynx Golf again in August looking forward to that yeah I can’t wait and as like as a matter of fact my coach uh won the the amter uh I think it was uh 2002 and he won a fourth call so it’s going to be a challenge uh hopefully he can come and caddy for me and it’s going to be a full circle moment but super happy to play more links golf at the end of the summer well you are the sixth champion of the women’s amateur from Spain tell us what that means to you yeah it’s great uh like we’re lucky to have a lot of great players to look up to in Spain and uh being able to put my name on that trophy alongside Asara or Kotta is great uh I’m just super happy right now and just looking forward to keep going well many many congratulations as I said before that’s one of the best finals we’ve ever seen thank you so much and she does look super happy she does no wonder spoke very well very well very well you know they they go across to the United States have a college education they play a lot of golf a lot of competitive golf but not much like this this is very special in front of the cameras and very nice of her to mention her caddy Paula she beat in the quarterfinals and a great experience for PA definitely her caddy Paula yes her caddy Paula sorry the two PAS just a fabulous week at the RNA Women’s Amateur in the end it was a twoon-one victory for PA Martin San Pedro just pipping Farah O’Keefe who can be very proud of herself especially the way she got here her journey was not straightforward in the semi-finals and then produced her aame alongside PAC over the first 18 holes she came back very well in that semifinal let’s show you how it all unfolded [Music] let’s get to the fourth yeah the first par three in the morning she had just lost the third hole to a birdie but responded beautifully with what a fantastic shot and down breeze you could see how much softer that green was than when we finished this afternoon bunker play at 16 in the end it was for nothing but it was just exquisite oh fabulous bunker shot not the easiest to stance see her feet just in the bunker but Keith rolled this one in for Birdie [Applause] back and forward they went for 18 holes both five under par both blemish free absolutely sensational and then a break and then back out at it yeah back out in the afternoon and the wind had definitely picked up for this front nine just missed the green here lip out there and then this was an interesting one go on the third hole in the green the fairway bunker took three to get out [Music] it was always that the American got back to all square but couldn’t get ahead in the match every time she got to a point where she might put some pressure on the Spaniard came back yeah and a great trip here at the sixth keith has had a good shot in on the par three but not much you can do against a chip in birdie too no she’s part Seby’s bloodline unbelievable again with the putter on the se the par five but then this was the start of a bit of a rally for the American this one went in at some speed out at the far end of the golf course it did she made a little bit of a rally here around the turn that was a nine this the par five 10th and with her opposition on the green in two nearly an albatross clearly an albatross and that was two that was two fantastic shots lyn there pretty well now this had a bit of curl on it it certainly did just from the upper level judged it to perfection though then this was just little Paris this was a big big moment for par and 14 tie game you can’t do that you can’t do that and this is the putt to take care of it all for a par on the 35th hole of the final and so nice of Pharaoh Keith there clapping it was played in such good good spirits what what an advert for the women’s game young women like that full of ambition full of skill and able to play it in that manner yeah the fiercest of competitors and both desperate to win you know if golf has anything Yeah that that’s what it is we get into the pro game and it comes becomes a bit tetier than that that that is golf in its purest sense yeah both respecting in each other’s great play yeah it was wonderful truly wonderful as was nan yeah wonderful venue [Music] well she talked about the trophy and the names on there spanish names that she can identify with not from yesterday year modern ones and hers will be there what a trophy looks quite heavy it does look very special yeah well let’s throw down to Sophie for the presentation to present the trophy to our champion Ian Patterson captain of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St andrews congratulations you are the women’s champion [Applause] how beautiful lovely looks like you need to go to the gym to hold that trophy my goodness hope so she’ll be filling with that something something later i hope so i wonder if we’re going to hear from her great atmosphere great crowd a lot of the competitors still here moments to cherish and the members and the have really loved this event come out supported it very well there we go well done the golf club of men well done the RNA well done all the competitors and well done mother nature for giving us a fabulous last day yeah we had just what we wanted didn’t we it was a nice day sunny warm in the morning wind picking up and maybe we’re going to hear from the champion i hope she goes on to have a fantastic professional career because she’s got something you can identify with her she’s got grace she’s got a quality that not everybody has very appealing and seemed very composed under the pressure ween we end and the Scottish version of that as well she looks like she’s going to say something but the crowd keep cheering i know maybe she’s done her interview she’s just milking it saving the adulation pictures she can show her grandkids very very special and didn’t the crowd turn up see a really proper tough golfing occasion oh lovely it would be lovely for them once you know to look through all the names when they’ve got a moment see all the names that have won it in the past how lovely for Palo Francisco as well yeah you know to be part of that all right she didn’t win it she competed well and got through to the end of pretty much the end of the competition but was part of a famous win [Applause] it’s so good i think they could stay there all night i think they could yeah i’m not And I think the crowd are going to stay there all night i think they would i think they’ll get that trophy into the clubhouse i think Instagram is going to be very busy in about 45 seconds with those pictures those images that we’re watching from around the world could not have been better it could not have been a a better final thank you Beanie good luck on your travels and we’ll see you all next time fabulous week at Nan heat [Music] [Applause] [Music] heat heat [Music] heat [Music] [Music]

  1. This was better than watching the open , much more interesting and exciting. Sky Sports coverage on golf is appalling anyway with more time spent with studio chats , interviews etc whilst golf is being played , I tune in to watch golf not chat. This was a great battle and my respects to both players , shame there had to be just one winner but in a way I think they both won , both deserve invitational's in my book. Was getting a little distracted looking at Sampedro's caddy , never seemed to smile. Towards the end she started to and I nearly fell in love , she's beautiful when she smiles.

  2. How refreshing. Ladies golf is the the ‘sleeping giant’. Far more entertaining than any US Open right now

  3. Fantastic golf. Absolute pleasure to watch, livestreamed here in NZ. Looking forward to seeing those two again in a Solheim Cup. Great sportsmanship, makes a nice change from the pro histrionics.
