Donald Trump will have his eyes on the U.S. Open at Oakmont on Sunday in the hopes of putting Saturday’s military parade in Washington D.C. behind him.

The parade, which is estimated to have cost $45 million, was set up in celebration of Trump’s birthday this weekend, but it failed to attract the large numbers that were expected. Attendance was improved by a group of protestors during the parade.

As a keen golf fan, Trump’s attention will turn to the U.S. Open, which has some of the world’s best players in contention in Pennsylvania. One of those is Adam Scott, whom the President has gotten to know better in recent weeks.

In March, the PGA Tour called Trump in to aid its ongoing peace negotiations with the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia (PIF). One man involved in the peace talks with LIV Golf is Scott, who is currently a PGA Tour Player Director.

Alongside Tiger Woods and commissioner Jay Monahan, the Australian attended the White House prior to The Players Championship to discuss the future of the sport.

When making his trip to Washington D.C. though, Scott quick realized where the President’s other priorities lay away from golf.

“It was obvious to me, very quickly, when they were setting up for the Israeli delegation right after our meeting and putting the Israeli flag and the U.S. flag and getting that room ready that our conversation was pretty low in importance of what was happening that day,” he said in March.

“And really, the President had far more important things to focus on, and I encouraged him to go and do that well for everyone’s sake after our meeting.”

Scott will no doubt he hoping to catch Trump’s eye on Sunday, and win the second major title of his career.

Whilst the former Masters champion is closer to the end of his career than the start at the age of 44, he has looked has good as ever in testing conditions at Oakmont.

“Yeah, it would be super fulfilling,” he said on Saturday at the opportunity of adding another major to his resume.

“Everyone out here has got their journey, you know. Putting ourselves in these positions doesn’t just happen by fluke. It’s not easy to do it. I really haven’t been in this kind of position for five or six years, or feeling like I’m that player. But that’s what I’m always working towards. It’s not that easy to figure it all out.

“But if I were to come away with it tomorrow, it would be a hell of a round of golf and an exclamation point on my career… I’m playing good, so there’s no reason not to. I’m playing from the fairway a lot. I’ve played fairly conservative, and I haven’t really been forcing the issue much.

“Could be a different story tomorrow. A lot can happen in 18 holes out here. But I like what I’ve done so far.”
