Griffin Canning has won each of his last five starts. The first met to do that in seven years and he’s doing it with strikeouts too. He’s had five strikeouts in those starts. He’s been really, really good. Can goes upstairs with a strikeout and that’s how matters begin this afternoon. Tucker homered in the opening game of this series. Tucker chases a changeup and Cannings got back to back to start his day. Here’s Suzuki who busted out of the slump last night for the Cubs and he struck him out good changeup to see Matthew Boyd pitching and healthy. He hasn’t made more than 15 starts in a year since 2019 and he goes upstairs with the changeup to strike out for the first out. Here’s SOTO 400 against lefties this season and SOTO chases the breaking ball and Boyd’s got back to back strikeouts, five batters in this game. Five K’s quick turnaround. They had the late game last night at 715 and this is a really good slider from Boyd and both pitchers strike out the side in the opening inning. Canning and Boyd, the contact rate is zero so far. First fair ball of the game, a fly ball out to left brandon Nimmo battling the sun and stays with it to make the grab. Nothing easy about that. Cannings got his fourth strike out the first five batters. Griffin Canning feeling strong on his 29th birthday. Struck out the side in the first inning for only the second time in his career. And Horner pops one up on the infield Alonzo coming in to take charge in foul territory. Six up and six down for Griffin County. That one hits Marte who has been hit more than his share this year. It’s the sixth time he’s been hit. He becomes the first baserunner in this game. Torn did most of the catching when Francisco Alvarez missed a month. A surprisingly good job of producing at the plate to one out to left center in the gap is he will come in to score. Racing for third is to, he slides in safely with an RB I triple and the Mets strike. 1st 1 to 0. Armstrong has been catching just about everything this year that was just beyond his reach. He just missed, it looked like he was on the left side of his glove and I don’t know if there’s any better hit for a catcher than a triple. I really don’t fourth triple of his career. His first since 2021 to canning after going six up and six down , the first two innings gives up an infield hit and a walk try to get on the board. Canning has been pretty stingy and only a 2.5 a coming into the day and birdie flies one out to right. Swanson is able to move and SOTO makes the catch Swanson will stay put at second and that’s the first and a good back foot changeup there by Griffin his fifth strikeout of the day two down. He’s done a really good job of expanding the zone when he’s ahead as a hitter. You’re not expecting a changeup inside. You’re looking at maybe a two seamer at your front hip or a slider. Tucker grounds one down to Alonso Canning gets over to cover to work through trouble in the third Mets one cubs zero. Suzuki leads off in the 4th 2 to 2 and a beautiful high grab and gets the out at first little glove. That’s a lot of confidence in your glove. I guess if you have gold on your , you have a golden glove, you might as well use it lined the other way, but right at SOTO and that retires the side. Canning works a 1234 and four scoreless innings for Griffin Canning. Alonso struck out his first time up one of four strikeouts for Matthew Boyd through the first three innings. That curveball is on the outside corner and he strikes out Alonso lined the other way by Nimmo coming on. Nimmo an opposite field. The Mets third hit against Matthew Boyd Marte was hit on the foot by a pitch. His first time he pulls through the hole for a base hit back to back two out hits for Nimmo and Marte two on and two out. Second time through the lineup. First time all year, he has been dominating second time just so so third time. Not very good. So this is important for him to get through this lineup. He gets one of the year along the left field line bat makes the catch nicely done by Suzuki caught that ball in fair territory. Two hits and two left for the Mets in the fourth Horner leads off in the fifth inning for Chicago Horner. Dribbles one out in front of the plate and to pounce off the first out in the fifth check, swing on a 3 to 0 pitch. Certainly not what Swanson had in mind and makes the toss for the second out. That’s got to be frustrating as a hitter. You think about the last two outs, how frustrating you get a 3 to 0 pitch and you’re looking for a fastball middle in and it ran too far in Justin Turner grounds one down to third. Nice easy hop for Vientos and that retires the side nine in a row retired by Griffin Canning. We’re halfway through on Sunday , 1 to 0. New York leads off in the bottom of the fifth hooked into left field, a base hit for a, was able to stay back just enough on that changeup and he’s got himself a base hit to start the bottom of the fifth, first base. We’ve been talking about that pick off move for Matthew Boyd and he gets the rookie luis for the second out. That’s his third pick off of the year. The 19th of his career. He took one step to second base and that was just enough to get him and goes down on the curveball and that’s the fifth inning comes to an end. Six strikeouts for Matthew Boyd. We talked about PC A, his chase second highest in all of baseball, the most aggressive hitter in all of baseball, but he continues to put up good numbers, Armstrong deep to right and that’s going to tie up the game, Pete Crow Armstrong in. Flushing, puts a dent in the team that traded him away his 10th home run of the year to tie up this game at one and that one , he left in the zone. And the one thing about PC A is his damage in the zone is incredible. His contact in the zone is really good and he gets a fast that gets too much of the plate and Tucker fouls it off to Renz who took that one sharply in a bad spot. The bad part about being a catcher, it’s great that you’re always involved, but sometimes you don’t want to be involved. You hope he’s all right here, Brian back of the assistant athletic trainer with torn who has not moved. He wants to tough it out, you know, it’s hard right now. Francisco Alvarez will come to and Suzuki, it’s another ground ball game with a home run. It’s 1 to 1 in the sixth inning at Citi Field, Matthew Boyd with eight strikeouts a season high tries. Last night. It was Brett Bailey hitting two home runs and driving at five tonight, laying down his fifth of the year gives the Mets a two to one lead. This ball doesn’t get in. He wants it up a little more has been much better since the 1st 14 games puts the Mets up 2 to 1. Garrett on the pitch for the Mets as we go to the seventh pitching in 17 games only scored upon one time and a ground ball hit slowly comes in. His only players from the tying run in scoring position with one out Horner lashes one to the left field to tie up the game around. Third comes Busch. He will come in to score Horner heads to second. He’s in standing with an RB I double and the Cubs will come back to tie it again. It’s 2 to 2 in the seventh. Niko Horner being one of the toughest hitters to strike out in baseball. He uses the whole field doesn’t necessarily hit the ball extremely hard, but he finds a way to put the ball in play exactly what he does here and he reaches for it and flicks it out to center in. Comes Taylor and he’s, there’s double ties the game. It’s the Mets. You talk about the late game heroics. He has eight home runs and he hit the big ones late smack Tucker back on the track. Francisco puts the Mets back in front with his home run of the year 3 to 2 New York more magic than the Mets. Unofficial captain and Alonzo Rills one to left field. Suzuki will get this one. Alonso head to second and he stands with a one out double his league leading 15th double of the year to the center for a base hit Alzour. The Mets have an insurance run. It’s 4 to 2 dios who hit the home run that gave the Mets the lead in the sixth. Now provide some insurance in the eighth. Nimmo has been on base twice, 1 to 2 to Nimmo and he slugs one to deep right field tucker back to the wall. The Mets second home run of the year, a two earned shot. And now the Mets have scored four times in the bottom of the eighth and the Cubs 6 to 2 just like that. The Cubs are down to their final out another ground ball this one for Alonzo and that will do it and the Mets take two out of three in the series from the Cubs an eighth inning explosion as the Mets defeat the Cubs 6 to 2.

  1. I play fantasy baseball and for the last few years when you picked up Griffin Canning from the waiver wire you knew you were in reallyyyy bad shape hahaha. Who would have thought? He’s been terrific. Gonna be hard to decide on the rotation once Manea and Montas come back. LETS GO METS!

  2. The Angels should have kept Canning. We don't need Kikuchi
Canning could win the most games What's wrong with the Angels is that they don't have the right environment to develop players.

  3. Mets could go 10-0 in the next games and no one would utter a word about them. Keep it rolling

  4. Cuando cualquier pelotero de lo Mets remolca carrera Lindor celebra pero si es Soto que la saca aburrido ese demagogo👹😂

  5. ah yeah! got a lot of homerun power today…soto and alonso didn't even hit one! i need to see more singles, doubles and triples though…contact, contact, contact…lgm!!!

  6. If you can make $750 million dollars and play like Soto, Mets need to fire the people for making horrible decisions

  7. I thought Joe Girardi worked for YES network, I was wondering why he was doing this game, so I searched him and found that yes, in fact, he IS managing the Rockies now 😮

  8. Good morning Joe Pohlad

Word on the street is that you Farted in Ron Coomer's mouth in the owner's suite during the Cubs game

    Can you confirm or deny

  9. The Mets are a team that does not smell like a thing that does not smell like a large, smelly rat.
    Go Cubs!

  10. We're (the Cubs) are finally coming up on a soft part of our schedule and could realistically go 15-5 over our next 20 games. That's what I'm expecting anyways

  11. You know what, at this point as long as I live in Chicago I might as well continue to support all teams that includes white Sox Bulls and bears I'm tired of making fun of my city I kinda felt bad. As of now no more talking sh*t about Chicago. 💯💯💯💯💯💯

  12. The NL Central is the weak link of the National League. Surprisingly St. Louis is now just 1 game behind Chicago despite having a AAAA lineup. Only 1 playoff team is coming out of that division this year and I'd be surprised if it's not Chicago.

  13. God damn cubs pitching off today ofc they need to make a playoff run this year no damn excuses trade for a star pitcher or skme

  14. REMEMBER WHEN THE CHAMPIONS MADE THE METS LOOK LIKE CHILDREN!!!💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻🖕🏻🖕🏻🖕🏻🖕🏻🖕🏻🖕🏻 #GODODGERS

  15. That home run by vientos wonder what the exit velocity was on that I want him to team DR WBC now 🇩🇴
