Want to practice like a Tour pro? I break down Tommy Fleetwood’s training routine and show how average golfers can use it to improve fast. No talent required—just smarter practice! @tommyfleetwoodgolf
What happens when an average golfer trains like a PGA Tour pro? In this video, I break down Tommy Fleetwood’s first YouTube video where he shares his daily training routine, and I show how you can apply the same principles—even without access to elite facilities or expensive tools. From alignment stick drills to start-line gates, this video shows how Fleetwood’s methodical approach to practice can transform your golf game.
This isn’t just a review of Tommy’s video—this is a how-to guide for the everyday golfer who wants to practice with purpose. I show you how to recreate his drills at your local range using simple tools, and explain why each part of his routine matters.
If you’re tired of aimless range sessions and want to train more like the pros, this is the video for you. And stay tuned—next week I’ll play 9 holes after training like Tommy for a week to see if it actually improves my performance.

unless you’ve been living under a rock it would have been impossible to miss some huge YouTube golf news Tommy Fleetwood has a YouTube channel the most likable guy on tour is doing YouTube content and I’m absolutely buzzing about it and on top of that his first video is absolutely perfect he explains how he goes about training on a daily basis and it got me thinking what would happen if I trained like Tommy Fleetwood how much better would I be at golf if I trained like a tour pro well we’re gonna find out I’m gonna do everything Tommy Fleetwood does in this video and I’m gonna do it for one week and then next week’s video is gonna be a 9 hole course vlog to see if it’s made me better this should be pretty interesting so let’s get into it in Tommy’s first video on YouTube he starts by showing us around his home golf course the Jumeirah Golf Estate which is also home to the Tommy Fleetwood Academy this looks like heaven for anyone who wants to get better at golf the facilities are second to none and the academy is doing some amazing things to grow the game of golf but after a quick tour he goes on to reveal how he trains on a day to day basis in preparation for major season and I tell you something how a tour player trains on a daily basis should be eye opening to absolutely every average golfer watching this video most of us when we go to the driving range are simply blasting golf balls into the distance hoping to stumble across the feeling that makes us hit the golf ball better if we’re honest with ourselves we all know that this isn’t the right way to go about training and shockingly that is not how Tommy Fleetwood approaches a rain session the most eye opening thing about his video was how much he still works on his golf swing we admire tour pros for having these perfect golf swings but they didn’t just wake up with these golf swings they work on them every single day and they maintain their golf swings with this hard work and the first thing Tommy Fleetwood shows us is how he uses a plane perfecter on the driving range to make sure his swing is in check unfortunately I don’t actually have a plane perfector so I’ve made a makeshift one by sticking some alignment sticks in some polystyrene now the whole point of these devices is to make sure that you’re using your body correctly to move the club along the right path and plane obviously I’ve got one stick stuck in the polystyrene at the same angle as my golf club and I’ve got the other stick along the ground along my target line and we’re just gonna use this perfector as a guide to make sure that our club is staying on plane I’m using a mirror behind myself as well but anyway by doing this hopefully we’re making sure that the golf swing is looking like it’s supposed to that is miles left I actually hit the alignment stick there this shows how little I actually work on my golf swing just clipping this lime and stickers is annoying it’s better didn’t read sound now we’re just gonna use this plane perfector to try and make sure that my shaft angles are all in the right place which let’s be honest they’re probably not still going left good strike though but this is the whole point if the shaft angles aren’t in check then they need to be worked on on top of using the plane perfector Tommy also uses a golf ball box on the outside of his club head to give himself a sort of gate to hit through but also to make sure that his takeaway isn’t going outside the line which is something I’ve always always struggled with now take a glance at this setup and ask yourself when was the last time you did this down the driving range or even when was the last time you saw anyone do this down the driving range this is why tall bros are better than us maybe my lying angles are wrong why is that going left all the time in the video Tommy seems to spend about 25% of his rain session doing this sort of work so that’s exactly what I’m gonna do for the next week 25% of my range sessions are gonna be exactly like this hopefully without hitting the alignment stick better still left though his next drill is actually gonna help me hit the ball a little bit straighter one of the most underrated abilities pro golfers have over as average golfers is their ability to start the golf ball on their desired target line I mean just look at me in that first segment everything started left and went left now it’s clear I need to work on my start line but what’s crazy to think about is how much Tommy Fleetwood a PJ Tour player Ryder Cup winner actually works on his start line it’s part of his driving range routine and this is how he works on it now he sets up a gate using alignment sticks about 6 feet in front of where he’s hitting from now this gate is about 1 foot wide maybe a little bit narrower the narrower this gate is the more accurate you have to be now it’s fairly obvious what the goal is here we need to hit this golf ball through that gate now I’ve never actually done this before so I’m hoping I don’t actually break anything but here it goes look how straight that is wow bit of a fade but still bullet straight oh I wonder if I actually missed the gate there that’d be interesting let’s get some slow mo on this and see what happens so I hit the left stick and I actually broke it so it’s obvious I really need to work on my start line let’s make it just a little bit wider shall we not Tommy Fleetwood at the end of the day let’s move that out the way oh I bet I was close to hitting the stick there I think this is the drill I’m gonna need to work on the most my start line has been bad for a long time loving this left aren’t I at least I’m missing the stick better I think working on this is gonna really help my golf cause I miss so many targets left obviously there’s some destructive issues when I do get it wrong which hopefully force me to start hitting some straighter ball flights those two shots were good let’s have a look at what else Tommy works on we all know how dialed in tour pros are with their distance control and you may be surprised to hear this but it’s actually because they work on it a lot Tommy explains that he has three different shots with every single golf club in his bag a stock swing or a full swing a smooth swing and a hands to shoulder swing three different lengths that give him three different distances with every club in his bag now these three swings are fairly full swings we’re not talking half swings or three quarter swings which I’m sure he also has with a 7 iron in hand these three swings varied his carry distance by roughly 10 yards and this is how tour pros are able to hit the golf ball so close to the hole these micro changes in the length of their golf swings are able to give them micro distances with every single golf club now he’s obviously got enough money to own a Trackman to help him dial in these three swings and the distances and I’m lucky enough to own a Flightscope Mevo Plus so I can work on this at home as well but every single person watching this video can also work on this if you’ve got access to a top tracer driving range or a Trackman driving range you can go down there and work on these three swings and the distances that they go the whole point of this part of the driving range session is to develop feel not only for these three swing lengths but also the distances that they go now Tommy’s trying to hit his 7 iron about 190 yards I am not I usually hit this 7 iron about 172 yards I have no idea what my shoulder length swing is and I have no idea what a smooth 7 iron would be so that’s what we’re gonna work on next I’m gonna hit a few different shots try and get the distances and see what we come up with still going miles left that’s a full swing hundred and seventy three yards not a great strike go hundred and sixty one yards still left hundred and sixty seven yards so full swing maybe on average about hundred and sixty seven yards let’s have a look what a shoulder length swing goes hundred and fifty yards hundred and fifty four yards hundred and forty six yards so we’re looking at about what hundred and fifty yards or so bit of a bigger gap than what Tommy’s got maybe my shoulder length swing is a little bit shorter than his let’s aim for 160 yard shot and that will be my smooth 7 iron God has left I really need to work on that oh hundred and fifty nine yards might be a little bit long already starting to develop a bit of feel hundred and sixty three yards pretty good shot again again hundred and sixty point seven I think you guys get the point now three different swings three different distances and practice these swings the more you practice them the more feel you’re gonna get and the closer we can hit it to the hole there’s one last thing Tommy Fleetwood works on at the driving range let’s work on that next now throughout Tommy’s video he seems to be working his way up through his golf bag and this final insight into his driving range sessions focuses on Woods and tee shots and this insight focuses on how he practices his tee shots again he’s not aimlessly blasting golf shots down the driving range he’s not even trying to hit the ball as straight as possible or as far as possible he’s literally visualizing tee shots that he’s gonna be hitting on the golf course that week just like all of us he knows the course that he’s about to play on he’s either played on it a few times in the past or he’s at least had a few practice rounds of that golf course during the week so he knows which tee shots he’s gonna hit and all of us can relate to that because we often play the same courses over and over again and if we know all of that we can practice our tee shots on the driving range now luckily for me I have a version of my home golf course built on the GS Pro Golf simulator software so I can literally practice all of my tee shots here in the simulator now I built this golf course myself so visually it’s not as good as the other golf courses on GS Pro so don’t judge this software based on this golf course but anyway let’s hit a few tee shots a little bit high off the club but that’s straight down the middle little bit further back than I’d wanna be though now because we’re in practice mode this will automatically reset to the t box so I can practice this t shot over and over again stay on the Fairway come back a bit not too bad again bit of a bad strike but we’re in the Fairway let’s hit one more and move on to a different hole little bit up the right this time again off the top of the club maybe that tee is a little bit too high I’m gonna be stuck behind that tree now I think yeah let’s try a different hole now this is what I mean about the visual of the golf course normally down the left hand side there’s a load of houses and the river would have been rendered properly but the shot is still very similar now this is a tee shot where you can use different clubs off the tee I’ve got a 5 wood in hand at the moment but I could hit a 5 iron or even a 3 wood so I can practice different shots which is something you can do down the driving range as well not too bad there’s a bit of a slope there I’ll kick it left there you go good tee shot let’s see if a 5 iron is a good option off this tee box good strike just a little bit left it’s gotta go on that line ah we got there okay hundred 93 yard carry how about a 3 wood would a 3 wood go too far bit off balance should be OK though yeah there’s a good chance to be fair that 3 wood might go a little bit too far it’s held on to the Fairway there but in dryer conditions maybe that would run through the Fairway but again I think you guys see the point of this part of the video I’m lucky enough to be able to practice my tee shots here in the simulator but this is something you can do down the driving range use the driving range to set parameters visualise where the Fairway is on the driving range visualise all the obstacles that there are bunkers trees maybe there’s water and practice what clubs you’ll hit off that tee and what type of shot shape you wanna hit I think I hit six out of six fairways there let’s try the 3 wood again maybe take a bit more of an aggressive line oh it’s just faded on me I was trying to go more aggressive think three words the wrong club now Tommy doesn’t spend all of his time on the driving range he reveals a lot more in this video about his bunker game practice his short game practice and his putting game but I think it’s best you guys head over to his channel to watch the rest of these tips I’m gonna be using all of Tommy’s training tactics to work on my game over the next week and next week’s video is gonna be a 9 hole course vlog to see how much this type of practice has improved my golf so if you’re not subscribed to the channel make sure you hit that subscribe button so you don’t miss next week’s video and obviously make sure you head over to Tommy’s channel and watch his whole video about how he practices in readiness for majors as always thank you so much for watching this whole video and I’ll see you next week for another
