SEC commissioner Greg Sankey said Monday it was no secret he was playing golf with President Donald Trump over the weekend.
Trump hosted Sankey and Notre Dame AD Pete Bevacqua at his club in Bedminster.
Sankey didn’t reveal too much but said it was productive.
“I believe those are best left for the moment on the golf course,” Sankey said, per CBS Sports.
He did open up about actually playing golf, however.
“Not a secret,” Sankey said Monday, per On3. “Had the opportunity to play around and golf with the president. I’ve always appreciated his interest in college sports. We’ve hosted him at some of our games. I think, collectively, we’ve hosted him at national championships. What was helpful for me is – and for Pete (Bevacqua) as well – to hear his thoughts and his perspectives, to share some of ours. I think those are best left for the moment on the golf course.”
Yahoo Sports’ Ross Dellenger reported last week, “The significance of the meeting cannot be overstated. It comes two days after a California judge granted approval of a landmark legal settlement (House) that further evolves major college athletics into a more professionalized entity where schools will directly compensate athletes. The two men attending the Trump meeting hold significant decision-making power.”
