ASICS Metaspeed LD 2 | Fine Tuning A High Performance Distance Spike!

[Music] how’s it going guys I’m Conor from running Warehouse I’m here with Paul Lang senior product merchandiser at as6 today we are going to be taking a first look at an update to the new as6 metas Speed LD now Paul we saw the metas Speed LD a few years ago it was that intro to the super spikes from A6 very unique design it was a spike but it was spikeless now we’ve got the latest update tell us what you’ve learned over the years and how we got to this shoe that’s going to be seen on all the top pros this summer yeah I think as we look forward to the summer uh we want to make sure that we’re arming the athletes with the tools they need to get to the Finish Line as fast as possible and so a couple updates here uh we’re going to bring that FF turbo you know into the midsole that’s kind of that fast racing uh foam that we we know our athletes love uh we we’re going to continue to maintain what we’ve done with this carbon plate that’s you know works for the rear foot into the forefoot and then actually becomes the spike plate itself but you’re going to see actual pins so in the past where we had that plate kind of integrated to be a spikeless spike um we did want to give a little bit more traction so the placement of pins uh in areas where we’re going to be able to get traction but without creating too much pressure on you know metatarsals that type of thing so you can see a really uh intelligent placement and then a little bit of a wider 4-foot plate just to kind of maximize that contact surface to get that grip and that initial push off as that plate Works through and can you tell us a little bit more about this exposed plate obviously it has those secondary traction elements with the teeth what are some of the benefits from weight savings from traction why do you use the plate setup like this yeah I think just to have a simple one piece plate um we’re going to save weight uh it increases the smoothness uh it helps that foot kind of propel a little bit easier as we get from the mid to the 4 foot and toe off and then you’ve got some great kind of small grip elements and then of course the replaceable spikes uh which you know are really going to be able to bite that track and get in there and since the original LD came out we’ve seen introductions of the MD the SP what have you learned from those shoes and then how has that kind of helped you get to the latest version of the LD yeah I think one of the really incredible things if we go back a couple years spikes were just how light can we get how light can we get and we found now that we’ve able been able to increase kind of those mid sight midsole Heights to the to the max World Athletics allowable Heights but we’re not gaining any weight so the the Foams are lighter uh they’re more protective they’re more energetic they play super nice with the plates so the athletes are really getting a benefit of a shoe that can Race fast that can train in it uh they can get back on the track quicker than they were before just because of the forgiving nature of the shoe and it really is become a a tool for more than just race day but for kind of their entire workout repertoire yeah and when we talk about weights the upper is kind of that final piece final element to keep weight as light as possible but at the same time you need enough support to kind of contain the shoe keep the foot locked in how do you accomplish that here yeah I think this is a a great example of it you can see as you look close it’s a a super breathable mesh but it’s it’s really protective it’s going to keep that foot locked down you know we’ve got some reinforcements uh exactly where you need them uh but nothing that you don’t need so it’s almost like an elevation by minimalism if that makes sense you know uh addition by subtraction you know as little as we need but as much protection as we can give and and really giv the complete package now this is the original prototype colorway whose spike is this did did we steal this out of a backpack and uh what what distances do you feel like this is shoe is going to be best suited for yeah I think it depends on the individual um you know everybody’s got a little bit of a different style and range I think a great example is somebody like um ish that you’ll see running for the UK this summer uh 10,000 meter record holder you know this is a shoe perfect for an athlete like that that’s looking to go super fast over the longer distances and just make sure that they’ve got that protection but still that super fast tool that allows them to get to that finish line [Music] o
