Like many other Americans, President Donald Trump celebrated the unofficial start of summer on Memorial Day.

Memorial Day is celebrated on the last Monday of May to honor U.S. soldiers who died in battle. On May 26, the president spoke at the Arlington National Cemetery, visited his Virginia golf club and attacked his opponents on Truth Social.

The president arrived back at the White House in the early evening, and Trump’s schedule for Tuesday, May 27, shows no public events. So here is what to know about what the president was up to on Memorial Day:

Trump’s Arlington National Cemetery speech with JD Vance and Pete Hegseth

Trump spoke at the Arlington National Cemetery on Memorial Day. He was joined by Vice President JD Vance, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Air Force Gen. Dan Caine, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

The Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia serves as the final resting place for more than 400,000 veterans and their family members.

Trump’s remarks hit on historical moments in the country’s founding, naming colonists killed in the 1775 battle of Lexington and Concord amid the 250th anniversary of the beginning of the American Revolutionary War. He also highlighted Gold Star families, the loved ones of service members killed in battle.

Vance and Hegseth said the administration is trying to avoid foreign conflicts.

Trump calls opponents ‘scum’ in Memorial Day social media post

Before the appearance at Arlington, Trump took to Truth Social to wish everyone a happy Memorial Day before attacking his political opponents.

“HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY TO ALL, INCLUDING THE SCUM THAT SPENT THE LAST FOUR YEARS TRYING TO DESTROY OUR COUNTRY THROUGH WARPED RADICAL LEFT MINDS,” Trump wrote in the post.

He also appeared to reference former President Joe Biden as “AN INCOMPETENT PRESIDENT,” and bashed federal judges. Trump has lobbed attacks against judges from around the country as some of his administration’s moves have been struck down in court. It has some people worried about a constitutional crisis.

“BUT FEAR NOT, WE HAVE MADE GREAT PROGRESS OVER THE LAST 4 MONTHS,” Trump’s Memorial Day post went on to say. “AMERICA WILL SOON BE SAFE AND GREAT AGAIN! AGAIN, HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY, AND GOD BLESS AMERICA!”

President visits his Trump National Golf Club D.C. in Virginia on Memorial Day

After his official Memorial Day remarks, Trump headed to the Trump National Golf Club D.C., located in Virginia, according to his schedule.

The D.C. club is one of 11 Trump Golf-owned properties in the U.S., according to GolfWeek, which also includes the club at West Palm Beach, Florida, where he plays when visiting his private club Mar-a-Lago.

Trump is expected to make fewer visits to Mar-a-Lago until the fall, as the club has been closed for the social season.
