A golf tournament will honor the life and work of New Bern’s first and only black mayor.
Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity will host the sixth annual “Leander R. Morgan Memorial Golf Classic”. It’s at the Harbour Point Golf Club this Saturday. That’s in the Fairfield Harbour community near New Bern. Registration is at 7:30 that morning, and First Tee is at 8.
Organizers say, while it’s a fun event, it also has an important purpose.
Tyrone Robertson, Chapter Pres., New Bern alumni chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity says:
“The Morgan family, themselves, they come down, they support and participate in the tournament, and we’d like to thank them for allowing us to continue to promote the legacy of brother Lee Morgan.”

It’s one scholarship a year. It’s an academic scholarship. Our motto as a fraternity is achievement, and so we look for individuals who have promise, and it allows us to help them go to college.
It’s $75 per adult golfer and $300 per foursome. There’s also a discount for youth.
