Ireland’s prestigious European Club has changed hands after being sold for a reported sum exceeding €35m.
Founded by Pat Ruddy in 1987, the 193-acre Brittas Bay property in county Wicklow has been purchased by new owners, confirmed to be former motor dealers Raymond and Nicky Conlan, according to the Irish Independent.
This exclusive links course has hosted numerous high-profile golfers, including Rory McIlroy and Padraig Harrington, who have both won national championships at the venue.
Other golfing legends such as Tiger Woods, Johnny Miller, and Gary Player have also played at the European Club, which has consistently featured in the World Top 100 Golf Courses lists.
The property was listed by Lisney Sotheby’s International Realty, who described it as a unique opportunity for the new owner to decide on the club’s future direction.
The listing stated: “Privately owned, a purposeful decision was made to maintain a small membership, currently in the mid-80s, to give comfortable golf to the owners and members while affording the opportunity to accept visiting paying patrons to a level suited to financial planning.
“This gives a new owner the choice of remaining private, going ultra private or maximising commercial golf traffic through world visitor play and an enlarged membership.”
