I’d only ever addressed Tiger Down once at Augusta and we had a bit of an argument on the third TE. I’d been out in the morning and scouted the golf course. So on the third TE it’s a par4 and sometimes they move the tea up on Sunday which makes it possible to drive it on the green. I told Tiger that in the range and there was no conversation about it on the range. I just said, “Hey, they moved the tea up on three today. You can knock it on the green.” And we got there and uh he didn’t want to hit driver and I just, you know, he was at the time he was I think four shots back and it was, you know, he needed to hit driver. You can get it on the green. I didn’t see why he didn’t want to. It was an easy shot. He ended up taking driver cuz I’d coached him into it and he hit a terrible shot. Absolute shot over into the right trees and he was bitter and he was carrying on carrying on carrying on and he was sulking away and carrying on and then we got up the ninth hole. Dress him down and like gave him an absolute earful. Um and you do so knowing that if he takes it the wrong way, he might fire you after the round but it need to be said and I did. And uh after the round he said, “Hey, thanks very much for that. I deserve that.

A caddie is meant to advice a golfer. But the golfer makes the shot choice. If the golfer does not see the shot. I believe the caddie should never try to force a golfer to play it. Just give him the distance and the club he wants
To be a great athlete you have to be coachable.
