What I’m about to share with you is one of the most important things that influences your swing… and it’s in this hand right here. It’s something that you never learned when you first started gripping the golf club. BUT there’s this piece in your trail hand that dominates the entire swing. Yet, nobody cares and it’s always overlooked.

I am also a SagutoGolf member and I truly think this is a important video , my question is th right fingers gripping the club ,are the fingers pointing down to the ground ( like your shaking your hand with the ground ) or shaking your hand ar waist level ?
Need thumbs on the backside of club imo
Tom! Amazing Lesson! Thankyou❤❤❤
Brilliant as always!!!
Realized my hand was slightly pointing to the right of target! This will help greatly. Thanks
I care Tom. So much that I may watch it twice.
And how to do a full swing without taking out the light fixture above your head. 😆
Tom , great video!! I did this right hand grip change during winter practice back in December. For someone who has fought a hook for the last 20 years , now with new right hand grip iam seeing the most beautiful 5 yard fade. Thanks for explaining why this right hand grip change works and is a total game changer !!
This video is coming at the right time! Tee time tomorrow morning in Tubac, Az
Tried this grip before finishing the whole video. Hit 5 straight 8 irons followed by 10 dead straight 6 irons!! Was previously pulling every thing left. Thanks Tom!!!
Most of your videos are easily followed, but not this one. Instead of starting with all of the wrong moves, why not start with “this is the right grip, and I’m going to tell you why.” Then show the wrong grips, followed by a recap of the correct grip.
I can go outside the line and inside with my square to target trail hand.
It doesn't automatically change my swing plane…
You suddenly swing the club perfect by changing your trail hands position. Not sure it is that simple.
Tom- should I keep my trail arm straight as I come into the through swing?
Just took this tip, a junk golf ball, and my 5 Iron to the back yard and hit the straightest 5 Iron shot I’ve ever hit. Awesome video, Thank you.
teach me master
cant wait to try this! Still using your chipping video works great!
I just last week implemented a Rory type grip with the top hand strong, I do thumb wrapping under, it creates a nice pocket for the strong right bottom hand, right wrist snugged up on left thumb pocket. Also your "lay down sally" backswing really helped me swing toward the target instead of down, helping get the ball in the air with a more… easier to hit center face type swing. The other thought I was experimenting with was laying the hands/driver 1-2" lower to the ground at address, it kind of reinforces a low sweeping backswing. I'm a 40 handicapper so take it for what it is, I drive like 200 yards with a 90-100 ish swing speed. Thanks for your vids, good stuff.
Great video. Don’t think about right hand much
This is very interesting. I must say, your advice contradicts many good instructors’ advice to have trail arm facing up. That doesn’t mean you are wrong of course. My grip is quite strong with both hands, and that gets me in trouble (pull hooks, too much inside-out, heeling and shanking shots) so I’m eager to try your approach. Thank you!
Super stuff. On one of your videos you mentioned that your grip pressure is about 8 out of 10. But your right hand seems very light when you put it over your left. Can you elaborate on this ? Thanks and keep up the wonderful work !
The best video and advise I ever heard for beginners!!! Thank you
Incredible. Unbelievable. Amazing. And, so simple. So obvious. Of course. Ridiculously no duhn. Ridiculous. Also I moved the club handle on the trail arm 1/8 inch onto the pinkie finger pad.
This is my 3rd yr golfing, and I just learned there's handicaps higher than 18? 😅 i thought i was at the highest handicap when I got established for league.
Tom;
On another video you mentioned tucking the trail elbow which made me think and to try to keep the trail hand under pointing upward soon after the backswing started rotating hand and swing around the body. This caused a lot of duffs and missed shots in all directions and a habit of lifting up especially with the driver so I was discouraged. I go from duffing shots to a great shot without knowing why? The key is I hope to keep the trail hand straight then angled slightly down half position transitioning to hand slight angled up toward sky with a wrist cocked up and trail hand actually now angled upward. The thought that the hand tells the club face position is great.I need to do this without thinking about it. It would be helpful to explain the wrist cocked position more fully as well. Great video and so much to absorb but done carefully.
Tom do a break 50 episode with Bryson
Your WORSE video ever!!!! To much talk, and cameras bad positioned, hard to see the hands!!!!
I need to check my grip per your comments..I think I follow your recommendation however not entirely….get back soon with an update..thanks Dr. Crispy!!
I can't get a grip of this game
You should do a go fund me to build a simulator and studio setup, I’m sure you’ll hit your goal. Do it with the new garmin and save $30k
From the neutral right hand position you can also exert force properly down the shaft through impact. Ever great striker does this, and many of them combined it with a very strong left hand grip.
Best golf swing coach on the Internet
Excellent work.
Thank You.❤
Thanks Tom for an extremely insightful video.
Another great video bro. I changed my usual set up of starting off with gripping left hand first because I noticed pros set up with trail hand. My grip is so solid now and trail hand isn't coming off and the trigger finger gives more power. Thanks from Australia
Excellent information! Thanks Tom!
Feels so weird with my jumbo grip. Once tucked elbow only super strong feels right . But need to work on this great session Tom
By far the most important and never understood topic… Someone at thr range last week was trying to teachbme about this… But your video, as always, makes it easy to incorporate changes 👍👍
You are absolutely right! Most of the beginners I see , don´t care about the grip. This is mostly the first thing, I tried to explain, when I see them cursing on the driving range, and I ask, they like to hear an advice. I don´t know whats wrong with this "generation" , mostly elder people, 50 up, which make a free taster course, and then they think— thats all. When I asked them, did you read a golf practice book, maybe from Ballesteros, Jack Nicklaus, Ben Hogan, Tiger aso. they say, NO, why should I…you look yt golf lesson videos? (I ALWAYS RECOMMEND YOUR VIDEOS TOM) aah no! So I think, ok, you don´t like to play good golf. You just like killing time, and you don´t have the interest to dive deep into the sport. This is very annoying to me. Whats wrong with this kind of people ???
The grip is all I care about… dictates my whole swing.
Had to watch this video 5 times to get the right feel. But as they say slowly slowly catchy monkey. Well worth taking your time over this to get it right. Thank you Tom for for another excellent tip.
Great explanation, Tom. I've never heard the grip talked about in the these terms. Thanks
Great advice I have a bad slice will be adjusting my grip and hopefully will start getting the ball in play more often
Hey Tom my teacher has just change my grip to this a few wks ago.
I was pull shots left.
I had always questioned my left grip but never my right hand for some reason as I thought it was OK
I now hit my irons straight..
Need to get my driver sorted next. 😢. Great video Tom
