🚨 Did Odyssey just copy LAB Golf?! 🚨
In this video, we put the brand-new Odyssey Square 2 Square Max Stripe and Max 1 putters head-to-head against the LAB DF3—the putter they look almost identical to.

Can Odyssey’s “copycat” designs keep up with LAB’s original zero-torque tech? Or are they just imitations riding LAB’s coattails? We find out which putter actually performs better.

I mean, they’re not even trying. They’re not even trying. I’m a one-of-a-kind kind of guy. That’s why I love my DF3. There is nothing else on the market like it. Nothing. That comboed with the Tour Response Stripe. I’m hitting putts and I’m making putts. One of a kind. Proprietary. One of a kind. Just like my square to square max stripe. Almost identical to your putter. Literally exact same. Where’d you get that? And my chrome soft stripe. Literally the exact same as your ball. Like your setup routine that you think is one of a kind. I’m literally have the exact same thing in my hand. What? Get that out of here. Literally the exact same. I don’t like it. I ain’t never been about that. You know I ain’t about that. I like my my stuff OG original. So I mean just just pure shameless and just absolutely ripping them off. There’s no doubt about it. All right, let’s get the elephant out of the room. Let’s talk some copycat issues first. Um, we’re going to give you our takes on that. Today, we’re out on the actual golf course to test these on an actual putting green out of the showroom. And, um, we’re going to talk some copycat stuff. Then, we’re actually going to review these. Yeah. And actually get down to business. So, talk to me about copycat. Let’s hold this up side by side. I mean, look at these angles. Yeah. That’s rounded. That’s sharp. I guess this has a hole. That’s not a hole. Here they have the stripe. I did find one difference. Their stripe doesn’t go all the way to the back. Oh, [Music] yep. Yeah. Look at that. So, I mean, just just pure shameless. This is their new golf ball, the chrome soft stripe, the tailor made. I mean, it’s no secret these guys are stealing each other’s ideas left and right, and they just do it absolutely shamelessly. Now, when I say these guys, I mean the golf industry. Yes. Cuz in Taylor or in uh cousin Callaway’s defense, they came up with the Pix idea. Yes. Callaway did. Yeah. So, it’s no secret that in the golf industry, if something is working and something is selling, people are just going to rip it off. I mean, nowadays, almost all I shouldn’t say almost all, but a lot of drivers look identical. Yeah. My thoughts are obviously they know labs are selling like crazy. I think it’s like a 10e lead time right now. if we put in a custom order. So, the shape is working, but you could have changed it. Like, you have you have a a billion dollar company. You have engineers out the wazoo. You could have came up with something that was a little different shaped. That being said, this technology, this shape mixed with this face, I mean, game recognized game, I think this putter might be lethal. Well, that’s what I was going to say when we actually get into the review. the smart face insert actually might have a big advantage, but we’ve um had some guys that we’ve worked closely with came come from Callaway and they talk a lot about how much pride and joy Callaway takes into their R&D. Yeah, bro, there ain’t no R&D going on here when it comes to shape. Yeah, when it comes to the shape of it, it’s it is literally uh photocopy. So my thing is is like driver heads, you know, certain technology where you put the weight forward or shiftable weights, you know, everyone copied that when Tailor made came out with shiftable weights. Yeah. But what makes this so weird is there is that’s like an alien putter. There’s literally nothing like there’s nothing nothing even close to it on the marketplace. No. And people usually complain about this shape until now. People are like, “Oh, you’re putting with frying pan.” Okay. So, so let’s talk advantages to Lab, advantages to the Odyssey, and then let’s put have a put off. Yeah. So, first of all, we know that both of these companies are going with the center mount. Um, it’s going to be the zero torque, the center mount shaft. It’s going to have the twoderee lean in both of them. The only thing that’s proprietary to Lab and their putter is the grip has the built-in twoderee lean. So, your hands are still square. The Callaway doesn’t have that. That’s just a straight grip. So, the advantage to Lab is going to be full customization. Yeah. Different shaft options, a crapload of different grip options. Yeah. And then different color options on the face and then different alignment options. Yes. Like piles of them. Yes. So, if you’re into customization, way way more customization with Lab. Yeah. But Lab is going to cost a lot more. Pricing isn’t even released out of yet, but these top out usually at like$450. Okay. the Odyssey putter. So, we don’t know exactly where it’s going to fall in pricewise, but the lab, a custom lab putter, depending on your shaft, can be anywhere from from $500 to to $800, $900 if you fully trick it out. Advantages to Odyssey, the biggest advantage here is this AI smart face. Yes, I puted with this for a while. Basically, this is a variable thickness face. If you were to open this up, it basically helps on offc center strikes. And putting with this for a while, this does work. So, I have a feeling this will feel better off of the face. With the DF3, one of the things I don’t like is it kind of has like a tinginess off the face that is not my favorite. However, they have cured that problem with the Oz putter with the milled face in face. That’s my favorite lab putter. Yeah. So, now let’s roll with you. See what we think here. I guess I guess we’re done. See much movement in this. Yeah. A little uh right to left. Do you want my take on on zero torque putters since they’re all the craze right now? I think probably this length and in they can help you. Yeah. Because you don’t twist the face as much can help keep the putter on line. Yeah. However, I think there’s better putters out there for longer distance putting. Yeah. So, what do you prefer? Do you prefer something that can be more consistent from this length or something that’s better at coing it up to the hole? That’s a big question and that’s how accurate you are. I’m nowhere near the flag even if I hit a green. So, I like something that can cozy it up. Yeah, personally, but if I’m out here shooting darts and like this is the putter length I have, putt length I have. Wow, that is really soft off the face. Really soft. Yeah, but you missed it though. I know, but it felt good. Oh, I thought it was a putt off. Sorry, that’s my my bad. No, this is a putter review. You said we’re going to do a putt. And I prefer the stripe, by the way, versus the solid. Really? Yeah. Let’s try another one. Blasted right past it. So, it’s less tingy, you’re saying? I think it’s less tingy off the face, but like softer feel with that insert. Just left it in the heart again. Yeah. Just can’t get it there. Hear that? Can you hear that difference in the putters? I I Let’s try a shorter one. Yeah, I can. You want to put the pin in and we’ll try some long lag putts up. So, we know we know these putters work great from inside 10 ft. Pace is obviously a big thing. Uh we’ve been dumped on with rain, so the greens are nice and soft. Trev, I’m going to pace out maybe 30 yards. Okay. You mind if I do that? So, putt up the slopes. 90footer. 30 yards is going to be long putt. So, you know how I said I like this stripe better? I’m starting to reconsider that cuz I feel like um it’s like too too much of a chunk visually, like contrast going on. Is it a ball’s width? Is that what it is? Yeah, maybe just a tick bigger. Yeah. So, for guys that struggle with straight back, straight forward, and that’s what they’re after, that might help them. Yep. So, if one of us makes this putt, I have five sets of Rory irons on order. If you make this putt, you can have a set. Okay. 30 yards, 90 footer. Nice distance. Oh, it breaks left at the end. That took some big old hops. All right. All right. If you make this, I’ll let you keep one of your own Rory sets. Okay. That one that you already specked out to yourself. Yeah, you can have it. I’m just going to go right at the flag, I think. Yeah. Double breaker. Well, it’s short, first of all. Wow. Good pace, actually. I take that back. Okay. Now, who makes that putt? Whoever two putts the the has has the better putter. Yep. Alex, walking interview. What do you think? I like the customization on the lab and I like original ideas. There is something to that. That’s big. There is something to that. Like it’s going to be one of those things now where it’s like like a lab. Oh, it’s like a lab. When you’re the first, like I’m I’m not getting political or anything. I’m just using them as an example. Like when Tesla came out with the all electric car and then other electric cars come out, what did people say? Like a Tesla. This is the same thing. Oh, it’s like a lab. That’s just what happens when you’re an OG of a cool concept. We both had about the same distance control. I think I’m out. Okay. Trying to putt, man. Don’t they know we’re doing a review? No respect. I’ll be honest, I don’t like these putters. I puted with the DF3 for three holes on a trip. Lasted three holes. All right. Well, we both suck at golf. We’ve realized that. What are the chances? Let’s try up here one more time. What are the chances of us two putting from 90 ft? That’s it. Can’t be statistically. It can’t be high. Pretty much into the rough now. Let’s see how they do with the Texas wedge. Anyways, I just can’t get past the shape. I can’t do it. So, I ordered an Oz cuz I want I like the concept, but I need more of a traditional shaped head. And this and either brand just doesn’t do it for me. Okay, that was really bad. Yeah, it’s the putter. I hate the shape of [Music] it. Still not great. Let me just clean this up. All right, let’s get up and down. All right, put some pressure on to drain this. [Music] No, just can’t get it there today. I don’t think we made a single putt in that. No, that’s a rough video. I just made a 4-footer. That’s a rough video to do for the audience and none of us made a single putt. Go ahead, do your outro. I’m going to try to trade the putt. I want to talk about it real quick. One more thing. Trade me. So, I think we all know the AI1 technology in this shape by Odyssey. It feels better standing over. I think the Odyssey is the biggest putter on tour right now. Maybe that was last year’s statistics. Fact check me on that, guys, in the comment section. This putter is going to do extremely well. I think we’re probably going to sell a ton of them. Golf Galaxyy’s going to sell a ton of them. Doesn’t sit right with the shape of it and everything. That aside, it’s a great putter. The tech is great. It’s going to help you in your putting game. Did you make it? Yeah. You didn’t hear me say I made it. No. I think the biggest thing this is going to come down to is price. Obviously, price is going to release the same day as this video. We don’t have pricing yet. If it comes in a ton lower, like half the price, 2/3 of the price. That’s going to be something that you as the consumer are going to have to figure out whether or not you’re going to get behind. So, which one do you like quickly? I prefer the DF3. I like the DF32. I like the ball pickup. I like that it’s original concept and just I like the customization. Yeah. Super sick. I don’t want that. I’m a tailor made. I have tailor made. New York Callaway. Forget. All right.

  1. Love the content gents, but there is nothing worse than someone who uses a Stripe ball and doesn't line the ball up properly. The stripe is there for a reason!!

  2. I had the Odyssey S 2 S and just couldn't get it to the hole and didnt really notice any difference on the short stuff. I have had a LAB and the Allan and i just feel that the putter almost wants to control your stroke, i never felt i could put a normal stroke on it. The main issue with the Odyssey though is the loft thats presented if you hold the putter naturally. You have to forward press it quite a bit which for me felt horrible. They need a press grip like LAB and PXG have.

  3. My kids got me a s2s #7 earlier this year. I was excited to try it out. Had it in the bag for my first 6-7 rounds of the year. Then, my old, worn out Ping went back in and the #7 is out. It felt too soft, and I couldn’t get used to the overall feeling of it.

  4. Bro, that DF3 costs like 1100 with that TPT shaft 😂😂😂 odyssey wins based on that alone… DF2.1 is their best playing putter… feels on rails

  5. About time Tour Edge, Cleveland, Wilson, Maltby etc came out with $200 zero torque putters.
Jeez some just look like standard putters with the plumbers neck on backwards

  6. This is the reason you spend $500 on lessons and buy the year old $100 putter. For the average golfer it is the putting stroke and not the putter!

  7. I know they have to pretty good putters but i shit you not every youtuber ive watched use the lab df3 has been horrendous for some weird reason 😂

  8. Interesting – if the LAB was that good – most PRO’s would be using it??
Gimmicks, smokescreens, mirrors (And ego boost) for people willing to spend north of $500 for a putter. Ridiculous and laughable!!

  9. Hey I had a question for my bag I have Jpx 925 hot metal pro irons and a 3 wood and 5 wood at 15 degrees and 18 degrees, I want to maybe replace the 4 and 5 iron with a 4 and 5 hybrid would the gapping be good or how Should I go about this, I would have like a 3 wood 5 wood then 4 hybrid at like 20 degrees and the 5 hybrid at like 23 degrees would all of that work together or would there be smt better.
    Thanks

  10. Boy am I glad you guys do reviews and not teaching videos.

In all seriousness, love the content… even if you’re disgusting and like the packers.

  11. Don’t understand why you think Odyssey has done anything wrong copying LAB. Virtually every other golf company copied famous top selling Ping putter designs for years and still do.

  12. I only judge a putter by how well I putt shorter putts, can putt with anything on long putts. You are going to miss 80 to 90 percent of long putts anyway

  13. I think Odyssey in trying not to obviously copy other zero torque putters have missed a trick on this and the original S2S model. They obviously tried to save money with the cheap looking shaft and lack of a forward press grip! This new one doesn't even have the hole to pick up the ball.

  14. Sold a oz and just got this odyssey! It’s sweet and not as obnoxious feeling as df3 for some reason at least for me
