Worcester ranks among the nation’s most coveted golf destinations, attracting both locals and tourists to its pristine fairways. However, this sport often sits in the rough when it comes to accessibility, with greens fees putting it out of bounds for many families.
But a game-changing partnership between Bank of America and nonprofit Youth on Course is giving young players a shot. Through the recently announced “Golf With Us” program, kids can enroll to play $5 rounds of golf at over 2,200 participating golf courses nationwide, including five courses in Worcester County.
“I’m proud that Bank of America is helping open doors for local youth through Golf With Us,” said Mike Garand, President of Bank of America, Worcester. “By creating more opportunities for Worcester kids to play golf here in our backyard, we’re investing in their growth and making a meaningful impact in our community through the power of sports.”
The courses in Worcester County taking part in the program are Cyprian Keyes Golf Club (Championship Course), Cyprian Keyes Golf Club (Par 3), Dudley Hill Golf Club, Berlin Country Club, and Indian Meadows Golf Club.
Unlike team sports, golf doesn’t require exceptional speed, strength, or a particular physical build to excel – making it a perfect match for all kids. The benefits of golf extend well beyond the scorecard: walking the course provides aerobic exercise, and practicing that perfect swing enhances hand-eye coordination. Young golfers also develop patience, focus, and strategic thinking as they navigate each hole.
The social advantages are equally impressive. Out on the links, kids can make new friends while building self-confidence, learning persistence, and understanding the importance of following rules – life skills that transfer to the classroom and beyond.
The Golf with Us membership includes more than just discounted play. Young golfers also receive a registered handicap index in the United States Golf Association’s Golf Handicap Information Network (GHIN) system, plus ongoing development and learning opportunities to help them stay on course.
This nationwide program creates incredible access to what has traditionally been considered a more exclusive sport. The deadline to tee up for this opportunity is May 24.
