I want to go back to the first tea on Thursday cuz I heard they announced his name and Rory hit and uh something weird might have happened. So get to the tea there. Obviously there’s a pecking order and where you stand on the tea, right? I figured that out pretty quickly. I was going to be in the back most of the day. Um so I get there and like he hits it. He pulls driver and it’s not driver. smashes it and it goes up in the air and I was like and I was like I literally like looked around and I was like no not it not it daddies don’t clap. Also very excited that we are going to be up at the Fanatics Fanfest up in New York here in a few weeks. How about it? With a very special guest joining us, which we will not reveal. Major accomplishment. Yes. That we will be discussing. All right. Well, let’s get into the golf. this past week, the CJ Cup, Byron Nelson, my old stomping grounds outside of Dallas at TPC, Craig Ranch, and Scotty Sheffler went in as the favorite and uh I would say if we’re using football terms, he covered by quite a bit. 31 underpar, won by eight. Good news for all the people that were a little concerned with Scotty having not won yet this year. Seems like he’s all right. The fast ball is still there. I mean, 31, I would have bet a trillion dollars he was going to finish at minimum 32 after he got to 32. I was like he’ll stay there. Birdie 18 came back 31. Nice. Won by eight. Shout out Eric Vanroyan. You’re eight down going into Sunday. Have virtually 0% chance I think. But you go out and shoot 30. You give do the one thing you can probably do to give yourself a fighting chance and you pick up zero. I mean dude he was the leader in every statistical category imaginable outside of total driving which might make it even more impressive. Uh his putter was phenomenal. We always talk about what would he doesn’t have to be a great putter but man if he is that’s when he wins by a lot. There you go. There’s one. That’s an example of it. It was a clinic, man. I walked three of the four days with him. And I know the golf course isn’t hard. It did have rough. Greens were soft because all the rain they got. You still got to put the ball in the hole. You got to hit fairways. You got to hit greens. You got to make putts. And he did it by far better than anyone. I have not seen him in full flight like that. I don’t know ever. Like that was as good as it gets. He shoots 63 on Sunday with a bogey on three from 135 yards with a gap wedge that he came up short on. And then on 17, 135 yards with a pitching wedge that he came up short on and didn’t get it up and down. I mean, he shot 63. He could have easily been 61 18 or even better. Yeah, part 18. But Frank Nablo threw out something great on the broadcast. I thought I mean, Scotty Sheffler shoots 31 under par. You take the other 155 competitors in the field and take the best round from them each day. They get to all just play best ball. Their best round most of them. Scotty Sheffller ties. They tie Scotty Sheffler. I mean, that’s just absurd. That could be the new game. All right, guys. Here’s what we’re gonna do. All you guys just play, try to shoot as low as you can. We’re gonna play all against Scotty. I believe by the way, the only other time he’s heard of this happening where people actually look at it was Tiger at the US Open in 2000 when he won by 15. Tiger, I believe, would have either won or lost by one, but it was like it was close if you took the best score from the field each day. That’s just that’s that’s a whole another level. And that’s the most dominant performance we’ve seen in golf since you and I have been old enough to know what’s going on, more or less. Yeah, that US Open that Pebble and that’s basically what Scotty just did. Granted, I know Rory wasn’t there. Some of the bigname guys, it wasn’t the Gracefield, but I don’t care that he was at 32 under with a couple holes left. Like, put them all out there. It don’t matter. He might not win by eight, but he ain’t losing. He shot 22 under on the front nine. The front seem to have figured out. He birdied every single hole in the front nine through two rounds. It’s hard to do. I mean, like sevens, 230 yard par three, four, not an easy par three. I mean number eight pretty difficult par4 it’s 400 I think it’s 505 yards now like to go out there and you birdie every single one of them in just two attempts through there it’s it’s ridiculous that was a special week for Scotty at a tournament that has meant so much to him I mean this is one they showed the awesome pitcher when he was 6 years old with Mr. Nelson. Uh he grew up going to that golf tournament, chasing all the pros around for autographs. Makes his first start on the PGA Tour when he’s in high school with his sister on the bag there. And then makes his pro debut there also with his sister on the back. So it all came full circle for him to win this event. I know it meant so much. I mean, obviously the Masters is up here, but I would say that walk coming down 18 on Sunday at the Byron Nelson will be probably the next on that list of most special walks up 18 for a win that he’ll ever have in his career. I mean, he got emotional at the end. This is a guy’s won majors. He’s won Olympic medals. Like, you know, he’s done huge things. This isn’t in terms of like the hierarchy of accomplishments up there with those and yet he still got emotional on it. And by the way, props to all the Dallas guys for showing up supporting their hometown event. Like, it’s not a signature event. It’s right before signature event. It’s not the biggest tournament in the world, but they all go out there and did it. I I feel like they were all there outside of Wills Alurus who had to WD for health purposes. Um, if you don’t support it as a local, I don’t know how you expect other people to. So, props to them for getting out there and doing it. I mean, you take Scotty away from this thing. We got stress. It’s different. Jordan Speed with a 62 on Sunday to finish fourth. Good to see him playing well. Ton of people out there following him around, but obviously the show with Scotty and Yeah. And I’ve been very passionate about this. You’re It’s your hometown event. You should play it. Like, he’s skipping the truest championship, which is a signature event. 72man field, no cut, $20 million purse because he doesn’t give a [ __ ] about money, okay? He wants to go out there and win. The Byron Nelson will if he is able to play. I mean, last year his baby boy was being born that week. If he is able to play, he will be in the field at the Byron Nelson because it means that much to him. I mean, he loves the crowd. He has so many friends and family out there. It it doesn’t matter if the purse is a million dollars, 20 million, 100 million. He’s going to play the Byron Nelson. And therefore, I’m sure the people at Truist aren’t that happy that he’s not playing a signature event where they put up so much money. But look, it’s the way the schedule goes. He’s going to play Byron Nelson. He’s going to play the PGA. Obviously, it’s a major. He doesn’t really like playing the week before a major. And after that, you got Colonial, which is another event that he loves just down the road that he can stay at home, followed by the Memorial. So, scheduling wise, it’s it’s tough, but I just love the fact that he goes out there and he tees it up every year at the Byron Nelson. Yep. Tougher the truest. Good news for the PGA Championship though because now in the last month you got Rory winning. I don’t know if you heard about that. Won the Masters career grand slam too. Accomplished that. Uh Scotty Shuffler now winning dominant fashion. Uh on the other side Bryson Shambo just won on Liv. He’s been around in the most recent majors. Always playing a factor. Oh by the way JT just won come back. Jordan Spe showing signs of life. There’s a lot of good potential storylines um heading into Quail Hall right now. Xander obviously defending champion trying to go back to back on it. Like it’s leading up to a potentially great PJ. Look, Xander’s finished runner up when it was the Wells Fargo, now the truest championship the last two times at Quail Hollow. Um JT won his first PJ championship there. You mentioned Bryson. John Rom I know hasn’t played that well in majors, but I believe it’s now he’s 19 for9 finishing in the top 10 over on Liv. I know he’s fired up. Got a chip on his shoulder to play well. I just hope it lives up to the hype because I’m getting very excited about it. And our show next week is going to be a PGA Championship preview show. And I am very excited for this major championship at an awesome golf course in an awesome city where the fans show up. And looking ahead to the weather right now, Sle, it is going to be hot. It’s going to be in the mid to upper 80s. Sunshine all week long. I mean, this could be an unbelievable PGA championship. I mean, golf hardly ever. We try to create storylines or rivalries or things, but it just doesn’t play out that way to where like Sunday major championship. Here’s the two guys that we had circled, you know, like you get in football and basketball and all that. We almost had it. We kind of did have it at the Masters with Bryson and Rory. I mean, that’s if you’re going to pick two names at the start of the week, that would have been it would have been two of the three. Like Scotty Sheffller, I think in a perfect world would have been in the, you know, second to last group or somewhere up there. But right now, you got all three of them playing good. And um hopefully, man, I take it. I’d take two of them being in one of the last couple groups going into a Sunday. Uh if I could do it right now cuz the Masters, we actually got it. And guess what? The block party continues. Michael Block is back in the field. Had a good tuneup this week at the grass clippings, too. If you can play the clip, you could play the PJ. Well, that was at night. The PJ Championship is going to be during the day. And I mentioned the sun is going to be shining. So, guess what? To protect these beautiful blue eyes, I’m going to wear these little Shady Rays sunglasses sleeves because Shady Rays offers high performance sunglasses built with golfers in mind. The Green Wolf collection has semi-polarized lenses to cut glare while increasing clarity. Enhances contrast on course. Tint design to enhance readability. Lightweight, comfortable with rubber nose pads and snap pin hinges so they stay in place during your swing. 30-day risk-free returns and exchanges. Head to shadyrays.com and use code subpar for 35% off sunglasses. Look good, bug. Like robo code. There’s some nice scenery around Quail Hollow. I’m going to be needing these bad boys. Advantages to keeping his eyes concealed and safe from UV rays. All right, now let’s switch to a little nighttime golf. The grass clippings. Big one. You and the cat Drew KDson getting ready for the fourball. A little tuneup. Um I saw some clips on Instagram. I know you didn’t play your best, but everything I’ve heard is it was a hell of a time. Dude, it’s surpassed what I thought it was. Like just parking and I’m like, what are we going to here? There was so many people out there. It was fun. They do a great job with the golf court. They bake it out. Some of the pins, dude. I mean, we’re talking former tour. You can have 8 ft if you get it. They’re a little questionable at times. I mean, you hit it 6 in past the hole, you might be chipping from 40 yards on your next shot, and it could happen back to back easy or else you lag. Um, we didn’t have our best stuff. I feel like we had we got going at spurts and then just kind of flatlined, you know, wouldn’t make if we hit good shots, we’d miss the putts and or we wouldn’t be hitting it close enough that we were we were lagging. Finished what 11 under. Pretty [ __ ] performance, but little tuneup. Nice to get out there um for the fourball where we really really got to go. So, prep has officially begun. But shout out to the guys at Grass Clippings, man. That event, the the music at night, I mean, it goes. Who won? Uh Kurt Byum’s son, Jake Byum. Um and his partner last name Watkins. Don’t know who. Didn’t know. And by the way, like ran away. They shot 19 under including maybe the greatest butt ever hit in the history of mankind on the 18th hole. And this pin that was diabolical. He made it from like 40 ft. Had to come in sideways. If you miss, it goes off the green. But I think they won by three, which is they had some hard like that was really good golf. I think they shot 12 the last day. That’s That’s golfing. golfing. Good to see some of the boys. Block was in the house. Peter Thomasulo, John M. Tamasulo according to the leaderboard. Tamasulo according to the leaderboard. Paige was running around doing um you know kind of like hosting. She hosted the like the draft party. It’s a fun event, man. They’re going to be another one. I think the next one’s in August and it’s at um uh Goat Hill. Yeah, Goat Hill out in California, which will be sweet. All right, so there’s a lot of action, golf action in the Scottsdale area. And if you’re here this week, right over here, TPC Scottsdale, the Champions Course, the Epson Tour is heading to town, which is the future of the LPGA. The Carile Arizona Women’s Golf Classic is in town Thursday through Sunday if you want to go check it out. Carlile LPGA.com for your tickets. One day ticket $12, 4day ticket $36. Juniors 17 and under are admitted free with a ticketed adult. Free admission for active duty and retired military. Once again, go to carilelpga.com. They’re going to have a cocktail and and craft brew fest at the golf course Saturday, May 10th from 1 to 4. Got a junior clinic on Sunday, May 11th at 2 p.m. And also shout out to Carile. They have taken this event to a whole another level. Most of the purses on the Epson tour,000 to 300,000. The Carile 400,000. So shout out to them doing great things. This is the future of the LPGA. Go check out some great golf over here at TPC Champions. Yep. As a man who spent most of his time on developmental developmental tours. Shout out Carlile for juicing that pot. People got to eat. You know what I mean? Let’s get paid a little bit. All right. Good job by them. Um, we’re going to get paid with our fanatic segment here in a little bit where we make our picks this week for the truest championship up at Philly Cricket, which basically like you’re an honorary member. So, if you don’t hit your bet this week, I’m going to be rather embarrassed. But one thing before we get going here, okay, speak to me. It was a little tough for me this weekend. Okay. I’m in my hometown, Dallas, Texas. Flew over there on Sunday night. Got to go to um the Dallas Stars hockey game. Sit with my man Brad Alers, the president of the Stars. Brendan Morrow, um Travis Fredericks from the Dallas Cowboys was there. Uh awesome. You know, you know, hell no. You know, I love my hockey. Okay, but this was game five. They went out there. They take a 3-2 series lead heading to Colorado. Your boys were losing in the third period. Come back, end up winning game six. So, now we got the decisive game seven. Nothing better than game seven in the NHL playoffs. Okay, it’s gonna be Saturday night. I cannot wait. I’m in town for the Byron Nelson. Our airtime is 2 to 5 p.m. on CBS. They announce puck drops 7:00 p.m. No problem. And then old Mother Nature had different ideas. Rolls in, drops felt like 3 ft of rain. We got all these delays and everything. Then we come to find out we’re staying on until that last putt drops. Last putt drops on 18 on Saturday, which happened to be Scotty Sheffller in the last group. Puck drop at 7. The last putt dropped at 8:15. I had to give away my tickets. Didn’t get to go see. But good news is my boys rallied down two nothing 13 minutes to go. Came back, beat your Colorado Avalanche 4-2 to advance. But that one was a tough one for me. You know, my job comes first. I’m out there working hard. But it was killing me that just 30 minutes down the road, game seven, which doesn’t get any better than that. So, when did you pick it up on TV? I got back to the hotel right as the third period started. Oh, so you got just the best part. Yeah. Yeah. But, uh, still tough. I mean, I’m still gutted over it. My abs, you know what I mean? Luckily, we got that title a couple years back. So, we’re still rolling on that. But, uh, it hurts me as a hockey player slashdieard. I had a nice little thing going because Brad Alers um I I sit with him in most of the games now that I don’t live there. And when we got off to the hot start in game five, I believe we’re up three nothing. He’s like, “Dude, do you realize like you’re undefeated sitting in here?” I’m like, “Yeah, put me on the payroll.” I’m happy. And then good news, bad news. I’m glad they won. But he texted me after the game. He’s like, “Guess we didn’t need you.” I was like, “Damn it. I thought it was all me.” Yeah. Offer withdrawn. Yeah. No, I’ve still got a chance to get in. Yeah. You’ll be full retail from now on. All right. All right. Well, let’s get to our picks this week for the truest championship up at Philly Qriket Club Golf Course I know absolutely nothing about other than it’s in Philly and I’m probably going to get abused all week by the wonderful Philadelphia Eagle fans. But you get a warm welcome. Wear some Kelly Green out there. I don’t care what CBS puts you in. Just wear that green. Bunch of gods for you. It’s going to be good. It’s going to be good. It’s going to hurt. And I’m actually going to George Strait and Chris Stapleton concert at that Lincoln Financial Field on Saturday night. Great music, shitty stadium, but whatever. It’s going to be a lot of fun. Wow. I don’t know. Feels like a betrayal just to even step foot on those grounds. All right. Well, make sure you go download the Fanatic Sports book so you can join us on these picks this week for the truest championship. Who did you have last week? Uh, I had a loser. I had my man Sunjm who just didn’t really get it going. Was making a move on Sunday. It was three under par early and I made three bogeies and I end up shooting one under. No good. Um I had Steven Joerger came out the gate seven under sitting in like fourth getting messes. What a call. Stephen Joerger finishes the week minus 6 56 just a gradual slide down. Yeah, one over. People are shooting 62s on the rag out there and uh yeah, didn’t quite have it Friday through Sunday. I was excited after Thursday. That’s what’s great about the game of golf sleeves. It’s on to next week. That’s right. Moving on. Always next shot. signature event, 72 guys. No Scotty Sheffller. Rory Mroy is your betting favorite right around 4 to one. So, do what you want with that. But like I said, I don’t know much about this golf course. I’m just going off a guy who I know is starting to feel more and more comfortable with his game. Starting to play really well. Coming off a final round 62 at the Byron Nelson. I believe he’s got three or four straight top 20s. I’m going to take him as a top 10 bet at plus 250. The golden child, Jordan Spe. Interesting. There we go. Yeah, nice to see that 62. If he could parlay that into another good week here, get that going into the PJ championship, that would be awesome. I’ll tell you, I do know this golf course a bit. Um, then you should win. Not overly long. 71 7200 yards, which is short by PJ Tour standards. The rough doesn’t have to be long because the greens, I would imagine they’ll have so firm it’s just it’s hard to even hold hold the green from the rough. uh might have a shot to like back pins, but I I truly think like yeah, distance of course is always great, but like I think you got to play from the fairway if you’re going to like really really get after this place. Um so I’m picking a guy that hits a lot of fairways, hits a lot of great iron shots, too. Not the longest in the world, but this is one of the places where I don’t think that matters as much. Give me Sept Straka. top 10 plus 350 except ax I’m real curious to see what they do like score-wise to this place cuz you know we talked to Bob Papa earlier today on the radio and he said dude the champions tour came out a few years back they one over one it was a major and they granted they’re hitting it much differently than these guys do but it the golf course is sweet but it’s old school green slope back to front rough great bunkers but it’s hard to stand the test of time with these guys now so I’m curious to see what they do yep I am too. I’ve heard both sides of it. Like I’ve heard they’re going to torch it because it’s so short and then when Bob Papa who’s actually been there and says they set it up like a major championship for a senior major championship one over par one. So I think they’ll show out and have the thing perfect and the greens will be bouncy and all this stuff. Uh there’s a lot of rain predicted early in the week. So we’ll see what happens there. And I think there’s rain on Friday as well. So it could be a little soft. So we could see a lot of birdies. But hey, I don’t know. I’ve never seen it. I’ll see it this week. It’s a sweet golf course when I get up there. Um, speaking of sweet golf, our man had a front row seat to it a couple of weeks ago, the Zurich Classic. We got former NFL quarterback turned professional caddy Derek Anderson joins us on this week’s subpar. All right, back for the first time. We got our guy, 14-year NFL vet turned pro jock on the PJ tour, recently on the bag for Kevin Chapel down at the Zurich, Derek Anderson back in the building. A skinny Derek Anderson, I might add, if you haven’t seen him in a while. Looking nice, Di. Lean. I like the hoodie. Uh hoodiey’s nice. Yeah. Extracurricular. Kind of my kind of my new jam. Got a package or a big box of them the other day. Maybe overbought, but it was good. Enjoy them. Uh before we get to the caddy, you just you just got back from Vegas. Little Post Malone and Jelly Roll concert. I love me some Post. I’ve never seen him in concert. Never seen Post. Uh-uh. It was good. Oh, you were gone for the concert. Yeah. Some of us work around here, guys. Yeah, tough [ __ ] It was incredible. Jelly roll. Uh, scented. I mean, he’s Speaking of down a few pounds, he’s down a few pounds. He looked good. Uh, just went with the wife, hung out, played a little cards. Concert was unbelievable. Stayed up too late. Came home and right back in the fire this morning. And, uh, here we go. Lights still on in Vegas. You laid them on for him? Uh, they paid me back a little bit this time. Oh, nice. Nice. Where was the concert? At the big show, Legent. Oh, nice. which is kind of we got to go to the sphere soon. That place I’ve heard some horses. We might do before, but yeah, I think it can get a little We might be going June 11th for Kenny Chzn. We’ve been discussing no shoes, no shirt, no problem. By the way, you asked where the concert was for Jelly Roll and Post Malone. Their their their tour is called the Big Ass Stadium Tour. So, what are you saying? Yeah. So, it’s not at T-Mobile. MGM. Pretty big. Hell of a name. 75,000 over I think is what they said. It was pretty good. That’s a big show. That postal I mean the guy doesn’t stop and he’s just doing the biggest shows in the world over and over. I don’t know how he they stay alive but most impressive things was his cigarettes that he was smoking while he was singing and like he would like walk up and disappear for a second and come back and like it’s like some guy was just like hand placing his cigarettes to him as he was going. Cigarettes and Bud Light just all day every day. That’s how you get skinny. Did he do any covers? I love like he he’s wild with some of the stuff he pulls out. They did like a m a mashup I guess like he did like a couple minutes or a minute and then played into another song and it wasn’t the man’s talented. Wasn’t I mean as a country music guy I’m a big fan of him coming over to this side. I could take him here in town a couple more times. That’d be good. We could make it easy. Yeah. Hard to book. Let’s talk a little New Orleans. Um on the bag for Kevin Chapel. the team event and Chappie was first alternate which I actually didn’t know this going into the tournament that if someone withdraws like the other person on the team doesn’t get to call in anybody and pick it’s whoever the first alternate is and Billy Horscha was scheduled to play with Tom Hogy messed up his hip and there’s you and Chappie are down in New Orleans. First of all, how the hell did he get you to go to New Orleans as being an alternate? I bet it wasn’t hard. No, I mean we had actually talked about doing it for like a little while. um had a couple times where it came up and I was like ah can I go and just with like kids sports and all the stuff it just kind of never panned out and he asked me on I don’t know like Saturday or Friday or something like hey I’m like first alternate maybe you know not likely somebody’s going to pull out and he’s like let’s he goes calls me Monday and he’s like hey we’re leaving Tuesday night can you go and I was like yeah and I was like what’s the worst thing that happens we go down there have a couple good dinners and maybe play some cards and come home uh so we got in late Tuesday night and then he banged on my door uh Wednesday morning at like 10:00 and I was still kind of snoozing. He’s like, “We got to go to the golf course.” And I’m like, “Okay.” I’m like, he’s like, “Billy Horsel’s out and we’re in.” And like doors closing. He’s like, “Oh, by the way, we’re playing with Maroy.” And I was like, and you’re a huge golf fan. Yeah. I mean, I love golf and obviously like Rory was at Whis Rock, I don’t know, was that two years ago, and I was up there and watched some hit balls and I was It’s different. Um, so then I was like obviously I was excited that we were in, but then to be in that group and I didn’t I mean I I didn’t really process what was going to happen. I was like, “Oh, cool. We’re playing through. Yeah, we’ll probably be on TV a little bit.” But I didn’t realize that Thursday they’re going to follow us around all day. Friday going to follow us around all day. And first te the first day like I was nervous. I’m not going to lie. I was nervous. I did uh cuz you’ve never done this before. Like not for real. No. Like I I had gone to Dubai and I cattied for Ben Curtis in like the Dubai Desert Classic back in the day uh practice round and like but didn’t do the tournament. I did the uh Waste Management Monday for him here at Pinnacle which was a blast but there’s nobody out there. Yeah. You’re not playing with Rory. No, not playing. Yeah. So, but yeah, it was it was a lot of fun though. I was my hands are sweating and got my juices flowing that’s for sure. Did either of them Rory or Shane know like are they football fans? Do they know who you were? Would you introduce yourself? Not really. I mean, Shane said something. We were like walking down two. I can’t remember how he essentially asked me like you’re a huge dude. Like, what the heck? Um, and I was like, “Oh, I played football.” And he was like, “Oh, oh.” He’s like, “I’m sorry. I don’t follow like American football.” And I was like, “Dude, I really doesn’t. I was good for one year. Well, you shouldn’t know me.” And, uh, he was like, “But it was good.” Like that on two was good. And then I think uh like 3T and then they kind of like started talking a little bit and I was like, “Okay, okay, we can do that. I’m gonna be fine.” And then it kind of got into the meat of the round and got a little nervous as we got going and got closer to the clubhouse things got a little sketchy a couple days but as you know we’d have like 150 200 and then as you got closer it was like nine all of a sudden there was like 10,000 people it felt like Yeah. I mean you’re playing with the guys down there the defending champions. I love that you’re like I didn’t know every shot would be on TV. Yeah. I mean Thursday morning PJ tour lives there. Friday. I’m walking with you boys all day, but I want to go back to the first tea on Thursday because I heard they announced his name and Rory hit and something weird might have happened. So, get to the tea. Obviously, there’s a pecking order and where you stand on the tea, right? I figured that out pretty quickly. I was going to be in the back most of the day. Um, so I get there and like he hits it. He pulls driver and it’s not driver. Smashes it and it goes up in the air and I was like and I was like I literally like looked around and I was like no it not it daddies don’t clap. No it was just but he smashed it though. What chap say when he think we’re trying to beat him. Yeah. Like I don’t think he even saw it but like from that after I did it I was like all right. And then we were like walking down the fairway and he was like let’s go. And I was I kind of got in like, “All right, we’re going to kick some ass today.” And I kind of got away from the I’m watching Rory. Yeah. Y’all did beat him the first day by a shot. I might have had something to do with that. Without question. Without question. Well, but you mentioned the driver off 10, which not many guys do hit driver there. And he hit it every single day and he throated it every single day like 347 or something down the middle. for you as a golf fan, like watching him drive the golf ball up close and personal. I mean, what’ you take away from it? He’s underneath the golf ball, like he’s hits it from underneath it, like it just goes like I was trying to explain it the other day at the baseball field to one of the dads. I’m like, “See the light pole? We’re on third base.” I’m like, “Look at the light pole.” I’m like, “It goes over that like very quickly.” Um, and it just stays in the air. It stays in the air like it’s it almost looks like it sticks to the face and then goes and then I’m like that’s coming down at like 240 and then it never comes down at 100 330. Yeah. When he hit on eight on Friday, no Thursday, right? It’s a drivable par4 for him. For him 360. He pulled driver out and everybody goes nuts and I was like where’s he hitting this like on the green? Yeah. Yeah. And then he’s like he’s going to try to hit it to the front edge and I was like, “Okay.” And he smashed and I was like, “Oh.” We get down there. I’m like, “There’s a pot bunker down there. That’s if he flew that palm bunker.” It’s like 320, right? 325. It plugged on the other side of it and like kicked once to the right. He then like Friday he smashed. And I said to him, I go, “Did you hit that one very good on yesterday?” And he was like, “Uh-uh.” I was like, “Got it.” And then Friday he was pin high and Shane chipped it to 4 in. And that’s like you’re a guy you’re from here. You’ve played with some of the world’s best. It’s like, you know, Windom, Rom, name it. Go down the list. Chappie, I mean, hits an incredible and just like for you to say like it’s a different level. That’s like like I mean that’s that’s saying something cuz now you’ve never seen a professional or a tour player hit it before, right? Like it’s just diff the sound’s different kind of the way he goes about it. Um I kind of was never like a huge Rory guy. Like I’ve always liked him. I’m impressed with his game, but like the way that he carries himself, the way that he that what he’s doing on the golf course, there’s intent. like you can see like I’m the guy, my bag goes here, I’m going to whack it. And like he wants to kind of have some of that tiger intimidation, but he doesn’t act like it. Like he he’s confident in what he’s doing, you know, just kind of the way they go about it, the way he hits it. The way, you know, he doesn’t [ __ ] He doesn’t, you know, a lot of guys are out there whack it, you know, throwing. He just kind of hit it. He hit one in the lake, Shane hit in the lake. They didn’t do nothing changed. They just kind of went about it and kept going. And I kind that’s what I thought was most impressive is like all the guys that we saw out there hit bad shots. Like I hit a lot of bad shots. I get pissed by the time I get to 13. I’m like I want to go in. Like you know what I mean? And these guys just kind of keep going. And I see you know we all play with those guys. Um it’s just different. Uh the consistency it’s different. The driver is something like nobody’s really Yeah. The driver is just different for him like all the other stuff. Yeah. A lot of the guys can do it. But you played in what was the Bob Hope many of times. So, you’ve played alongside all these players, but when that man tease it up, I remember seeing you that night in the casino and you just go, “How the [ __ ] does that little guy hit it so far?” It is hard, dude. You watch him walk by and you’re like, “No, no.” And then you watch him hit like, I’ve never seen anything quite like that. He is dense. You put your hand on his shoulder and it was like, “Oh, that kind of makes a little bit of sense.” Did you touch him? Did you touch him anywhere else? No, just just rock. How’s that ass? I’m guessing it’s pretty firm. You know, it has to work out. Got to be firm. does a lot of squats. Uh yeah, it was good though. It was super good. Did you guys talk like did did you and Rory chop it up at all? A little bit. Just kind of about some of the best stops on, you know, going around the tour like where he likes to go. Um I was very careful with what I said, who I like I can we just get to like what I did that I No, no. We’re going to get there. We’re talking about the good fun stuff. We’ll get to where you [ __ ] up here. Can we just get Give us some of your good [ __ ] that you I didn’t do anything bad bad. Um, what were you most proud of? Did you Did you pull any clubs? Did you read any putts? Or did you have a good little pep talk when he needed anything? So, we had a couple clubs that I got him on like that. I was like, “No, that’s not it. That’s not it. That’s not it.” But I didn’t really feel comfortable going like, “Hey, dude, it’s not a nine iron. Like, just hit the eight. Like, you can hit the eight. Like, don’t worry about it. You should use putter from the green.” That was We did hit some Yeah, we did hit some putters from off the fringe. That place is nasty. That’s a dicey chipping around there is disgusting. this like let’s talk about this for a second. Shane Row Shane Lowry’s short game is disgusting. Again, played with John Rom played with guys with ridiculous short games and like his ability to just nip it off the grain into the grain. I mean, it’s tight as this carpet and he’s and it’s and it’s not like he’s trying to get it to like three feet. He’s trying to make it every single one of them. Uh he made it on one the I think it was Thursday. Yeah. No, Friday he made it and I was like, “Oh.” And then after that, every single one that he hit was like a foot, two feet rolling over the edge of the hole. It’s just it’s crazy. Like I I guarantee I go down there and I try to chip tomorrow. It’s I chunk five. Well, I mean, even the tour pro they pull putter out there probably from off the green probably more than or as much as anywhere on tour. Then he’d pull a 60 with no stress. You have to like like we on what was Friday was alternate shot, right? Yeah. So on two like Kevin hit fivewood into two short right to that back right flag and you’re just totally boned right there and like Tom like he’s got unbelievable short game too and I like got down there I was like this is going to be impossible we might be chipping after this and he hit it to like three feet now he just dug it into the ground and spun up there and rolls down. We had like 12 feet and we made birdie and I was like I mean I’m knifing that in the trees. Yeah. People don’t realize because you don’t they don’t you can’t tell on TV like the grain and it’s soft normally too. It’s it’s terrifying if you’re a guy that doesn’t have much confidence. Even Shane Lowry who I put up there in the top five best short games on the PGA Tour. He he chunked a couple like throughout the week like weird ones that never happen. Right. I I think I said that is actually what I said when I came home. I think I think that they should have done a better job of explaining like how bad or how tough those conditions are for those guys. Like if you want to make scores or low uh or high I guess. Yeah. Shitty. You want to make higher scores, put them on that [ __ ] every week. Yeah. And make it tight and mow it down. And like old Bermuda, like just make them guess. Like even reading the greens. Like you got to read, you know, it’s it’s going this way getting close to the hole. The ball’s going to go that way a little bit. Even if the hole’s kind of set like that, which we’re not used to dealing with that. Oh, this Bermuda is getting so good now. Like it’s way less grainy than like if you go play like dumpy courses in the south and you got like grain is massive. It’s not like that anymore. Like people always say, you know, the scores are crazy low because of the golf ball and the driver and all that. Yeah, that’s part of it. But the condition of these places nowadays, I mean, you don’t find a blade of grass out of place. You look back to the old days, I mean, it was nasty soft Bermuda grain going all over the place, balls bouncing on the greens. I mean, this [ __ ] they’re pool tables every week out there now, right? Especially on the putting greens, right? Odyssey thing. Before we get back to Derek Anderson, I’m not sure if he uses an Odyssey putter, but if he doesn’t, he should because it’ll help his game. Odyssey isn’t just the number one putter brand. It dominates globally. Number one putter on every major tour. PGA, LPGA, DP World, you name it. It’s not a close race. Significantly more Tour pros choose Odyssey over the next closest competitor. Number one in worldwide wins. Number one in money earned. Tour pros know performance matters and they know Odyssey delivers. see what Odyssey can do for you at odysseygolf.com. Back to Derek Anderson. Um, but let’s talk about your partner Tom Hogi a little bit. I mean, other than being a hornrog, pretty dude. Pretty good dude. Solid cat. Unbelievable. Uh, by the end of the week, I was like got in. I was like, “Hey, we’re having team dinners. We’re having team meetings.” Like, I was all into it. Like once we’re in, we’re just going to do it, right? And he was like, “Relax, pal.” Uh, but he did we had dinner on Friday. It was good. Uh, played some cards. I love it. I love Tom. He was, you know, we we were struggling at times and he was like, “All right, let’s go.” Like, “Hey, we just only need to make like six birds. Like, we’re good. Like, we’re just kind of going through it.” Uh, his game was nice. He’s a competitor. Uh, that iron play is nice, huh? Uh, it’s very good. Yeah, very good. I I don’t think he played as good as he obviously would have liked, but uh to watch his game. I mean, he hits it just like straight like straight. I don’t know. It’s over and over. And he he and Chap didn’t even do they not know each other beforehand because I remember when it got announced like I got a text like within 10 minutes from both of them like asking about the other one. I was like how have y’all not played together or met or at least be friends? I think they No, I don’t I think maybe they never played together. Maybe like once or twice. Couldn’t have played much if they had. I think I saw Tom as a twin fan like years ago, but like I didn’t really like meet him well. But yeah. Yeah, it worked out good. They played good. They just couldn’t make [ __ ] Yeah, you made the weekend. But I was I was with y’all on Friday afternoon for Golf Channel and y’all right around the cut line there grinding it out as we’ve all done. I mean it sucks but I remember you set the bag down on 16 right beside where I was standing and they had a birdie putt. I believe they were one shot out of the cut line at the moment. I think they were at nine under par. You set the bag down. You look right at me and go, “This [ __ ] is stressful.” I I I just I did I was like I didn’t know where we were at until like 14 and I hadn’t seen a scoreboard and I was like we I knew we were somewhere close cuz I was kind of looking at it and like we started the day we were only like five off the lead but we were in 30th place or something like that. Um so I asked Collins I was like hey I was like where are we at? He’s like you guys need to birdie and you know get it get it in you’ll be okay. So we’re going so 16 I’m like [ __ ] missed that one. Go to 17. Now I’m like hands are starting to sweat. Like it was I mean it got like I mean I literally I told you’re feeling it. I was I I told Kevin like after 16 we missed it. 17 he hit a great shot on 17. Like I kind of got the same juices as like when you throw a touchdown like really I know it sounds like like I mean the place was just packed with people. He’s hitting an impossible golf shot. Soup left. I mean was that four iron on Friday afternoon chap hit? Yeah. I mean, he told me afterwards, he’s like, “Dude, I thought I made it.” Like, it did not leave the flag stick. You got kind of [ __ ] Like, it should have came off that slope a little bit, but that was that was a hell of a golf shot. He hit it. As soon as he hit it, I went, “Fuck yeah.” And then I was like, and then I was like, “Oh.” Then I look over, there’s like a microphone right there. And I was like, “Oh, okay. Okay.” And then I started walking. Well, we talked about it like he was like, “Boom. The slope is right there. You can’t hit it past it.” And then he just absolutely I mean, I don’t think he could hit it any better. No. Like, I love that you were feeling I mean, obviously it’s your very close friend. You want him to do well and you’re you’re down there and you you want to be in the mix and you’re playing alongside Rory and to get to play two more days, but then 18, you got to make birdie to make the cut. And Chappie hit it just short left of the green. Hogi hit a great little chip shot and Chappie had like three feet for birdie and I’m just I I was on the call and I’m just like, “Dear God, please make this. Please, please make this.” I like almost closed my eyes for a second cuz it was like it was you should make it, but it was like uncomfortable. I mean, if it he said something like I didn’t want to hit it from a foot further. I promise you that. Like, uh, going down 18, I was super nervous, too, because like, where do you hit that ball? Like, and we were between like five foot had to been like absolutely perfectly roasted to get it over the bunker and then Long’s kind of dead to that thing. Super dead. Um, he hit it in a perfect spot and Tom hit an unbelievable chip. Uh, and I was like, “Oh, we did it.” Like, I still wasn’t sure. Like, they signed the cards and I was like, “Are we are we going to make it or whatever?” And then we walked through and I saw Rick Wild who I’ve known forever and he’s like, “You guys should be good.” Yeah. I mean, it’s 3 ft. But for Chappie, obviously, he’s a PJ tour winner. I mean, he shot 59, but still he he hasn’t played a ton this season. I He’s only been in a few events. I mean, you definitely feel it. Yeah. Like I kind of told him I was like I was going through the emotions with him as we went through it. Like I could feel when he got tense. Like you can like you’re over it. You know when like the pressure starts to come, right? And then for him to be able to step up, hit that shot on 17, hit a good one on 18, we make the cut, like just good vibes, right? Like especially when you haven’t been out there a lot. That’s why I like these events with no cuts. Like here’s a guy been on the field during a Super Bowl, you know, obviously it’s your first time out there, but like making the cut is a big thing. Like mentally for people and that’s why like adding more and more events without them just like, man, I don’t know why anyone thinks this is good. Well, it just gives guys like confidence, right? Like you It’s a huge thing grinding out a cut. Yeah. Like if you’re a guy that’s that every single week and you got to, you know, you got to drop your nuts the last three holes and make two birds like that. We I can’t remember who we play with. Somebody was like they had a birdie two the last three to get make the cut. Yeah. And I’m like if you’re doing that every week that gets tiring and it happens every week. Someone make three out of four sign. Then on that flip side, someone finish bogy bogy bogey to miss by a shot or whatever. And it’s a huge swing. It’s one shot over 36 holes basically. But the way you feel is like massively the emotions massively different and the confidence, right? So they make the cut and they go the next week and who knows like look at Eric Van Ruin this week like plays his nuts off right like I don’t know how he played the week before but I watched him on the range not had a good year there was intent in what he was doing and like I watched him work all week then he goes out this week and balls but it’s almost beat Scotty and it’s crazy almost almost out his ass needed to go for two score a touchdown and go for two but I mean there’s other stories like this Paul Waring I believe is his name rookie on the PJ tour has not made a cut this entire year knocks it on on 18 and two, has two putts to make the cut, three putts. Like just we’ve all been there. It’s devastating. Like I mean I I went on a point in my career where I missed 10 in a row and seven of them were by a shot. It’s like you just and you just the next week it’s like just just make the cut. I don’t care if I finish 70th. Just make the cut. It’s stressful out there. It’s different. Is it like a mindset though? I also wonder this is like is it a mindset of like once you do it, you know you’re going to do it? Like can you get in a role of that? You know what I’m saying? Not saying you know you’re going to do it, but like have the confidence to do it. Do you guys get like that? Like I don’t know. I would I think sometimes your game’s just in good shape and you’re rolling and you don’t even think about the cut. That’s kind of what I was saying. Yeah. But like for me when I missed I had a really good year going then I missed 10 in a row and I’m like holy [ __ ] I might not make a cut again. And I’m playing the 18th old Canadian Open which is uh where it was this year is a tough par4. And I hit a five iron to like 30 feet and all I got to do is two putt and I leave it like a foot and a half short. And in my mind I saw that putt liipping out a hundred times. So, it’s like just somehow get in there from a foot and a half. Just wiggle it. Somehow get in there. Just I want to play two more days, right? Who cares what happens on those days? Yeah. It’s wild how like if you as soon as you start missing some cuts in a row, like all you think about then is like making the cut. And it’s weird how you gravitate towards like whatever you’re thinking about. Whereas if you’re running hot, playing great, like you start thinking about winning golf tournaments, it’s like cut’s not even if you find yourself close to cut, like oh my god, like of course I’ll play the weekend. But when you’re missing them, you’re just like just get to Saturday. And it’s hard as [ __ ] sometimes cuz you just what for whatever reason you like migrate straight to that cut line. You think Scotty and Rory have ever been like, “God, I just hope I get to the weekend.” They probably want to miss one once in a while. I was going to say they probably have the intentionals like I only got to be here for two days. It’s time to go home. Um the other thing I want to know here is because I know SE when I found out he ced for Windom was in player dining having some nice food. Did you did you embrace the full caddy experience? Were you in the caddy dining or were you special pass clubhouse club player dining all that? Probably. Probably there probably. No, no, no. I I was in family dining. Okay. As you should be. I wish I would have maybe spent a little more. I sat on the porch a little bit outside, hung out in the locker room a little bit. I wish I would have went into Caddy and hung out and probably got the full experience. It’s more fun in the caddy dining. I tell you that it’s great hearing them just back. They’re playing like you won’t believe this [ __ ] seven iron dude. All we had to do is get it down. All we need bogey to make cut or whatever. It’s so good. I loved that. I was talking to the other guys as we went along Saturday and Sunday and those guys the stories that they told about the guys that they had played with, you know, previous days and like their caddies. I mean, that’s where I missed it. Like I guess uh but yeah. No, it was good. Like how’d you do on uh bunker raking? That was always that was like my number one thing. I remember I w made Windom watch me. I was like, “Tell me.” And dude, I would spend three minutes in these things to make sure they were glass because the last thing that was gonna happen was someone behind us hits it into like a shitty rake job and I get blamed. We put you on TV raking a bunker. I’ll never forget on number eight at Colonial. I remember and we we had on there and Kurt Byum and I were talking about it and you were in there for 2 minutes like is this guy ever going to finish raking this bunker? I’m telling you, you could have eaten Thanksgiving supper off of that thing. It was glass when I was like there and not on my watch when I don’t even have his ball or [ __ ] Get your putter. I’m making this thing glass. Whoever hits it in here next is getting up and down. I had one on 16 that I did. It was pretty nice. And then Kevin came over and checked it and he was like, “That’s that’s pretty good.” The other cat the other caddy came over and he checked it. Make sure I knew that I was more pushing than people are used to, I think. And then now you you’ll spot like the the [ __ ] ragged. You’re like, “Oh my god, these people just dragging them.” Yeah. Um but there were the other caddies a couple times like we hit them out, missed the green, I went they rad like that type of situation. The good news is James Edmonson’s on the back for Oak. He’s been out there hundred years like and he’s great. James is great. James was great. I actually he was great. Like um Saturday a couple times like I would just ask him like where the wind, you know, where the wind was at just so I had reminders and like anything like on holes like is there anything we need to know on this hole specifically that I don’t know right now? So that like when he’s we’re talking through it like I can Hey, like I can’t remember what hole was. He I think it was actually it was on uh 16. Sorry, the other one was on 15. 16. He had like wedging. James like there’s that ridge was like at 122, right? So he’s like, “Hey, just remind him like wherever you’re at that ridge is at 122.” So like just little things like that. He was very helpful. Good one. Good player also. Yeah. He told me he’s can play. Very nice. Played at Houston. Decent. He said he didn’t want club champion at Colonial Times, right? Uh would you want to do it again if asked? I would. Uh, I don’t know if I would just go do it for anybody obviously, but like stand in the lot and hope someone picks you up. No, but like I mean it’s it’s definitely like something that’s cool that got my juices going. Like it was a very cool experience. Obviously the Rory experience, but just like being in the group competing, it doesn’t matter. Like se Saturday and Sunday I had just as much fun. Like I mean not as much fun, but like just being in the moment going through each shot, talking about all the [ __ ] on the course. Like it was an incredible experience. I’ I’d do it again. Yeah. Well, here’s my one piece of advice because you’re one for one. So, you haven’t never missed a cut. Same over here. I went back to the Well, still haven’t made a bogey on the weekend though, ever. Oh, cuz you didn’t make the weekend. This the year we missed the cut. We were like a shot out of the top 10 with like four holes left. It was pretty jammed up. But I was like, dude, two birds and we’re in like the third second, third to last group on Saturday. Like, no problem. We’re finishing on the front night at Colonial. Uh uh uh I mean dub on the last and the cut ended up moving one higher than we thought. Missed by one and I was just like I never felt more helpless in my life. I mean that that’s kind of a different aspect too like you’re used to hitting the shots and you can deal with when you hit shitty shots but when you’re like just rooting for your guy no matter what you’re saying, no matter what you’re doing, like it ain’t happening. It’s brutal. It’s hard too like when they hit bad ones and you’re like I don’t even know what to say. Yeah. Like that’s not normal. Like I’ll be like all right. That’s not all right. I go, “Well, it’s not all right. I know it’s not right. I didn’t mean to hit it over there.” But like, “Let’s just go fix it.” But if you say nothing, it’s weird. But you try to pump them up. They don’t want that. I don’t know. Yeah. I overspoke a few times, but you want to get into some. Well, this is going to be a modified E9 cuz we’ve had you get into some of the boooos and whatever. I got some football stuff, too. Give me your You just mentioned you overspoke. Uh, what’ you do? Um, which time this you you choose or you can tell both or all? Um, well, I got in the way. You like me to tell me I got in the way when I was out there or just Well, so I had a question from Shane Lowry or Well, he he told me to ask you about the time you got in the Roy Moyy’s way. Oh, yeah. That was great. That was I felt 5’1 in tall. Um, I’ll set the We kind of got in a little bit. So, Kevin hits that shot on 17 on That was Friday, right? Yeah. Yeah. Friday. On Friday. So, I’m like going down. Shane missed the hoszle by an inch. Yeah, it wasn’t good. He’s short, right? And I kind of like walked back and I’m like kind of not really sure where to go because the flag was over there and Shane’s chipping and I’m like, “Okay, I just want to go put this bag down, get my guy, his putter. Let’s get this over with.” And so I go behind the green and Michael Collins says something to me and Rory’s chipping from front right of the green right back at me. Colin says something. I like look down. I don’t even know what he’s saying. And all of a sudden, I hear from 40 yards away, “Da, stop moving.” And I was like, “Oh shit.” I grabbed the bag and I went right behind the camera guy and I just stood there and I froze. And I was like, “Uh.” I’m like, “I don’t even know what to do. Like, what am I doing? Oh my god, there’s all these people here.” Kind of freaking out. Um, who yelled at? Who was it? Chappie. Chap yelled at me. Told you. Yeah. Meanwhile, Rory had stepped off the chip. Apparently, when I looked down, I bothered him. And then he steps up and proceeds to lay sod over it. Now you’re feeling good. And I’m like, “Oh no.” Then they make bogey and we’re walking off and I like tap him with the putter. I’m like, “I’m so sorry, dude.” Like going up 18. I’m just trying to stay as far away from them as I could the rest of the way. Apologized like five times. They we end up that’s how we end up beating him is they bogeied 18 and 17 probably because my ass was in the way. So I asked Shane, I said I said, “Any good stories uh with DA?” And he goes, “Ask him about the time he got in Rory’s way.” said. He goes, “I took the piss out of him.” Which means I guess he got mad. But he said it. He yelled at me from AC. I yelled it. He yelled from across the green. I’m walking. He goes, “It took you two days and you finally screwed it up.” Throwing a no hitter. He did say, “You were great though, and he really enjoyed it.” It was It was fun. So no walk up song Thursday or Friday. We get to the range. James comes to me like on the putting green and I was waiting for chap and he goes hey they have they need a walk up song for tomorrow or by whatever we teed off at 8:05 or whatever it was. I’m like okay. And I’m like like what do you guys like? So we’re on the range hitting balls next to you. I got the phone on full blast. I’m going through Spotify like just picking songs and finally Tom’s like that one works. I’m like okay cool. So, I go tell the guy at the first tea. Come back. Going along our day. No, everything’s going fine. Got my phone right here. Left pocket. It’s humidity is 75%. Walking down 16. We’re standing there. I can’t How do you say his name? Uh Carl Phillips. Phillips is over it. And my phone goes off. Absolutely full blast. Like I was playing music on the range. I was so wet that my stick or the phone pressed against my leg in my pocket like I was standing with my arms crossed holding the bag on my back and it tapped. You know like when the widget that comes up and you can press play to start Spotify on your phone. Yeah. That button gets hit. Why was your phone not in the bag? Because two holes before that I went and took a piss. My kid was playing basketball game. Text my wife, how’s it going? D response. Nothing. It was just sitting in my pocket. I wasn’t like on it or anything. Oh my god, I felt absolutely horrible. How I didn’t feel as bad was his partner just hit it from 170 out of the left bunker to like a foot. So I’m like, “Okay, if he misses that, whatever.” And then Phillips hits it to like 3 ft hoops and I was I walking off and I go, “Dude, I’m so happy you made that.” What was the song? I can’t even remember. Um Oh man, I knew you were going to ask me this. I forgot. Come on. We don’t even have a walk up song prep. They didn’t plan on making I didn’t even know about it. It was some party song, but that’s not that bad. I mean, it’s embarrassing as hell, but at least they made bird like the Rory situation where douches went up there and he wanted If that would have happened with Rory, I might have just set the bag down and just That’s it, guys. I’m not built for this. This has been good. I was uh I was in the final group on Saturday with me and Doy were sharing the final group and I we were on the ninth hole and you texted me. You’re like, “Well, everything was going fine.” And then today, uh, my phone went off with a music being played and I walked through some, walked right through the middle of some dude’s line. Yeah. Then we get to 17 again and I go, “All right, kids left, chipping left, water, so I can’t go behind him. I can’t walk through the middle of the green. I can’t go. The other guy’s on my right.” So I kind of jammed up. He goes, “Just go behind me.” And so I go, I would take, you know, this much space. I go behind him. I drop it over there. I’m walking back to Chap. And I see where he’s at. Very cognizant of what’s going on. Like I haven’t walked through a guy’s line in a member guest or a dinker around round in 20 years. And I’m going and I walk over to chap and I was like looking at him. He goes, “You just walked through that guy’s line?” I go, “Oh my god.” I look back and there’s a cricket on the green. I saw the cricket there. I thought it was the kid’s mark and I went around it like around the little black cricket thing on the thing and I was like done. And so then Friday night at dinner I’m like 17 on Saturday. I’m going to grab a hold of the right ropes. I’m just going to walk all the way up the ride. Give you all the clubs you might need. I’ll see you on 18. We walked out 17. Saturday’s like, “Where are you going?” I go, “I’ll be up on the right hand side if you need me.” Whose line was it? Uh, Phillips. Uh, oh, no. Uh, Michael Thorjornson. You had a good run with them. Yeah, they they were they were impressed. Really good, by the way. Yeah. What do you think? What do you think of the Stanford golf exper? So, by the end of it, I figured out that they’re not golfers, they’re robots. So, Theoran Bjornson, he gets the number from his caddy, 176. Okay. He’s like, “Ain’t I iron, smash it.” Boom. And like, iron, smash it. Like, it was crazy. It’s the exact same swing. Everything was exactly the same. And there was no like, oh, I’m going to hold this into the wind or like 13 at 13’s the par three, right? 14. 14. It was 196 yards and he hit eight iron. Like I was like looking at the thing and I’m and it just looked like me hitting a pitching wedge 130. Yeah. Like it was good. Those guys are going to be good. I mean I kind You got a good eye for talent. Yeah. Well, I was talking to like some guys and like, “Oh, there’s nobody on the leadboard.” I’m like, there’s guys out there that we just don’t know or the general public doesn’t really know about that they’re really freaking good. They just need to win a couple times and they’re going to start rolling and people are going to love them. Then on Sunday, you played with Bud Collie and Kevin Twe. Now Kev, one of my all-time favorites, but um you feel rather intelligent when you were talking to Kevin. You guys talk about literature, math. I love Kev. He’s so great. He was cracking me up. He had a he had one on oh I can’t remember what hole it was now 13. It was actually 13 he said it and then like Bud looked at me and I was like I don’t even know what to say. Like I didn’t even want to comment and I’m like I’m not sure where that came from. I don’t know what he said. I don’t think he knows what he said. No, it was great. Uh what about Bud? Speaking of like robot guys, I mean I don’t know how Bud played the day you were with him. There ain’t a dude that hits it out of the middle directly where he’s looking more frequently than that guy. Bud didn’t have his best day. Um but immediately noticed he he just hits it straight like and straight does not care. Two threes of par three. He had like a five iron that did not leave the flag. It was like 210 yards. Uh really awesome. Like obviously watched his journey and what he’s gone through. Uh awesome to see him go out there and you know get in the mix again. Yeah. He’s I love his action. He is it’s the it might be the one of the most simple golf swings and he’s been he’s one of those kids there’s not many of them but have always been the best. Yeah. Like whatever age they were, never not been one of the dudes. He’s thick, too. Like he’s put together, too. Like medium. And just to even come back and not not to just play, but to play well like he’s playing after that after that long off, too. I mean, that was a scary deal. Did you uh did you get any messages from like some of your former NFL guys were like, “What the hell are you doing out there?” I had we have like a group message with a bunch of guys from Carolina and then I had a few other guys that they were like, I didn’t really tell anybody I was out there and all of a sudden they were like, “What are you doing?” like how is this happening? And I was like, I don’t know. We just kind of got out there and they’re like, “Oh, it looks cool.” Had a bunch of like old coaches and stuff that sit around like cuz they knew Chaff and I were good buddies and like when he was playing well and I was always making guys turn the TVs in the kitchen or in the uh lunchroom so I could watch the golf and so they they they knew about the relationship. So it was uh it was cool though. It was cool. Like guys were sending me clips. That’s also I didn’t know we were on TV. All a sudden I got done we had like 75 messages was like TV clips of us beating it around. So yeah, who knew? All you had to do was get a be a caddy on the PJ tour. Get out of that little small time [ __ ] be playing quarterback in the NFL, you know, and he’s come back to life. Yeah. Then you get it. Uh favorite dinner spot in New Orleans. Nou. Went to Nou three times. Nou. They have those everywhere. We didn’t. So I know it’s right there. We did good. So we had good Thursday, Good Friday. I’m a creature of habit. So I was like, you are superstitious. I’m a little I’m a little superstitious. Um so I’m like, let’s just go back. And then the last night we didn’t we went to uh Ruth Chris instead. Had to mix it up. Didn’t have a good Saturday, but that was a good spot. Good fish. We got Tom to try some stuff that he’d never tried. Tom’s a hot dog corn dog guy. Yeah. So we we drug he was trying to get me a hot dog in the casino and I was like, “Ah, I’ve been eating good, dude. I can’t throw a hot dog down the gullet.” But uh we got him in there, had some uh what do you have? Lobster lobster tacos. And he was like, “Oh, these are like really good.” All right. So, opened his palette up a little bit. Oh, yeah. Good man. Good Midwestern kid. You know what I mean? Just a basic basic pallet. Um, how’d you do with all the club reps out there? I figured you may come away like, “Hey, chap, go slide about four of those putters. I’m going to need a couple dogs.” You know, my specs. How’d we do? I’m I’m actually pretty happy with my set right now. I didn’t No nothing. We didn’t even get in there. I I’d like to normally when they’re here go say hi to all the guys. Um, but I didn’t I didn’t we Wednesday was such a chaos cuz Billy didn’t pull out till 1:30 and we technically couldn’t be on the course. So, we had to like wait for him to pull out to even go say hi to Tom and like Yeah, they were waiting on Zurich to make the announcement of extending their partnership with the tournament which could have got wild because if somebody else would decided they pulled out, we’d already kind of like talked to Tom. Oh, that Yeah, that’s a good point. I didn’t even think of that. We announced it on radio before they even they were texting me. I was like hitting balls and like you guys aren’t in. And then somebody’s like oh so and so is going to pull out and chap looked at me and was like this could get weird cuz we would have ended up with the first person and then the next person would have been because Billy had announced and then maybe Shane Lowry something happened to him. He be like forget that I’m going to go play with Rory, right? Yeah. Like Shane taking a knee. There could have been some weird stuff but it worked out. Uh I didn’t get any new clubs but I didn’t need them. I can’t believe that. I know. A little shock. You must not have seen the equipment trailers. They were right there. Yeah, they’re right there. Like a can of candy. I was busy. I was focused. I was cleaning the clubs, getting the walk up song ready. Uh, by the way, one last thing. You know, you call you call everyone Fella. What’s up, fella? Um, I didn’t know you had a weight loss drug. Weight loss? Like weight loss? Like I’m There’s a weight loss drug. There’s a weight loss drug for men called Fella. Are you getting any royalties off this? At least I need it. No. No. I I naturally lost my weight. You did? Naturally lost it. Quit my drinking and it fell off. What is the fella’s line? What’s their hashtag? Do they have a hashtag? I don’t know. Let me look for you real quick. I can pull it up before. Slogan slogan. Yeah. Yeah. Fella products for women says medication weight loss for bigger guys. There you go. It’s all I got. They need a line. Whatever their line is. Little tagline. Yeah. Um, can I ask you a football question? This is going to be in the E9 here. Okay. So, you know, the famous Browns jersey with all the quarterbacks names of all the starters that they’ve had, right? There’s like 30 of them. I don’t know what you’re in there obviously. Uh, whose name will be added to that jersey first, Dylan Gabriel or Shador Sanders? Man, yeah, it has to start play and then they bounce them and they ain’t the dude anymore. Basically, who’s not going to stick? Um, this is I would go with Gabriel. You think he’s out for it before you think Shador ends up winning? I’m sorry I said that wrong. I think Gabriel’s going to play before Yeah, that’s right. I think Gabriel is going to play before Shadur and then he’ll get benched and then Shadur will go in cuz Gabriel, what was Gabriel? A third rounder, fourth rounder. Yeah, but I mean how many quarterbacks they have? Five. If Watson, Flaco, somebody else and then the two rookies. Here’s what’s going to happen. So Watson, they’ll get his contract out of there and they’re going to just swallow that thing and make it a mess. God, what a deal. Flaco will be the old man. Run the room, help those two young guys. They’ll be together. Um they also have uh Yeah, I couldn’t remember that. Little Gloves from Pittsburgh. Uh little Oh, Kenny Pickicket. Kenny Picket, right? Little gloves. Little Mets. So I don’t know where he fits in the mix, but I could see them keeping Flaco and the two young guys. Or maybe they keep Flaco the two young guys and put one of the guy or two of the guys and put one of the guys on the practice squad. But I think I think Gabriel will get the first opportunity just because of where they drafted him. They obviously liked him more than Shadur from the beginning. Um and then Shadur will get his chance. What a mess though. What a mess. And then you got all the Browns players like tweeting about Shadore and stuff. I’m like this kid, you know, Dylan didn’t do anything but feels like they already made up their mind. players. It’s a hard It’s a hard thing because like I had that’s not the same situation, but a very similar situation there because they drafted Brady Quinn first round the next year after I just gone to the Pro Bowl. So then now there’s Yeah. Now you have that. So it’s not the same, but kind of like depending on who gets behind Shadur and like if the team’s behind him and it can get messy. Well, it’s one of those two going forward, right? Because I mean Deshawn’s gone. Flaco’s old. It would probably be in there like you said, but you’re going to go with one of them. One of them’s going to go somewhere else. Let’s see who I wasn’t overly impressed. I watched Gabriel play Oregon State uh the Civil War this year. And he doesn’t like chuck it. And I mean, I don’t think Shadur chucks it either, but like the throwing the ball in that stadium, the wind, the how cold it is, like accuracy, you got to be good. You got to have a strong arm. So, we’ll see. What do you think about just the overall like Shador slide down? I feel like everyone had an opinion. You’ve lived it. I didn’t I didn’t love it. I think he just started sliding and then then it became like, oh, we’re not going to be the ones that fall to it, right? But then it’s also like it’s hard for them too, right? He comes with a lot of stuff around him to like do teams want to deal with that do they want to is he is he good enough to deal with that? That’s the thing, right? Is it worth it? Yeah. Cam, like around Cam, I watched his thing with his hats and all the jazz and all this, but he was always focused on football um for the most part and it didn’t really get into the team and cause like messes. We had a couple incidents here and there, but nothing like crazy. And I think you it’s hard. You bring in a rookie with all that juice and all that like everything going on, you’re just asking for chaos. I mean, NFL will take anybody. They think you can win games like they’ll take you despite what goes on off the field, right? We’ve seen that. So for him to drop like that like his interviews and this stuff came out with the Giants about how they put in the installs right they make mistakes and see if guys catch it to see he was actually like studying the thing and like they called him out on it cuz he didn’t and he got all mad like his interviews had to be the worst in the world because if they was good enough and they thought he like you they a team would take him. He not going to slide to the fifth, right? Uh I agree you know and those interviews are super important. I actually happened to know the guys at in New York and had messages like back and forth about how things had gone and uh but like when I was going through those like my agent was like, “Hey, like they’re going to critique you on these and then they’re going to talk to other coaches and like it just goes around. So like you have one bad one and they don’t necessarily have to like be detailed on what you did wrong, but like goes to Colt and then Colt’s like, “Oh, okay.” And then he goes through the meeting with him. He already has these pre preconceived notions in his head about like what this guy’s done. Just kind of snowballs. You mentioned your boy Cam Newton. Um been on ESPN a lot lately with just the most unbelievable outfits of all time. What do you think his hat collection is worth? Oh my. Well, for a while he was not wearing the same hat twice. And those hats are Yeah, they’re cheap. I mean, they’re not cheap. You guys can go online and look up that guy’s hat. He cut He got to cut a hole in the top though, so he probably devalues a little. They can’t go sell those on eBay. I’m hoping that he somehow got like a little piece of the guy that’s making the hats because like they did the whole thing on that guy’s shop and isn’t it in Laguna Beach or something like that? And like that guy’s got to be printing money. Uh I would say his hats collection’s got to be over 300,000. God for hats. H has to be and bow ties. You still talk to Willy Wonka? I haven’t talked to him in a while. So I actually facetimed the other night trying to get a hold of him. I had a random question for him. But, uh, no, he’s he seems to be doing good. I saw his Instagram the other day. He’s been working out, get staying in shape. You guys could probably still go out there and play. He’s one of the alltime like freak athletes by He can’t swing a golf club, though. Golf Golf. You can be too athletic for golf. I think he might be it. No, no, no. I think if if you’re an athlete, you can figure out how to swing a golf club. But like LeBron, have you seen LeBron swing? I mean, it’s the worst thing about all LeBron is very similar to golf swings. That’s hilarious. I’ll never forget when I came out to Carolina to football practice and he came trottting by and I’m like, “Oh my god.” Like he’s as big as a linebacker. I’m like, “How are you supposed to tackle that?” And he ran a 4-3, right? He was so good. Like he he doesn’t get enough love, I don’t think, for how good he was first stretch. Totally agree. Did you win an MVP? Yeah. Yeah. There you go. Maybe get some love. Went to the Super Bowl. I mean, I think there you’ll see that more with guys like him that have those types of careers. Like guys go all in, just send it, beat their bodies to hell, play 10, 12 years, be done. Like that’s He lasted a long time though for how he lasted a lot longer than I thought he would. Like the way he put his body in harm’s way like every single week. Yeah, he was a truck. Talk to Josh Allen. Yeah, I actually told Josh like I was like, “Hey, like you’re going to do the same thing you did to Cam or Cam does to his body like slide sometimes.” And he’s like, “I can’t.” And obviously he’s figured out how to do it. Like he’s kept himself out of harm’s way for the most part, but also knows when to take the risk. But he can hit a golf ball. He can hit it hard. Yeah. Horrible. Really far. Like the first time I took him or the time I took him to Wish Rock, he was hitting in the back of the range. He was like hitting him on the deck in the front. He has no idea where it’s going at times and I’m sure he’s better now, but like he was shipping. He was hitting like 330. God, he’s good at football. I love watching him play. One of the best guy. I mean, obviously he’s so fun to watch. One of my favorite guys to watch. Obviously, everybody loves watching him, but some of those throws, some of the things that he does out there that create, especially up there, I don’t think the cold weather guys don’t get enough like playing in the dome in New Orleans or something versus Buffalo, like not the same. Not even the same. Like some of the throws he’s making on the run and it’s 30° like I I mean, holding that ball Yeah. It’s just it’s crazy. Yeah. Well, fella, always fun catching up with you. Good job, though, on the bag. Hey, one for one, maybe retire 100% cut made. We’ll be back probably. All right. Do you want us to give out your number when we post this for other players that might be interested in your services? Yeah, let’s see for we’ll see. Yeah, we’ll put it out there. I mean, top 50 guys all I promise they’re going to have a good time. I promise they’re going to have a good time. I’m not great with math, but I’m good motivator. You get rangefinders now. It’s fine. I can take a rangefinder all the time now. Yeah. What? Well, they’re trying it for the rest of the season, so it’s going to go slope off. You just keep the slope off. Yeah. I put the one with the slope in the locker. took the line with the slope or without the slope. It’s so dumb. Like Davis Riley just got a penalty last week for the slope thing. It says the slope in the book. Like who gives a [ __ ] I was gonna say like you the book and you’re at the It’ll give you the 152 head, but it’s four up. It says right there. So what who cares? It’s Yeah, I mean I get it like that. They don’t want the ones that can tell you the hyper or the barometric pressure in the wind, but whatever. Anyways, great job catting. Fun catching up with you. Thanks for having me, boys. It’s been good. All right. It’s always fun sitting down with the fella Derek Anderson on the bag for Kevin Chapel down there at the Zurich Classic. Got the players and caddies. It ain’t easy for anyone. I It was He was so excited leading up to this thing, like getting the text messages before and all this. It’s cool to see a guy that literally has played on the biggest stage in the world, Super Bowl, get so fired up for a golf tournament with his boy Kevin Chapel. Crazy to me, by the way, that Chap and Hogy and at least cross paths are like familiar uh with one another. But cool deal for him. And it wouldn’t be fun if he didn’t have some some faux paws. If he didn’t have some messups out there, it wouldn’t be fun, you know? We knew we could bank on a few. Uh the phone going off is a nice one. Luckily, they stoned it on that whole. And also, if you’re going to get yelled at by someone or you’re going to mess somebody up, Rory’s the guy, you know, let’s walk away with a story. Yeah. But that that had to be a cool week for him. I know he had a blast. Such a huge golf fan. And to be get to watch Rory and Shane Lowry, I mean, both major champions up close and personal. That’s a hell of a week, man. Really cool. Happy he got to experience that. But that was a lot of fun. Once again, if you’re in the Scottsdale area, make sure you head out to TPC Scottsdale Champions Course. Watch the Epson Tour this weekend. Everybody, enjoy the truest championship. and we’ll talk to you on next week’s subpar.
