What if mastering one shot could eliminate half your mistakes on the course?

In this episode, Bob Kurtz breaks down one of golf’s most underrated strategies: becoming a One Shot Wonder. Whether it’s a draw or a fade, the key to consistency is picking one shot and owning it.

Inspired by the driving mastery of Ben Hogan and Lee Trevino, this lesson explores how both legends built their games around a single, go-to shot — and never looked back.

In this video:
🏌️ Discover Trevino’s “Second Clubhead” concept and how to guide your shot with your lead hand
📐 Learn Hogan’s subtle wrist move to keep the clubface from turning over
🧠 Get Bob’s method for shaping both fades and draws using the lead-hand thumb
🚫 Understand how turning your hand too early creates a hook — and how to fix it

This is more than a swing tip. It’s a masterclass in shot control from two of golf’s most reliable ball-strikers.

  1. I love the footage of the young you interviewing Lee. Reminds me a bit of the Break 90 footage, which was probably shot, what, 10-15 years later? (Let's you and I not dwell on how many years have passed since 😉).

  2. I remember from Break 90 when you taught Thumbs Up to cure a slice. I can attest to the fact it worked. My slice became much less troublesome after I learned to apply that, although it took longer for driver than it did for my irons and hybrids. I believe the catch phrase then was Thumbs Up to be a Happy Hooker.

But it's definitely true that where the thumbs point and whether you turn them more at impact, or delay it a bit until after impact really affects face angle at impact. I kinda sorta had it under control for awhile, but that was back about 15-16 years ago when I last played regularly. This is just my 2nd year back after a 13 year layoff from playing. The consistency is still missing. Now that spring is fully here where I am and the courses have been open for a couple of weeks, we'll start to see where I am.
