Mannings Heath Golf Club – Top 100 Golf Courses of England
[Music] Mannings Heath Golf Club in Sussex is one of England’s finest Inland golf venues it’s set in hundreds of Acres of downland and it’s in a very fortunate position of having two golf courses the waterfall course was established in 1905 and more recently the king fisher was added in 1996 today we will focus on the waterfall a course that sits nicely within our top 100 English course rankings as well as the two Great Courses the 17th century Clubhouse is a great place to spend some time before and after your golf there is a great atmosphere some good food and a pro shop to cater for all of your needs let’s take a look at three of the key holes on the water for [Music] course the first hole that we’ll take a look at is the fifth it’s the signature hole on the waterfall it’s known as the punch bowl you’ll see why when we get down there it’s got trouble left trouble right and trouble short there’s no bail out we got to hit the green and we got to make par okay slightly right but it should be about pin High we’ve had a fortunate bounce off of the side of the punch bow here which uh f favors the shot that’s now landed on the green he’s given us a 30t PT slightly uphill little bit of left to right at the end so from here would be great just a little long let’s see if we can tap it in for the [Music] par 11th hole is known as Valley it’s a tough PA 4 it stroke index two and there’s a little look of austa around here if you ask me I love this hole this also gets a big endorsement from Gary Player it’s one of his favorite holes within England let’s see how we get on well that’s perfect and I don’t want that one back after a really good drive we’ve found the middle of the Fairway we’ve avoided the trouble on the left we’ve avoided the trouble on the right we’ve now got an approach of about 130 Yards Water short of the green got to be avoided carry it all the way pretty good we’ve now got a genuine birdie chance here at the 11th I think we’ve got about 9t to go let’s do it bird [Music] time the closing hole on the waterfall course is around 420 yards and it’s a tough path for stroke index six we’re going to be driving into the valley and then approaching the Green from that Valley this is a tough hole so it’s all about position off the te certainly don’t go left and not too far right long and straight is the order of the day okay the t-shot has found the Fairway although probably not as long as I’d have hoped and it’s left a mid iron to the 18th green tough shot let’s see how it goes we’ve made the front of the green with our approach shot it’s left about 30 ft I’ve had a look at it it looks as it’s going to come in from the right side towards the end let’s see okay that’s a four the last a great way to finish on a great course we’ve been joined Now by Steve Slinger who’s the general manager here at Mannings Heath uh just going to ask Steve a few questions so Steve what uh in your mind brings golfers to Manning’s Heath a combination of things um our history golf being played here since 1905 and the maturity that comes with that the mature trees every hole being um shielded from another hole and I think our tournament history having the liks of the late Serano ballos playing Sandy La when they’re at their best arguably in the late ‘ 80s early ’90s the waterall course is very tricky give us some tips Steve well I would I would suggest actually think very carefully about what you use off the tea um I think a lot of people go out there blasting a driver and actually I think the waterfall course deserves a bit more respect than that so carefully choose your Club make sure you get it on the short stuff and then you can score around the waterfall and finally Steve what’s actually going on at the club right now well we’ve um actually just built 52 new te’s on the waterfall course we’re very proud of that we open those in May uh to really good effect and we’ve got contractors coming in actually in the month of November to um rechannel some of our streams redesign some of the edges and really make them impressive features thanks very much Steve it’s been a pleasure to come down to Manning tee thank you Andy pleasure having you thanks a lot I hope you’ve enjoyed our look around Manning’s Heath today take a tip from me the club is well worth to visit and there’ll be a warm welcome awaiting you [Music] thanks
