Yes guys!! Today we’re joined by the World’s Best Defender Ruwen Filus! Ruwen has a highest world ranking of 18 and has won multiple medals with Team Germany including a silver medal at the World Championships!
In the video, I do some training with Ruwen, he teaches me how to defend and we take a look at the rubber he chops with… The Butterfly Feint Long 3. We also surprise him with the new Diode Pro blade to see how he gets on with it.
Enjoy!

Who's the GOAT defender? 🐐 Hope you enjoyed this one, like and subscribe for more 🔥
Pozdrawiam.😂
…and the subtitles in spanish???
Dan's defense is better than his offense😂
Great video!. Can you tell me which blade Ruwen uses at the moment?
I’ve been considering putting together a defense heavy inspired paddle and rubber for a little while. I’m mostly just familiar with Butterfly equipment, that’s what I’ve been playing since 1985!
I’m wondering if anyone has any suggestions on what paddle I should go for from Butterfly, something that is definitely defense oriented. Also as far as the rubber…I’m considering Feint Long for the backhand and Tackiness Chop or Tackiness Chop D for my forehand. So clearly, a really defense oriented setup. I’ve grown up playing more of an all around style game, used an all around blade and usually Sriver FX rubber on both sides. So, pretty old school stuff in these days. But it’s worked for me for a long time obviously and I haven’t changed anything.
But now I’m looking to try out a different style, the type that I a.ways hated playing against…heavy choppers! 😤😊. That style has always frustrated me. Now I want to learn it and be one of those players! 😅. The hardest part for me is that as an American, there’s not many places to play around where I live. I’d have to drive an hour to get somewhere to play a good game. Back when I started to really play, like in tournaments, it’s was the mid to late 80’s through the late 90’s and there were clubs and tournaments all around my location. I got my first official rating at a tournament I was in when I was 11 years old playing, and sometimes beating, grown men! And that wasn’t u heard of or anything back then. But now there seems to be so much less clubs with real players. And I’m an old man now basically with nowhere to play. If I put together a new setup though, that might motivate me to go ahead and make that hour long drive to play!
Appreciate any advice I can get though! Awesome video as always TTD!!
Ruben's feint Long 3 is (ox)? without sponge?
He is not the best defender
Is he better than Ma Te?
The guy really had to pull his topspin returns upwards to counter the chop returns.
Welcome to cap store
1. Little cap (like)
2. Cap (comment)
3. Very cap (do all)
I couldn't see the kitchen sink
The last point was impressive, well played
I would really like to see these videos with Chinese players.
At least one player can take issue with that statement in the title. Panagiotis Gionis. It is very presumptuous to call Filus that way.
Which music used?
If we could convert a table tennis style into the best drip around, it would be chopping.
Great video, but whats up with moans and groans : } ?
Scripted
does anybody know why filus doesn't chop on forehand?
I watched the end part half a dozen times! What a rally! @8:52
I have to say physically Ruwen is just a monster. He looks like could rip out trees with his bare hands.
what is the thickness of the sponge of pips? 0.5mm?
Joo sae Hyuk is the best
Joo sae hyuk is the best defender by a long stretch
Joo see Hyuk
Ruwen can indeed Ruin the enemy…😂
0:41+ wow, Dan can open Ruwen's chops.
2:31 what? his long pips gave backspin after a backspin ball?
3:55 topspin vs topspin.
6:50 diode pro allows for heavier chops, but is worse for attacking, since it is slower than diode v.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xV5coAlEwp0&t=631s long pips!!!
really? I though he is the best emotional european player LOL . Joo is the best defender all the time not him!!!
He use the Joo Sae Hyuk blade, right?
Anybody know what Ruwen's blade setup is?
Yo I thought it was jo se hyuk
Yo I thought it was jo se Hyundai
Thats not a terrible chop thats so good
