CHARLEVOIX, Mich. — Schools within the Charlevoix-Emmet Intermediate School District are uniting under the rallying cry “Rayder Strong” to support the Charlevoix varsity golf team.

“Rayder Strong Day” will take place this Friday, May 2. Students are encouraged to wear Rayder maroon ribbons and Charlevoix apparel, and to create signs and posters to show their support.

The golf team’s van was involved in a head-on collision on Sunday, April 27, on M-115 in Benzie County, resulting in injuries to the coach and seven golfers.

“People want to do something, but they’re not sure what,” said Charlevoix-Emmet ISD Superintendent Scott Koziol. “Hopefully gives people at least one way to show the Charlevoix student body, in particular obviously the golf team, how much support is out there in northern Michigan and actually across the entire state.”

In addition, Castle Farms in Charlevoix County is organizing a fundraiser to support the golf team and the families affected by the crash. A dinner and silent auction will be held on Tuesday, May 13, from 4 to 6 p.m. Castle Farms announced that all proceeds will go directly to the affected families.
