DELTA COUNTY, Mich. (WLUC) – It’s time to polish your golf clubs, practice your swings and head to the links as several Delta County golf clubs start their 2025 season this week.
Groomed greens and golf carts will greet golfers when they line up to tee off at the Escanaba Country Club.
“We’re opening Friday at noon,” Golf Director Jeff Rae said. “The weather doesn’t look very promising. But the goal is obviously to get open and going as soon as we can in April.”
Rae says the course is looking good.
“Last year, we were open I think, maybe a week earlier,” he said. “We’re gonna get it going this weekend. Then, the weather next week looks a little bit more promising.”
The course is more than a century old, but Rae says that doesn’t mean it’s easy.
“It’s windy,” Rae said. “The lake’s just a few blocks away and it makes our course a little bit more challenging.”
Highland Golf Club in Bark River opened its doors Thursday.
“It’s so exciting,” Club Manager Gretchen Grzyb-Tallman said. “We’re two weeks earlier than last year. The weather has been amazing. We haven’t gotten the rain that we had last year, so that really helped. Hopefully, the rain holds off this weekend, so we can stay open and just have our golfers.”
Both golf courses offer food and drinks.
“We serve Fridays and Saturdays for dinner,” Grzyb-Tallman said. “This weekend, we’re getting ready for our big Easter buffet.”
Mulligan’s restaurant at the country club will open Friday night with its first fish-fry of the year.
Both courses have 18 holes and are open to the public. Reservations for tee times and dining are recommended.
Other Delta County golf courses include Terrace Bluff Golf Club in Gladstone, which opened Wednesday, Nahma Golf Club, scheduled to open Apr. 23 and the Island Resort & Casino golf courses, scheduled to open May 2.
