LEWISTON – The Warrior women hold a one-stroke lead and freshman Giulia Belfontali leads overall after the first round of the Warrior Spring Classic on Monday. LC State finished the first round as 23-over and Belfontali shot an even-par, 72.

“The women found their footing early but stumbled a bit coming in,” coach Zach Anderson said. “Lots of positives to take, just need to clean up the back end of our rounds. Giulia was impressive today. Her first career round of even (par) or better for her as a Warrior. A great round for her and her confidence moving forward in tomorrow’s final round. A slim lead for the team so work to do tomorrow.”

Belfonatli birdied four holes to cancel out four bogies in one of the best rounds of her career. She holds a three-stroke lead on the second-place golfer from Victoria (B.C.).

Isabella Barquet is tied for third at 6-over, 78, and Jane Barry is tied for ninth after a round of 8-over, 80.

Junior Dallis Shockey finished the round with a 9-over, 81 to round out the top four for LC State in 11th place. Natalia Gomez is tied for 12th just one stroke back of Shockey at 82.

The Warriors have two playing as individuals. Chase Caruso leads the pair in a tie for 12th with Gomez after a round of 82. Myah Parsons is tied for 30th in her first tournament of the season after round of 90.
