Hmmmm nah. 🤣 As someone who actually lives here, you don’t need to go to Valderrama if you want to play golf on the costa. €800 for a round including the mandatory caddie’s tip is outrageous, especially when there are courses practically identical for 15% of the cost. 1. Alhaurin. Designed by Seve, this is a roller coaster course, which you can play off season for €40 with a buggy, peak season for €80. Slope rating 137, a true test of golf. 2. Torrequebrada. My favourite course, in my opinion, very similar to, but even better than Valderrama. (I’ve played both) €40 off season twilight rounds, €120 peak season mornings. 3. Marbella Country Club. Trent Jones designed, beautiful clubhouse, great value at €110 with a buggy peak season. 4. Cabopino, again, beautiful amazing value course especially on the back nine. €80 peak season with a buggy. 5. Chaparral, best pro shop on the costa, beautiful green course, €120 peak season with a buggy. The problem with La Quinta, La Reserva, Real Sotogrande and Finca Cortesin is that they are far too similar to course right next door without the price tag. That price reflects the fact they are tournament courses with pedigree, not because of their quality. Real Sotogrande is now €350 a round since it started hosting the Andalucia Masters.
