Jim Venetos has built a following with his unique golf swing philosophy, but does his actual motion match what he teaches? In this video, I break down his swing, analyze the cause and effect, and see if the method holds up under close examination.

This video idea came from one of your suggestions, so I’ll be watching one of his videos and giving my analysis based on what he teaches versus what’s actually happening in his motion. This is just my opinion, but I’d love to hear yours!

Check out Jim Venetos’ channel and the video I used for reference—does his approach work for you? Let’s discuss in the comments!

00:00 Introduction
00:51 Lets watch Jim Venetos Swing Philosophy (with my feedback)
09:00 Lets Analyze Jim Venetos Golf Swing
18:22 My opinions on Jim and his philosophy

  1. Getting back to setup at impact is where the power is. This getting flat will get you caught inside meaning you will try to catch the ball with your hands. This results in a Block or a pull. Ask Woods, he’ll tell you what that’s like 👍 😂 ⛳️🇦🇺

  2. Disagree. Initial ball just a little right. I’ve tried this the past few weeks. Not sure if it improves my shots but I can send the ball along the target line from an open position. The only teachers that improved my score noticeably are a) Paul Wilson’s loose wrists, b) Golf sidekick’s break 90 strategy talks, and c) Padraig Harrington’s swinging loose and free video. I’m 61, been playing 20 years. Was a 10 hcp. Struggling to achieve bogey or better after taking a several year break. Kinda lost all speed and power and confidence. Venetos helped improve this a little. Nice and simple.

  3. Did you notice there's a video cut just before he hits a shot? That says something about his consistency: it means he didn't hit a good shot each time after a speech, and had to cut a good shot in.

  4. Love this analysis! I`ve tried his swing, and I was able to stop slicing, but my lead knee is bothering right now so I`m trying something new. He is very chill. Right now, I`m looking at Count Yogi`s swing of all people. His swing works for me and I`m able to do it because his swing doesn`t call for you to keep your weight forward, and his backswing is pretty short which is good for me due to limited mobility. He`s very eccentric which I like. It would be boring if we were all alike. I`d love to see someone that`s good at golf analyze his golf swing. Love your content. Subscribed!

  5. The best Venetos video (my Opinion) is "The Golf Fountain of Youth- What I learned From Don January". This was my light-bulb moment where I finally understood the difference in a lead side swing vs a trail side hit. If you don't recognize and understand the difference, you will NEVER be a consistent golfer. Unfortunately, most instructors don't reveal which style they are teaching ( perhaps they don't understand) and their students will continue to struggle. Venetos also discusses the difference in another video.

  6. I've always said Jim's swing is good if you have pro hands. If you had pro hands, you wouldn't need to do this swing.

  7. Good call… your swing centers determine the bottom of the arc… not your weight. I think of closing your stance as a good drill to produce a feel or outcome… but rarely would I suggest to anyone as a daily swing. I see more people with issues getting open through the shot. It's a good thing for older people who can't turn behind the ball very well.

  8. Closed stance creates a high rate of closure in the clubface. He could be closing it with his hands, but even if his hands were passive he would get the same thing basically. I don't like the swing….it's like the opposite of what has been learned about the golf swing. But for people who can't learn the modern swing… I guess it could get them around the course.

  9. It's all arms, no lower body and legs. Works it you have upper body strength; I've golfed with men who can just muscle it through like this. As a 65 year old woman, it would take me 10 shots to reach the green; no distance.

  10. If you're going to do a critique video on someone's teaching methods, you should probably spend more than 15 minutes researching it… You go on about how Jim's swing style might interfere with a players rotation… Jim teaches that there is NO rotation of the hips and all of your weight is on your left side, not on their right side, there is no weight transfer… I stopped watching after you said this…

  11. All this YouTube golf instruction is so silly. Golf is an athletic move. Do you see thousands of YouTube videos about the right elbow during a basketball shot? How about thousands of YouTube videos about how to execute the crossover dribble? Of course, not, theiy are athletic moves you can’t think about it. You just do it.

  12. No I'm not having this bloke at all it's like a 26 handicap player you got no shoulder turn every one of his shots sound to me like he's hitting them fat

  13. Well done. I did a deep dive on Jim's method and nearly subscribed with him. After a week and a thousand or so range balls my low back and left hip started to get sore. Previous to this I was using the Marcus Edblad method with decent results. Currently I am staying with Marcus as it does not hurt me. Could you review him please?

  14. Hi! I appreciate your kind words. Your analysis is a bit off because I’m basically using a different technology where the traditional ideologies don’t apply. If you’d like to have a chat I’d be happy to explain what I’m doing, teaching and why. 👊

  15. I'll say for me, when I go out and start conventional, if I don't have it that day and my first holes are suffering, I switch to this and it saves my round every single time. It solves my normal push which is probably a rotation issue that you mention.

  16. I agree with everything except the extreme closed stance. Unless you have a physical issue, that is not advisable.

  17. If the bottom of your swing is the center of your chest, as you claim, you would never take a divot after striking the ball, to do that 60% of you body would be past the ball! The bottom of the swing wound your armpit crease!

  18. I have taken on Jim’s method and my consistency has dramatically increased and my distances are very comparable to an average to decent golfer. The setup hits draws and the alignment is learned at the range and very usable on the course. I believe the simplicity of no hip turn or shoulder turn before impact is what really provides the consistency. Also very easy to diagnose a bad shot and return to good.

  19. That was a great analysis of that swing brother I have doubled with the Jim Vento swing in the past and it did create a baby draw but was very inconsistent so I decided not to pursue it but I love the way you analyze everything on his swing, I think it was spot on. How about trying the Todd Graves mow Norman single plane swing analysis

  20. It's interesting to see how the swing develops. I watch Jim and really enjoy his instruction.

Could you analyze Tom Saguto next?

  21. I use the Venetos style swing for specialty shots, if I need the ball to hook like 30-40 yards. I don't believe Jim's philosophy is appropriate for beginners or high handicappers as a stock shot. I would like to see people learn proper fundamentals instead of compensating for poor habits. Just my opinion though. Thanks for the video.

  22. Firstly Jim's swing method works with ALL clubs from Driver down to the wedges. I've been playing golf now for 55 years and my ball striking was inconsistent, constantly hitting over the top and no weight transfer of any kind. I started using Jim's method around mid 2024 and my ball striking is the best it's ever been, I no longer have issues about weight transfer as my weight is already fixed on my lead foot, no more over the top, I swing slower and I've gained 50 yards with my driver AND dropped 6 shots off my handicap. I've spent so much money on golf lessons over all those years and nobody was able to get me sorted out. Jim's videos have got me enjoying my golf again for the first time in a very long time. The only thing I haven't achieved, and I'm not fussed is I still can't hit a draw, but I'm extremely satisfied with baby fades down the center of the fairway. BTW there is NO deliberate hand manipulation, the manipulation is purely a natural movement.

  23. This is just a stack and tilt swing with a closed stance. This would be good for a person who is a front load snd upper core swing. I tried this but felt very uncomfortable because I have a rear load ((trail side) and upper core swing. This all because of the way I’m made plus I played baseball and being an infielder always being in a set up position for ground balls I could only be more in a bent over posture and laid off as a one plane swing. The most important thing not covered in Jim’s swing is his grip and club face position. He tends to have a strong grip and the club face is super closed at address or facing the target. Add that to a closed stance and guess what, the ball flight for a draw. As you say this is swing is not for everyone. There is so many factors to determine what kind of swing a person falls into. Then you can work on grip, takeaway ball position etc. For me and what I teach, golf is like any other sport, It’s all about the target. I don’t care what my students swing looks like, as long as it is efficient and can hit the target consistently. It’s not about the ball but the efficient swing that will take the ball to the target. It’s up to a good instructor who can identify these traits in a student and put them together in the proper order. The best formula I work with and teach my students is FH+GIR+2Putts= Scratch golf. Fairways hit, greens in regulation and the only way you can do that is learning to hit the targets efficiently while playing the game.

  24. I started his method last month and continuing to work on it. My iron shots have never been better. More solid longer shots. I only have to focus on three swing thoughts. No, I don’t have to manipulate my hands or think about my finish. Just swing. I’m 68 years old. I have been playing golf for 60 years. Wish I would have learned this year’s ago.

  25. What a great video obviously Jim doesn’t give it all away there’s so much more going on that Jim has simplified and explains in the course . I joined his academy for a few months and it really did improve the way I struck the ball particularly with the shorter irons .Thanks again for the analysis .

  26. I literally never hit a draw until I found Jim’s videos. My normal miss is still right but I can hit draws now if needed.

  27. I understand why you question Jim's alignment, as the ball flight starts out to the right, then draws. His set-up does that intentionally, to eliminating slices, and create what Jim calls a "baby draw" on all shots.

  28. I have been using Jims method for about a year now and can honestly say my slices, chunks and hozel rockets have disappeared!

  29. Can you look at the video he does with his driver. He has adopted the same swing philosophy and actually hits down on his driver. I know Tiger hits down on his driver, but that's Tiger. Can the average golfer get away with that?

  30. Stillness and weight forward is the key to this swing. I joined Jim's academy for a months. Within a few weeks I went out with a 7 iron and 3 balls at lunch break(im in the golf industry). 2 of the 3 were laying next to each other in the fairway. The 3rd was not too far away. This swing definitely works, and it's not conventional, which is what the average golfer needs.

  31. Great analysis! I believe this swing is more for over the top high handicap golfers, some who might have physical limitations

  32. I changed to JV’s method 3 months ago – the results have been amazing. When we can put cards in again in the UK I am hoping for a good sized handicap drop. His methods work and are straightforward. My golf mates say it looks odd but have been shocked by the ball striking changes.

  33. The point to me is he’s simplifying the basic requirements of an effective swing. Adding rotation is just another variable. He came from traditional mechanics and is simply streamlining it all.

  34. For what ever reason I can not drive using this method but I have never hit irons better and more consistent than using this method . Its the perfect draw every time .

  35. You really should talk to Jim. He is trying to make the swing very simple and let the swing take care of itself. it works great for me , a senior golfer.

  36. What so you think of stack and tilt.
If you want a laugh , you can always tear me apart with my violent short swing hcap currently 11

  37. I like that Jim caters to the average golfer. His method seems to really work at eliminating the urge to come otp. The average golfer could do much worse than use his system

  38. You should check out Stuart Cartwright. I love how he teaches. A good video to start with is "What Happens Next: Golf Downswing move you have never seen before," where he shows how the handle moves the clubhead.

  39. If it's not too deep I'll be happy to go retrieve the balls at the bottom for a half cut. Balls in the woods I get a third cut. I think that's reasonable. Then I'll calculate the percentage of outside to inside swings for him. The proof of his theory is in the water.

  40. Far too much B S in golf. The simpler the swing and the less movement there is, the better. It is tiresome to see pros trying to make a couple of pounds or dollars by "teaching" people who have no athletic ability. Almost all such teaching is B S, but Jim Venetos comes closest to helping most people !
