A PGA Tour star furious with his performance at the Valspar Championship smashed a sprinkler in a moment of madness. Adam Hadwin was so angry with his display that he failed to check what was on the ground before slamming his club into the turf.
The Canadian missed the cut after a 76 in the second round in Florida. He struck a double on the 10th hole which effectively ended his chances of making the cut. Hadwin was enraged and stormed over to the rough and smashed his wedge into the grass. However, the 37-year-old had not noticed that a sprinkler was present at the exact spot where his club hit the ground.
A fan who was filming Hadwin’s reaction caught the incredible moment. Water sprung up from the ground and the golfer immediately realised he had made a major error.
He tried to pat down the sprinkler with his club but to no avail. Fans could be heard in hysterics as Hadwin immediately calmed down and made an attempt to shut down the sprinkler. Caddie Joe Cruz walked over to help but neither of them could prevent the flow of water, which burst all over the rough. Cruz walked away, presumably to get help.
Hadwin went on to make another double on hole 16, compounding a disappointing weekend. He has now missed the cut in three of his last four events and will go back to the drawing board after an underwhelming start to the season.
Hadwin could be heard repeatedly apologising to officials, saying “sorry” several times. He even despondently asked: “Will it go down?”
The rest of what he said was inaudible. Hadwin tried to stand on the sprinkler but that did not help. He then crouched down and attempted to push the device back into the ground but the water continued to spray everywhere.
Sadly, the footage then cuts off so it is unclear whether Hadwin solved the issue himself. Jessica Hadwin, Adam’s wife who has become a cult hero among golf fans for her hilarious social media posts, got mileage out of the incident with an amusing intervention on X.
She posted a common meme which reads “0 days since last incident”. Her caption read: Through sickness and health. Amen.”
