BRUNSWICK (WGME) – A well at a golf course in Brunswick is contaminated with PFAS, well over levels considered safe.
Maine DEP recently tested the well at the Mere Creek Golf Course, which is just south of the former naval air station.
The DEP says it found a PFAS chemical at five times the safe level for drinking water.
Maine DEP says the source of the PFAS predates the spill of toxic firefighting foam at the airport over the summer.
The new head of the Midcoast Regional Redevelopment Authority says it’s not clear where the contamination came from.
The DEP says it sent a letter to the Navy to investigate the area and find the source of the contamination.
Maine DEP is also asking the Navy to sample private wells within 1,000 feet of the golf course.
