Shavers hit him harder than anyone else and he still stayed up.
Ali was also well past his best, an old 35, but still took it.
Whaaaat? That decision was terrible. It should at least be a split-decision. But, shavers beat the breaks off ali. Ali had his moments, but shavers won that fight.
If Shavers had stamina and a body attack Ali would've never survived. Shaver hit him but with nobody attack Ali can hold all day.

I can't stand the Ali style…boxers aren't crap in my book if they wouldn't be the one you picked to watch your back out the street, in a bar…the dancing around is nonsense. Most of Ali's career was politically motivated.

Damn I saw this fight many times in the past..and still was impressed with shavers .scoring should have been closer..Ali still won and Shavers needed a knock down. It was the beginning of his decline.

Ali is shot his hands have bursites ,and are just beat.Could no longer punch, his shots used to snap his opponents head way back .Shavers would not go 10 with pre manilla Ali .All of those fights 4-5 a year for so many years ,buy the time 1977 they all caught up with him his hands ,and his body is burnt out from constant training .and punishment.

You're probably right. Ali clinched a lot, especially after he got hit with powerful shots. If any boxer could have knocked Ali out with combinations, it's Shavers.

Love watching Ali act like a disrespectful clown and get smashed… this fight contributed greatly to his brain damage
Did anyone else notice that anytime Shavers got Ali in a corner and started to work inside, the ref immediately split them up ? There was no clinch. It almost looks as though the ref wasn't allowing Shavers to fight inside at all. Looks suspicious to me. Don't get me wrong. I'm a huge Ali fan.
