Tiger Woods was forced to take drastic action in order to protect his glitzy Florida mansion.
The 49-year-old has an estimated net worth in the region of £1billion thanks to his incredible achievements on the golf course – including 15 major wins – and a history of lucrative sponsorship deals.
Part of that money has gone towards the purchase and development of a huge dwelling on the exclusive Jupiter Island. Hello Magazine claim the property is worth around £43million, and another £12m has been spent on making it the ideal long-term home.
According to Re-Thinking the Future, a huge chunk of cash was spent on the implementation of stabilisers beneath the foundations of the house. Woods recruited a team of engineers to take such extreme measures due to concerns that the property was sinking into the ground.
The modern-day golf icon spared no expense to limit the prospect of damage to his home on Jupiter Island, which is surrounded by water and vulnerable to flooding and hurricanes.
Sitting on 12 acres of land, Woods’ Florida base includes a golf course, a swimming pool for diving and another for lengths, tennis courts, an oxygen treatment room and a gym filled with high-spec equipment.
The renovations mean that Woods, who revolutionised golf from an athletic perspective, can complete his strict workout routine without leaving the confines of his property – even if it is not as strenuous as it used to be.
Speaking to the Golf Channel about his old regime, Woods explained: “I used to get up in the morning, run four miles, then I’d go to the gym, do my lift. Then I’d hit balls for two to three hours. I’d go play, come back, work on my short game.
“I’d go run another four more miles, and then if anyone wanted to play basketball or tennis, I would go play basketball or tennis. That was a daily routine.”
Woods is still feeling his way back into competitive action after finishing dead last out of the players who made the cut at The Open last July. The American underwent back surgery in September and is now mourning the loss of his mother, who passed away last week.
Fans were due to see Woods at the Genesis Invitational but the veteran admitted he was ‘just not ready’. “I did my best to prepare, knowing it’s what my mom would have wanted, but I’m still processing her loss,” he said.
