  1. Funny thing is I was expecting an even older driver, from Callaway just to keep it in perspective, Callaway has made great drivers and clubs in general for ages now.
The last driver I ever bought was in 2004, maybe late '03, a Cleveland Launcher 400 demo club for only 40 dollars, could tell it had been used a lot,,, probably even by me as I tried them out at Golf Mart a lot.. 10.5° R flex stock gold colored shaft. That thing lived up to its name Launcher too! But yeah, it takes a fair operator to get the best results, there's news!
I must say the price of a brand new driver even in the nineties was fairly steep…until the next model came out, especially when titanium became The Thing.

  2. That's exactly what I wanted to see. 20 years ago the manufacturers were telling us that the clubs were maxed out. Now we know. It's all cosmetic. 😊

  3. Got a Tourstage head 2008 and a new 2014 Aldila Tour shaft and a new grip. Total $69. Works like a champ.

  4. New clubs are like new watches. They will not tell the time much better, but you may like the look and the feel. Buy what you want as long as you can afford them but don't buy the expectation that they will improve your score.

  5. I no longer consider Callaway or TaylorMade golf club companies. I consider them marketing companies that sell golf clubs. At this point, there is little they can do to make the clubs perform better, so they constantly change the appearance of the clubs so that they can market the new looks as improved clubs. They aren't. I don't expect to ever buy either of these company's clubs because I find this practice disingenuous. All the top manufacturers make excellent clubs, so there are lots of choices out there. Buy the ones that look and feel best to you. If that's Callaway or TaylorMade, great. But for me, those Ping G440 irons are looking pretty darn sweet. 🙂

  6. But…but…but…. What's the dispersion and the drop-off of distance on off-center hits? That's supposed to be the new technology.

  7. Ping G10 was my favorite driver until it died about 10(?) years ago. I spent years and years searching for a decent replacement (spending too much) and have finally found the AI Smoke TD…

  8. It just goes to show how much marketing hype and $$$ goes into selling the latest drivers which offer minimal gains year on year. Maybe a Ping G10 might not work for the average golfer but get a driver from 5 years ago and it will perform pretty much just as well for a third of the price (or less) of a brand new one. A no brainer unless you have money to burn.

  9. Yeah, I am using a 6-7 year old driver Callaway Epic Flash and for the life of me I cannot justify a new driver at these prices. As a friend of mine had purchased one of the early maybe 1987 Taylormade Burner metal drivers, it was the one with lightly sand blasted color with an original Aldila shaft. He got it at a garage sale for $5.00. We went to the course and on the second hole a short par 4 358 yards I hit and landed about 30 yards in front of the green and it rolled on. It was a fantastic driver and had great feel. 5 bucks lol.

  10. Most of the bigger Manufacturers have done the same for years. TM your favourite for bold claims Mark 😂. Gaining anything over one's present driver unless it's a relic of course is minimal. A small gain probably goes down to the shaft more than the head. £500+ for something new and shiny. Sadly this isn't unusual across all the big boys. The manufacturers must think golfers are stupid. I will stick with my TM SIM not 2 the older one. Mainly straight cost minimal amount of money. I might try and get a G10 though

  11. I bought an Adams Blue driver in stiff of Ebay for £35 stiff flex then tipped the shaft to 44.5" With lead tape got the driver to D2. I game a SIM2 tipped at D5 swing weight.
The Adams goes 5 yards further than the SIM2! My suspicion is being a 2015 driver, it gain US PGA conformity in 2014 so was allowed to greater that 1.5 smash factor efficient.
I also bought a 2017 Big Bertha Fusion £50 with 2 free shafts! changed the shaft to 75 X stiff then added tape below the face to get the spin 1000 rpm less So now D5. It carries 280 yards also.
I do not buy into the 10 yard gain on drivers year on year.

  12. If they can't even spell the name correctly. 🤦
Callaway needs pick a name and stick with it. I mean, seriously…
Heck i don't even know who makes the Qi whatever and the Elite, i mean… Hell i can't even misspell it. Ping i know what number they're on. Even Titleist went to a different name this year and i have no idea what it is and really i don't care. There hasn't been significant changes in drivers in 4-5 years to warrant buying anything new. If you believe there has been then you're just fooling yourself.
Just bought a used Ping G430 max… Used for $225. Anyone wanting a G425 LST?

  13. I’ve been trying to replace my 15 year old Rocketbalz for 10 years now……I’ve found that when your swing speed is only 85 mph ……the club doesn’t really matter 😜

  14. Thanks for confirming the 8 more yards and the CG low and deep malarkey is just what it is. This is a real wake up call for the characters buying a new driver every year.

  15. Great video! Ping i20 what a club that was!! I’ve just bought a ping g430 max, purely because my TM sim 2 max was damaged. I never understood paying for the latest, other than to say that there is an acceptance that our game may not improve, however our excitement might… until we hit it that is 😂
    Great video Mark!

  16. It's hilarious, every year I take my about 8 years old xr16 and M1 drivers that I bought second hand (140$ each) 5 years ago to simulator at a big golf store. I pay 50$ for 1-2 hours and I can test almost any new driver and shafts.. and still after 5 years I get almost non difference in data with the lastest drivers. It's almost nothing even in accuracy. The 50$ I get back when I buy something there, and its perfect to get some golf balls, gloves, and last year a windbreaker. 😊 ..and I am not even good at golf and have a slow swing speed

  17. I have a G10 and a Mizuno MP 600 driver in the closet. I remember both being very good. I think they deserve to see the sun again.

  18. My old driver broke on me. Went for a fitting ended up with a Sim2 max, nothing was noticeably better and it was hundreds cheaper.

  19. I thought the Mystery club might be a Cleveland Launcher. With COR capped, the advancements come in other areas. I used to hit the Launcher well…when I hit it well. Longest modern driver for me – I don't buy them all the time – was the M2. Hit a slice with either and I may be in another fairway. I currently game a Mizuno STZ230. I bought this after watching AskGolfNut go through the face strike location numbers for the 2022 and 2023 Mizuno drivers. Is it longer than the other drivers I own? No. Does it keep me in, or closer to more fairways? Absolutely. Year after year there are distance claims. The numbers for average driving distance by amateurs do not bear them out.
