Hay River’s golf course will receive improvement work over the next two years worth $566,318 through new federal funding.
The Town of Hay River will hire local companies to “upgrade the golf course clubhouse, enhance catering and audiovisual equipment, install newly designed greens and upgrade and expand a nearby campground,” a Thursday press release stated.
“Investing in a variety of local experiences for all seasons improves community well-being,” said NWT Liberal MP Michael McLeod at a press conference on Thursday morning. “It helps build up a strong tourism sector in the North.”
McLeod said the clubhouse is often used by non-profit organizations to “gather, meet, play and come together as neighbours.”
Hay River mayor Kandis Jameson said the upgrades could help to establish the town as a “premier golf, camping and event destination.”
