In April 1983, Garden City Lanes hosted the PBA Long Island Open. In the opening match, Washington state resident Roger Haskell takes on Dale Glenn aka “Eagle.” The winner of the opening match faces former NYC resident Ernie Schlegel. The winner of match two faces a local guy Gary Shultis. The winner of the semifinal match takes on another Long Island local Don Genalo.

PLEASE FORGIVE ME FOR THE POOR AUDIO. Thank you

  1. Dale Glenn allegedly changed his name to Dale Eagle attempting to evade paying money to his ex wife.

  2. So wonderful to watch this. Brings back many memories of bowling in the morning league and then watching the Pros. Fun days.

  3. Irishpogi, Thank you for the upload of the Stepladder Finals of the 1983 Long Island Open. Also, It looks like you have heard the news that Gary Mage has passed away.

  4. Thanks Irish, this is the year of Don's Infamous Gutter ball at Gable House in Torrance Ca , 4 or 5 yrs later Pete McCordic would roll his 300 game there for $100,000, was a local house for me so I would go watch them.

  5. I enjoy watching these tournaments from 1981 thru 1983 just before I became a fan in 1984. The early days of urethane balls. I think by 1984 all the pros were pretty much in urethane.

  6. Crazy, Bo mentioned Don Genalo was the high average in league at this center so far that season with a 217 average. Nowadays 217 wouldnt even get you mentioned. Amazing how scores have increased so much in bowling in 40 years.
