CLOVIS, Calif. — Professional golfer Bryson DeChambeau, a former Clovis East graduate, is planning a mega golf project near Clovis.

The ambitious plan is set to cover over 200 acres, though the exact location and backers remain undisclosed.

DeChambeau shared his vision on Joe Pompliano’s podcast, describing the project as a “multi-sports complex center, driving range, golf course, residential community center, the whole thing.”

He said the development would increase the size of the community where he grew up by 30 percent.

Mike Schy, DeChambeau’s former golf instructor, revealed that DeChambeau was working with Cook Land Company of Fresno on the project.

Todd Cook, president of Cook Land Company, said in an email, “Cook Land Company would be in support of any opportunity that increases access to youth sports while providing economic development in our community,

and would assist in any way possible. However, we are unable to provide any further comment at this time.”

Despite the plans, neither Fresno County nor the City of Clovis has received any permit applications for the project.

DeChambeau aims to make the sports complex initially accessible to students at Clovis Unified School District, where he grew up.

“It’s all tied in with the Clovis Unified School District where I grew up. Which will be great for those kids. The accessibility those kids don’t have in the Central Valley right now,” DeChambeau said.

Kelly Avants, spokesperson for Clovis Unified, stated, “We heard Bryson’s comments on a recent podcast and are excited about the possibilities a project like he described would have for the community as well as the

expansion of opportunities it could bring for our golf teams.” However, she noted that the district has no formal partnership with DeChambeau.

DeChambeau estimated that it would take 12 to 15 months to secure the necessary permits.

After leaving the PGA Tour in 2022, DeChambeau joined the LIV Tour, signing a multi-million dollar four-year contract.
