A funny thing about old games is just how much more trash littered the field back then.
Greatest team in the history of NY sports…
Al Weis only hit 7 home runs in his entire career – 8 if you count this one. This is the only home run he ever hit in his home ball park. All of his regular season home runs were hit on the road.
2:23:51..You can tell it was a different era. The mets are about to complete one of the most improbable feats in sports history, and the fans, in the background, are seated and looked bored out of their minds. If it were today, all the fans would be standing and screaming at every pitch
I remember that last out as though it were yesterday. I got home from school in time to see it live, then was late for a drum lesson because I watched the postgame celebration. Little did anyone know that 17 years later, Davey Johnson would pilot the Mets to the '86 World Championship.
It's a shame that the 2024 Mets haven't had a 20 game winner. Come on
No doubt a true Cinderella team !!!
How cool is it that Louis Armstrong is in attendance?🎺😀💁🏻♂️
1:42:30 look at the happy Mets fans in left. That's one of our grandparents, uncles, teachers, neighbors, whatever. We can be happy like them one day! Please god haha LGM!
This is class – watching in UK been a proud Met for decade now – will be watching this keenly #LGM
The clubhouse celebration with Lindsay Nelson conducting post game interviews is priceless!!
Remember coming home from Kindergarden and my mom had the game on with our Zenith black and white television. Great childhood memory
What was Koosman's pitch count? LOL
1973 footage 👍👍👍👍👍
Man, what a great year….series…and final game. And then the post-game, which was one of the most unreal explosions of joy and camaraderie amongst men of different ages, races and backgrounds – all coming together to create perhaps the most amazing baseball season we'll even experience.
I been a Mets fan since 1992 my all time favorite team is 1986 but 1969 is very close
Miracle Mets 2025
'…so don't go away.' I don't think anyone was contemplating going away, Lindsey 😄 2:14:30
I was a freshman in college in New York. I needn’t say that no classes went on while the games were on.
What a jewel.
This was the ultimate redemption and vindication for all the times the great NL teams from NYC had lost the World Series due to the Yankees being so dominant. New York Giants losing in 1904, 1911-1913, 1917, 1923, 1924, 1936, 1937 and 1951. Brooklyn Dodgers losing in 1900, 1916, 1920, 1941, 1947, 1949, 1952, 1953 and 1956. I grew up in Albany, Syracuse and Mount Vernon and late 60s to mid 70s and mid to late 80s the Mets were really good
Thank you ! I watched this game back in 69 from my elementary school classroom in Fairfield, Connecticut. Our teacher was kind enough to roll the TV cart into the class so we wouldn't have to miss an inning. The Mets being in the World Series was a such a big deal in Southern CT. that these games took priority over our normal classroom lessons ! No body complained. That was so much fun being able to watch with my classmates. I haven't seen this game since, so this is a great memory ! Much appreciated.
You had Joe Namath and the NY Jets beat the high and might Baltimore Colts, along with The Mets beating the heavily favored Orioles in the same years. Tough year for Baltimore fans and GREAT year for NY fans.
Fantastic to always preserve and look back reverently on the past. Here we can witness the Foundation of which all future Mets teams were built. The inclusion of the pregame and postgame gives added respect to the presentation. Looking forward to possibly be blessed with some 1973 or (WOW!) 1969 NLCS game telecasts.
