You’ve nailed it mate- I’m an Ipswich town season ticket holder and this is the only analysis I’ve seen on here who understands McKenna’s tactics and the recent switch up!
That's a pretty good analysis Ryan. Ipswich have changed their structure with a 5-man back line which has enabled them to soak up pressure. They are comfortable conceding territory and possession and relying on swift counter-attacks. Delap is the focal point of attacks with the wing backs moving up the pitch at pace to provide width. Sadly, the system relies too much on Delap (with Hirst out injured), hence Ipswich's desperation to sign another striker in this window. The heavy defeat against Newcastle came when Delap was suspended, his absence highlighting his role in this team .
Another thing McKenna has changed is playing out from the goalkeeper. There were too many mistakes and too many nervous moments. Muric clearly was not comfortable playing that way. Ipswich now play the long ball out more often, while the return of Walton in goal seems to have given the defence more confidence. COYB.
Good analysis. I will say this about Davis though, he's not as poor as people make out defensively. He's massively improved 1v1 from the start of the season, clearly not his biggest strength but important to remember it's his first proper season in the PL.
Southampton, Leicester and Wolves going down. Ipswich should have a 3 point cushion come May.

Good analysis. Just a couple of points – Muric is a very good shot stopper and Davis has come on leaps and bounds as a defender.

Delap steamrolling chelsea in the first 5 seconds made me piss myself of laughter
harsh saying davis defensively is "very poor" cos he gave away one penalty. a mistake trying to recover 70 odd yards in the 90th minute is pretty understandable for me
