Slicers are often flat because that’s the only way to hit a little bit more from inside. With the wrong sequence where the hands don’t work independently and faster than the body, it’t really hard to have the heavy clubhead to shallow.
The one thing that he doesn’t say is the happy swing gives him more time to make his down swing- 3 steps
