In this video, I dive into one of the key factors holding me back from becoming a scratch golfer—and it’s something that might be holding you back too. A year ago, I posted my stock yardages with every club in the bag, highlighting issues like inconsistent long irons and a massive gap between my fairway wood and driver. Today, I revisit those yardages at a Toptracer range and uncover how my game has progressed (or hasn’t) since then.
I’ll discuss my struggles with long irons, the tension I feel under pressure, and how old habits creep back in during range sessions. Plus, I share my plan for tackling these challenges in the new year, including working with a coach and practicing more effectively.
If you’re on your own journey to improve your golf game, this video might give you some insights into what could be holding you back. Let’s work through these challenges together—hit that subscribe button to follow along with my journey from an average golfer to scratch.

Let’s get to scratch this year ❤ 🏌️♂️
Metalwood is fire
Just my opinion, but it appears like balance is an issue for you. Transition is super quick and you would probably do better working on slowing (feeling) that part of your swing, even though you will be faster in the end. Jump on some force plates if you can. Likley that compression isn't what you could bring to the table because of this.
Hey, I got two cents.
The woods are full of long hitters,
Why?
Because they swing WAY too hard. Tempo.
Its not how far you can hit each club,
Its how far can you hit consistently.
Golf Mates out of the U. K.

Old Man Pat has been playing over fifty years, he is in his mid eighties.
And still has a low double digit handicap.
Tempo, slow down, or take a half swing and
Keep It In the Middle.
I would start with a pw, and hit two to three hundred balls, try one hundred and twenty five yards and put them in a thirty foot circle.
When you can do that, nine, then eight.
Good luck.
