Welcome back to Stick to Football, brought to you by SkyBet.
In today’s episode, we’re thrilled to welcome a true legend of English football in Glenn Hoddle who joins hosts Gary Neville, Roy Keane, Ian Wright, and Jill Scott.
We start by exploring Glenn’s unique style as a player ahead of his time and move on to his picks for the current England team. The panel dives into a debate on Thomas Tuchel managing England and Glenn’s time working with Arsène Wenger at Monaco.
Glenn reflects on his flair for scoring from outside the box, his experience as a player-manager, and those who influenced his career. He also opens up about the challenges of taking on the England manager role and making tough decisions like narrowing down the 1998 World Cup squad and leaving out Paul Gascoigne.
Plus, Glenn shares personal moments, including his first heart scare and his life-threatening heart attack at BT Studios. The episode wraps up with his thoughts on whether England will win a major tournament again and why Tottenham have struggled to secure more trophies.
If you enjoyed this deep dive into one of football’s most visionary minds, don’t forget to let us know in the comments. And if you prefer to listen on the go, you can catch Stick to Football on all major podcast platforms.

My old football coach, at Rose Hill under 15s, Joe, would always say that if Mr Hoddle was Dutch, German, Spanish, Brazilian etc, he would have had a 100 plus England caps. Great player, and this was a great interview. Much thanks
Imagine, being Paul Scholes, and you have Glenn Hoddle sitting there singing your praises….
What a top man
Gillet to be fair
Talking about Trent and KDB passing, the both of them together couldn't match Scholesy's ability to long pass accurately.
Best England Manager ever
IMO: One of those players that gave balance to the England squad was Nicky Barmby. Totally underated for what he contributed
Why was he not quizzed on his Eileen Drewery nonsense?
To dare is to do, not to do is to dare. It's very simple what it means, you gotta go for it.
Why are they talking like Spurs have ever been a realistic destination for the truly top players in their prime? If they're ever going to win something serious then it will be with a team that's comprised of players that have been brought in and developed. It's not likely.
The situation in secure hospitals is bizzare. I work in adult acute ward. With 7 staff on a night shift, I'll be the only white English staff member. Dangerous patients with paranoid schizophrenia becoming aggressive because staff are talking in a langue they can't understand and can't or won't make the effort to try and talk to the patients.
PS I work with alot of hard working immigrants with the right attitude, though that's sometimes not enough
What happen to Glen after England? He was only young.
Just YouTube the goal against Watford. Outstanding
Kenae is sitting there thinking Rice should have chosen Ireland
Loved it. Best episode so far.
When are we having the following on?
Sir Alex
10hag
Dave Seaman
Bruce Grobbler
Peter Ndlovhu
JJ Okocha
Heddle was my first football hero
What on earth did Paul Scholes add to this video? It was a nice episode, wonderful to see the respect that they still have for Glen, especially Ian and Roy, but Paul just sat there gave absolutely nothing.
Any episode without Carra is a good one… this one however was pure class and thank god Carra wasn't at the table!!!
That's not about Le Tissier not getting in because of Scholes..
Gary obviously to be fair actually obviously obviously
just fantastic – could have lasted longer – get him back please for ep 2
I want someone to look at me, the way Roy looks at Glenn 😂. Great episode 👍
Which player is named by GH at 15:50, please ?
Great player. Won jack all as a manager.
We need to stop worshipping the foreigners in this country. We build them up to be something they are not.
Put them on a pedistal.
Its not fait on young British tallent.
Keane should still be managing. Roy Hodgson did retire so young. Players are so weathy they don't need an extended career. Easier to yap on the tele.
Ended up in The back of Glenn’s white bmw when I was about 11.
I looked up to you till I met you😂😂😂
The best episode yet and may be the best football talk show episode ever. I would have never watched football in my school years if it wasn't for Hoddle. For me he is the best European player ever after Cruyff. I imagined Johan Cruyff watching quietly sitting there and admiring Glen and Scholesie. So for me all three legends were there. May God bless and keep you. I will for sure watch this episode whenever I need a lifter upper.
Nev should have asked if Eileen Drewery was a mistake 😉
My dad made sure that we saw Glenn as player/manager when he was at Swindon in the 90s
My dad wanted me to see the greatest player he had ever seen too,
Glenn was the man
Glenn Hoddle is without question the most talented English player of all time. His football IQ is top class.
Brilliant Episode, Hoodle’s a legend, I don’t understand why he likes Foden so much though, No Prem goals this season and 1 goal for England in 2 years, Bellingham and Palmer are the real deal.
And I love the way Gary takes a slip of the product placement sports drink as Glens talking, brilliant advertising 😄
I bet Glenn wasn’t Ian’s favourite manager
Englands best ever player. Hands down. Genius. Could chip a ball onto a sixpence from 75 yards and then have it spin backwards. Cretinous coaches that didnt pick him more for England.
Glenn. Florian Wirtz at Leverkusen is up there as best passers. Youll soon see….
What gift says Neville..wakey wakey mate!
Matt Le Tisser & Glenn Hoddle 🤙🤙💪💪
After 5 mns asked about england. He is chatting about Palmer Foden not mentioning Saka
Welcome in Swindon any time Glenn!
glenn begs the question. Why didnt you play the players in there best position? surely you pick the team?
I recently decided to start watching the overlap , honestly I didn’t want to because carragher and Neville’s commentating on matches is absolutely woeful! They’re too biased like fans would be and that’s not a commentators job! A commentator has to be neutral because both sets of fans are listening and don’t want opinions they want to know what’s going on ! But watching these I appreciate their careers and drive a lot more especially carragher! That’s why I’m happy Keane and wright don’t commentate! I’m hooked and honestly I remember the era they talk about and I miss it win lose or draw it meant something, football is robotic now it’s lost its heart and this show proves it, aguero de bruyne and haaland wouldn’t have these stories In twenty years, so I appreciate these lads more and this show
Glenn Hoddle……..GENIUS!!
Where abouts does Roy say Glenn was his fav player?
"I hear Glenn Hoddle has found God; that must have been one hell of a pass." Jasper Carrott.
