WHEELING, W.Va. — The Wheeling Country Club is closing at the end of the year.
In a letter sent to members by CEO Eric Mauck dated Wednesday, it states the club, founded in 1902, will operate until Dec. 31.
In the letter, Mauck writes: “After giving careful thought and reviewing multiple alternatives, we have made the difficult decision that the Wheeling Country Club will close permanently at the end of this year. As you know, the club has had significant challenges for many years.”
Mauck said in the letter the process of finding potential alternatives for future use of the club has begun. He said officials have already begun discussions with Oglebay and “other community stakeholders.”
Final statements will be sent Jan. 2, according to the letter. Also, anyone with items in a locker or bag storage is asked to contact Rich Conwell to have them removed by Dec. 21.
