Convenhamos que os antigos estavam mais corretos. Que obstáculo a atravessar no pulo que daria a oportunidade de correr por tanto espaço numa superfície lisa? O salto antigo era muito mais útil na vida real. Deviam existir as duas modalidades até hoje! Isso sim é esporte! Esporte que depende de notas não é esporte.

However, it's unfair to compare the two because they didn't allow running before the jump. It's not like people were stupid or never thought about it before. It simply wasn't allowed in the rules.

I would actually love to see a from-standing long jump competition. It'd be a whole different thing. That and a vertical leap competition.
