The flooding at Claremorris Golf Club in Co Mayo
Storm Bert continues to hit hard in parts of Munster and Connacht but golfers at Claremorris Golf Club in Co Mayo hope to return to action later next week.
The River Robe, which runs through the course, overflowed in recent days and a social media video shows the third and eighth fairways completely submerged.
“This often happens when there are particularly heavy rains,” a club spokesperson said. “Claremorris drains well and is often the only club open when others near us are closed.
“There is a point on the course around the third and eighth fairways that is susceptible to flooding in extreme circumstances as the River Robe runs through that area.
“But the water is already draining away quickly and we expect to be back to normal within the next few days.”
The River Blackwater burst its bank in Mallow but the golf club was unaffected and while it remains closed today, it is expected to reopen on Monday.
