  1. Epic fail. High handicap need MASSIVE help in short game yet you pulled only 1 wedge, I’ll assume the Callaway set has a PW. I’m a decent golfer, 4.3 index, a well above average ball striker who cannot putt😂. I carry 3 wedges; 48, 54.5, 60. I do play very traditional lofted Miura’s where my 9 iron is 44.

Those game improvement Callaway’s I’m betting are 38-39* 9-iron, I’ve even seen a 37 from one of the brands. Again, assuming the Callaway set included a PW, that was likely a 42-43*. You then added 1 more wedge? 🤦‍♂️ The average hack playing that set should be carrying 4 additional wedges from that 42* PW and only go to 6-iron unless they have a solid and efficient swing generating 95+ mpg club speed with 5 iron. Even with the low CG of these game improvement irons, a 21-22* 5-iron they simply will not launch consistently enough with sufficient spin to control that flight.

They commonly lack the touch and finesse skill to hit the same wedge 3-4 different distances, much less control the skin and flight. They are MUCH better off with more wedges, allowing them to focus on one repeatable swing, vary distances with loft alone.

Ideal makeup for a high handicap player:
Driver – prefer 44.5” length unless they are very consistent within 10mm of face center
    4-5 wood – I like a 16.5 loft in shorter 5-wood length of 42”
19 & 22* hybrid- can substitute 7 or 9 wood for 19, dept on fitting session results
    6-9 irons
5 wedges, at least 1 12-14* bounce SW unless no bunkers or bunkers are very wet and heavy. I also like min 10* bounce 51-53.* as strong SW unless home course is Bermuda and hardpan only around greens.
Throw in a putter, you’ve got 14 clubs, all usable for a high handicap player and hopefully a set they can grow with to get that handicap both more consistent and lower. The key is more scoring clubs that require minimal finesse for players that lack the finesse skills
