Fitzroy 16.13.109 def Essendon 13.16.94 Commentators Peter Landy and Lou Richards. Thanks Ken. You can find the complete last quarter at this link http://youtu.be/8Oy9ug2F_40?si=LlOTwmyKuPCbhY6V
Have to tag this for myself to watch at a later stage. But I loved this era of Eliminitis for Essendon. They won 15 games in a row that season and do not make it past the opening match of the finals series. Never seen the match in full so this should be watched with lots of popcorn some night during my work week. Great upload!
The game was far more open in this era, players in position instead of zones and floods and 30+ players in one half of the field. Kick disposal was better than most players today, stab passes, possibly because the game was more open and players were under less pressure outside of the stoppages. I knew Mick Conlon as I played with his brother…for me this era is the best style of play. You get some good games of course nowadays, but a lot of the games I turn off when they get too defensive and flooded.
Up by 37 earlier the Roy's deserved to win this game. In fact they had some red hot players back then & a handy team. They missed a GF in the 80's by one kick & frequently played off in the top 5 finals series & just missing out coming 6th in 89. The 90's unfortunately were not so good to them.
Dons were absolutely flying and l remain convinced they wooda walked the Flag in if N Daniher hadda stayed fit. It wasn't so much about one player but just that he was so integral andhis loss threw their balance out of whack for at least the next two seasons.

Astonishing to realise that apart from Kevin Sheedy, the last Essendon coach to win a final was Jack Clarke in 1968.

Looks like today's game ….WITHOUT THE PSEUDO INTELLECTUAL ANALYTICS
