There was lots of football to take in yesterday as the NFL kicked off their first full slate of games. Should the way those games played out impact expectations for the Jets season opener?

  1. Week 1 showed that Salehs thesis that joint practice replaces pre season, it doesn't. Lions Rams was a good game, but it had its slop too. Cincy was absolutely horrible.

I think the game will come down to how prepared the teams are. I dont worry about the jets defense, D inherently is advanced over the O,so that will help the Jets.

The problem is on the O. Purdy has an advantage, he is playing in a system.he knows well and is playing with a lot of the players he had, that is huge. Plus I think Shanahan also will have a game plan acknowledging the lack of playing.

It is going to be hard for the Jets especially since they are counting on AR to be QB and OC. He hasnt played under pressure in nearly 2 years, he will be dealing with that then trying to be OC too, it is a lot.

You add up the lack of pre season action and the jets under Saleh sleeping the first half commonly, and they could be in a position where they are too far behind to come back.

And obviously given the nature of week 1 games, if shanahan&co has jets number, can they adjust?

With JD I understand the feelings ( I don't agree). Houston had a team with nothing, and they turned it around in a couple of years. It was stroud, of course, it was the coaching staff, but they did it. In the NFL today 6.yrs in eternity. Not to mention JD mulliganing last year+ wilson being backup.

My take on JD is this year has to be the accountable year. If jets fail to do well, then Douglas is to a large extent responsible. It will be on Saleh&his coaches obviously, and JD is Salehs boss.

Plus JD was forced into a win now situation in getting AR. If that fails, and let's say AR retires, the Jets are faced with losing top talent and not having a good QB of the future in place. Would you extend a gm where the team likely would need another 2 to 3 yrs to have a QB, assuming they draft someone in 2025? Travis is highly unlikely imo to be a good pro QB.

Obviously if the jets have a decent year ( and I am not talking 9 and 8 as a winning year, that is SOJ). I am not saying winning the division, neither buffalo nor Miami looked good but it is week 1,both will be better. But we need to get into the playoffs with a good record ,( min 10 7) and advance before talking about either Saleh or Douglas. If let's say the jets have a meh year, but we decide JD is ok , will he have the brains to can Saleh&his offensive offensive staff? Lack of accountability is a major knock against a gm in my book.

Parcells rule still applies, you can make excuses , even valid ones, but your record still counts.

Basically this year will be the tell, there can be no excuses. If we have a raft of injuries ,( once again), then something is wrong. One bad season w injuries is a freak, multiple is a trend.
