Ryan Howsam, Chairman of Legends Tour and Staysure Travel Insurance Group and Keith Mitchell, Legends Tour CMO directly respond to the five key points raised by Rick Shiels:

1. Speed of growth – Legends Tour taking 2 years to gain 1.7M subscribers compared to DP World Tour taking 14 years to get to half a million and PGA Tour have been doing this for 18 years to get to 1.4M
2. Number of videos that Legends Tour have posted compared to the subscriber base doesn’t match the likes of all the other leading Tours such as PGA Tour and DP World Tour and golf brands, such as Rick Shiels, Good Good Golf, etc.
3. Significant spikes in subscribers in short periods, e.g 30K in one day
4. Some videos with no comments
5. Rick suggests based on the four key points that there is something “dodgy”, it, “can’t be right”, and suggests we are cheating the system, and/or buying subscribers

PS…don’t forget to SUBSCRIBE to Legends Tour now for highlights from every tournament plus player profiles, swing analysis and all the greatest shots and amazing moments. Official senior tour of the DP World Tour.

  1. You get the sense of a lot of jealousy on Prick Shiels part. How he’s bewildered that putting content out with quality golfers playing on a fantastic tour in beautiful locations isn’t going to attract subscribers then hopefully his channel is doomed. I’m bewildered that a ‘pro’ who can barely shoot 80 gets so many subscribers with what is basically crap golf. I wonder how much he payed Bones to be in his latest video 🤔

  2. Much more interesting to have this conversation publicly on YouTube than for you to have done it privately. Now we all get to learn something …. Rick has also handed you some subscribers and views for sure, myself included as i wouldve had buckleys of watching any legends tour content otherwise.

  3. This video is out for 15 hrs and had just 863 views (tiny!) , with 1.8m subscribers?, is something i have never seen…. (Sample size n=1 fwiw)

I subscribe to a lot of other much smaller channels that would have views in the 10's of thousands within the same time frame… Why would your viewers be less likely to click on subscribed content by such a huge margin.. ? It seems out of the ordinary in my experience with anything else on youtube

How much do you trust your IT guys? You sure theyre not yanking your chain?

I understand what you said in this video…but, youd need a staggering number of people to not click on suggested videos in their feed to have so few views… It seems improbable

  4. Shiels so starved for content he has to piggy back off a legitimate and strategic World Tour for views. Times must be tough, especially when you have to play so dumb that you don't remember playing in 2 Legends Tour events and to not know that Challange Tour actually exists – I mean really Rick, come now, so weak bud.

  5. What does an organic vs organicpaid strategy mean?! To me that means you are buying fake subscribers, which in most peoples book is cheating. It doesn't matter if you class it as a legitimate means to grow your subscriber count. Your viewer numbers compared to subscribers doesnt line up to be anything other than mainly paid subscribers.

  6. Did you manage to say ‘we have spent money getting subs’ without saying we’ve bought subscribers?’ I get it’s a different strategy and that it can be done and you are a business but you still are hiding a little around what you have done. It’s clear what you are doing when you refer to us as ‘customers’ rather than subscribers/ fans.

  7. These guys must think every YouTube watcher are fools to believe they have 1.8 million subscribers. Half of there vids have 0 views, and I didn’t see one vid with more than 1k except one which miraculously has 380k. Make it make sense.
