Biggest problem for me with the broadcast is the music on course and the music in the broadcast. It induces and anxious feeling and is off-putting. It gets really annoying.
I like Bryson but he is sports washing – Bryson is now very much a public figure and as such he knows endorsement looks like approval. If you can actually understand the incoherent ramblings of that guy and still approve of him then it says something about you. Playing golf doesn’t mean he’s a good guy there are lots of evil bastards that play golf.
British Open was really bad this year. I didn't even watch the last day. Had to turn it off. I watched all of LIV last weekend. So yes, LIV was better than "the open".
Guy I couldn’t agree more with Terrell Hatton. I really when players complain about every shot like it’s impossible that they were the cause of it. That’s one of the reasons I don’t like watching Jordan Speith. I just don’t like that kind of arrogance
Me and my friends have a rule, all par threes must be filmed for hole in one purposes 😂
Olympic golf would be so much better if it was some kind of skills thing rather than a regular 72 hole tournament….. They could have Long Drive + Chipping + Putting + nearest to the pin and points for all or something. Make it something different and better for spectators…..
I want to see a Guy vs. Rick video, where you guys play a course under 7,000 yrds or from the white tees, Guy with TM Mini and Rick with Callaway Mini!!! No drivers!
I knew when Rick didn’t go play the golf national prior to the Olympics he was going to hate on the event (especially one so close to you).. opening ceremony was first of a kind, and the course for the tournament is exciting (Sean & Luke played it and it was fun) Disappointed
Last part was called answering your questions lol don’t think that was meant to be the title haha
Had a horror show last Fri on a tough course here in Japan and, as a 5.5HC, was tracking for 100+ after 12. Potentially my worst score in 10years (end up worst in 3 years)! Managed to finish with a 6 hole par streak which ended up being a huge psychological win (still shot 94 but achieved the mid round goal of making it respectable and finding my game). Some big lesson learned.
Regarding Guy's score and NR's in general, what is difficult to understand is that he played the rest of the round so a certain number of shots still happened regardless ie. he hit the ball X number of times in reality but chose to not write it down and/or acknowledge it which is where, perhaps, damaged ego comes in. There's no way someone continues playing and isn't still consciously thinking of their score on each hole after claiming to stop formally counting. Just log it and move on and focus on the "enjoyment" factor thereafter.
Golf isn't really worth playing if there is no score. Even if you mess around, you're still trying to hit a target in as few shots as possible. My point being Golf = scoring. Score means you set a goal, decide a strategy and that then requires you to hit certain shots meaning jeopardy – which is why most of us play and love it. So yeah, not life and death but a bit of a cop out imo.
When I play a solo round, I never keep score. It's not about the score. When I finish, I look back at what I did good and what I need to focus on next round.
The Liv tour is a rubber-stamped the Saudi Kingdom’s ongoing sports washing efforts: trying to obscure or at least distract from their decades-long history of human rights violations by putting athletes front and center and hoping they’ll be who fans associate with Saudi Arabia, and not all their documented atrocities.
Hatton is the biggest baby
Hey guys. I've been a regular listener of the podcast for more than a year now and love the content.
To address Guy's point, I'm sorry but if you don't card a final score, YOU DID QUIT the game. It doesn't matter that you weren't a d**k for the remainder of the game, that you were still cheery and didn't spoil the experience for your playing partners (which is the behavior expected of decent golfers, anyway), if you don't have a final score – YOU DID QUIT the game.
And I think it just boils down to acceptance. If Guy shot 100 or more that day then in the back of his mind, he'd be a single handicapper who can still shoot 100+. So what?!?!?! That's golf, man! It just makes all those times you shoot near your handicap that much more fulfilling.
Just my 2 cents worth. Keep up the great work with the podcast!
Why do u call the PGA purists? Why not “old school”. Boring etc. But purists ??????
Comparing a ufc crowd to a golf crowd. Pure stupidity.
Why is Guy wearing two watches?
Guy… Just finish and track your score. It's entertainment. You left us out of the game by not tracking….
Guy bringing up the rowdiness at LIV is so stupid. The wasted management was much worse because they have 12 hours of play with 12 hours of alcohol service. LIV has 4-5 hours. Just enough to enjoy yourself, not enough to be an idiot. If Guy is suggesting something needs to be reigned in for a 4-5 hour tournament, he needs to join his 70 year old relative and just not attend. He’s always been a weak-wristed windsock when it came to LIV so now while he is forced to give them props, he tries to add some token negativity so he can straddle the line he so desperately needs us to define for him.
The conclusion ok liv is, both saying it’s fit young folk. Bring agist isn’t a good look, quite a derogatory comment if you ask me
oh my..Rick with the ol tides raise ships talk when anyone that watches for a while knows how SALTYYYYYY he is about bryson's video. He couldn't care less about Bryson, gave his us open predictions Bryson dechambeau wasn't even mentioned, Bryson won "Rick shiels lucky charm, friend of the podcast ",now 10M views "I'll take credit, i started the break series "🤣
Can't hassle him enough to film now hey Rick?
The day someone surpasses Rick in subscribers (it'll happen i GARANTEE ,the downhill fall already started months ago, getting less views than channels 1/4 size),Rick will try suic
The LIV broadcast is fine. It can be tweaked on an ongoing basis, but they do a decent job of keeping a lot of info on screen imho.
Tyrell Hatton is great value. I enjoy watching him putting with a wedge for half a round because he's snapped his putter etc. I'm all for dealing with severe frustration immediately rather than internalising & having it fester like a cancer. Him & Rahm on the same team in LIV totally makes sense & are great fun to watch. 🙂
Why do you keep going on about LIV Rick?
I’m a 7 handicap and the other day I was +14 after 4 holes hit my drive in the rough on 15th tried hackout decide that’s enough lifted it up time to nr
I went to LIV and it was brillait, but the cost of food and drink was madness, even for an event, £6.50 for a 330ml can of beer is day light robbery, can of pop £3.50-£4 for a 330ml can, just shocking
NO excuse Guy for NR, your the avg golfer playing Troon, your score counts to me. Guy loves LIV , what a turnaround from "LIV is trash" . LIV UK was amazing to watch on app with no add breaks.
If you watch the video they did at Troon, Guy stated very clearly, that he was going to NR and then only play a few shots here and there. It didn't turn out that way in the end, but kids have ears not just eyes.
These “observations” about Hatton are a bit cringe. Can guarantee you’d have him on a podcast or 10 shot challenge and wouldn’t be complaining about his attitude to his face!
I was watching the LIV stream on Friday and I saw the signature par 3 hole and said, hey that’s Rick Shiels golf course!
12 year old girl born in 2002???🤣
From a YouTube viewing point of view, it was great that was a free stream. But the music in the background is distracting and I find the scoreboard and graphics kind of tacky. Also I think it would be difficult to get invested into the teams, despite the commentators going on about them constantly.
Challenge – try to record 3 podcasts in a row without mentioning Tiger Woods 😉
Rick Shiels podcast?…Not anymore..he seems have been taken over!! Please get back to your original concept.
Olympic gold should definitely have longest drive included, but for the pro’s, it should be a bracket of 2 v 2 scramble single elimination over the course of 4 days.
I went to LIV at JCB it was a good day out as you say it is a lot more relaxed, casual and fun than a normal tournament. The shotgun start worked with staying in one place and seeing everybody my only negative was from a golf perspective I didn’t feel there was any real jeopardy for the players, there is no cut to make or qualification, and they seemed quite relaxed.people didn’t seem bothered about the leaderboard
LIV would be watchable if the underlying tone of sportswashing, and money grabbing millionaires wasn’t thrust at you at every opportunity. Those that tolerate it, either have been paid or aren’t that bothered about atrocities.
Hearing the stories of the high scorecards made me stop and actually start counting my drops, when I played on my own I'd just count the hits and not the couple penalties but it really is judt lying to myself.
Can't stand liv & hopefully there is no deal
You guys are amazing, two years ago you were complaining about the team format being "rubbish". Now you love the event at JCB. Why is LIV supposed to carry the mantle for something you would never expect about The Open or a DP World or PGA event? "How is this going to affect the non-golfer". The Waste Management Open is as loud as any LIV event if you remove the music.
Right ! Here goes – I was 100% against LIV golf…not because of the concept but because of where the money comes from and the way the owners conduct their lives is not something I wanted to put next to our great game…but the bottom line is, I am a HUGE golf fan so I gave the JCB a go.
I went for all 3 days at 10am till 7pm each night and I have been to a lot of golf events. I went 2 days with my 16 year old and then on the Sunday with my other boy and my wife and I have to put my hand on my heart and say I totally enjoyed the experience.
Plus Points:
– Loved the music!!! Never thought I would….but it was great, loved the background music on the holes and party hole was great!
– Loved the American commentator, made me feel like I was experiencing something on holiday at Disney or something ! Haha!
– The shotgun start! – with my family it was great to do a a good 4.5hr quality golf round and enjoy the other things.
– The team element was great fun actually !!! Never thought it would be of interest, but it was.
– We all got close to the players, once the huge Bryson crowd had gone, we felt like it was very intimate and players would say hi and talk
– My boys got loads of selfies and autographs from Bryson, Bubba, Westwood and many more – all of them happy and chatty which was so different from other tournaments.
Bad Points
– The drinking was totally out of control with certain groups. One guy I spoke to while in a food queue said they had 15 beers and only 2hrs in! He struggled to stand. Ok, I too love a beer but it ended up with him telling the server in food van to F off and got gobby, I walked way.
– Again the drink – on the way to the car park people were climbing the poles and ripping the flags down and snapping the flag poles, smashing the signage for the LIV teams and their friends all cheering.
– One guy walking around the crowd with his pants down and urinating all over his shorts exposing himself to families with small children and his friends all cheering. Was disgusting and to be honest he should have been done for exposing himself to kids as he was laughing etc…..the police should have stepped in as was near the exit.
– Adults should be allowed who walk the course be limited to 3 alcoholic drinks only on an app QR code.
– Food was very expensive and not allowing food to be brought in as totally disgusting. A lot of people were asking at food stations if they can guarantee nut free kitchen as their food for the guys wife was confiscated on the way in – and they couldn’t. He was really annoyed and said he was doing 3 days and couldn’t risk her.
– A guy had special selected food and drink and a medical note as he cant eat a lot of solids and they wanted to take it off him, 3 staff came and told him no he can’t bring it in, he said he cant eat food at the vendors and they still refused – he walked out really upset.
– My main issue other than the drink was the lack of 4G and 5G signal. Even when we was early we had nothing !!! I was on o2 but also EE and Vodaphone was terrible. A few American fans who have done a few LIV events I heard the same its first event they could not follow leader board and maps on the LIV app. If JCB want to expand they need to get the phone companies to either expand here or offer FREE high usage wifi on the whole course. It was terrible for food vendors for apple pay, use of LIV app, and contacting people on the course.
But I will go again ! And was great to meet Guy !
Fantastic Guy the way you viewed the 191 round. After some major surgery to my back and hip I’m just getting back into golf after about 12 years and your comments have spurred me on to go for it and have fun. Thanks 👍👍👍
Team event enjoyed by the players but teams are typically regional, Liverpool, Manchester City, New York Yankees, LA Dodgers. The Olympics is by Country, they should do the same, for larger countries like the US have US West Coast, US Southern States, Southern Europe, Asia, even Southern Hemisphere, so ithere's a connection to people to follow. Don't mind the young, drinking, Music etc as long as it doesn't spill to to the traditional tournaments as some organiser says they need to grow the game. I work in a noisy and chaotic environment, if I want load, music etc there is Ice Hockey to watch, but if I need quiet to get away from it there is golf and some other sports. Not all sporting events need should be the same.
Guy looking at the computer almost the whole time while talking to Rick isn't a good look. Are you reading what you're saying? Look at the person you are talking to
