okay everybody let’s welcome the winner of Liv Golf and Lucia our captain of fireballs GC Sergio [Music] Garcia yes yes thank you Sergio that everything that happened out there seem to happen really fast I know you haven’t had a moment yet but can you try to articulate the emotions that you are feeling right now in this moment yeah it was H I mean it was amazing um very overwhelmed after after making that P on 18 to win after seeing uh my teammates win it um as um you know the team the team uh the team um event it was uh I mean it was amazing so much so much hard work uh so many so many hours uh put in with uh with my wife with um with my dad with with Matt uh my mental coach with with everyone with uh with Andrew with you know with obviously with um with Neil uh my new caddy it’s been uh you know it’s been hard it’s been great don’t get me wrong it’s been great but it’s been hard you know losing losing a couple of uh of playoffs this year uh being really close to to qualifying for for the British Open and and and trying to make it myund major um so just missing close uh you know like 10 days ago so um you know it’s been it’s been roller coaster for sure but you know I knew I was playing well I U I love this place um you know I love I love these people and so uh so thankful for uh to everyone for you know what uh we’re able to to achieve today and I don’t know I don’t know I might be wrong but I think that if if the soccer team wins tonight it could be probably one of the biggest days in the history of uh Spanish Sports um I would say I mean you know alcar as winning as winning both individually and and uh and as a team and uh and then the uh the the national team winning the the EUR cup I mean it would be uh it would be amazing to to have all those four things happening the same day it would be uh it would be amazing it almost felt like it was written in the stars the script how it all played out you end up winning the individual the Fireballs end up winning the team and all the support that was out there from all the Spanish people can you talk a little bit about the support that you felt out there and if that kind of helped push you through yeah I mean I was uh for sure I mean I felt it I feel it every time I’m I’m very lucky I feel it every time wherever I go but but obviously you know in a home turf and and here in balarama would have done so well uh I always feel it and and that’s you know one of the main reasons why I love playing here uh not only the difficulty and the beauty of the course and uh but you know the support that that we get here it’s it’s amazing so you know it was um it was I was so focused though on on what I was trying to achieve um not knowing if it was going to be good enough or not uh to to get to get the win but you know I was playing hard I was playing really really well giving myself a lot of chances uh and uh you know making some nice pots here and there so um you know obviously obviously when I when I three pted uh the third hole my my 7c my 54th hole um you know I I was still very happy about the way that everything went and and how I how I I felt throughout the day but obviously you know the other two playoffs come to mind and you think oh man another second you know it’s it’s a great week but unfortunately just a little bit you know a little bit a little bit short again and and then uh you know then all of a sudden you have another life uh you have another chance and uh and then the team had another chance and you know some of the finishes that they put on to to be able to to get into the playoff and and then obviously win the playoffs so it was it was just a it was a a dram come true kind of day I was talking to some people obviously I’ve been by your side as some of these playoffs have happened previously and I was telling people that you have been the most gracious person uh such a incredible show of um sportsmanship throughout all of it how much sweeter is it having had gone through those moments and then to take home the playoff now in Spain at valderama is it make all those other moments worth it yeah they’re all worth it uh Jane they’re all worth it they’re all they’re all a learning process they’re all uh you know they’re all and don’t get me wrong every time every time you you get into a playoff or um you know you’re finishing second or something like that you’ve had a great week uh obviously we all want to win and and sometimes it doesn’t happen unfortunately but they’re all great weeks and they’re the weeks that you can learn a lot from and that’s what I that’s what I try to do even though when you just finish it stinks and and and it hurts and and um you know it’s it’s tough but uh but then when you settle down and you start thinking about it and and all the great things you did throughout the week to give yourself a chance you realize that it was a great week so um obviously this week is even better uh but um yeah know it was uh they’re all they’re all good learning uh learning experiences and last one for me just about the team and can you talk a little bit about your uh your colleagues on your team and what they had to pull off this week to this incredibly difficult week and very tough conditions and what they had to do uh to pull through to bring that win home for you guys yeah I’m so proud of them um all all of them for uh for the kind of players they are for the kind of people they are um I know that uh obviously David had a really tough first day and and he was he was down and we had a talk on on on Friday night and you know I try to help him as much as I can uh he’s he’s just a wonderful wonderful human being and um you know and it was great to see him come back and and and play well again and and obviously oeno had a had a good solid week unfortunately he didn’t play as well as he would lik today but and then Abraham you know he he fought hard he always does and it’s um you know it’s great to uh to to get our first I think it’s our first win of the year after a couple of seconds so um it’s nice to u to be able to do that and and hopefully move a little closer into um you know higher higher positions for for the team championship in in Dallas is Abe officially a Spaniard now for sure even before the week was over he was uh he was officially officially uh uh you know we adopted him as a as a Spanish I even made him wear the the Spanish colors and you know we Chang our outfits for this week I wanted to do something special for for this week here in Spain wearing obviously Spanish colors on the weekend uh but I thought you know I can’t do this to to Abe the whole week so I I gave him I gave him Mexican colors on on the first day with a with a green and white so um you know it was uh it was a fun week great uh Serio where would you rank this victory in your career the fact that it’s your first on live it’s at valderama but also ends a 5year drought anywhere in the world I believe where where does this stack up in your career um well I mean obviously I obviously I won 2020 uh so uh I guess it’s just a little B under four years um when I was sanderson’s Farm but um it’s it’s it’s very important uh it’s it’s obviously huge uh I keep telling everyone how difficult it is to win out here H you know at the beginning everyone thought that you know we were all retired here and there was no competition or anything like that and it’s so hard to win out here you know all these guys they practice so much and I mean I’m practicing more than I than I ever did before uh and uh 44 because if I don’t I feel like I’m going to get stuck behind so um it’s uh you know it’s it’s really amazing to be able to do it in your home country in front of uh in front of my family in front of so many friends and and on my favorite golf course so um it’s it’s obviously super super super nice you just mentioned the fact that you’re you’re 44 now but you’re practicing as as hard as you ever have I think one of the things that the fans have loved about your move over here is that you haven’t stopped trying to qualify for the US Open and the Open Championship um tell tell me like where the hunger is for for the majors and just for professional golf in general still you know I said it excuse me I said at the US Open um that I am I am so thankful for live uh and I don’t want to sound I don’t want to sound like like I’m bragging or anything like that I’ve been very fortunate to play pretty much every single major since the British Open in 99 uh until 2023 I only missed the Masters because of Co and even though you realize that the majors are super important and and it’s what we love to play and stuff when you get the chance of playing so many in a row you start you start forgetting how difficult it actually is to make it into those Majors uh this last uh year and a half or so I’ve realized how difficult it is you know going and playing qualifiers and and stuff like that and and you know you’re playing one day you you hit two bad shots and you’re out so um so it’s it’s giving me a a definitely a different perspective on on the majors on how much they mean on how how much harder I’m trying when I’m when I’m playing them and and the the US Open was a was a good example of that you know I was trying so hard to to have a good week and play well and get in the top 10 so then I will qualify for the next year and things like that and then obviously play the qualifier couple like 10 days ago for the for the Brant and just missing just missing out so um I know I know uh even more how how hard it is and how important the majors are and and I still want to play as many as I can you know and you know hopefully things get better and and we start getting spots into into coming into some of some of the majors but uh but if not I’ll just keep playing qualifiers until until my body says enough is enough you know I guess all right thanks Sergio what is it about valer drama and you and your success here I mean there’s horses for courses but this goes seemingly goes far beyond that how how do you explain that and did did you feel like it was fate really for you and the Fireballs to win today I don’t know Mike to to be totally honest it’s just there’s a connection between balderama and myself that uh that I can’t even explain it um you know i’ as difficult as this golf course is and and as tricky and sometimes feels a little bit unfair as it might be uh sometimes it just I just seem to have something uh with this course that uh that it just first of all is my favorite course in the world so obviously that helps me because I see everything a little bit better than than uh then some of the guys might see it um I I would love to transfer this into austa uh because I see things a little bit differently there and I hope I hope that going forward I can see it I can change my mind there and kind of start start to enjoy it more uh when I go and and and play and play the Masters and that’s that’s what I was talking about before uh so hopefully my mind is starting to realize those things and and you know go out there and enjoy it and and and try as hard as you can and you know at the end of the day that’s that’s all you can do so I I didn’t know I mean I obviously knew that we had a chance I I knew that this course with four scores to count Anything Can Happen uh because if one of the guys have a little bit of a bad day and shoots six over everyone is back in the game so so I knew that if we play if we play well uh we we had a chance obviously I started really well and and and the team started going up and up and up and and uh you know and we going to the lead or tip for the lead and and um you know it was it was great to to be able to have one more shot at it individually and as a team uh after after I finished my round because then he felt like we were going to lose probably both by a shot and and then uh thankfully we didn’t and then we managed to both to win both both playoffs which you know it doesn’t happen that often so we’re very thankful for that and I wanted to ask you about you finished on the third hole as you mentioned I’m making my I’m making my anwers so long sorry it’s okay that’s it’s good good stuff you finished on the third hold you didn’t I don’t think you were back at 18 yet when Bon finished is that correct or no we were we were actually riding on the van uh and we were just going by 18 and we obviously heard the the the crowds going crazy uh so we figured we figured that he might have missed his parad um and then as soon as we stopped then they said well actually I had John next to me and said he was checking the scores he’s like oh I think he made bogy so you’re still you’re still in this thing so uh he obviously wished me back and it was nice to um you know to be able to to have another shot at it did you feel like in the playoff that you had the more pressure knowing you were playing in front of your home crowd and obviously everybody wanted you to win or did Bon have more pressure given the fact that you could have won in regulation yeah I mean obviously he had the last part to win it uh obviously I also I also B the last hole uh but um I I feel good I feel fine I actually I I actually told Neil um on uh on the second I think it was on the second try on on our second play of Hall we were walking down uh after hitting a T-shirt and I looked at him and said this is fun isn’t it so um you know I love those moments and uh you know to be able to to have that here Bama my favorite course in my home country and and you know after seeing my teammates Win It um it was um you know I felt I felt good obviously you do feel some pressure but uh but I feel I feel good about it I appreciate it congrats English English s congratulations and um you might recall I shook your hand like last night on the way out and I’d like to think I might have contributed a little bit to the luck today anything helps um I’ve seen I personally have seen you win here three times now Mike stole the Thunder for me in his questions I would love to think that the ghost of SE is doing something to give you wings yeah without a doubt we always think of him and he about theama even more uh I think that it’s uh you know he’s always he’s always on our minds and and we wish that he was still here with us and as everyone knows he’s he was my idol and U you know I I um I think of him uh very very often and talk about him very often so um it’s great to to be able to to get another one down here does someone like him the inspiration that he provides give you the drive the bite and the the sh guts to say right I’m taking this I’m I’m I’m I’m wanting it I I will not let go yeah without a doubt I mean that and uh my team my wife uh you know know the the support that I get from her I mean I feel like I feel like she believes in me more than I believe in myself uh and and it’s amazing to see that uh so um but um yeah it’s it’s it’s always great to to have those memories and and some of the memories that I had with sebie and and some of the memories I’ve had here in balarama with my family and and our kids and and you know it’s just it’s just been amazing so I’m I’m so thankful that uh that I’m able to to keep doing things like this year and very lastly your best and your worst memory in all those years you played while drama well I mean I’ve thankfully I’ve had a lot of great memories um I think probably my worst memory is is um you know the year that I obviously I was struggling mentally with what was going on with me personally and and it was my worst uh my worst tournament here at uh at balarama uh probably I think is the only non non-top 10 I had here in balarama out of 15 or 16 tries so that’s probably the worst one but so many good ones uh obviously my first win here with uh with haime patinho uh and how much it meant to to him for me to win here um this one uh it means a lot with Javier REO and and all the support I get here so there’ve been there’ve been a lot of amazing moments last call for English questions English you have one yeah oh sure for our cont okay uh Sergio quick one on a historic day for Spain potentially obviously you’re two sorry three fours of the way did that factor into a team talk last night when you’re talking to the guys saying look we have a chance to make history here let’s go out and do it because you guys weren’t far back yeah um no I mean obviously obviously I think it was in our minds uh we uh we obviously we texted each other and and wished each other good luck and and just kind of help each other on uh we knew what was at stake obviously but we could only control our thing I guess in in a way so we couldn’t control what Carlos could do against jovic we couldn’t we can’t control what the what the national team does against uh against England but um you know at least um you know we’ve done three of the four things uh so far so um you know hopefully uh we’ll get to celebrate again tonight
