two more PGA Tour cards for 2025 have been claimed on the road to French [Music] Lick hi everyone I’m Ryan Belling and welcome once again to the road to French lck a show chronicling the 2024 corn fairy tour season culminating in the corn fairy TOUR Championship presented by United Leasing and finance played for the next five years on the Pete die course of French Lake Resort in French Lake Indiana with the season ending tournament determining the fate of 30 PGA Tour cards for the 2025 season on this week’s show we’re joined by Jackson Buchanan the Big 10 golfer of the Year from the University of Illinois who made his corn fairy tour debut at the Memorial health Championship as well as Shawn Walsh who joined us from the good good Midwest open at the French lck Resort in frenchlick Indiana he joined us to talk about his career playing on the corn fairy tour PGA tour Canada and PGA Tour Latino America now known together as PGA Tour Americas as well as good good we had two tournaments since we’ve last corresponded with you on this show and the first one is the compliance Solutions Championship which was played on the Jimmy Austin OU Golf Club affiliate with Oklahoma University in Norman Oklahoma the winner of that tournament is a firsttime corn fairy tour winner yet another this season John pack and John finished tournament with a three- shot win on 23 under 265 defeating Jackson subber who was the solo second place finisher he was also the last man in the US Open field at pineur number two when John Ram withdrew from the tournament finishing in third on the week was Steven Fisk who continued a great run of tournament golf this year and has been racking up points since his first victory of the Season John Daly II who you may know as John dy’s son John Dy Jr Little John Daly he made his coin fairy tour debut as well in this tournament in the second event right after the compliance Solutions Championship was the Memorial health Championship played in the Land of Lincoln at Panther Creek Country Club in Springfield Illinois the winner of that tournament is Max McGreevy who entered the final round with a One-Shot lead and made a 14ot birdie putt on the 72nd hole to secure the Victory and earn not only the Victory $180,000 and 500 corn fairy tour points but also secured himself a PGA Tour card for next season through the corn fairy tour points list no matter what he will be in the top 30 next year one of the high finishers yet again in this tournament a name you’re going to get used to seeing a lot of this year and perhaps next year on the PGA tour Steven Fisk who was able to earn enough points with his finish in the event to secure a PGA Tour card for next season which is not a bad consolation prize for not winding up as the champion with the trophy at the end of the day but is ass sure a spot on the PGA tour next year let’s hear from our winner of the Memorial health Championship Max McGreevy it’s still still surreal right now I mean um uh my caddy Tyler and I’s goal this seven week stretch was was to get my tour card back um you know obviously a win would have been nice but but playing these seven events and locking up the card is halfway through the season almost is is amazing so I’m super excited hopefully can just keep keep fighting I’m pretty sure Steven’s still ahead me on the points list so got to go got to go battle him down now but uh but but yeah it’s just super rewarding I’ve I’ve kind of been playing for seven years now so I think I’ve figured out the ways to either calm myself down to take a second um maybe took a couple years for me to figure that out but I think I’ve gotten to the point to where like I can actually um relax a little bit more on the golf course rather than I did in the past so um just just banking on some old memories and stuff like that and just figuring out kind of what works for me is just going to keep me in the best mindset all day with his one-hot win on 24 under 260 Max McGreevy not only locked up a spot on the PGA tour next season in the top 30 on the corn fairy tour points list he also racked up his sixth top 10 finish of the Year stepen Fisk for his part racked up his third top four finish in the last four starts on the Corin fairy tour and that brought us a new leader in the corn fairy tour points list for the first time in eight weeks Tim Ving is no longer the head of the table on the corn fairy tour points list that title now belongs to Steven Fisk who leads by a healthy margin on 1,4 36 points and we also continue to look as we do each week at the remainder of the top five in that coin fairy tour points list coming in its second is Max mcgrey again on six top 10 finishes this season at 1,35 58 points Tim Ving slides to third place just by a single point however 1,357 points Harry higs is in fourth on the list at 1,240 points and Taylor Dixon is in fifth position at 1,094 points our first guest this week on the road to French lck is Shawn Walsh and he has played on the corn fairy tour in two starts as well as 29 starts on PGA tour Canada and 14 starts on PGA Tour Latino America he joined our Brendan Sweeney at the good good Midwest open on the Pete die course at French Lake Resort to talk about his career his accomplishments and good good corn fairy championships coming the French Lake in October you just had a good little run on a golf course right here yeah uh almost had the the course record in the grass tell us about your round today dude it was uh it’s one of those I shot even so uh but 8,100 yards rating of 80 and A2 I believe or maybe even 80 81 that’s unbelievable um obviously very difficult off course but really for the most part you got to hit the tball good first off and fortunately enough I did I think I maybe missed one fair I think on 18 I hit in the bunkers but uh yeah I mean you got to really stripe the t-ball out here and that’s I mean that’s you know just the first of your problems out here I mean Pete Dy obviously known for you know making some of the most difficult golf courses possible and the greens I think is where it gets really tricky um you got to be really smart and you got to kind of place it in the proper sides of the fairways really to kind of get that angle to some of these pins um but what I think that you’re going to see a lot with the corn fairy guys they’re definitely not going to play 8100 yards that’s that’s way back but what you’re going to see is you’re going to see a lot of options for uh daytoday you know changing different holes and giving them different look so one day you might play a par for at 510 and the next day you could play it at 390 and I think that’s what makes French lck awesome is that it’s going to be different every time you come and play it and so I think that’s what the corn Fair boys are going to look forward to and while they’re going to have some birdie opportunities out there I’ll bet you the rough’s going to be up in October you can probably get those greens pretty firm I’ll bet you uh I’m going to probably say I’ll bet you 10 to 12 will probably be a pretty good score after four rounds so you had a pretty adventurous week here at French Lick tell us about your experience with the good good and how uh how the the French Lick Community has sort of jumped on board unbelievable I mean I knew the French Lick Community loved their Sports obviously with Mr bird being from here and all but uh and of course my Mavs just recently losing to the Celtics but other than that um no it was great I mean I think that they said they sold around like 2180 tickets or something like that 2600 26 yeah yeah I mean unbelievable and I mean just to see that first t- shot like with them like line too deep all the way like 30 yards down the box is uh it’s pretty special I mean I mean what good Good’s doing is obviously changing the game and to be able to highlight a place like French Lick at the same time is I mean it’s it’s truly an experience that I’ll never forget I’ve told multiple people I’m like that’s one of the most fun days I’ve ever had on a golf course uh now Steve and I granted we made a run there last seven holes we were kind of a little stagnant first 11 but uh we we had a good day we tied for third but I mean we’re just so thankful just for the opportunity to be at a place like this and to have an event like that so how how is the the generation of the social networkers taking the the the World of Golf by storm cuz I’m like get off my yard old man I mean I mean shoot I’m holding on to 29 for about four more days so uh so I’m I’m On The Fringe of it as well I mean I I never in a million years thought that you know this would even be a thing right uh like I I got introduced to it uh through a buddy that used to be in the group Luke Quan and uh you know he was making YouTube videos just to kind of help his Pro Golf career and I was just like I would always kind of poke fun on them be like oh you’re the YouTube sensation yada yada and then turns out they are the YouTube Sensations I mean good good is by far the biggest group I mean These Guys these guys are more noticeable probably than like a top I bet there’s guys in the top 25 in the world of pro golf that would probably be less recognizable than you know these guys in the good good group and so uh you know it’s it’s incredible it’s awesome because it’s getting young people into the game which I think is obviously that’s always the goal right um except for when Pete d goes and makes an 8100 golf course no I’m kidding but uh yeah I mean I think that it’s I think it’s really good for the game and it’s just something new right I mean golf you know golf kind of needs that sometimes you know it it it can you know there’s obviously that stereotype of you know just the the old dude out there playing with a stick up his butt it’s just like no that’s not it at all like golf is fun like golf’s meant to be fun and that’s what good good does they make it fun and the fact that now they’re making events to be able to interact with the fans is is pretty special about the golf entertainment side so off the golf course something like using top tracers at golf course you know at driving ranges uh putting you know you see short courses popping up all over the place we’re building one right now okay oh great yeah and then you tie in music and and some cocktails that post round stuff I mean it’s supposed to be fun right I mean it’s like you’re you’re going to be out here for 5 hours so you’re supposed to enjoy the people that you’re playing with and you’re supposed to be enjoying what you’re doing and golf is already a hard enough sport as it is that you got to find ways to make it fun and I think that’s the way that you get younger people into the game you get more people into the game that way um yeah the short course is great you know playing playing to your skill level which I I poked fun at Mr dive for making an 8100 yard golf course but at the same time you can play this there’s seven t- boox combinations out here or something like that so it’s like you can make it what you want it and I think that’s the important thing about um you know golf in the direction that it’s heading and I think that’s I mean especially at French Lick here you guys have three golf courses like you said you’re building a short course um you know off the golf course there’s so many things to do I mean it’s the perfect destination for a family whether you whether you or the spouse or whoever plays golf or not thanks so much to Sean Walsh for taking some time out of that experience at the good good Midwest open to talk with us about his career not only in professional golf but also representing the game so well with good good our second guest this week is Jackson Buchanan who made his corn fairy tour debut at the Memorial health Championship after playing in the US Open just a few weeks prior although missing the cut at Pinehurst number two qualifying was a tremendous accomplishment for the Big 10 golfer of the year and the tied second place finisher in the NCAA championships Jackson spoke with our Brendan Sweeney from Panther Creek Country Club about his experiences playing Collegiate golf as well as making the transition to the professional ranks all right Jackson McCannon welcome to uh to the road to French lck oh yeah uh sponsor exceptions this week at at uh at at in Springfield tell us how that came about um just funny story I was playing around with Max herendine one of our freshman now sophomore and got a call from Kate uh Peters and she let me know and I think we were playing a match and I ended up getting a little rattle I think I blew it at the end but I was just so pumped about this it’s exciting to test your game against the best and you know you know somewhere I might be you know in a year you never know so it’s it’s pretty exciting how’s your experience been at at the University of Illinois and uh you’ve had you’re going into your senior year right oh yeah you’ve played played some serious golf yeah it’s a it’s the best golf program in the country I think um it’s you know you learned so much from coach and and we’re all so close on the team it’s it’s something you get for four years and you really got to soak it in um but it just super awesome I could get emotional talking about my boys I love them but um I’m just learning so much really every day so you you grinded it out through the US Open qualifiers you made it down to Pinehurst yeah that that was a pretty big ballpark pretty big venue pretty cool experience tell us about it uh it was awesome I the the Monday Wednesday Tuesday was or Monday Tuesday Wednesday was pretty sick getting out playing some practice rounds it’s crazy how many fans there are on a practice round you’re hitting t- shots are all surrounded there in a practice round but it was awesome I got out on Thursday played terrible on the front nine and was like okay this is miserable so let’s actually play some good golf cuz I was out there just enjoying it I was like okay and now I have to play good golf so I played my last 27 holes one under so that that was solid miss a cut by one but just a super great experience best players in the world so who play see your game I I I I played with uh in the tournament played with Thomas diet and Brian Campbell Illinois group so that was pretty cool um but practice round played with a few big names Cam Davis he’s pretty good um played with Dunlap Sergeant few fun guys to hang out with right on what a great experience it must have been awesome awesome uh play well this week uh heading next week to John Deere John Deere y another exemption I I got the call right after I qualified for the US Open so it’s kind of all happening at once it’s was like okay this is kind of crazy but it’s awesome it’s just just experience out here on the tour I’m I’m a college kid I’m I’m getting experience on the on the pro circuit so um really nothing better I could ask for the guy’s been pretty cool you out here oh yeah absolutely so you know eating breakfast with with the guys on tour at the US Open you’re like oh these guys are just as normal as me I didn’t realize that walking by Scotty Sheffer saying high it’s just like oh these guys are normal so it’s that definitely helps a lot it’s great it’s great well good um you played actually Big 10 championships 2022 at uh at the die course what what do you think of that what what do you think of the d i i remember the first round it was so nice no wind I was a freshman I was nervous the it’s it’s wide open but the fairways are kind of tight so you got to narrow your folks but I remember Adrien shot like 64 I was like holy crap he’s the best player in the world but then the final round the wind blew and I think 73 might have been the lowest score I shot 79 and like helped the team it was crazy but it it was awesome the views are great it was sick so what do you f on social we just had a big gig up in our place did you see it at all I saw I mean I I didn’t get to watch it but I saw it all over Instagram I saw so the the the big putts the drives the iron shots two two inches it was it looked awesome and it was nice to see of course I played before I knew what was going on um but it was a little bit different I was in some different spots on those holes with the wind and stuff but it was pretty pretty cool to see well we wish you the best of luck thank you so much for your time and uh I I and I baby as we do each and every week on the road to French Lick we want to share with you two holes from the Pete die course at the French Lick Resort in French Lick Indiana home to the corn fairy TOUR Championship for the next five years this week we make our way to the 11th hole which is a tantalizingly short par 4 and then the par 4 12 which asks some serious questions with a beautiful Infinity green here’s will hasket with more the 11th hole is one of the most intimidating t-shots on the property there is not a lot of Fairway visible to the player from the team over the right side of the cart path towards the right Fairway bunker is the ideal line and play but some will try and shorten this hole by playing straight at the green that could end up leading to an awkward lie and approach angle coming up for your next shot and also will limit your chances at hitting the green Pete D wanted holes to be intimidating this is one of them visually but play it smart and you can [Music] score the long par 4 12th hole require two big shots to get on the Green in regulation and even if you can’t execute perfectly there’s still only one place you really want to miss your second shot to the green that is short any errant shot that ends up right left or long leaves an impossible up and down two big Strokes are necessary just to get it on the green but remember short is your friend here at the 12th [Music] without Ado for us this week on the road to French Lake thank you so much for watching this week’s corn fairy tour stop is the ascendant at TPC Colorado in Colorado and is one of the longest courses on the corn fairy tour and played in professional golf coming in at 8,029 yards on the scorecard although it is played at altitude bringing that scorecard yardage down a significant margin but it is still a tremendous test this week for the players as the start of the six- week run to the end of the Corn fairy tour regular season before we get to the corn fairy tour finals which will end in the corn fairy TOUR Championship presented by United Leasing and finance the French Lake Resort in French Lake Indiana with 30 PGA Tour cards determined at the end of that tournament for the 2025 PGA Tour season for everyone at the French Lake Resort and everyone at golf newset I’m Ryan balie saying thank you for watching and we’ll talk to you next time on the road to French Le
