everyone i’ like to welcome pal team to the interview room open for and six here in the first starts how special is it for you to come back to the Rena Club yeah this is where it kind of all started for me um I started making my run here in Scotland and um I had a chance to last year as well so it’s just Good Vibes and um of course I think it’s in different shap again from last year and I’m kind of excited to get this going with that run run finish at Trav is your game where you wanted to be coming to this week and there some big weeks ahead of you as well yeah um obviously went on Big 9 we stretch and to kind of you know just show myself a little bit about when things got when when Stakes got high and I was able to perform and just those little things kind of coming together and my game’s obviously had a slow start to the season but it’s definitely picked up and definitely coming over here um I’m happy with my gam up J what did you learn from du Scotty um so here’s the thing I think CU I know Scotty so well we played a lot at home like it was kind of like the first time I got to see him in action as just not being like you know smack talking at home and put having jokes and stuff it was just really sincere like trying to win a golf Tri and I got to really see that world on the one side of him um and like just those little things I’ve picked up where he’s just he is where he’s at because of just how good he is you know he coming down the stretch I had one B for the day and we beat the we beat we both beat the field by two and um he just want B fre 500 to win he had to play good golf to win and I think taking a loss there’s no shame you know losing to to number one golf in the world so um obviously it was tough that we didn’t get the win on my end but you know there’s so many things that I picked up personally and um we had a nice conversation after you know he beat me and um the words he said to me definitely went a lot is it about playing golf in this part of the world that like with you like about it I don’t know um just for some reason you know this was kind of my first official um time playing Links Golf and two years ago I wasn’t really you know I didn’t really know what to expect cuz it’s just so new but for some reason I think when the wind’s up and you have to be so precise with your Landing spots and you got to be so smart and you can you know there’s you can you can do so many things just it’s not a Parkland where you hit the you hit a driver as far as you can and you know hit the CL you can you have to really strategize and pick your spots and make sure you position the golf ball so up so those things are just so unique and I think really test every aspect of your game I think that’s what I love about it go next to uh David here on the left tell them when you see conditions like this do you you uh have to change your whole sort of approach to the game and it’s still a bit of a culture shock coming from something that’s manicure something very different um yeah there’s certain adjustments that you need to make for sure um because like with with t- shots you’re definitely hitting a little bit lower than you would actually normally do just because of wind and like you can use the ground to your advantage people think that you know being this firm you can’t hit it high and something to a certain point you’re right but that actually gives you an opportunity to hit a different club and use the ground to your to your advantage and um culture shock wise I don’t really think so because as a kid you know I turned Pro and I was 15 and I had to travel all around the world to get to to get to the PJ tour so um adjusting to new places I’m very familiar with and I think really if you want to be as good you as you want to be in the world you have to you have to come out here and adjust you can’t just go play well in the US you have to come out here and um just prove to yourself that you can play and I feel like you know adjustment wise you know I love playing out here I love playing out in the US and um just I think adjustment wise I think it’s it’s really cool just to follow do you feel you have somebody who uh plays his best go and the conditions challenging um for sure because it’s I think again it’s just skill asset wise um it gets to a certain point with a win because mental toughness comes a lot into play when the conditions get tough because you have to be okay with tough breaks you might hit a perfect golf shot and because of the wind gust four miles out you just you’re going to have bad breaks and to be to be okay with that and move on is just all about you know just sucking up and you know getting that mindset of it you know it happens and uh I think people who succeed out here in the wind definitely are good at that and people who struggle I think just have a hard time adjusting to that what was the logic um assuming there was logic playing nine consecutive weeks um obviously the biggest thing was just trying to find my game it wasn’t like a panic situation where oh I need to get my FedEx points up um definitely played a little bit of role but my big thing was man I’m playing good at home just when I go to tournaments I’m not sharp and you know I sat down with my team and the big thing was I think I just got to play a lot of events I got to get my tourament sharpness again you know I got into some bad with my swing early in the season so just making adjustments after that after the players really um you know I really thought about man playing good my s’s in a good place I just need my competitiveness to match up and um the N weeks definitely I think was called for it wasn’t I did everything I could to play night weeks because I knew it was going to be a long stretch but um the amount of things I picked up again from the night week stretch was just you know I I would do that again next year if I had to um and it was just definitely wasn’t a panic it was just it was and it was it was right it was a right call a difference of needing to play yourself out of a out of a run by practicing or playing and and there’s a difference have you found there a difference between being a homeing as opposed to working it out for sure um I think both are really important but I think to be honest turning a golf is way more important than grinding at home that’s definitely something I picked up in the last few years where before I thought you know you grind at home and certain people would definitely disagree with me but for me personally I just feel like if I’m sharp competitively then I can just really focus on the things I need to do at home and come out here and play again because there’s so many variants that comes in turnl like wind and lies and pins and you just can’t create that home and there’s the pressure like no matter how much you know how much you play at home you play many games it just turnament golf is just very different and I think that’s the big why I own that stru was because I wanted my Tour golf to get sharper no I need I needed a we Martin Tom I spoted something on social media this morning about you being on an invitation this week rather than in the field under your own steam so to speak can you tell us how that came about yeah obviously um there was a mixup on you know my team’s end um I just you know with deadlines and stuff with two tours It’s just sometimes gets confusing and um I only found out about it really the day before and I got a call from my team saying hey like you know we mess up on our end and we’re not trying to you know do anything weird but it’s just you know they we messed up but you know obviously I love coming out here I would never do anything remotely weird to just flirt with the with the tournaments and um it was just a complete mistake on the people who you know help me play offense not in the you want to miss clearly definitely not no I don’t I this is one of the events that I circle at the start of the year and I know I’m going to play so definitely I would not I would not try to do that on purpose okay um you’re talking when you were talking about your friendship with Scotty did you and you said about his the way he laughs and jokes at home did um being a friend of his make you more light-hearted about your own golf less serious perhaps or not um could you be more specific like I heard about my golf no just you know mentally because you’d had a hard time coming over to start with you found it a bit tough in America and then you met this light-hearted friend who was also good at golf and did it how did it what did it tell you um definitely adjusting early on like last year because it was my really officially full season I got to play definitely having someone cuz he was one number one already and had all these wins and all these experiences I was just of so definitely someone who I could actually go to advice for was really big and who was actually really sincere um has helped me even like to this day like if I have something really sincerely talked about I can just go to him and talk to him about it so to have a friend like that um who always you know is is in the spotlight all the time you know I can definitely pick up a all things and obviously he’s very nice enough to um to answer those questions so definitely helps a lot I think um and it’s not just me like he’s a type of guy who wants to help a lot of the young guys out here and if they go out ask him there’s no ego at all and he’s he’s taking his time and answering those questions okay one final from dck I’m curious um looking ahead um not so much for next week but U about the Olympics what what are your thoughts on that and what are you going to do the week between the open and Paris so I’m going to stay over here um I just think it’s too much to go back home uh it’s just be home for 4 days and go back it’s just there’s no point so after the British I’ll I’ll be over here and I’m excited to go to the Olympics I never really had the opportunity as a kid because um to represent my country as an am as well so um to be on a world stage in France you know I got to play at the French Open last year so I know the course pretty well so prep’s going to be good and um hopefully I’ll have a chance did you turn pro at 15 did you you never would have played in in the Asian Games exactly I I turned 15 really young and I never grew up in Korea so I just never like had an opportunity like my amateur was really terrible I think it was a thousand something in the world and um it was just so it’s been a long road for me to be able to represent my country okay well thanks for our time and good luck this week thank you guys
