they’re like the the poster team if you will for analytics all right that’s the whole thing with the three-point shooting and for those I mean it’s simple math it’s amazing Rob that if if for the first I don’t know 20 five 30 years of the three-point line nobody really thought about this but three is better than two and if you you’re not going to shoot the same percentage from three-point land as you shoot from two but Rob you don’t have to that’s the whole thing behind the analytics craze and you notice Rob coming up I mean if you shoot 50% from the field that’s great well if you shoot 33% from three-point land which isn’t even League average now uh that’s the equivalent of % from two-point range so that’s why the three-point Revolution took place and uh why it’s such a big part of the game now and now what the analytics tell you the the percentage of you know chances you make certain shots Rob the ultra analytic teams only want to shoot in the paint or three-pointers they that and Dan Tony may have been the first to kind of start this but they don’t want to shoot mid-range shots particularly the long you know the SE the 20f Footers the 19 Footers because the percentage the chance of you hitting those are only slightly better than if you hit a three so they’re like well why don’t you move out a couple of feet and get three points instead of two so that’s what the analytics teams do the three-pointers uh shot in the paint and free throws that is what they do and Rob G got some numbers that’s what Boston is kind of doing to a te is that correct that is correct they’re doing exactly what they’ve done throughout the regular season now last night was the Pinnacle of that though because during this series they’re averaging about half of their shots are three-point attempts a little more than half actually last night 46 of their 82 attempts were from deep and to your point about where they’re getting their shots mention the three-point shooting they scored 106 points in game three 100 of them came from either the three-point line inside the paint or at the free throw line a 100 of their 106 points came in those three ways absolutely and it’s interesting because they only made three mid-range they attempted six three of six from mid-range one of the mid-range shots they made was what many would call the biggest shot of the game that was a jayen the g yep that was a huge shot it wasn’t the the gamewinner technically if you just look at the points was the dunk I believe I believe by Tatum in the lane which was a nice dunk um but yeah to me the big shot was Tatum or uh Browns 21f footer that to me was like okay it’s over that kind of sealed it well look during the regular season Boston averaged 90 shots a game and 42 two of them were threes so it wasn’t quite 50% but it was close I I wouldn’t be surprised if next year it is 50% and um you know that’s kind of way the the league obviously it just gets more the threes get higher and higher every year um and so you know we’ll see I mean during the playoffs I think they’ve gotten even more that 84 shot 83.8 shots a game for Celtics 40.2 of them were threes so that’s that’s a higher percentage of their shots are threes so yeah I wouldn’t be surprised if next year’s 50% of their shots are threes yeah but the only thing is and and I get the analytics and you Chris it still comes down to talent and roster because what was the game Rob G was it game two they shot 10 for 39 do you remember the well they haven’t shot the three well this whole series that’s what i% like like like it’s not just the analytics and shooting three they have a better roster have better players but they got a roster built to play analytic style basketball I get that that really is what it is but but it’s still but it it’s not like they’re killing the analytics game of making the threes is what I’m saying to you but but analytics is also the points in the paint not many but the threes are big they take a lot of Threes And I’m just saying that they’ve won Chris in spite of not making them that’s all I’m saying is like that’s not the only way that you can win is by knocking down that many threes and they’ve still been able to win that’s all I’m not saying you go away from analytics all the way but there are more ways to win than just that you can go if you want to hold them as up as the poster boy for analytics that’s fine I I heard I heard people say that with the Red Sox I remember when they won and I was like I I get it they use some analytics but some guys may got some big hits too that’s what I mean right yeah but they but they’re they’re rosters built to play analytic style basketball right we talked about our Carrie and and Antonio Daniels talked about it they got eight guys their eight man rotation all of them can shoot threes that’s an analytically built team you know um and they you know they don’t take a ton of mid-range shots and they’re not the only ones um but yeah I mean it’s this is what they uh are doing is it system or is it is it system Chris or is it Talent like I I get what you’re saying completely well both that’s what I’m saying everything is a mix I mean you got to have guys that can play but these guys like I mean they they do have a bunch of three-point shooters for their style of play and we you know that was one of the reasons I thought maybe when they do go cold it could come back to bite them but like you said this series they theyve gone cold now it the Dallas is cold too that’s part that’s part of it but that their defense is even built analytically in that they take away the corner three and by T that’s the easiest three-point shot in the league and one of the easier shots in the league and so they’ve taken that away and that’s been a huge part of Dallas’s success throughout these playoffs and so that is you it’s all analytically based and Missoula is huge on that obviously and this cuz they didn’t didn’t I mean they obviously all the teams incorporate analytics but when under Oka they weren’t this heavily analytic and Missoula came in and just completely made him and I don’t think it was only him I’m sure Brad Stevens has something to do with it as well but yeah they’re they’re playing this way what I wonder Rob is is there a threshold of when the game becomes twoo threo heavy like like is there I don’t know I don’t know what it is and then maybe there isn’t one but if if I don’t know what 60% of the shots become threes does it become something we don’t recognize anym like the allstar game I that’s my firm belief yeah that that was what ruined the allstar game yeah that I remember it was I think it was 2014 or 15 remember that yeah yeah when they went from about 80 combined threes to like 108 or something I was going to say 300 cuz that’s what it felt like well yeah once it went over a 100 it was just like okay it’s not even a game anymore but I you know it’s gonna be interesting because Rob you know it’s a copycat league and so it’ll be you wonder next year are the three-pointers going to Skyrocket because the team that shot the most this year uh won the championship yeah and uh I I just wonder I I wonder people Chris and I think you just said it you do have to have the the Personnel just in putting in the system and wanting to do something if you don’t make those shots and you don’t you know what I mean then then then you got to have the people to perform it the people to pull it off just like we talked about before it’s just a little different but the when Pat Riley went to the Knicks he didn’t bring Showtime with him to New York right you didn’t have the Personnel right you just can’t go well this is my system and this is what we do and we’re going to run up and down and the point guard is going to be doing all these no look passes and dunks and all no you didn’t have those players no and that was impressive it really was way he completely CH it was very impressive um no I agree with you right and I think what Boston what they would say and I’m sure what they will do they’re going to go out and get players that fit that system you know and look the for them I mean they’re going to lock up you know I think Tatum will get an extension this summer so he and brown will be the they’re the core so what what will keep well he’s gonna get the over 300 he will now become the highest paid guy in the league uh it was Jaylen Brown you knew you know that would only last for this cycle right um but they’ll they’ll get players that fit that and I think next year they’ll essentially be intact and then how will they be able to keep these guys or retool going forward but Rob this is you know we talk about will they be an all-time great team for me I they’re gonna have to win another one with like in the next they have to win one of the next two and maybe become like a mini Dynasty or something like that for me to think they’re in all time great team I’ll give you an example Nick Wright said this on our show first things first today and it it made sense and I think you’ll understand it too that Pistons team we talk about a lot 04 and we’ve compared this team to that one because you know no Superstar but a bunch of stars and Rob that you know I mean they some people say should have beaten San Antonio the following year well right right when Rasheed left was it uh was it or robor open he went to double job job in the corner Chris I was sitting right over there it was unbelievable and then Robert orau he knew didn’t they tell him in the H that was the big thing and I remember talking to Larry Brown he said that kid is torn up talking about Rashid because they told her do not under any circumstance leave Robert Ory do not leave him and and they had a chance to win that game I don’t know if you remember what happened at the end at after that rip had a shot that that uh he had a shot at the end they had a chance to win that and they might have won the championship had they won that game cuz you remember they were down 02 came back to Detroit won game three one game four and then they lost that game yeah and then they won game six in San Antonio yep to push it to I think they would have won had that had that you know Robert or didn’t make that shot y I agree um but my point is this Rob had they won that series and now they’re back-to- back champions and you remember they got back to the Conference Finals several years after that um they would have been viewed we would have held them in even higher esteem you know what I’m saying like they’re not viewed as one of the alltime great teams but but had they beaten they obviously beat Shaq and Kobe had they also beaten Duncan you know what I mean we probably would have we may have looked at them that way and that’s what I’m saying about these Celtics like this one championship’s not going to do it I I don’t care they were wildly impressive it’s been a great year but just one is not going to do it and that’s what I’m like Denver Rob if Denver won this year some we we’d probably be saying they’re like maybe one of the greatest teams you know what I mean that have all time or something like that yeah no you got you got to do more and for the Pistons the only thing that saved them Chris was that they got back to the finals so so they so it wasn’t a fluk year you know what I mean like like it wasn’t just a fluke year everything worked their way they made it back to the finals and they lost in seven games so people feel good about that team but you’re right uh and and the way you look at teams yeah no doubt about it no doubt about it

  1. PJ WAshington sucks!🤣 Let's just say the Mavs DON'T HAVE A 3RD option, where the Celtics have like 6 effective players.That is the difference. Not only that, but PJ Washington who is supposed to be that 3rd option not only isn't but he is constantly getting beat on defense, he is lost on rotations, he can't hit shots, he isn't hustling for loose balls, he can't catch passes. He is a liability AND IT IS BEING IGNORED because we are paying attention to the big names. In the FINALS it's often the role players that win the game when the stars cancel each other out. PJ WAshington sucks! I BLAME HIM for the Mavs not being competitive

  2. Rob

    The point is, the fact they are still winning proves the analytics crowd lol

    Don’t even need to shoot well. Just enough of them. Limit the shots that are lesser that equal 2, and get to the line if not

  3. I F’ing Love it how you’re both drowning in your own HATRED & mouth uttering FILTH!!

  4. The Celtics are not winning because of the offense. It is because of great defense. The Mavs couldn't score over 100 points in all 3 games. It is about great defensive players, good defensive schemes, rebounding, forcing turnovers.

  5. I love my Celtics and I’m glad they are better at playing this “analytic” style of basketball than anybody else is right now. But it is NOT an enjoyable brand to watch. I’m sorry. I root for my team but I preferred how they used to play offense.

  6. This is not the 2004 pistons. Tatum is way better than billups, Jaylen is better than Rip Hamilton, Holiday is better than Tayshaun Prince, etc

  7. Rob has got to be worst sports talk partner. Hahaha. Just a bone head and just sits there looking at his phone. Doesn’t converse with Chris. He just talks then looks away at his phone or whatever like he has to be locked in with news at all times. Hey dumb dumb. You’re on a show right now and Chris is carrying you. He just doesn’t care. Just a useless voice in the sports world. Just there to sound dumb so fans can realize they are smarter than him.

  8. The Celtics haven't been winning this series from the 3, they've been winning from the drive so how can Chris say teams will shoot more 3's if the Celtics win

  9. Defense wins championships.. at least I thought? Not Boston’s fault that this series is boring. They were good in the regular season and now they are showing it when it matters.

  10. I thought Jordan average more points per while no one that's shooting 3's average 30 period

  11. We have gotten to the point where we're degrading Championships before they are even won. Now winning 1 Chip as a team isn't enough.

  12. 1 Corinthians 15:1-4
    King James Version
    15 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;

    2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.

    3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;

    4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

  13. Steph Curry groomed kids & easily amused fans to be cool w/ watching more Missed Shots from the lower % 3pt line, including many more Airballs & Bricks. Boring basketball. Only reason Celtics are entertaining is because The Jays attack the paint and get their dunk on frequently or else they'd be unwatchable.

  14. @DrPhill96 you have me confused with someone who cares. i dont care about your stupid double entendres. Just admit you're wrong and i'll leave you alone. Why the stupid questions and dumb statements? i know you want to be smart, but it isnt my problem you're not. blame your mother for your below average intelligence.

  15. The haters is mad Celtics had no competition. Just last week kyrie & Luka was the greatest back court in history.

  16. Dallas was a good defensive team half the year, especially the playoffs. Boston was an outstanding defensive team all year. Both these teams showed up defensively in the Finals, and Boston just had more options to score against a good defense than the Mavs did.

  17. Dam Celtics played an exhausted mavs team that had to win on the road vs top teams they really got lucky …

  18. Analytics is all cart before the horse. It can't tell you what the best decision in the future should be.

  19. Out of 15 players on the roster Boston found 8 that can shoot 3s at 33% That is not hard to find. Where was this ridiculous logic with the Warriors. This isn't a win for analytics.

  20. You didn't need analytics to make any of these basketball decisions. Why do you think people drool all over themselves when a 7 ft player enters the league. The hoop is at 10ft this isn't complicated.

  21. People on focus on the three. Tried to copy golden state and didn't also remember they did that while being elite defensively. Same with these Celtics. It's not just jacking up threes

  22. It’s funny how ppl did not want super teams not they complaining bout the parity 😂😂😂 & the rating was high w super teams

  23. how many finals and rings jordan had with age 25? …what? louder.can't hear ya. did ya say ZERO? NIL, NADA, NULLA? HEY, you, wait..where ya goin so fast?…;

  24. as a math guy, theres always more to it then %. For instance 33% compared to 50% means therell be quite a lot more misses, which menas more rebounds to be had. since its a long range shot its more likely to end up in a fast break when you miss it.
    Also take JT, hes 1 of the worst volume 3pt shooters off the dribble , now if he got the ball 10-15 feet from the basket, it takes him 1 dribble and few steps to get to the basket or he can post up and shoot over most ppl.. which makes more sense?
    To avoid ranting – I think its the talent, they won despite taking all that 3s.
    Only analytic team that had roster to pull it off and dominate was GSW.

  25. Chris picks Dallas to smoke Boston.
    Boston smokes Dallas in 5.
    Chris: "They'll only be great if they do it again".
    🙄

  26. You have to have players… WHO PLAY DEFENSE! The Celtics took 46 3 pointers and only scored 106 points!! It will always be the team that plays the better defense and attacks the basket and gets to the line and makes their open 3 point shots.
    These coaches thinking their team will just shoot 60 3s a game will never win. You have to have players who are good all around players. You ha e to have basketball players. Boston did not win because they killed Dallas with 3s… But, they do have the players to take 3s. They most importantly have players who can get to the basket and play defense… 3s are not the most important reason they won a championship. Think about it. One game they shot 10-46 from 3 point land AND WON!! That's called defense.
